Young Gun Silver Fox
[edit]Young Gun Silver Fox is a London based band formed by Andy Platts and Shawn Lee (musician). Their idea of creating a west coast inspired Yacht rock band first came up in 2006 when Platts and Lee met online[1]. Their debut album West End Coast was finally released in 2015. The band has had success mainly in England, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, where they have had concerts since 2015 and 2016.
Formation
[edit]Young Gun Silver Fox eventually began working on West End Coast in 2012 with the aim of creating catchy soft pop inspired by the late 1970's music from the American west coast. Shawn Lee names The Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald (musician), Fleetwood Mac, America (band), Hall & Oates, 10cc and Supertramp as examples of bands that inspired them to make West End Coast[2]. Upon making West End Coast Shawn Lee had made around 30 albums which made him a very experienced songwriter and Multi-instrumentalist. Andy Platts was, at that point, also an experienced singer and songwriter, being the Frontman of the English band Mamas Gun, who had released 3 albums at that point[3].
Albums
[edit]West End Coast
[edit]The debut album by Young Gun Silver Fox was released late 2015. West End Coast was recorded by Pierre Duplan in Trans Yank Studio in London. It was mastered by George Horn at Fantasy in San Francisco. With a few exceptions, Platts and Lee wrote, performed and arranged everything on the album. Some songs on the album were instrumentally fully completed by Shawn Lee, with Platts arranging the melodies, lyrics and vocals (for example Emilia and Distance Between Us). In other cases Platts wrote the entire song with Lee perfecting the song in the details (for example Better and Long Way Back). Many other songs are as Platts describes it 'in between' that[4]. The Single (music) and opening track You Can Feel It was actually the last song written for the album
AM Waves
[edit]The second album released by Young Gun Silver Fox was named AM Waves. After the release of the singles Midnight in Richmond and Lenny in November of 2017 [5], the album was set to be released early 2018. After the passing of Walter Becker of Steely Dan early in September 2017, Shawn Lee wrote Steely Dan had a big influence on the second album of Young Gun Silver Fox[6]. AM Waves released first in the Benelux on 20 April 2018, with Japan, Korea, Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom following after in the months of May and June[7]. After the album was released, Take It Or Leave It, Love Guarantee and Kingston Boogie were released as singles in the Netherlands. AM Waves was well received by radio stations and Critics.
Success in The Netherlands
[edit]Young Gun Silver Fox has had much success in The Netherlands. Dutch radio host Gerard Ekdom gave them much radio play on Radio 2 (Netherlands), the most popular station of the country[8]. Since 2015 the band saw multiple songs become the 5-sterren-track of the week on the radio station, which is the 'hittip' of the week and will be played daily on the station the entire week. The songs You Can Feel It (2015)[9], Long Way Back (2016)[10], Lolita, Midnight in Richmond (both 2017)[11], Take It Or Leave It and Love Guarantee (both 2018)[12] all became 5-sterren-tracks and Kingston Boogie became a 'Topsong', a similar accomplishment. Young Gun Silver Fox gets, as of July 2018, still regular radio play in The Netherlands [13] and have played live in the Radio 2 studio on multiple occasions [14]. In 2017 Long Way Back was voted in to the Top 2000 on place 1696[15], a very popular list played on the radio between Christmas and New Year's Eve with the 2000 best numbers of all time. Millions of people vote for the list each year.
