Bobby Paul Edwards was a white South Carolina restaurant manager who has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for enslaving a black worker with an intellectual disability for five years, forcing him to work more than 100 hours a week without pay and frequently beating him with a belt. [1] After 5 years of watching over his slave workers, one of his customers called the police under suspicion of Forced labour. The police arrived shortly thereafter and took Edwards in for trial, during which he plead guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison and given a fee of $273,000 to the black cook with intellectual disability for forcing him to work without pay according to the Department of Justice.[2]
