Badaling Wildlife World is the largest mountain wildlife park in China, located at the foot of Badaling and close to the Badaling Expressway. The park has five functional areas: wildlife tour area, ecological reserve, mountain forest sightseeing area, ancient culture area and leisure area. The park covers an area of nearly 6,000 acres, with more than 100 kinds of nearly 10,000 wild animals.[1]

In May 1998, the zoo was opened, and in 2007, the Beijing Municipal Planning Commission and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscaping invited experts in urban planning, scenic spots, and cultural heritage protection to develop a new planning scheme for the Badaling-Thirteen Tombs scenic spot, in which the zoo was to be demolished. However, the demolition plan was later not implemented.[2]

On July 23, 2002, a group of animals donated by Badaling Wildlife World to Afghanistan passed export quarantine and went to Afghanistan in mid-August of the same year. In addition to a pair of African lions, "Zhuang Zhuang" and "Kai Ni", who were in estrous for the first time, Beijing Badaling Wild Animal World also donated brown bears, peacocks, pearl chickens, and black chickens at the request of Afghanistan.[3]

Incidents

[edit]

On July 23, 2016, a family of four was attacked by a tiger when two women got out of the car during a drive to the Northeast Tiger Park in the Badaling Wildlife World Beast Area, resulting in one death and one injury. In the initial interview with the media, it was said that the young man and woman had a verbal argument in the car, and the woman suddenly got out of the car and dragged the male driver's door, after which she was attacked by the tiger that leapt out, resulting in a tragedy.[4] However, this statement was later verified by authoritative media reporters as untrue, and the park authorities never checked with the victim's family before publishing this statement. According to the injured woman in question, she misjudged that the car had arrived at a safe area, like the recreation area she had passed before; and that she was seasick and wanted to change seats with her husband. So get off. Instead of the previous park's "oral argument" said.[5] According to the propaganda department of the Beijing Yanqing District Committee, Badaling Safari Park was ordered by the relevant departments to suspend operations and under investigation.[6] After investigation, the tourist Zhao was injured by the tiger attack because he did not comply with the park's regulations and got off without permission, and his mother Zhou got off without permission to help and was killed by the tiger attack. The investigation team found that the incident does not belong to the production safety responsibility accident. On the same day, Badaling Safari Park stated that it would temporarily close the Northeast Tiger Park and suspend self-drive tours of the mastodon area, while the park was renovated to improve safety measures.[7] The case was heard in the Yanqing District People's Court on December 19, 2017, and the plaintiff Zhou Moufang's lawyers claimed a total of $2.18 million from the defendant zoo party, and the case was adjudicated on a later date.[8]

On April 10, 2021, a female tourist got off the bus in the mammoth area of Badaling Wild Animal Park in Beijing. According to a video taken by a netizen, the video shows the tiger staring at the tourist after seeing someone get off the bus and then walking quickly toward the person who got off. The tourist told the patroller that she mistakenly thought she could get off after seeing the fence grid, and she apologized to the staff and left.[9] After, the park decided to suspend operations for one day on April 15.[10]
