Gergana Lapteva is a Bulgarian writer and scientist, member of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute (BAI), geologist in the Base "St. Kliment Ohridski" in the season 2006/07 and next.
Biography
[edit]Gergana Grisheva Lapteva was born on February 17 in Sofia. He graduated from the the School of Fine Arts "Ilia Petrov" with a degree in Fine Painting. She received his higher education at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski ”, in the Department of Geology, Paleontology and Fossil Fuels, where he defended a diploma thesis on“ Lower Cretaceous ammonite fauna in the Elena Fore-Balkans ”, and subsequently worked on a doctoral dissertation in the region of town Biala.
Gergana Lapteva is a member and works at the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute - National Operator of the Bulgarian Antarctic activity and the National Center for Polar Research (NCPI) [1] at Sofia University - as head of the Department of Culture.
She is a participant in seven Bulgarian National expeditions to Antarctica. In the period 2007-2010, she worked on a joint geomorphological project with the Portuguese scientist Alexandre Trinidade (University of Lisbon). Since 2011 she has participated as an artist and photographer in a number of "Eco art" projects (a contemporary art form aimed at creating in sync with the environment, created by artists who are concerned about local and global environmental situations, believing that the restoration of man's connection with nature is one of the priorities of modern society). Together with Bisera Yosifova, director of the National Art Gallery and Prof. Christo Pimpirev, director of BAI participates in a project for a branch of the National Art Gallery in Antarctica.
Gergana Lapteva is the founder and coordinator of the BAI ECOANTAR program, the Terra Australis Incognita project (The Unknown Southern Land), the Eco Antarctica project and the Antarctic Feeling project.
Gergana Lapteva is named after the island of Lapteva. The name was given by the Commission on Antarctic Names (at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) for Lapteva's contribution to Bulgaria's activities in Antarctica. It is located in the Palmer archipelago, Antarctica (64°14′50″S 63°30′47″W / 64.247222°S 63.513056°W).
She is the author of the almanac "The Unknown Southern Land - Terra Australis Incognita".
She is the author of the books "South Direction - Journey to Antarctica", "Gate of the Gods. South America - Inca Land Stories ”and "The Coin".
