The New Pennsylvania Project (NPP) is a 501(c)(4) voting rights organization with a primary purpose of voter registration. NPP focuses on voter engagement, registration, and education to mobilize, engage, and empower young residents and those living in underrepresented communities of color and immigrant communities.
NPP provides education about issues that matter in their neighborhoods such as social justice, economic justice, and fair education funding. The primary mission of the New Pennsylvania Project is to mobilize people to vote in every election - twice a year.
Overview
[edit]The New Pennsylvania Project was founded in May 2021 to expand Pennsylvania's electorate so it reflects the state’s demographically changing population. NPP is modeled after the success of the New Georgia Project with a goal to civically engage, register, mobilize and empower often-ignored constituents, especially the youth and communities of color, to transform and expand the electorate across the battleground state of Pennsylvania.
Through data analysis, NPP identifies the gaps in engagement where disenfranchised constituencies reside and meet them where they are to discuss issues that matter to them to inspire voter participation.
Organization
[edit]Leadership
[edit]The New Pennsylvania Project is led by founding executive director Kadida Kenner. Kenner leads the organization's statewide efforts to register 1.7 million eligible yet unregistered voters in the Commonwealth. In 2022, Kenner was named one of City & State's Above and Beyond Distinguished Women in Pennsylvania for her leadership and dedication to political activism. She was also profiled as one of the Six Heroic Defenders of Democracy by The New Republic. Kenner also serves as co-chair of Why Courts Matter - PA.
