Qi- Gong Psychotic Reaction is a term describing an acute, time-limited episode characterized by dissoctiative, paranoid, or psychotic or nonpsychotic symptoms that may occur after participation in the Chinese folk health-enhancing practice of qi-gong. <references> appendix 1 Outline for Cultural Formulation and Glossary of Culture-Bound Syndromes
According to Chinese folklore, the exercise of Qi-gong initiates an unfavorable flow of energy or chi throughout the body. Contrary to initial desire of a meditative state, an anomaly occurs presenting erratic sensations with effects from episodes lasting from fourteen to thirty days.
