Changes later this week
- Some of the interface icons and text sizes will change slightly, as part of the updates for improved accessibility and consistency. These icons are used in many features, including Notifications, Recent Changes, Beta Features, Visual Editor, 2017 Wikitext Editor, Code Editor, and others. While editor toolbars, dialogs, and menus will appear slightly bigger; elements on special pages will be slightly smaller. Functionality will not change. [1] [2]
- The deprecated #toc and #toctitle CSS ids have been removed. If your wiki was still using these for fake Tables of Content (ToC) then these might lose their styling. They can be replaced with .toc and .toctitle classes where appropriate. [3]
- TemplateStyles will be deployed to the Wikivoyages on 28 March 2018. [4]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 27 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 28 March. It will be on all wikis from 29 March (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 27 March at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be one hour earlier than usual on 28 March at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- From 9 April, the sort order of categories will be distorted for a short time. We are upgrading versions of an internationalisation library (ICU) and using a maintenance script to update existing database entries. This will last anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on wiki size. Read more details. [5]
- Changes are coming to search for Serbian projects. Cyrillic and Latin variants of a word and different grammatical forms of a word will be able to find each other. Read more on MediaWiki in Serbian or English.

modernpaper.co
did you really intend to move it to draft space. It's an advertisement, plain and simple, and the repeated attempts to insert it under various titles makes it in my opinion suitable for a block of the editor. I deleted the draft before I saw your note, but I'll restore it if you really want me to , and wait a few days before sending it to MfD. DGG ( talk ) 17:04, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
- @DGG:No, that's absolutely fine decision. I even started writing on your talkpage to request its deletion after I saw GMG's post, but your talkpage took too long to load on mobile. I only draftified it because of author's pleading on talk page after I tagged it for speedy deletion, the initial time it was created. That bussiness cannot be notable in the offing. –Ammarpad (talk) 17:10, 27 March 2018 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted
Hello Ammarpad. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia; if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.
- URGENT: Please consider helping get the huge backlog down to a manageable number of pages as soon as possible.
- Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
- Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
- Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. ~ Amory (u • t • c) 10:56, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Adding reference
Hello Ammarpad. Kindly guide me on how I can reference the article. Thank you SUcipit (talk) 17:45, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, @SUcipit: Read this help page referencing for beginners, also now one reference has been added, but you should endeavor to add more, because few references are usually not enough especially for biography of living people. –Ammarpad (talk)
Offline Hausa wiki
Hi there!
James told me there's an offline version of internet-in-a-box getting ready for shipping in Nigeria, and that they wanted to include the Hausa Wikipedia, which is a great idea (I'm one of the Kiwix guys, btw).
We've started to simplify the start pages and make them simpler, more offline-friendly: we remove links that do not work offline, dates that would be meaningless months later (generating a zim file is like taking a snapshot and users don't want "12 March 2018" shown forever on the landing page).
To that effect I've prepared quick, Hausa-specific landing page: ha:User:Stephane_(Kiwix)/Landing. Would you be willing to translate it?
The initial text comes from the English wiki but at the end of the day please make it yours: remove links that do not exist, add new ones, etc., so that it does look nice and friendly enough (but please no new images for the time being as long as we haven't got the CSS right).
Any questions -> drop me a note!
Thanks a million, Stephane (Kiwix) (talk) 08:25, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- I have started working on it. –Ammarpad (talk) 18:04, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Thanks
thank you for the feedback on the recent page for Koda Sail. We are trying to set up a bit of history for the tour company in which people can do their research. Similar to the Wiki pages for Intrepid Travel, Contiki Tours and Topdeck. We'll continue to work on it so that it doesn't read as an advertisement, but rather than a source for research.
Any tips or tricks to have it more like the Intrepid Travel, Contiki Tours and Topdeck pages would be appreciated.
Thanks Chris Ctab21 (talk) 01:22, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
- The short and candid answer is that you cannot. And neither can I help you to do so. The only tip I can give you is that for you to know Wikipedia doesn't allow promotion no matter how subtle. You can use alternative outlets however,to host your company profile. Thanks. –Ammarpad (talk) 05:43, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
New Page Review Newsletter No.10
ACTRIAL:
- ACTRIAL's six month experiment restricting new page creation to (auto)confirmed users ended on 14 March. As expected, a greatly increased number of unsuitable articles and candidates for deletion are showing up in the feed again, and the backlog has since increased already by ~30%. Please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day.
Paid editing
- Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.
Subject-specific notability guidelines
- The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
- Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies. A further discussion is currently taking place at: Can a subject specific guideline invalidate the General Notability Guideline?
Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled
- While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.
News
- The next issue Wikipedia's newspaper The Signpost has now been published after a long delay. There are some articles in it, including ACTRIAL wrap-up that will be of special interest to New Page Reviewers. Don't hesitate to contribute to the comments sections. The Signpost is one of the best ways to stay up date with news and new developments - please consider subscribing to it. All editors of Wikipedia and associated projects are welcome to submit articles on any topic for consideration by the The Signpost's editorial team for the next issue.

Thanks for helping me out with the move. I have some concerns about the edit history for both the original article and the destination article given the particular situation. Could you assist in merging their editing histories, or is it adequate as is? I'm still new to the whole merging editing histories thing and why it is done. Cheers! Jay eyem (talk) 06:04, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Jay eyem: History merge can only be done by Administrators. Consider adding this
{{Histmerge|History of professional soccer in Los Angeles}}
at the top of the page, it will be categorised where it will be seen by Admin who will do that. –Ammarpad (talk) 06:20, 1 April 2018 (UTC)- Done, thanks again! Jay eyem (talk) 06:31, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

Microweber Wiki page
Dear Ammarpad, thanks for your useful advice and guidance as to how to improve Microweber's Wiki page. Contributors have done a great job stripping the piece of the parts deemed problematic and I really appreciate that! I have also made a disclosure in my profile that I am a journalist at Microweber. I would like to have an infobox on the page with basic information about the CMS, the logo, website, etc. Do you think I can do that or it should be done by another contributor, considering my affiliation with Microweber? Thanks again for your help!

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Template Wizard script available for testing. It will show up as a puzzle-piece icon in the 2010 WikiEditor. You can click on the icon to insert a template.
- The Wikimedia Communities and Contributors survey is to be sent to participants around the world this week. If you are volunteer developer, and have contributed code to any pieces of MediaWiki, gadgets, or tools, please take 20 to 40 minutes to complete the survey.
Problems
- MediaWiki deployment train has been rolled back to version 1.31.0-wmf.26 on week 13, due to a multiplication of lost connections during MySQL queries. Some of the recent changes may have not been applied. They will be deployed next week. [7][8][9]
- The Notifications badge icons were overlapping other links. This has been fixed. [10]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 3 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 4 April. It will be on all wikis from 5 April (calendar).
- User subpages ending in
.json
will now be protected from other people editing them, like.js
and.css
pages already are. If you have a tool that stores static configuration, you can now use a subpage likeUser:Example/mygadget.json
to do this without concerns. [11] - Tidy will be replaced by RemexHtml on the next set of wikis. On April 4, we plan to turn off Tidy on all Wikiquotes (except frwikiquote) and Wikimedia chapters and user groups wikis. 23 wikis will have Tidy replaced this time. [12][13][14]
- AbuseFilter will transition to use OOUI starting April 4, and the rule editor will also be changed to a CodeEditor (ACE) similar to what is found on user JavaScript pages. The move to OOUI will continue over the next few weeks. [15] [16]
- In Special:Preferences, the preference "Reload the watchlist automatically whenever a filter is changed (JavaScript required)" is now only visible for users who have opt-out the New Filters for the Watchlist. [17]
- You can see names of individual abuse filters in Special:AbuseLog. Now if the name of an abuse filter contains some wikisyntax like links, it will not change to a link when displayed. [18]
- You can now search through filter patterns at Special:AbuseFilter. You may specify either a plain string or a regular expression and the matching filters will show a snippet of their pattern with the match highlighted. [19]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 3 April at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 4 April at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- If you're using, creating or improving Lua modules, you can give your feedback to help harmonizing the modules across wikis and add more useful functions.
- On April 11th, we plan to turn off Tidy on all wikis with less than 50 entries in all high priority linter categories. About 60 wikis will have Tidy replaced. Currently about 600 wikis have had Tidy replaced and we have another 300 wikis to go. We plan to finish this transition from Tidy to RemexHtml by end of June 2018. Please follow T175706 to monitor progress of Tidy replacement. [20][21]

Hello
Are you some sort of administrator. Who are you to say that a page is meaningless. Are a subject matter expert on this artist? By all means if you know better, just go ahead and find out why I'm wrong, and then tell me. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ILLAH.David (talk • contribs) 05:40, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, Because what you created didn't conform to Wikipedia policies, they've been deleted now; 1, 2 and this. They are all virtually blank, hence meaningless. If you want the space to develop article do so in draft space or in your user space untill fully developed then moved them to article space. –Ammarpad (talk) 11:07, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

Curve Fever Pro "draft" / Sources
Hello, in the Draft:Curve_Fever_Pro you wrote: "Concern by previous reviewers not addressed".
The previous reviewer wrote: "Added sources do not appear to be reliable and independent. One is a forum post (not reliable). Another is a one paragraph write up in a blog of unknown reliability. The third comes from a site hosting the game"
So is this not a reliable source when the lead moderator of this game has wrote it? Which source should we than take? --Loley777 (talk) 19:28, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, we need sources which are not written by the "lead moderator" of the game. That means Wikipedia needs sources which are independent and reliable. If the only sources you've is the one by the game's moderator/primary website, then that means the game is not notable and cannot be written about in encyclopedia.–Ammarpad (talk)

Questions regarding WP:COI & WP:PAID Declarations
Hello User:Ammarpad, I have reviewed the concerns I would like to clarify/confirm the best next steps. As as per the WP:COI concern, this was attempted to be addressed by disclosing a peripheral association to the SecurityScorecard entity, similar to my association with the HackMiami entity. These relationships are resultant of professional courtesy and a desire to facilitate information security community representation for these organizations, none of my contributions or edits are based on monetary compensation as per the WP:PAID terms. There is no money being paid to myself (infosecwiki) for the creation of any page or edits, and can attest that I do not represent any compensated third party media or PR organization. I acknowledge the tone of the article had room for improvement regarding tone and attempted to make significant changes and clarifications to change various tenses and adjectives to be more descriptive, fact oriented and less subject to opinionated influence. I intend to continue to contribute to a multitude of articles regarding information security entities, conferences, and other pages in this niche that could benefit from an extra set of hands. What is the best way move through the process of the of WP:COI and WP:PAID refutations? After review of the material it appears options have been exhausted and it is time to reach out to fellow contributors. :) Thanks for taking the time to work with me, looking forward to learning more.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Infosecwiki (talk • contribs) 07:28, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

autobiographies
Hi.
Thanks for reviewing so many articles. Just one tip: if you come across any biographies, it is always useful to check the username of creator. Like, you recently added A7 tag to Saifuddin khaled, which was created by user Saifuddin Khaled. In such instances, either the subject is notable or not, the creator should be notified about creating autobiographies. In Twinkle, it can be found under "single issue notices". Thanks again. See you around :) —usernamekiran(talk) 04:22, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

About polynomial function
Hi,
I really don't get why my changes to polynomial function have been reverted. As said in the article, this is NOT a content forking, the concept of polynomial and polynomial function are not the same. Notice also that there are articles about polynomial function in a lot of other languages.
I am really surprised that one person decided by himself to revert my changes without discussing it first. I don't think it is a really efficient way to do things on Wikipedia...

08:47:15, 9 April 2018 review of submission by ZuhailiKhalidHB
Hi
I'm the author of the Bytedance page which just got rejected.
I've already made a disclaimer on my talk page that explicitly states my affiliations to Bytedance: I'm an executive at a communications firm that works directly with the company.
I wanted to ask if a more detailed review can be given, one that can point me to reasons as to why the draft got rejected? How else can the tone of the article be made more neutral? Claims that Bytedance and its products are popular are backed up by media reports, which are cited in the draft.
Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

How do you suggest I create my company page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tejaspatil90 (talk • contribs) 11:37, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Tejaspatil90: You admit you are the Social Media Strategist of the company here aka spin doctor. That means you're here solely to spin and promote the company as part of your salaried work. That's not allowed on Wikipedia. The next best thing for you is to follow the procedure explained at WP:DISCLOSEPAY to disclose your client and comply with Wikipedia Paid editing policy. Also equally important is for you to read the Five Pillars of Wikipedia. –Ammarpad (talk) 11:49, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
Re:WP:VP(T/I)
Hello, I am FR. Since we are following each other about(I am not accusing you of WP:HOUNDING btw), I would like to know what exactly is wrong with me trying to help out on what seems a perennial problem for the community. I myself have read/heard much complaints from many Wikipedian that the main page looks outdated, the markup is from the 2000, could do with a modernisation etc. Just when I try to help out with it, everyone seems to jump out waving links to a discussion held 5 years ago(WP:2013 redesign proposal was the last RFC on this topic as far as I can see on Wikipedia:Main page redesign proposals). Perhaps you could shed light on this apparent hostility to change. — FR+ 10:14, 8 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, @Force Radical: First apologies for this belated response. You did nothing wrong in trying to help, but every great mission needs great preparation. That means it is also incumbent for you to thoroughly examine the archives before initiating such gigantic proposal. If you had done so, you would have seen what the people here saw. There's classic inertia (not hostility, as you thought!) to change and this is natural in an environment that don't have single executive authority. As I told and you saw in the archives many more elaborate, specially designed proposals failed to get consensus, then it is natural nondescript proposals (based on your beleif that main page is '"outdated") have zero chance of passing. So what make people have this strong inertia or reluctance to change?, I cannot actually answer this, but I believe the answer is really in reading previous failed proposals to understand why they failed.–Ammarpad (talk) 11:59, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Some pages have templates that describe problems with that article. There is now more information for mobile readers and what is wrong with the article and how they could help fix it. [22]
- You can now thank users for many more actions than edits to a page. This was one of the top ten requests in the Wishlist Survey last year. [23]
- The sort order of categories will have errors for a short time starting Monday 9 April (UTC). We are upgrading versions of an internationalisation library (ICU) and using a script to update the database. This will take between a few hours and a few days depending on wiki size. You can read more details. [24]
- Tag filter titles will now work better on wikis where the tag filter title is in a language that is written in another direction than the language of that wiki. This could for example be an English title (written from left to right) on a Hebrew or an Arabic wiki (written from right to left). [25]
Problems
- The bookmark icon for saved filters on the recent changes page disappeared because of new icon changes. This has now been fixed. [26]
- For a week in March rollbacks got both the
rollback
and theundo
tag on the recent changes page and other pages where you see tags. This has now been fixed. [27]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 10 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 11 April. It will be on all wikis from 12 April (calendar).
- Patrolled edits now have three states instead of two. Recent changes filters are updated to show unpatrolled, autopatrolled and manually patrolled edits. [28]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 10 April at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 11 April at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The iOS and Android apps will get synced reading lists later in April.

Dear Ammarpad, thnks for your job, and please help me to edit article to make it suitable to wiki rules. Please 1. note exactly where it appears to be more like an advertisement, 2. where the article is written not from a neutral point of view - 3. what sources are not refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AzretTeberdiev (talk • contribs) 19:38, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- H, AzretTeberdiev. If you want make it less promotional and more -encyclopedic, you've to trim it marcillessly. First, there's one section titled "Application" where you list over 50 places that are purportedly using the software; that is a hallmark of advertising. "Product and technology" section likewise needs serious pruning. You can read more rough guide on software articles at WP:NSOFTWARE. Thanks. –Ammarpad (talk) 10:43, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Menj and Johndoe10001
Hi Ammarpad, I noticed that you have recently been having issue with Menj and Johndoe10001 usage of Bismika Allahuma and other websites. Regarding review of my page 'Seqrite'
Hi,
I noticed that you recently reviewed my page 'Seqrite' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Seqrite) and cited that it appears to read like an advertisement. However, I feel I have sufficiently referenced each and every claim in the submission. These references include leading newspapers in India and other industry bodies which qualify as neutral sources.
Seqrite belongs to a publicly listed company (BSE & NSE), Quick Heal Technologies Ltd. and it is in public interest that information on this company (of course appropriately sourced) is readily available. Competitors of the brand have similar pages which are live on Wikipedia. Sharing a few examples for your reference 1. Sophos: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophos 2. Bitdefender: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitdefender 3. ESET: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESET
All these pages have similar information as mentioned on my page. I had been waiting in anticipation for over 2 months for my page to be reviewed. I would greatly appreciate if you could please relook at this page and approve it. If there is any specific information that you would like to remove/change, please let me know. Thanking you in advance.

Review Nexa Global Group Co. Inc.
Dear Ammarpad, I understand that Wikipedia does not publish pages for promotional purposes only. In the case of Nexa, we want people to understand our history and to be able to easily find information about our subsidiary companies and their added value to the community. We are a company that promotes safe sex and creates awareness around the use of condoms. The Nexa page is NOT for promotional purposes, but to make sure that, when our customers see our company name on our condom boxes, they can easily find more detailed information on our company and its activities. Best regards, Sebastian — Preceding unsigned comment added by BastiRitter1980 (talk • contribs) 09:02, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

I am a Cofounder, but not active in daily business. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BastiRitter1980 (talk • contribs) 09:15, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
- So you're acting both as a cofounder and Head of advertising department? Right? –Ammarpad (talk) 09:20, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
No, I am not head of advertising. I am simply an investor. The reason for creating this page is purely informational. Nexa has created a condom brand and is strongly promoting safe sex and a healthier awareness about condom usage. The nexa company name is on each of the condom packs. Should a consumer need to know more about nexa, then they should be able to easily find it in a public domain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BastiRitter1980 (talk • contribs) 09:25, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
- @BastiRitter1980:.
"The reason of creating this page is purely informational"
, information for whom? Whom are you targeting? –Ammarpad (talk) 09:30, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
the information is for everyone who is interested in companies endorsing/ promoting safe sex. We are aiming at universities, foundations, charities, healthcare organizations, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BastiRitter1980 (talk • contribs) 09:35, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
- That's perfect definition of advertising. You're aiming audience and you come to use Wikipedia for that. You just belied to yourself. So finally, know that Wikipedia cannot be used to get you more customers/clients. You should either put all your "information" on your personal/company website or you can use one of the sites listed here for that. Persistent creation of the article can get you blocked. Bye. –Ammarpad (talk) 09:50, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
I cannot see the contents of the Nexa page anymore. Have you deleted it? Thank you for a brief explanation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BastiRitter1980 (talk • contribs) 09:46, 13 April 2018 (UTC) Please understand that Nexa is trying its best to create awareness concerning STDs on a global scale. We are trying to do our part in creating awareness as over 20.000.000 million Americans get infected each & every year. Yes each year! And 360 million world wide. Such a dramatic problem is solved with a simple solution. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BastiRitter1980 (talk • contribs) 09:51, 13 April 2018 (UTC) It is not about getting more customers. How is trying to share information with health organizations, universities, etc. defined as advertising? I understand that you are a strong supporter to fight corporate spam. Trust me, so am I. But in our case, we are simply trying to share as much information about safe sex as possible. We want to link with like-minded organizations and institutions who are willing to fight STDs and support safe sex as much as possible. Wikipedia is the only place to do that on a more intellectual level. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BastiRitter1980 (talk • contribs) 09:57, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

I've downgraded this from A7 to BLP PROD. When an article is created and re-created several times, unless it's got serious legal problems existing, I find it's better to just let them "have at it" and see what they can do with the article. If there are no sources, the BLP PROD will stand and it'll be deleted anyway. Update: Now at AfD. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:44, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello Ammarpad.
