Suthasini is a Singapore born singer-songwriter, playback singer, lyricist, music producer, host/anchor and performer. She is the first female winner of Vasantham star 2011, a regional reality singing contest hosted by MediaCorp Vasantham.[1]
Early Life
[edit]Suthasini was born and raised in Singapore. She is an indian who is fluent in english and tamil. Suthasini started singing at the tender age of 5. She grew up in a musical family and performed for various stage shows/gigs before taking part in Vasantham star 2011.[2]
Carrier
[edit]Suthasini started singing when she was 5 years old. With the support of her family, she took part in several community club singing contests throughout the years. In 2011, Suthasini took part in Vasantham star (regional reality singing contest) and she became the first female to clinch the title. She was also the first winner to have garnered the unanimous support of the three resident judges and to have received the most number of SMS votes from viewers.[1]
Suthasini, upon her victory started learning Hindustani classical music. She then represented Singapore in an International singing competition hosted by Mediacorp Vasantham , named 'Superstar Asia Challenge 2013'. She was paired up with Kaushik Suresh to compete against contestants from Malaysia and Sri Lanka and came in as a runner up.[3] In that very year, she also shared the stage with profound artistes such as The Wanted and Wang Leehom along with previous Vasantham Star winners such as, Shabir and Ebi Shankara for the live telecast of celebrate TV50 hosted by Mediacorp Channel 5.[4]
In 2014, Suthasini released her first Independent album named, Only u.[5] She officially released three singles with music videos on Mediacorp Vasantham and her Youtube channel.[6] Her tracks were produced, mixed and mastered in Chennai, India. [5]
In 2015, Suthasini represented Singapore in Astro Malaysia’s International Superstar competition.[5] Three different teams, 'Vannathirai', 'Vinmeen' and 'Vellithirai' competed for the title. She was allocated to represent team 'Vinmeen' along with contestants from Canada, Mauritius, India and Malaysia. Team Vannathirai won the title, making team 'Vinmeen' the 1st runner-up. Suthasini and her team won the cash prize of USD 70,000.[7] In that very year, Suthasini was part of the most extravagant concert, 'Vasantham PonVizha Live' hosted by MediaCorp Vasantham. More than 4,000 people descended on the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre for the concert which featured performances by 100 local talents including 25 musicians, 30 singers and 50 dancers. Suthasini performed a duet number with special guest Ranjith (singer) and also shared the stage with playback singer chinmayi.[8]
Suthasini made her Indian playback singing debut in 2016. She recorded her first solo track, 'Pogadhe' for music director, Mohamaad Ghibran for the film, Chennai2Singapore.[9] Music composer Ghibran and Chennai2Singapore's director Abbas Akbar released the six songs from the movie on a road trip from Chennai to Singapore. 'Pogadhe' track was released when they reached Myanmar.[10]
'Pogadhe' track took the 21st spot on Oli 96.8FM for the top 50 songs of 2016.[11] In mid 2016, Suthasini also formed her very own Indian all-girl band named, 'Girls Empower'. 'Girls Empower' collaborated with 2D Entertainment to cover 'Adi Vaadi Thimura' track from the film, Magalir Mattum (2017 film) , composed by music director, Mohamaad Ghibran which was received well by audience from Singapore and around the world.[12]
