Iefym Shabshai, (Ukrainian: Юхим Шабшай, born 6 April 1965) is a Ukrainian-Israeli scientist, life coach, author, actor, director, and businessperson. He has contributed to the fields of cognitive psychology, integrative psychotherapy, and emotional intelligence. Shabshai worked on methods aimed at stimulating non-standard thinking and has written over 30 books on diverse topics.

Early life

Iefym Shabshai was born in 1965 in Donetsk, Ukraine, into a Jewish family. At the age of 12, he began studying martial arts, including Shotokan, Kyokushin, and Wing Chun.

Following the fall of the Iron Curtain in the 1990s, Shabshai began studying Qigong, religious-ethical systems, and esoteric practices. He attended seminars on the Enneagram, Zen and Gurdjieff practices, and workshops led by Zen master Swami Deva Swarupo and other disciples of Osho. In 1995, he began studying Reiki healing under Swami Anand Sirdjanchar.

During this period, Shabshai engaged in a variety of spiritual practices. He studied Gurdjieff's system of self-work, which is influenced by the intellectual Burtonian school, and explored the works of Susan Zannos, a disciple of Burton. He also studied Osho's technological and energetic system, and Carlos Castaneda's teachings. Additionally, he practiced Qigong, a discipline that focuses on cultivating and harmonizing the body's vital energy. In addition to his spiritual pursuits, Shabshai was involved in acting and directing at the Youth Theatre in Donetsk.

Creative Career

Shabshai began his creative career in 1986 at the Lenin Culture House, where he explored the methodologies of SStanislavski, Meyerhold, and Peter Brook, and focused on memory and attention training. At that time He was part of the first cooperative theater "Krug," a group of 30 like-minded individuals. In 1995, he opened his own private theater and continued experimenting with acting and improvisation, incorporating the ideas of Gurdjieff. In 2003, he established the first author's Zen theater in Donetsk, developing various Zen gesture systems. From 2013, he directed and acted in performances in Ukraine and Israel, exploring the worldviews of geniuses and historical figures. Currently, Shabshai is working on projects that synthesize different art directions, such as Objective Art and Painting of Meanings.

During his creative career, Shabshai actively contributed to the development of programs that combine theatrical techniques and psychology. He played a key role in the creation of programs such as Memory Management, Attention Control, and Time Inception. These programs represent innovative approaches to memory enhancement, attention control, and time management, drawing upon his knowledge and experience in the fields of theater arts and psychology.

Scientific career

Shabshai is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Enneagram Association (IEA), the Academy of Psychological Sciences of Ukraine (since 2017), the Ukrainian Society of Psychologists (since May 2018), the American Psychological Association (since 2022), and the Association of Neuropsychologists of Ukraine (since 2023).

His latest scientific work is a monograph titled "Integrative Psychotherapy and Proactive Coaching in the 'Human-Business-Family' System within the Modality of Personal Source Code." The monograph was written with the guidance of Peter Saville, an expert in psychometrics, and Don Edward Beck, a specialist in spiral dynamics and cultural evolution. In 2022, a book titled "Personal Source Code" was published, which is based on the research presented in the monograph.

Conferences

Shabshai has actively participated in several international conferences, showcasing his expertise in various domains. His notable conference contributions include:

  • III International Conference on Fundamental and Applied Issues of Cognitive-Behavioral Sciences (March 2017): Shabshai presented a paper on the latest developments in cognitive styles of Individuality.
  • International scientific and practical seminar on Clinical Psychodiagnostics: Measurement, Operationalization, Supervision (June 2021): Shabshai presented her research on clinical psychodiagnostics at this seminar.
  • Cognitive Neuroscience and Clinical Neuropsychology: The Beginning of a New Path in Ukraine (July 2022): Shabshai actively engaged in discussions on the latest developments in cognitive neuroscience and clinical neuropsychology during this international conference.
  • World Mental Health Day 2022 (October 2022): Shabshai served as a speaker at this international event focused on raising awareness about mental health.

Business career

Shabshai's business career began in 1987 as the owner of the cooperative "Krug," later becoming the real estate agency "Interkrug" in Donetsk.

In 1988, he served as the CEO of Donetsk Askoservice, an insurance company in Donetsk. He left the business in 1992 to focus on self-development techniques and meditation, laying the groundwork for his "Shabshai Meditation" system.

From 2003, Shabshai pursued two directions: real estate and the "Institute of Living Creativity," offering seminars and training. Under his leadership, 11 branches were established in major Ukrainian cities.

In 2005, Shabshai developed the Shabshai Upgrade system, an intended universal learning system focused on enhancing intelligence quotient (IQ), emotional quotient (EQ), and vitality quotient (VQ). This system is a synthesis of his scientific research, business experience, and 25 years of studying various meditative practices. For the Shabshai Upgrade System, he developed and implemented two universal development systems: Attention Control and Memory Management.

In 2015, a studio began operating in Kyiv, hosting certified experts of the Shabshai Upgrade System and conducting scientific research.

In 2017, he opened the Shabshai SPA Retreat Center in Costa Brava, Spain, with his wife.

In 2019, together with his wife and Israeli partners, Shabshai opened a company in the United States named "Shabshai Technology." The company conducts research and commercial activities in the field of integrative psychotherapy. Its research and method development focus on professional and emotional well-being, the development of emotional intelligence, and the enhancement of cognitive activity. One of the methods used by the company is Time Inception, a time management system that Shabshai proposed within the framework of integrative psychotherapy.

In 2020, Shabshai established a company in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Personal Life

Iefym Shabshai is married to Halyna Shabshai, a psychologist, Ukrainian and Israeli writer, and an expert in integrative psychotherapy. The couple has two daughters.
