David Oluwatobiloba Adeyemi
David Oluwatobiloba Adeyemi (born June 14, 1997) is a Young Nigerian Innovator and Public Speaker known for his creatively inclined ideologies, problem-solving skills and inventions particularly the award-winning eco-friendly domestic cleaning solutions (Ecogenic Solutions) produced using recycled fruits and vegetable wastes. The solution is said to 5 times more effective, safer and non-toxic than all chemically based domestic cleaning solutions in the market. On October 19, 2018, he graduated from Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State with a degree in Microbiology.
Life
David’s scientific journey started at age 4 when his granddad gifted him an encyclopedia titled “The Science of Everything” for his birthday and ever since then, he has been so interested in understanding how things work, why problems arise and most importantly how to solve these problems. As an innovator, he believes the purpose of his existence is to create, develop and implement solution pathways to problems around him particularly in the areas of Environment and other Social Causes.
From creating a door to door snack hub while in school with the aim of reducing the rate at which students complain about stomach ulcer to creating a device that could help security operatives see through clothes thereby reducing the rate of suicide bombing attacks to creating a model alternative and sustainable systematics which involves powering houses using methane gas generated from the suck-away. He had always known right from time that he had an incline spirit for social causes.
While working on his final year project topic as a student of Microbiology, Ajayi Crowther University. David who was once a victim of chemical poisoning from using cleaning solutions stumbled upon disturbing facts about food wastes and saw the need to recycles suit and vegetable wastes into products that would serve as safer alternative to chemically based cleaning solutions.
David works hand in hand with fruit and vegetable sellers around his vicinity which he swaps their spoils for valuables in return. He has been able to recycle over 700KG of fruit and vegetable wastes in a small scale thereby impacting and providing indirect jobs for over 33 sellers. Thereby promoting sustainable living, curbing food wastage and promoting a conducive garbage-free environment.
By 2024, David hopes to have been able to provide 1.5 Million Indirect jobs, Be responsible for 4 out of every 5 ecofriendly "Made In Nigeria" product in the market, Responsible for 70% of the recycled food waste in the country, Hit # 5 Billion from food waste recycling, Become the product choice of every Nigeria woman and Make it to the front page of Forbes Magazine with the header “The Future of Environmental Protection”.
Since the world is craving for a solution to climate change and environmental degradation and switching to eco-friendly alternatives he believes this is the Microsoft of Environmental Protection & Sustainability.
David emerged the Students Innovations Challenge Judges Choice Award Winner where he received an ovation from the Vice President (Prof Yemi Osibajo) for his Invention, 2018 Leap Africa SIPA Fellow, Mikano STEM Finalist, International Global Network Ambassador & was invited by the president of Egypt H.E Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to represent Nigeria at the Arab and African Youth Platform.
David has claimed to be 70% closer to an ecofriendly method of degrading nylon bags in 6 weeks.
Ecogenic Domestic Cleaning Solutions
Patent Number: NG/P/2018/223
Ecogenic Solution is a startup that recycles food wastes into cost-effective, eco-friendly and 100% safe domestic cleaning solutions. As an innovator and eco-preneur, David created a startup which recycles food wastes into 100% safe domestic cleaning solutions.
Food wastes are considered the most toxic forms of municipal organic wastes with over 60% ending up at landfills - whenever we try burning them up this results in serious air pollution and the death of 100 per 100,000 Nigerians. The inspiration to create this came in after coming across a disturbing fact; “Everyday, a newborn dies as a result of exposure to contaminated environment & polluted water associated with food wastes.” - (WHO)
Since there is no proper method of getting rid of these wastes, after decomposition the residues are flushed into waterways making it unsafe for drinking, environmental degradation and serious health conditions in individuals around that vicinity he then saw the need to convert these food wastes into products that will benefit us and our environment and the need to derive eco-friendly products that will be inexpensive and will serve as better and safer alternatives to their chemically based counterparts in the market the first of its kind in modern green chemistry history and received a patent from the Federal Government.
A bottle of Ecogenic Domestic Cleaning solutions can serve as a dish, fabric and toilet washer, Air purifier, Water purifier and Organic insecticides (Ant & Cockroach Repellents). Lab works showed that this product is 5 times safer, eco-friendly and effective than 17 domestic cleaning solutions in the Nigerian market.
David emerged the Students Innovations Challenge Judges Choice Award Winner were he received an ovation from the Vice President (Prof Yemi Osibajo) for his Invention, 2018 Leap Africa SIPA Fellow, Mikano STEM Finalist, International Global Network Ambassador & was invited by the president of Egypt H.E Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to represent Nigeria at the Arab and African Youth Platform.
