Tina Turner (born Anna Mae Bullock, November 26, 1939) is an American recording artist and actress. Born in Nutbush, Tennessee, Turner began her career as an entertainer performing as a back-up vocalist for Ike Turner. The two eventually married and became known as the recording duo Ike & Tina Turner. As a duo, Turner and her husband were regarded as "one of the most potent live acts on the R&B circuit during the '60s and early '70s." The Turners released an extensive amount of singles in the US and abroad, including "A Fool in Love", "River Deep-Mountain High", and their cover version of "Proud Mary".

Turner released her first solo album, Acid Queen (1975), while still a member of the duo. Shortly after, highly publicized marital problems between the couple eventually led to divorce and disbandment.
