Salim Assaf
[edit]Salim Assaf, a Lebanese contemporary Composer, Writer, Singer and Music Producer. Salim has won Best Comprehensive Song Murex D’or Award 2010 for “Sho Sahel El Haki” song [1]. After 2 years (2012) he got the same prize for his single for the song “Majnoun"[2][3]. Assaf is also a singer and has released his own songs.[4] He is the founder and CEO of “Music Designers”.[5]

Early life and career
[edit]Salim is originally from Al Warhaniyeh-Al Shouf. He was born December 22, 1979 in Kuwait[6][1]. At the age of 16, he attended the National Conservatory of Beirut in UNESCO, and studied OUD and Music Theories with the best teachers at that time. In 2003, he graduated with a BA from the Lebanese University, Faculty of Hospitality[1]. He also holds a diploma in Oud performance from the Lebanese National Conservatory[1], master’s in music for Film & TV from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and an MBA in International Business from Liverpool University[6]
Career

[edit]In 1998, Salim had his first musical appearance as a singer in Simon Asmar’s talents program “Kaas Al Nojoum”, broadcasted on the LBCI (Lebanese Broadcasting Company International), in the late “Abdel-Halim Hafez” episode.[6]
Assaf’s career started in 2004 when he wrote the lyrics to the song “Ghali Alayi” for the Lebanese megastar Carole Samaha in her Ana Horra album. Subsequently, he composed another song “Keef Badi Eysh” for Carole Samaha.[6]
Salim’s career took a high turn when he started composing songs for major Lebanese & Arab singers like Majida Al Roumi, Elissa, Nancy Ajram, Najwa Karam, Yara, Saber Rebai, Ramy Ayach, Cyrine Abdelnour, Maya Diab, Diana Haddad, Ghassan Saliba, Ayman Zbib, Fares Karam and many others. His songs became major hits in the Arab world.[1] [5]
His efforts were recognized when his song “Sho Sahel El Haki” for Rawaida Attiah“ [7]won the Best Comprehensive Song Murex D’or Award 2010[6][4]. Salim and Rawaida’s collaboration continued with two more songs. In 2012, Salim won the same prize for his single “Majnoun” for the Pop Star Ramy Ayach.[2][3] .
In 2015, he collaborated with SONY music and produced “THE FIVE” team Runner-ups of X-Factor.[6] His work also included creating KARIZMA, a three girl team, where he was the main producer, writer, composer of their debut song “Haga Gheir”. [6][8]
Assaf’s work, whether his own songs or songs for other artist, became known to have a unique quality and sensuality tackling sensible social and cultural subjects and themes.[4]
Salim has also enjoyed a singing career where he released few of his own songs.[9] [1][10][11]His first song was in 2011 written for his bride on their wedding “Serti- Eli”[4]. In 2012, he released his second song ‘Lawali Albi’ and in 2014 the songs ‘Mesh Khayef’ with Music Video Directed by Ruby Malek, and “Eza fik”[12] with Music Video directed by “Ruby Malek”.
“Shu Helwi” 2015 , “Al Jabal” 2015, “Ah Ya Bayi” 2016 with Music Video by ‘Ruby Malek”, “Kifo Albik” 2018 with Music Video directed by Salim himself starring the Lebanese actress “Rania Issa”, “7ala 7ala” 2019 with Music Video directed by Sherif Terhini starring the Syrian actress “Yara Kasem” that was a smash hit in the Middle East. Most of the songs were released with their Music Video. [1]
His career included music production for Film & TV Music for series such as “Kawalis El Madina”,“Wen Kenti”“Wlad El Balad”[13] and others. He also produced many renowned Commercial Ads for giant international companies like TOYOTA, ZEIN & PEPSI.He released his debut album in October 2016 including and called it SALIM ASSAF[14]. Including his released songs in addition to: MALLAYT & AH YA BAYI. During the Quarantine in 2020 he released his hit “El Wade3 El 7ali” that talks about the feeling of being far away from those we love.[15]
Entrepreneurship
[edit]Assaf is the CEO and founder of Music Designers, a production company that caters to weddings, commercials, film, personal and corporate events, as well as writing, recording and producing music for TV ads, talent shows, albums, remixes, radio jingles, websites and much more.[5]
Personal life
[edit]Salim Assaf married his wife, Amani Wehbe, in 2011 in a beautiful wedding that was attended by many popular Arab music singers. He composed and sang “Serti- Eli” as a gift to his wife on their wedding.[16] Their first child, Lilia, was born in 2012 and was followed by Sami in 2015 then Mark in 2019. [17][18]
