The seventh season of Ugly Betty commenced airing with its season premiere on September 27, 2012 and is expected to conclude with its season finale sometime in Spring 2013. The season will consist of 24 episodes.[1] The season continues the events during the life of Betty Suarez as she continues to face obstacles with her job at Mode, along with her family, friends, and enemies.
The seventh season was renewed by ABC on January 26, 2012 after the sixth season managed to pull in higher ratings after the move to Thursday nights since the show has hit many series-low during its initial run on the Friday night death slot.
On February 16 2013, ABC President Steve McPherson announced that Ugly Betty will be brought back for an eighth season, effectively giving the show a new-season renewal.[2]
Production
[edit]Ugly Betty has been picked up for a seventh season on January 26, 2012.[3] The first episode of the seventh season aired on September 27, 2012.
Cast
[edit]All the regular characters from the sixth season returned for the seventh season as regulars once more, with the exception of Daniel Eric Gold who portrays the character of Matt Hartley, becoming a guest star, having only appeared physically in "Nice is Different Than Good". He joined the cast after being a regular in the fourth season and demoted to a guest star in the fifth season but upgraded to a regular.
It was announced that Dave Annable, of Brothers and Sisters fame, would join the show as a recurring star, portraying George Watson, Betty's new contractor and later boyfriend. Chris Diamantopoulos was also introduced this season under a recurring capacity to portray Eric Stone, a man who catches Amanda's eyes and is revealed to have a connection to Fey Sommers. Mad Men star Bryan Batt was confirmed to appear on the show as a recurring star, portraying famous trend-setter Spencer Cannon.
Aside from Daniel Eric Gold (Matt Hartley) becoming a guest star, the season saw the return of his haughty mother Victoria Hartley in the episode "Don't Look At Me" as a guest star, attending Matt's will ceremony and blaming Betty for his son's paralysis and death.
