“Alley Rose” is the 5th single released from Conan Gray’s third studio album “Found Heaven”. [1]It was first teased with a video of him singing the first verse and chorus uploaded on Tik Tok on February 27th. He first performed it for an acoustic set in Edinburgh and then it was released on March 8th 2024 under Conan’s record label, Republic Records. It was produced by Greg Kustin and all self written by Conan Gray. [2]Conan Gray says that he views this song as his first “love song”. [3]This song was written after Conan Gray was on a plane to London to see his at the time partner then got broken up with while on the plane. He says that the original name of the song was "Abbey Road" but then he changed the name because he didn’t want the song to have any correlation to the studio album of the same name by The Beatles. [4]The name “Alley Rose” came to be because Conan and this person’s first kiss happened in an alleyway. The rose came from this symbol that represents love to Conan that is seen throughout his previous work on his second studio album “Superache"[5]. Conan also feels that this song’s ambiguous name change makes the listener think of their own "Alley Rose". [6]This song was the very last song to be written for the album and is “the only one (song of the album) that is written about the aftermath” in Conan’s words. [7]While discussing the production Conan Gray says “I wanted live strings and I knew I wanted weird sounds” and also acknowledges the fact that the entire song is the same melody but only in different octave changes from the verses to the chorus. Conan Gray has played this song on programs such as [8]Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Live Vevo[9], Good Morning America[10], and every night on his “Found Heaven On Tour” every night for the last song of the show.
