Trudy Cooper is an Australian comic book artist best known for co-writing the comics Platinum Grit and Oglaf.
Biography
[edit]Trudy Cooper grew up with her brother who became a physicist.[1] She was raised in Australia and currently lives there.[2] She has stated she went to an art college and majored in Animation.[1] She has said she discovered comics for adults in her teens and her comic work has been inspired in part by her own life and people she knows.[1]
Comics
[edit]Cooper and Gail Simone co-created the "Spoilsport" comic story in C. Spike Trotman's Smut Peddler Presents: My Monster Boyfriend.[3][4] She helped illustrate Oh Joy Sex Toy by Erika Moen.[5] Cooper, Doug Bayne and Ben Baker co-produced an illustrated cartoon for The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting, a sketch comedy show in Australia.[6][7][8]
Platinum Grit
[edit]Trudy Cooper and co-writer Danny Murphy first published the award-winning comic Platinum Grit in 1994.[9] Doug Bayne also inked and contributed to the script between episodes 1-12. The series is noted for sexual drawings of girls and surreal offbeat humor.[10] The most recent episode was episode 20 in 2009.
Oglaf
[edit]Cooper and Doug Bayne started publishing the sexually explicit webcomic Oglaf in 2008, and a new comic is published each Sunday on Oglaf.com.[11][12] Cooper has described the comic as "porn."[13] The comic takes place in a fantasy realm and there are many recurring themes.[14] It has been praised for depictions of gender and sexuality.[15] It has also been noted for including people of color and those who identify as LGBT.[16]
