Season review

[edit]

Pre-season (July and August)

[edit]

Fortuna managed to sign Suvet and Bistrian, two of local rival team CFR Timișoara's stars, along with assistant coach Andra Vela

[2] [1]

September

[edit]

Fortuna's opening Liga I fixture suffered a delay due to the national team's program, and was played on 19 September, instead of on September 8. Fortuna received the visit of the reigning champions FC U Olimpia, which won the game by 5-0.

While Fortuna's 2nd round of the league game was also delayed, Fortuna was to play it's next game from the 3rd round on 26 September against local rivals CFR Timișoara. However, just a few days prior to the encounter, CFR Timișoara announced that it will fold, withdrawing after just two matches, and releasing all of its players. Most of the top CFR players (Șuveț, Ienovan, Grigore and Pavel) opted to join Fortuna, including the entire junior team.

Fortuna's match from the 2nd league round was finally played on 26 September (instead of the original 16 September), and Fortuna narrowly won at home against Universitatea Galați in a tense match where Universitatea's Bentoiu intentionally slapped Suvet on the back of the head when the game was stopped by the refferee. Bentoiu was promptly sent off, and Universitatea was forced to play in 10 the rest of the game.

October

[edit]

The 4th league round game was again delayed, so Fortuna went on to play in the 5th round on the 14th of October against newly promoted Independența Baia Mare. The away match was shockingly lost 4-5, even though Fortuna's squad was recently bolstered by the arrivals from CFR.

The 6th round of the league was played after a week on 21 October, on Fortuna's Comunal Stadium. A white tie, 0-0 was registered against Heniu.

On October 31, Fortuna went to Reșița mid-week for its debut cup game (2nd round) against local Banat Girls. Due to an injury and not being able to field enough players of the hosts, the game was stopped after a few minutes at the score of 2-0 (and subsequently ruled 3-0) for Fortuna and Fortuna progressed to the next round.

November

[edit]

In the 7th league round on November 4, Fortuna trashed Fair Play Bucharest in an away game 6-2.

After a week, in the 8th round on November 11, it tied 1-1 at home with Vasas.

After another week, Fortuna's 4th round league game was finally played on November 18 (delayed from October 7) and Fortuna made quick work, 4-0 against Universitatea Alexandria.

Mid-week, on Novermber 21 Fortuna played the 3rd round Cup game in Timișoara against 3rd League locals Juventus. On a very cold weather and again due to injury, the hosts abandoned the game at the score of 2-0 (and subsequently ruled 3-0), so Fortuna again progressed to the next round.

Finally, in the 9th league round, Fortuna visited CSS Targoviste on November 25, and won by 3-0, although at breaktime the score was 0-0, Fortuna finishing the first half of the championship on the 4th position out of the 9 remaining teams, with 4 victories, 2 ties and two defeats, for an overall of 18 points.
