Quotes

[edit]

Boston Globe's review of A Far Cry, a 17th piece string ensemble based in the Boston, Massachusetts area. LyricaFest’s 2009 Young Artist Quartet in Residence includes three founding members of A Far Cry - (Ashley & Courtenay Vandiver and Andrew Ang) in residence at New England Conservatory & the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. “Conductorless and fancy-free, a chamber orchestra takes flight- They have forged a group sound that is both tightly unified but also flexible and nuanced. The night ended with a fiery rendition of “Turceasca”…It’s a great piece for showcasing the ensemble’s collective chops and the broader joie de vivre that is obviously at the core of this enterprise. That’s basically what happened with the 16 young conservatory- trained string players who founded a Far Cry, and conductorless chamber orchestra based in Jamaica Plain, MA….The idea was incubated at three music festivals- LyricaFest, Kneisel Hall and Yellow Barn- and came to life in early 2007.”

Music Review- Boston Globe March 2009[2]

“What do the St. Lawrence Quartet, the Hausmann Quartet and Aronowitz Ensemble have in common? Apart from being critically acclaimed string- based ensembles, their members all met for the first time during a summer course or festival. The members of the Hausmann Quartet and the Aronowitz Ensemble credit New Jersey’s LyricaFest and the International Musician’s Seminar ( IMS) in Prussia Cove, respectively for giving them the time, space and inspiration they needed to take the first step towards becoming professional ensembles. “

Catherine Payne- Strad Magazine, Summer Plus Supplement 2008[3]

‘During the festival’s two-week span, every floor buzzes with sound: every window emanates light and laughter. Indeed, the house is the hub of all LyricaFest activities: lessons, coachings and rehearsals are all staged within its spacious walls, and there are rooms for practicing, napping, reading and resting.”

From the Muse- a publication of the Longy School of Music 2004[4]

“It's so exciting to see a group of talented young artists, like the Neave Quartet take flight; that's what Lyricafest is all about in its essence- Watching these young artists take off into the world of music and share their talents.”
