Biography

Poet and writer born in Cuba, in 1974, a graduate of English Language and Literature in 1996 at the Pedagogical Institute of Pinar del Rio received the International Poetry Award Sant Jordi, Spain in 2006 for his book Self-Portrait in blue. Poems, stories, and his articles have been translated into English, German, Turkish, Italian and French, and have appeared in various anthologies and magazines, including: Before the Mirror (Iberoamerican Poetry Foundation European Concern, Madrid, 2008), Goodbye ( Madrid, 2006) in Trocadero Aldabonazo 162 (Ed. Aduana Vieja, Madrid, 2008), A voice in the abyss (Peru, 2007), collection of poetry Ego Editorial Group, Inc, Miami), Anthology of Cuban exile poetry ( Aduana Vieja, Spain, 2011) and in magazines like Blancomóvil, Focusing, 13trenes, say Water, Havana elegant, Baquiana, Linen magazine, Art libertine, La Zorra y el Cuervo, Zafra Lit, Journal Review Meeting and "Journal Parteaguas" of Spain, Cuba, Turkey, Mexico, Germany, Peru, Argentina and the United States. In 2010, the South Beach Music Ensemble premiered several U.S. states the "Quintet on Carlos Painted Poems" piano and string quintet led by the American composer Pamela Marshall. The author has been one of those invited to participate as an artist in the White Night or Sleepless Night with several musicians and artists of recognized artistic career. Chief editor of the literary magazine "The Fox and The Crow."

  • "Tropical Rhymes"

A selection of his poetry under the name "Tropical Rhymes" had its world premiere in June 2011 by the San Francisco Girls Chorus, the group winner of 5 Grammy Awards and several prestigious ASCAP Margaret Hillis Award, a group that was invited to the inauguration ceremony of President Barack Obama in Washington and has been recognized for over 30 years as one of the best of its kind in the world. The "Tropical Rhymes" by Carlos Pintado were musicalized especially by Tania León, one of the composers and directors most admired and respected in the world of contemporary classical music, a member of the Academy of Arts and Letters American and who has worked with major awards Nobel and Pulitzer for literature Wole Soyinka (Nobel prize 1992), Derek Walcott (Nobel Prize 1992), John Ashbery (Pulitzer Prize 1976), Rita Dove (Pulitzer Prize 1987), Margaret Atwood (Booker Prize, 2000 and Prince of Asturias Award Literature, 2008) among others.

  • "Idols of the dream"

A selection of his poems with the title of "Idols of the dream" was scored by Ileana Perez-Velazquez for soprano, clarinet, violin, cello and piano, and premiered in 2011 by world-renowned CONTINUUM, the New York Center Kaufam.

  • Other Collaborations

Carlos Pintado has been involved with important Cuban musicians Gema and Pavel in multiple presentations, with actor and sculptor Michel Hernandez made the merger of poetry and sculpture The invention of the senses that is on the list of Open Space Spanish Cultural Center in Miami and collaborated in the project Free Soul Dance Company directed by Belma Suazo and Cuban actor Francisco Gattorno. His articles have appeared in Vogue magazine in Spanish.
