Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
We are currently running a study on the effects of adding additional information to SuggestBot's suggestions. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information on the SuggestBot study page.
IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.
Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:
- Views/Day
- Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
- Quality
- Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:
- Content
- Is more content needed?
- Headings
- Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
- Images
- Is the number of illustrative images about right?
- Links
- Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
- Sources
- For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. Regards from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker. -- SuggestBot (talk) 13:00, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

New features
- You can now use the "Autonym" font of the Universal Language Selector (ULS) to display the name of languages (for example in navigation templates) in their correct script. To do this, add the CSS class
"autonym"
to the elements that include language names. Note that this font only works for the name of languages, not for any other text. [1]
Problems
- There was a problem with Parsoid (the program used by VisualEditor to convert wikitext to annotated HTML) on November 4, between 19:40 and 20:40 (UTC). Encoding issues caused non-ASCII characters (including those with diacritics, like "é") to be broken when converted to wikitext and saved to the page. [2]
Future
- The Beta Features tool is now available on Commons and Meta-Wiki. With it, you can test new features before they're added for everyone. The plan is to add this tool to all wikis on November 21. [3]
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf3 was added to test wikis on November 7. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on November 12 and all Wikipedia wikis on November 14 (calendar). [4]
- The MassMessage tool will be added to all wikis on November 14. It will make it simpler to send messages across wikis. [5]
- The button of the Search page will soon be changed to be blue and bigger (see the difference). [6]
- You will soon be able to add a page name as parameter for
{{REVISIONID}}
,{{REVISIONUSER}}
and{{REVISIONTIMESTAMP}}
and similar functions, by writing for example{{REVISIONID:Apple}}
. [7] - In the future, when you hide a CentralNotice banner on a wiki, it will also be hidden on other Wikimedia sites. [8]

Greetings and...
Greetings Andrew Gray,
On the off-chance that you’re at a loose end and were looking for something constructive to do with your spare time over the next few minutes, and in the hopes that you’re feeling especially disposed to apply common sense to Wikipedia, I was wondering if you could do me, and Wikipedia, a favour.
Some years back, and on your own initiative, you kindly awarded me Wikipedia:Autopatrolled rights. Shortly afterwards, I asked you to do the same for another couple of users. Given that on those occasions both your initiative and mine were clearly to Wikipedia’s advantage, I thought I might appeal to you in another, slightly less clear-cut, case.
Until six months ago I was very active over at es:wiki where, in the course of my editing I naturally “met” several excellent editors. The other day, one of these, Maragm, an expert on Spanish medieval history, among other topics of encyclopaedic interest, asked me a couple of questions regarding editing here at en:wiki and I thought that it would be to everyone’s advantage if said editor were to given autopatrolled rights. It is, admittedly, a bit of a long shot, given that it normally requires "prior creation of 50 valid articles, not including redirects or disambiguation pages" and Maragm has “only” created a dozen articles here, so far (and 75 over at es:wiki). However, as I pointed out in my reply, granting of said right is discretionary, and I have no doubt whatsoever that it would be to Wikipedia’s advantage to be flexible in this particular case.
I quite understand if you reckon it's too much of a long shot, but there's no harm in trying :) Regards, --Technopat (talk) 21:51, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
- TechnopatSorry for the delay, I've been busy the past few days - autopatrolled is now set. I think a good record on eswp speaks for itself! Thanks for poking me about it; hopefully should save a bit of time for everyone in the long run. Andrew Gray (talk) 23:27, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you Andrew and Technopat, I promise to behave! Best regards, --Maragm (talk) 06:48, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
