Sword Art Online is a light novel series written by Reki Kawahara. In addition to an anime, Sword Art Online has spawned a number of video games, seven of which are officially-licensed. Infinity Moment

[edit]

At Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival 2011, a stage event announced Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online and Accel World series would be receiving video game adaptations.[1] The first SAO game, Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment (ソードアート・オンライン -インフィニティ・モーメント-, Sōdo Āto Onrain: Infiniti Mōmento) for the PlayStation Portable, was released on March 14, 2013 for Japanese players.[2]

Infinity Moment follows an alternate timeline from the canon: instead of escaping Sword Art Online on floor 75 like in canon, the players were forced to progress through the game's remaining 25 floors.[3]

Hollow Fragment

[edit]

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment (ソードアート・オンライン -ホロウ・フラグメント-, Sōdo Āto Onrain: Horō Furagumento) was the first SAO game to see a release outside of Japan; while Japan saw a release on April 24, 2014, it was also released in North America on August 19, 2014 and Europe and Australia on August 20, 2014.[4] Hollow Fragment is a remastered version of Infinity Moment, following the same plotline, but with a new Hollow Area.

Lost Song

[edit]

The third Sword Art Online game, known as Sword Art Online: Lost Song (ソードアート・オンライン -ロスト・ソング-, Sōdo Āto Onrain -Rosuto Songu-), was developed by Artdink and released in Japan on March 26, 2015 for the PlayStation 3 and Vita.[5][6] The game also saw a Traditional Chinese translation being released on April 28,[7] an English-subtitled version in Asia on May 12,[8] the PAL regions on November 13,[9] and North America on November 17.[10]

Taking place in ALfheim Online, the game occurs at the same chronological point as the Gun Gale Online arc in Sword Art Online II.[3]

Hollow Realization

Accel World VS Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight

[edit]

A crossover game between Sword Art Online and Accel World, Accel World VS Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight takes place in ALfheim Online. The game's story begins when ALO undergoes maintenance,[11] causing the worlds of ALO and AW's Brain Burst to merge.[12] The ALO players and Burst Linkers are forced to join together to fight the Seven Kings of Pure Color.[13] In the game, players utilize the Ground-Sky Active Change Battle to create a three-person party for combat in the air and on the ground.[11]
