One-Day-In is an internet portal and mashup, based on Google Maps. It was released in July 2009.[1] It's intention is to provide a timeline of the world's history and to visualize it on a world map, covering events in past, present, and future. It's main page is in English language, but it is possible to create and display articles in all languages. One-Day-In was created by the Polish web agency HolonGlobe. It's server is based in France.
One-Day-In is recommended as a useful and interesting application for teachers[2] and historians[3]. The statements are justified by the fact that One-Day-In contains over 5000 historic articles. However, it is regarded to be as useful for upcoming events[4].
Concept
[edit]Posting articles on One-Day-In is free of charge. When posting new articles on One-Day-In, the authors define the date, place, topic and keywords of the event they write about. Furthermore, they define the language in which the article is written. Other users can now search exactly after the criteria they are interested in. They can define a date range and explore, what happened during this time in the world; or what is going to happen, for example, next weekend at this place.
Different platforms
[edit]According to the One-Day-In homepage, an IPhone application and a Facebook application are under construction.
Further development
[edit]One-Day-In is implementing a Payback system in order to share ad revenue with the authors of its articles.[5]
