Jonathan Fernandez (Jon Paul)

Jonathan Fernandez (born 31 October 1990) is a Spanish-American professional Judoka from Miami, Florida. He represented Team USA during the 2012-2016 Olympic cycles.

Biography

Jonathan Fernandez, also known as Jon Paul, is a fourth-degree black belt in judo who has been dedicated to the art for most of his life. He competed in the 81 kg events during his five years of Olympic experience. Jonathan started training Judo with his father, Alberto Fernandez, at the age of 6. Mr. Fernandez became Jonathan's sensei, teaching out of his dojo club Baragua Judo Kai in Miami, Florida . While Alberto Fernandez kept him up on his Judo skills, Jonathan wrestled in highschool from 2008-2009 in the 189lb weight class. During his short time wrestling he made big achievements; Becoming District Champion , Regional Runner up , and coming in 6th place at the FHSAA Championships. Jonathan utilizes his wrestling skills to help him win matches. As a shortened name for his acting career, Jonathan Fernandez also goes by Jon Paul. In terms of film, he is most known for his work on The Finest 2020, Killing Bryan Bravo (2020), and Personal Thirst (2021).

Achievements

From 2012-2016 Jonathan Fernandez competed for Team USA in the Men's Olympic 81 kg Judo. He has competed nationally and internationally as a 3rd degree blackbelt, now a 4th degree blackbelt in Judo. During the first few years of competing (2012-2013), he was a two-time men's 81 kg Judo champion. Starting in 2012, he won the Bronze Medal at the Men's 81kg Judo World Cup(Miami, Florida). In 2013 Jonathan Fernandez was the Pan-American Bronze Medalist (San Jose, Costa Rica) at 81 kg. During the same year he won 9th place at the 2013 World Judo Championships (Rio, Brazil), and 5th place at the 2013 men’s 81 kg Judo Grand Prix (Miami, Florida). He then won a Silver Medal at the 2013 men’s 81 kg El Salvador World Cup (San Salvador, El Salvador).
