Matt Holubowski (Mathieu Holubowski) is a Canadian singer-songwriter born in Hudson, Québec in 1988.

Biography

[edit]Matt Holubowski was born in Hudson, Quebec, on May 9, 1988, from a Polish father and a French-Canadian mother[5].
He was 17 years old when he first got interested in music and then started learning how to play guitar on his own[6]. However, Matt Holubowski chose to attend John Abbott College and later obtained a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Concordia University in 2012[7].
Also interested in travelling, he visited Uganda and Southeast Asia[8]. It is during those trips that he began performing on stage[9].
First album: Old Man, Ogen
[edit]The year 2014 marks the official beginning of Matt Holubowski's musical career. He launches is very first album, Old Man, in July under the name Ogen[10].
Produced in collaboration with Connor Seidel, Old Man is first released on Bandcamp. The album contains 14 tracks completely written and composed by Matt Holubowski. Not only does the young songwriter sings on this album, he also plays guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and harmonica [11].
La Voix
[edit]Only a few weeks after releasing his first album, Matt Holubowski presents himself to the blind auditions of La Voix's third season. Three of the four coachs turned their chair for his rendition of Ray Lamontagne's Burn : coachs Isabelle Boulay, Marc Dupré, and Pierre Lapointe.
When his blind audition is broadcasted in January of 2015, Matt is in Egypt. He only realises the impact of La Voix on his life when he wakes up the following morning and sees the impressive amount of comments he received on social medias[12].
Matt Holubowski chooses to join Pierre Lapointe's team, a decision that will lead him to La Voix's finale, broadcasted on April 12, 2015[13]. The 2015 winner of La Voix turns out to be Kevin Bazinet, Marc Dupré's team finalist[14].

[edit]Only a few weeks after La Voix's finale, Matt Holubowski presents his very first concert at the Place des Arts' la Cinquième Salle during the Montreal International Jazz Festival. The show was sold in 30 minutes[15] and a new concert date was added at the Metropolis[16], a much larger venue.
In the Fall of 2015, after considering many labels offers[17], Matt Holubowski becomes the first La Voix contestant to ever sign a record deal with the prestigious independent label Audiogram[18] where he gets free rein to create his second album[19].
After a series of concerts that ends in November 2015, Matt Holubowski takes a break and leaves for Central America where he visits Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua[20].
Second album : Solitudes
[edit]Inspired by his travels[21], Matt Holubowski' starts working on his second album as soon as he gets back, and chooses to work again with Old Mans producer, Connor Seidel. The album is titled Solitudes, a tribute to the novel Two Solitudes by Hugh MacLennan[22]. Launched on September 23, 2016, Solitudes is well received by both critics and the public[23].
For this new album, the young singer-songwriter surrounds himself with Simon Angell (electric guitar), Stéphane Bergeron (percussions), Marc-André Landry (bass guitar), Marianne Houle (cello), and Félix Leblanc (piano). The band also joins him on stage[24].
After the release of Solitudes, Matt Holubowski begins a tour that brings him all across Quebec from 2016 to 2017[25].
