Forensic and Scientific Services

Forensic and Scientific Services (FSS) is part of Queensland Health and provides scientific services in the state of Queensland, Australia.

Services

FSS services are part of the government response to threats to public health, threats to the environment, epidemics, civil emergencies, criminal investigations and coroners' inquiries into reportable deaths. Services include:

  1. Air, water and soil testing.
  2. Food safety and nutrition testing.
  3. Environmental contaminant investigation.
  4. Infectious disease investigation.
  5. Radiation safety and assessment.
  6. Expert scientific advice and consultancy.
  7. Pharmaceutical and illicit drug analysis
  8. Blood alcohol and drug analysis
  9. Mortuary and grief counselling services, coronial pathology and toxicology services and investigation of sudden or suspicious death. These services are located in the John Tonge Centre.
  10. Accident, crime scene and disaster (fire, flood, explosions) evidence analysis.
  11. DNA profiling.
  12. Delivery of expert evidence in court.
