User:Alex Dawnranger
Alexandros "The Dawnranger" is the fictional protagonist of Matthew Hodges's Darklight series, based in the fictional World of Warcraft universe in which his life's story is told through a narrative, through which momentous events in the Warcraft world occur, though most are primarily original concepts. Seen through the eyes of an unknown narrator, Alex's heroic, yet sadly tragic struggle to save his beloved people, and, by extension, all of Aldial, from total annihilation by the Undead Scourge, is shown to us in a seven part epic. His journeys primarily focus on his quest of retrieving Darklight, a mystical artifact created by the Titans that was imbued with both the powers of the Holy Light and the Malevolent Dark, and granted to Alex by birthright, following a holy prophecy that he was destined to fufill ascension into adulthood. Alex's fate is left largely ambiguous at the end of the series, as is the fate of the people he was so determined to save.
Appearance
[edit]Alex is a young Arylian, 17 years of age. He stands 6, 1”, of a strong, muscular build not quite concealed behind usually military apparel. He has long, blonde hair that he keeps in a ponytail, and has bright blue eyes, much unlike the usual green of the Arylian race. He has very pale skin, almost chalk-white, that is also not the normal for most Arylians. Like all of his race, he has long, pointed ears, and sharp, symmetrical features, almost the exaggeration of perfect beauty. Yet he has a long, vertical scar under his right eye that he received when he was very young, reaching almost down to his cheek, a single flaw on his otherwise handsome face.
His eyes and pale skin are a result of his birth during the Invandis, a holy day in which the twin Suns Avo and Nero are dawning and dusking. It is normally a forbidden practice to have a child on this sacred day, but complications leading up to Alex's conception resulted in no alternative.
Residual Effects of Darklight
[edit]When Alex gains possession of Darklight, his appearance changes to suit his emotions. When he becomes enraged after the death of his friend Aurius, his skin, or in reality, his body becomes a black void, and his hair turns a dark red color. When he is around Aurora, or at otherwise peace, his blue eyes emit a bright glow.
Personality
[edit]Alex is the archetype of a hero, or, more accurately, a tragic hero.
Alex is extremely optimistic, always trying to make light of any situation and find good in everything. He is exceptionally intelligent, and very alert and aware of his surroundings. He is friendly, and quite outgoing when around close friends, and possesses a natural charm and charisma that most find quite infatuating, or, at the very least, potent. He is also a good judge of character, noticing weaknesses, animosity, and contempt in an individual, just through a glance through their eyes. He is a leader by principal, and though he is not quick to impose his command over others, his quick and decisive thinking often leads to others to follow him. He revels in the Holy Light, and follows it‘s testament to the letter, though his race finds the arcane and natural arts more appealing.
Alex is guided by an intuition that is nearly always right, this may or may not be a result of his attachment to the Light.
His quest for Darklight may also be seen as one of personal redemption, or atonement. He feels that it is his duty to save his people to make up for his past failure, and he, with an almost self-destructive goal, sets out on an almost unobtainable mission. The horrors of the Scourge pale in comparison to his trek through The Valley of Sins, or his ascent up to the Peak of Destiny. Yet he treks through this punishment, head up high, with only the Light to guide him, to his climactic summit.
Alex possesses two critical flaws that are taken advantage of and prove to be his eventual undoing:
-His perfection leads him to place trust in Nhiles, resulting in the death of Aurius and the collapse of peace between the Arylians and the Humans.
-His heart, which is agonized over his decisions regarding Aurora and Aurius, his guilt driving him to the point of insanity.
Relationships with other Characters
[edit]Alexandros is extremely hesitant to form relationships with anyone, romantic or otherwise, due mainly to his inability to trust others. However, throughout the course of Darklight he encounters several individuals who he bonds closely with, though, cynically, almost all of them are either killed, or betray Alex to further their own agenda.
Aurius Eyfire
Is the young, ambitious Human Prince of the New Strom Kingdom. The two meet during a battle the Tainted Scar, where Aurius recognizes the Arylian's characteristic ears. The pair strike up an alliance between the two small forces, and proceed to lay siege to a Scourge strongpoint, eventually capturing it. Aurius proves to be a fiercely loyal, courageous, and righteous paladin, Alex himself surprised with the human's thirst for justice, remarking often on it.
Unlike some humans that Alex encounters (such as Fahrad), Aurius has no instinctive dislike of the "other" races, unlike the majority of the Human leadership. His reaction to the racial slur uttered by Invangarheld elicts a quick response, and Aurius proves to care more about Alex's success than his own life.
It may be because Alex sees the same devotion to his people that Aurius has that results in the pair's
