Rumi Laskar Bora (1970) is an eminent fiction writer, poet and translator in Assamese. She is a social activist also. She has 18 books to her credit. Her books has been translated and published in Hindi, Nepali and Bengali. She is the recipient of Bishnu Rabha Award by Assam Sahitya Sabha, Maya Media Award and Bhadrakumari Ghaley Prof. (Dr) Ushanarain Thakur Award (from Nepal) among others.
Early life and education Born on 1 March 1970, she was educated in Nagaon, Assam.
Literary career Rumi Laskar Bora's is an important and different voice in contemporary Assamese literature. She has started writing in the first decade of 21st century. She writes poems, short stories and novels. Her first book of poetry has been published in 2007, titled Pakhi Logai Uri Jao, while the first novel Dhou has published in 2008, which was based on the concept of neglected tortured women in a male dominated society. In addition to the above the true picture of Assam agitation in 1983 is also portrayed in the novel. She has published novels these are that include Bishannatar Behala (2010), Barnil Sonakushir Swapnil Adhyai (2012), Snehabandhan (2012), Domphu (2013), Kalagni (2015), Prashna (2018) and Bises Batari (2022). She has three collection of short stories and two poetry books also to her credit. Her works have been translated into English, Hindi, Bengali and Nepali.
Novels in Assamese 2008 Dhou 2010 Bishannatar Behala, based on mental dilemma of a unemployed budding youth poet and his pathetic conditions of survival. 2012 Barnil Sonakushir Swapnil Adhyai, The novel is based on the colonial life of a Paper Mill Industry in Assam. 2012 Snehabandh, based on the bonding between human being and animals. 2013 Domphu, Migration of Nepali Community during pre-independence era is the basis of the novel This is based on a life of a Nepali Soldier of Gorkha Regiment in 1942 world war The first hand experience of war and its violence has been described in this noel. 2015 Kalagni, The novel is based on the Moarnoria Mutiny during Ahom Dynasty, the first known Mutiny against any Kingdom in the world. 2015 Aakashkhan Sui Saaun, Life & the mental dilemma of dwarf people have been brought out in this novel. 2018 Prashna, The reflection of social media on the society and the effect of its positive and negative side in the modern day world have been brought out in this novel. 2022 Bises Batari, based on the life of employees of Paper Mil after its closing. The impact of it is depicted clearly in this novel, in special context of newly recruited generation.
