"Sex" (The 1975 song) reception

[edit]

Hey there Giacobbe! I was revisiting the "reception" section, and I found the paraphrase of the DIY review to be of concern in that it does not meet WP:NPOV. I must apologize for this, as I did not encounter it during my spot checks. This statement (i.e., DIY's Emma Swan praised the couplet, "she's got a girlfriend anyway", deeming it both the most memorable point on the album and the track's only decipherable line.) does not accurately represent Swan's two-star review, which essentially says that in a "baffling" and "laughable" album that lacks "ideas" and "any distinguishing factors", the "she's got a girlfriend anyway" line in "Sex" is "the most memorable point on the record" for being its [the record's] "only decipherable line". This does not seem particularly praiseful, so please rephrase accordingly. Cheers! KyleJoantalk 03:29, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@KyleJoan: I disagree in the paraphrasing not meeting WP:NPOV. "not accurately represent Swan's two-star review, which essentially says that in a "baffling" and "laughable" album that lacks "ideas" and "any distinguishing factors"": This pertains to The 1975, not the song "Sex". "the "she's got a girlfriend anyway" line in "Sex" is "the most memorable point on the record" for being its [the record's] "only decipherable line"": This is the only mention of the song in her review, which is what I've paraphrased as "DIY's Emma Swan praised the couplet, "she's got a girlfriend anyway", deeming it both the most memorable point on the album and the track's only decipherable line." I did not say she praised the song, but she did praise that single line, which is what I've written. Giacobbe talk 14:06, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But she didn't praise that line. She said it was memorable for being the album's (or the song's) only decipherable line and insinuated that it was the one point in the album where it was neither baffling nor laughable. That's hardly praiseful. If you still disagree, I'm prepared to ask for a third opinion or open an RfC. What do you think? KyleJoantalk 16:32, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How about this? DIY's Emma Swan deemed the couplet, "she's got a girlfriend anyway", both the most memorable point on the album and the track's only decipherable line. It retains all of the same information without the disputed praise. While "memorable" and "decipherable" are praiseful in some situations, they are ambiguous in others (e.g., "fun, fun, fun, fun" in Rebecca Black's "Friday" fits the two descriptions); and given the context of Swan's full quote, the praise is categorically not there. I see you haven't been active, so please consider the revised phrasing upon your return. Cheers! KyleJoantalk 05:37, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Part of the Band"

[edit]

Unlikely that you'll see this, I know, but I notice you've had the account for a while. I don't know if you'd come back for Being Funny in a Foreign Language but for now I'm carrying the torch with "Part of the Band". It'd be a challenge to keep up the standard you set for Notes on a Conditional Form, but it's a start. Hope that whatever you're up to, you enjoyed the new song and are sharing off-beat opinions on it. (It's kind of my daily iteration.) — Bilorv (talk) 00:15, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Bilorv: Hey Bilorv! Slowly coming out my hiatus now. Thank you for the kind words and I hope you're doing well. Looking forward to working with you again soon! All the best. Giacobbe talk 12:04, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
