John Holl (born January 11, 1980) is an American writer, journalist and podcast host. He is the author of Drink Beer, Think Beer: Getting to the Bottom of Every Pint, Editor, Co-Founder of Beer Edge[1] and Contributing Editor for Wine Enthusiast.[2]
Career
[edit]John is the Editor, Co-Founder of Beer Edge and Contributing Editor for Wine Enthusiast. John has authored a number of books including the craft beer book titled Drink Beer, Think Beer: Getting to the Bottom of Every Pint.
John is a prolific podcaster and is currently co-host of the award-winning[3] Steal This Beer podcast, host of BYO NANO podcast[4] and co-hose of the Beer Edge podcast[5]. John was the senior editor of Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine. John was an editor for the beer industry's leading magazine All About Beer, before leaving in 2018.[6] He has worked for The New York Times[7], the New Jersey Monthly Magazine[8] and the The Wall Street Journal[9]
John is an international beer judge, and shared his experience in an article in the Daily Record.[10]
He has participated as a judge The Brussels Beer Challenge,[11] the International Beer Challenge,[12] for the 2014-2016 Great American Beer Festivals[13] and was a finalist judge for the 2010 - 2017 Samuel Adams LongShot Competition.[14]
John often performs speaking engagements including appearances at the 2018 Alberta Small Brewers Conference[15], the 2017 Minnesota Brewers Guild Conference[16], the 2017 Craft Brewing Events Conference, and the 2014 New Zealand’s Brewers Guild Awards dinner.
John has contributed a number of entries to The Oxford Companion to Beer.
John has appeared on the New York NBC Today Weekend show[17] and the New Jersey News 12 television show.[18]
John's work has received a number of awards including Best Book, honorable mention for Best Beer Podcast/Broadcast and honorable mention for Best Technical Writing for the 2019 North American Guild of Beer Writers ceremony.[19]
