Song |
"3, 2, 1 Breakin' Out!" is a song recorded by Japanese female group, Morning Musume. The song was released as a b-side on their thirty-ninth single "Shōganai Yume Oibito". The song, also written and produced by Tsunku, was used as the theme song for the 2009 Anime Expo, which the group was invited to as guest of honors. A contest was also held where fans could create a OPV (original promotion video) for "3, 2, 1 Breakin' Out!". The song later appeared on Morning Musume's Zen Singles Coupling Collection on the third disc as track number 12.[1]
Writing
[edit]Unlike the A-side, "Shōganai Yume Oibito" which displays their mature side, "3, 2, 1 Breakin' Out!" is an upbeat funky number. Ai Takahashi commented: "That song really feels like a Morning Musume song."[fn 1][2] Eri Kamei said, "We've had a lot of sad songs lately, so it was fun to have an upbeat song like this for a change."[fn 2][2] When Junjun first heard the song she thought the song would be something Americans would like.[fn 3][2]
Music video
[edit]Despite "3, 2, 1 Breakin' Out!" being a B-side, a music video was produced. The music video was directed by Masaki Takehisa[3] and was entirely shot with a green screen so that it would be easy for fans to create their own music video for the contest that was being held.[4]
OPV contest
[edit]Shortly after the release of "Shōganai Yume Oibito", to celebrate the opening of Morning Musume's official MySpace a OPV (original promotional video) concert was held, until June 19, 2009.[5] Tsunku, the producer of Morning Musume, and the group themsleves were chosen as the judges of the contest.[5] The winner of the grand prize was Zungry&Myungry from Japan.[6] Zungry&Myungry's OPV was included on their fifth music video collection DVD, Eizō The Morning Musume 5: Single M Clips (映像ザ・モーニング゙娘。5 ~シングルMクリップス~, Footage The Morning Musume 5: Single M Clips).[7]
Live performances
[edit]Unlike the A-side, "Shōganai Yume Oibito", "3, 2, 1 Breakin' Out!" wasn't performed on television. However, the song was performed various times at Morning Musume's concerts. The group first performed the song at the 2009 Anime Expo, which the song was being used as the theme song for.[6] The song was performed as the first song on their 2009 fall tour Nine Smile, which also happened to be member Koharu Kusumi's graduation concert.[8]
