Maitra did his schooling from South Point High School and is currently studying in Bhawanipur Education Society College. He made his first stage appearance at the age of six and since then has acted in almost 150 stage shows. He began his career as a film Actor at the age of just 10 when he played the protagonist in Riingo Banerjee's film ‘Ghuri’, an adaptation of ‘Kite Runner'. The very next year, he worked as a lead in the Bengali film ‘Chaplin' from which he rose to fame and also got ‘The Best Child Actor' award at ‘The Star Guide' Awards.Then, he worked in award winning bengali films like ‘Pakaram' and ‘Parapaar'. He made his debut in Hindi Films with the critically acclaimed film ‘Chauranga' directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra as the protagonist. ‘Chauranga’ also won many prestigious awards in many international film festivals. Soham's 2018 release was ‘Manojder Adhbhut Bari' directed by Anindya Chatterjee based on the story of the same name by Shirshendu Mukhopadhay where he played the titular character of Manoj which also made quite a stir at the box office.He then played the younger aged Srikanto in National Award Winning Director Pradipta Bhattacharyya's film 'Rajlokkhi O Srikanto' (2019). His latest release was 'Dwitiyo Purush' directed by Srijit Mukherji.
