Dr. Jonathan Palant joined Turtle Creek Chorale as Artistic Director in 2007. Under his leadership, the Chorale has enjoyed milestone events which include the Texas premier ofNight Passage, a one-act opera based on the arrest of Oscar Wilde in London, and the premiere of the TCC commissioned work, Our Better Angels, composed by Andrea Clearfield, with text by Robert Espindola. Another first was the Chorale’s performance with the United States Army Chorus. This event marks the first time a GALA affiliated chorus has appeared with a U.S. military music ensemble.

Dr. Palant served as conductor of the Michigan State University Collegiate Choir and Assistant Director of the MSU Men’s Glee Club. In Michigan, he also served as Adjunct Professor of Choral Music at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan.

As Music Director at San Pasqual High School in Escondido, California, Dr. Palant’s competitive vocal ensembles consistently rated among the best high school choirs in Southern California and were seen in major motion pictures such as SKG/Dreamworks’ Almost Famous. In Philadelphia, Dr. Palant was Director of the Roxborough Community Men’s Chorus and the Spruce Street Singers. In addition, he conducted productions for the St. Joseph’s University musical Theater program.


Dr. Palant is in demand as an adjudicator and clinician. He has served on the state board of the Michigan chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, and currently sits on the Youth First Texas Executive Board where he is founder and conductor of Dallas PUMP!, a choir serving GLBTQA youth. Dr. Palant’s choral arrangements and compositions have been performed by numerous ensembles; his work is published by Alliance Music Publishing, Inc.

Dr. Palant holds degrees from Michigan State University, Temple University and the University of Michigan.
