Stage 1
[edit]- What is the difference between a block and a ban? (WP:BLOCK, WP:BAN)
- A: A block is a software-enforced action that prevents a user or IP from making edits to the wiki, from limited times to indefinitely, depending on the circumstances. Bans, on the other hand, are not software-enforced and are usually in response to edit-warring or conflicts.
- What sort of edits can be rolled back?
- A: Nearly any edit can be rolled back; however the rollback feature is primarily used to revert blatantly unconstructive edits like vandalism or nonsense.
- Have you ever
- • !Voted in an request for adminship? Done
- • Requested page protection? Done
- • Reported a vandal at administrator intervention against vandalism? Done
- • Participated in an administrator's noticeboard, or /I discussion? Done
- • Tagged an article for speedy deletion, prodded it, or listed it at articles for deletion? Done
- What is your view on Wikipedia Watch?
- A: The person who created that website seems to have rather skewed views on how Wikipedia works. Also, the fact that he keeps records of alleged plagiarism by editors is absurd; many of our editors may not realize much about plagiarism or Wikipedia's policies; when an experienced editor sees it they may tag that or simply revert that edit.
Stage 2
[edit]Okay, since you seem to know what you're doing, here are some harder ones. A lot of these are more opinion based than factual, but your replies will indicate your knowledge of Wikipedia more, plus I dislike questions where the answers are written straight out (then again, I did link them D:).
- How would you deal with this user if you were an admin at the time?
- A: That user didn't do a whole lot wrong however all he seems to do is edit talk pages. WP:NOTFORUM? Small block or warning at least I guess.
- What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A: I suppose my best edits involve vandal-reverting and the creation of the page Skyward which could still use work (that reminds me, I should work on that!). That was created on my old account, however, so I don't know if that counts. Other than that, I occasionally do copyedit work.
- Under what circumstances would you issue an only warning?
- A: Only for severe, severe infractions of Wikipedia policy. An example is very quickly blanking or vandalizing pages when they weren't warned before and they clearly don't intend to help the wiki.
- Under what circumstances may a non-free image of a living person be used in the infobox in their article?
- A: Only if a free-er image isn't available OR a free image wouldn't be a viable substitute.
- Choose a scenario from Filll's AGF Challenge 2 (directions), and try to answer it as best as you can.
- A: 2.1 "Taking a Leak": I believe that the links to negative reviews DO violate WP:BLP (more specifically WP:NPOV). The article should represent a neutral point of view, and could say, for example, "many people believe Leak's theories are incorrect" or that his books receive negative reviews but leave it at that.
- This question is usually directed at RfA candidates, but I think you are ready for it. Please take a look at the particularly NSFW scenario outlined here and state how you would respond to the IP's unblock request.
- A:I'd deny the request and require them to wait the 1-week ban. It's fair enough for the repeat vandalism they did -- and if they continue, they'll be blocked accordingly then.
- This question is ripped straight from east718 at Bibliomaniac's RfB, but yes, I will rephrase it slightly so that it makes more sense here. Please explain how you feel DHMO's RFA should have closed at this point, and if you were a 'crat what you would have actually done (for the latter, try not to say 'extension' or 'crat chat').
- A: In all fairness, I'd deny because of the episodes he's had and that he might misuse the tools. < This is why I'm not a 'crat :)
