Biography
[edit]William T. Cosby was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1843. He grew up with three siblings, his parents, and grandfather. His grandfather Harry Cosby taught him how to use firearms, which he became skilled at by his early teens. His father was a carpenter and often was busy, which made his grandfather his father figure. His grand father told stories of the American Revolution, which is thought to be large reason for him to take arms as he seeked the glory in war. He worked with his father in the carpentry business starting at the age of fourteen.
Civil War
[edit]He left for war in 1862 after his father encouraged him to do so as he didn't need help with the business. William served in the is the 6th Indiana Infantry Regiment from 1862-64. He reached the rank of Corporal until he was discharged in 1864.
Later Life
[edit]After his service, he got married in 1865 and moved back in with his family. He took over the business in 1879 when his father died. He worked until he retired and gave the business over to his two sons in 1897.
