Concerning "Phenomena" composer credit

[edit]

What is standard practice for "composer" credits? Goblin is listed as composer A) in the film, B) by the film's copyright holders, C) in promotional material, D) most online film databases. Their work comprises a large portion of the film's official soundtrack listing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Phenomena-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B003Z42Z8I — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robbymuller (talkcontribs) 01:15, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

as stated on the Phenomena talk page, we should follow the rules of the infobox. Which state to that articles info boxes should be respective to the content in the article. As is the case with several European genre productions of the past, their credits are often stated in a way that does not accurately reflect their film, whether its aliases, or fake film staff, etc. I believe listing the artists in the infobox who are composers does not make it clear what the score is. I feel the prose gives a more accurate description of the music score is in the article. Just listing three musicians in the infobox is not so clear. Not everything needs to be included in the infobox if it's not of the benefit of the reader. That's why I suggest leaving it empty is more clear than having a simple infobox entry which can be difficult to interpret accurately. Hope that helps @Robbymuller:. That's TroySchulz (talk · contribs). He mostly edits horror films, cinematographers, and alt-right memes. Most of his edits are either unsourced or poorly sourced, and he's generally incompetent, especially at identifying reliable sources. A lot of his edits are fairly easy to recognize because they add a lot of obviously unreliable sources to horror films. I usually do a mass-rollback on his edits whenever I find a new sock puppet. UPA & Gargantuas

[edit]

Hey there, I barely just now saw the UPA topic you brought up on the War of the Gargantuas talk page. I wish you had tagged me in that post because I don't receive notifications about new topics on talk pages unless someone tags me or I manually head to the talk page myself. I would have definitely thrown in my two cents and some sources to bring further validity to the matter. Anyways, since we're here, in the most recent book (released October 2017) on the subject, Ishiro Honda: A Life in Film, from Godzilla to Kurosawa by Steve Ryfle & Ed Godziszewski, it specifically states on page 222 that Saperstein's UPA entered a deal with Toho where they would co-finance 3 sci-fi films: Invasion of Astro-Monster, Frankenstein Conquers the World, and War of the Gargantuas.

On page 231 of that same book, it states that Gargantuas was the 3rd & last of the Toho/UPA collaboration. The next few pages explain that Saperstein was the one who hired Tamblyn, requested specific scenes be filmed for the overseas version, demanded the inclusion of Kipp Hamilton, and the shipment of film/sound negatives. The film was indeed a Toho/UPA co-production given that Saperstein co-financed the film and had some creative input during filming. We should restore the Toho/UPA co-production material since there is now a very recent source that confirms it. The Galbraith IV source is outdated by 10 years and some information in it is either inaccurate or missing. The Honda book outright confirms Gargantuas was indeed a Toho/UPA co-production. Armegon (talk) 19:08, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Armegon:. You are right, I should have pinged you. I don't think we've chatted too much before. :) Your source sound strong. Let's stick with the new source for now as its the most recent one. Hong Kong crime films

[edit]

Hi Andrzejbanas, would you mind if we changed Category:Hong Kong crime films to Category:Hong Kong crime drama films? Most action comedies are also "crime films" but I think "crime drama films" is the more precise title to go by. There already exists a Category: Japanese crime drama films for example. - DA1 (talk) 23:51, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'd leave it as crime films. Some of the crime films cross far more with action and thriller films than dramas (the early John Woo films for example). I'd say its best to keep it simple. Andrzejbanas (talk) 00:04, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That was kind of my issue with it. It seemed far too broad, but yet under-utilized (the list looks small). Action film and crime film are heavily (not entirely) synonymous the way it currently stands, so I thought it would be redundant. DA1 (talk) 00:08, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). VIVIsectVI

[edit]

Hi, Andrzejbanas. Thanks for your help on the VIVIsectVI page. It's always annoying when you mix-up or lose a citation. Anyway, on the treblezine citation (http://www.treblezine.com/10-essential-industrial-albums/), it says Skinny Puppy doubled down on their electro roots (Ministry was the one to move away). And the list is a '10 essential industrial albums' list, so that leaves us with electro and industrial. I agree it's not ideal, but I think it works while I look for a more direct reference. Production Countries?

[edit]

I understand that including too many countries who produced a film in the lead would be overwhelming but Monster Zero, Frankenstein, and Gargantuas only have two. It's not exactly overkill. The MOS:FILM standards was likely meant for film articles like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider or Dunkirk (2017 film) where they have 5 or more production countries, too bloated to include in the lead. Two seems sensible. For WP:FILMDIST, it states "If there are only two distributors in total (a domestic and foreign) then include both of them". So there is some level of precedent that including two things is not considered overkill. So why can't we extend this precedent for the production countries in the lead? Armegon (talk) 22:27, 12 June 2018 (UTC):[reply]

Hey @Armegon:, normally I wouldn't think two is overkill. But its the current standard with [[MOS:FILM]. For distributors, its to not make the infobox and overkill. I think currently what we are doing with multiple production companies in the lead is explaining it in the lead. Like, we can say somewhere that as both countries came in to fund it, its a Japanese and American co-production or whatever. Something like that should work. Great work on the article otherwise! I'm happy to see the Big G's older films look so shiny and cited! Andrzejbanas (talk) 11:31, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! But I have found other film articles that seem to also include the two production companies in the lead like Monster Zero did, such as Atlantic City (1980 film), Blade Runner, and Enter the Dragon. The leads for Blade Runner and Enter the Dragon begin with "...is an American-Hong Kong film" etc. I also believe it benefits the articles because Toho's sci-fi films are commonly perceived as Japanese productions. Only three of them were Japanese-American co-productions and it would be essential to illustrate that fact in the first sentence of the lead. Like I said, 2 is not exactly bloating or overkill and WP:FILMDIST allows 2 for its section if only two exists. I think that should also be extended to the lead if only two production companies produced the film and like I stated above, it seems other film articles follow that extension as well. Armegon (talk) 20:29, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't really matter how many other film articles do it. The current rules as I stated say we shouldn't. If you'd like the rule changed, I'd suggest bringing it up at WP:FILM, or MOS:FILM's talk page. Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:55, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:17, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Editor making unsourced changes

[edit]

Regarding 68.129.15.71 (talk · contribs). Their last block was for six months, and it expired on May 28. Since the time they returned to editing, it looks like the problem of bad sources is the same as always. I checked the posts at User talk:68.129.15.71#May 2018 and below. (There was also a thread at User_talk:EdJohnston/Archive 45#68.129.15.71 that you opened on 24 June). Do you think it's time for another block? EdJohnston (talk) 01:32, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Andze please give me a break?

[edit]

Andrze, I signed on to review the Jerry Warren pages I was working on and saw you reported me again to get me kicked off wikipedia. That angelfire thing was just a mistake, I corrected it when someone deleted it & I didn't put it back on the page afterwards. Since I tried to correct it, I couldn't understand why you would jump on the opportunity to have me blocked so quickly? But looking at it from your point of view, I guess you feel that I'm purposely trying to break the reliable source rules, like as if i'm just stupid or trying to be annoying. Since you're so familiar with the wiki rules yourself, you can't understand why they might be confusing to other people, I guess. Looking at the stuff I did this past week on the Jerry Warren pages, wouldn't you admit that I've improved a lot just in the past week or so? You didn't delete or correct one thing that I edited in the last 2 days! I thought I finally had convinced you that I want so badly to work on wikipedia with you guys, and that I was trying to follow the rules. I read all the material you sent me, it's just that sometimes I mess up and use a bad reference source by mistake. I thought in the last couple of days, you seemed to be liking the stuff I was editing. Now that i'm finally getting the hang of the reliable source thing, it looks like i'm going to wind up getting blocked again. I wish you'd think it over and just give me the benefit of the doubt, and realize that any errors I make are done in good faith. What do you gain by kicking me off? That angelfire thing was just an error, and like I said, I tried to correct it, but you still reported me for it. Don't you think overall I improved the Jerry Warren entries, in spite of making a few errors? I just hope you can ask EdJohnston to give me a chance to improve? i'm really trying to follow the rules. Thanks for your time.68.129.15.71 (talk) 18:30, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you read my argument on the page, it was that you were learning new things. However, you still casually ignore suggestions and don't try to learn new things. I don't see the attempt there and then you say its too hard to learn. I even asked you "can you show me what the problem is?" no response. I've asked you to ask others, again no attempt. I'm not convinced you are trying to learn to make it better. Andrzejbanas (talk) 19:22, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I just learned something about Rock Madison I never knew.....he didn't exist! Jerry Warren inserted his name into the credits of two of his films, just to make the cast look fuller. I found what I think is a reliable source for this info on a site called horrorpedia.com, but I didn't want to use it until I asked you if it was reliable. In the meantime, I put the external link on the Man Beast page to imdb which neatly explains the whole Rock Madison hoax that Jerry Warren perpetrated. If horrorpedia is ok, I will erase the imdb link and put the horrorpedia ref into the article. But I just don't want to get accused of vandalism if I do it. Heres the link....Rock Madison (a fictional actor’s name used for publicity purposes only) [1]68.129.15.71 (talk) 16:31, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think you need to learn what makes sites ok and what does not. The burden should be on you learning what it reliable. Ask yourself, how does this follow WP:RS? Does it? If you are truly unsure if it is or not. Ask MOS:FILM's talk page. Andrzejbanas (talk) 22:38, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Here's an actual ref I took off the Jerry Warren article: "Jerry Warren".

I'm looking at this template and I don't get what I'm supposed to do. I'm assuming I should put the info from the first link into the template below it? Could you show me what that first link would like if it was transposed?68.129.15.71 (talk) 18:17, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Try to look at this way. You would start with the "ref" command like you normally do. After that, try typing "<{{cite web|". This will mean you are calling a website. From there, credit the author. For example, say <ref>{{cite web|last=AuthorsLastNameHere|first=AuthorsFirstNameHere|. If there is no credited author, you don't have to write anything. Don't forget the URL, which is the website you found the source. <ref>{{cite web|last=AuthorsLastNameHere|first=AuthorsFirstNameHere||title=Jerry Warren|url=https://www.bfi.org.uk/films-tv-people/4ce2b9f7373cc|. You seem to have already figured out the title part. As for publisher, use the following. <ref>{{cite web|last=AuthorsLastNameHere|first=AuthorsFirstNameHere|url=https://www.bfi.org.uk/films-tv-people/4ce2b9f7373cc|title=Jerry Warren|publisher=[[British Film Institute]]. The publisher is basically what the notable publication or publisher of the site came from. In this case, BFI. If you can wikilink it to an article thats even better. Lastly, you should get a date the article was published if it has one and an accessdate, which is the day you sourced this article from. So if we use the BFI source, we get the following: Which gives us this source.[2] I hope this has helped @68.129.15.71:. Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:43, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

About the Pokemon The First Movie edit I did

[edit]

According to what a mod or admin (I don't know which one) said to me, only the animation studio can be placed in the infobox of an Anime film. Licensor companies cannot be added in, even if you provided a reliable source or not. What I mean by that is that I tried doing the same thing with the Studio Ghibli films (they have other Japanese companies listed in the opening credits) but the pages were all reverted back. Luigitehplumber (talk) 17:18, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well I'm not sure what the Mod or admin stated, but i'm going by the standards of infobox film. Plus, removing information and adding unsourced information goes against very basic wiki standards. I've started a conversation on the films talk page. Andrzejbanas (talk) 17:28, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see, but why remove the animation company, specifically on an animated film? Luigitehplumber (talk) 18:33, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Because they aren't production company's or studios. Its not the same thing. Andrzejbanas (talk) 19:12, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would be better to move this conversation to the talk page of the film. Andrzejbanas (talk) 19:13, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

For Anime films

[edit]

So basically, depending on who produced the film in a reliable source is basically fine in the infobox for Anime films, even if the animation studio isn't listed or not. (Sometimes though, some sources will make a small mistake.)

I'm saying that because you've found sources for the other Pokemon movies recently and none list OLM. Luigitehplumber (talk) 19:17, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. I definitely think mentioning the anime studio is of importance, but its just some studio who outsourced their animation. Like, when The Simpsons was outsourced to Korea, it doesn't become a production of their animation department (i.e: its' not a korean production). Andrzejbanas (talk) 23:47, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What about with companies like Studio Ghibli? There isn’t any point in adding other companies who assisted with the work because they’ll always get removed. Luigitehplumber (talk) 11:08, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just basically follow the sources that are listed as production companies. I can't address specific "what ifs" and "but this!" kind of deals, I can only stick to sources. Ghibli is an animation house, but its also the films production company. You just have to find the sources to back these up. Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:45, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've just done an edit on the Spirited Away page as a test for reliable sources with the other companies that are credited on the back cover of the home media version and after the Studio Ghibli logo. Luigitehplumber (talk) 15:53, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, also could you have a read of this please? https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?oldid=716661334#RfC:_Anime_films_and_production_companies Luigitehplumber (talk) 15:57, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looking over it seems interesting, but with no real conclusion. If I had seen it earlier I'd argue that a lot of that production company solution that was made was seemingly against any research put into it, it was just a "well, I guess we should include it" with no real reasoning to why that would be the correct action to take. So that conversation did not really seem to change policy. Unless I'm missing something here.Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:05, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The user who made that rule was Sjones23, who's a semi-professional editor. Could you talk to him about the Anime production company situation please? Here is his talk page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Sjones23 Luigitehplumber (talk) 16:43, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'll bring it up with him later! Good idea. Thanks! Andrzejbanas (talk) 17:25, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No problem.Luigitehplumber (talk) 19:32, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think if I find a reliable source I could add other production companies or should I just wait until it’s all decided for? Luigitehplumber (talk) 20:00, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I was just thinking that to do on some other articles, but after you started messaging me and dug out the other conversation, I think we should try to push for a consensus first on the talk page. I'm still leaning towards just getting the production companies in with a source and not using our own original research. At least we are backed up by things then. Andrzejbanas (talk) 23:00, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm gonna find some sources for the Studio Ghibli films now, as many of them don't have many companies listed in the opening credits after the Studio Ghibli logo, well unless SJones23 removes them. The thing is that the opening credits depend on the version used, as in the Japanese version of films made between My Neighbors the Yamadas and Ponyo, Disney is credited as "Buena Vista Home Entertainment" in English-translated versions and on the back covers (On my UK Ponyo Blu-Ray, they're credited as "Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment" for some reason considering they use the former name in the translated version of the credits.) Luigitehplumber (talk) 13:03, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'd still wait before the discussion I settled. As I mentioned, it's not as simple as listing the companies that appear in the credits. Andrzejbanas (talk) 17:52, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Even then, the companies listed after the Studio Ghibli logo appear in the Japanese trailers as well (mainly on the bottom at the end with the film's logo), and I can translate them easily from Japanese to English. Luigitehplumber (talk) 19:06, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

maybe. But as stated before we don't know what those represent and anything we do with them goes against WP:OR. Andrzejbanas (talk) 22:58, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:21, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Death Smiles

[edit]

I was wondering why you removed my changes to the production section. They are indeed ALL in the source material, as can be easily checked on books.google.com: https://books.google.at/books?id=j6szDwAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=%22Italian+Gothic+Horror+Films%22+curti&hl=de&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiJk4T8uoLdAhWNzaQKHVaIDEUQ6AEIJzAA#v It was originally cited in an incomplete, misleading, and even faulty way, and is now again, after you reverted to the previous version which I corrected. I had taken care of NOT adding anything that isn't stated in that same cited source. Please allow re-reverting to my corrected version. While I've already notified WT:FILM about the RfC, is it necessary to mention the discussion on the Infobox film talk page? Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 19:01, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if its required per-say, but it would definitely couldn't hurt. Andrzejbanas (talk) 19:05, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Control soundtrack cover.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free album cover being used in a decorative manner in Control (2007 film)#Soundtrack. Non-free album cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about albums, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, and the use of soundtrack album cover art in articles about films or TV programs is generally not allowed for this reason as explained in WP:FILMSCORE.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:51, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just double checking on this one, his name is actually in the lead for that article and it ties into the reference of manga artists drawing the character. Not really arguing just double checking.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 13:17, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Barefoot Gen

[edit]

Hello again. I've realized that the Barefoot Gen film article has only one source. As such, I'm thinking about adding reliable Japanese-language sources since it is a Japanese film after all (such as Madhouse's official website), in addition to the reference list I'm creating on the talk page. What are your thoughts about this matter? Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 15:53, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Works for me, I just want more sourced material for these types of information. I saw your addition and it looks strong. I should really take a peak and see if I can find any contemporary Western reviews of Barefoot Gen when it came out. I'll do it next time I'm at my local University @Sjones23:. Andrzejbanas (talk) 15:57, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. Maybe we can also ask Nihonjoe, an administrator who's an expert with Japanese films, to help out? Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 16:00, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Couldn't hurt. Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:12, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It just dawned on me that we never really got a satisfactory answer on what to do with the Studio/Production company in anime films. But I would point out that the Madhouse site seems to list film production companies on the site here rather than listing "Madhouse" as one. It seems that the format we have for sourcing production companies and studios seems to be consistent with how a company like Madhouse would list it. Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:15, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Just as a heads up, that particular RFC already expired and there's already a closure request on WP:ANRFC. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 17:30, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Just as a follow-up, it looks like the RFC has been officially closed. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 01:58, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Seems I missed the boat on this one @Sjones23:, I can't seem to find the conversation. was there a solution? Andrzejbanas (talk) 02:15, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The conversation was placed in the archive. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 02:30, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

First source "ambient vocal" is about the vocal part (WP:EXPLICITGENRES), and the second source call the song as "acoustic", is not a genre. 183.171.114.167 (talk) 18:24, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Golden Madonna

[edit]

Hi Andrzejbanas, Thank you for your communication on my talk page today. I have replaced the IMDB ref. in the article in question (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Madonna) with another source (Allmovie), and wonder if that is enough to allay your concerns? The other references include the BFI and National Portrait Gallery, surely reliable authorities/sources? Beryl reid fan (talk) 20:50, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Ghostbusters horror?

[edit]

Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II are both listed in the broader horror category, so if you're going to remove the category from the remake I'd suggest removing it from them too.

Frankly though I'm not sure about the change, it is difficult to think of things as being horror when they are PG rated, but I think Ghostbusters is scary enough in places to qualify, always thought the Scoleri Brothers were plenty scary. -- 37.110.218.43 (talk) 10:05, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@37.110.218.43:, it's not so much they I personally feel this way as that doesn't get much sway on wikipedia (personal opinion on genre and soforth), but its more or less that the genres aren't supported by the prose in the article. As for my own opinion, Ghostbusters (and the other films in the series) have their moments of scary/spookiness or whatever, but they aren't really in the same books as other contemporary horror films. Despite their supernatural element, the films are all predominantly comedies. Andrzejbanas (talk) 23:01, 15 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Merry Merry

Happy Christmas!
Hello Andrzejbanas,
Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that

Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"

My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. MarnetteD|Talk 07:48, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You'd have to get into specifics, as these all sort of represent the characters as a slasher, but the sources in the article don't really identify the film as a slasher film. Also, you said above it's a comedy slasher, which none of these sources state. So which is it? Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:11, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

it's a comedy slasher only for the sequels, not the original. so ? --77.207.75.83 (talk) 16:52, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

how could a character be a "slasher" without the movie being one? --77.207.75.83 (talk) 16:53, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You have to be specific with sources. See WP:STICKTOSOURCE. If you are paraphrasing what they say, you aren't quoting them directly. Specifically, you have found a few online sources. contemporary sources in the article predominantly focus on calling it a horror film, not a slasher film. I'd put energy into finding other ways to wikipedia instead of splicing genres in relatively insignificant ways. Andrzejbanas (talk) 17:21, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. ⚠

Thanks for uploading File:MachineGunMccain.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:38, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Ladyinthewatersoundtrack.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free album cover being used in a decorative manner in Lady in the Water#Soundtrack.

-- Marchjuly (talk) 04:35, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Evil Clutch changes

[edit]

Hi Andrzjbanas! First of all I have to ask you to escuse myself if I do any mistake in the form of this talk. I'm not a Wikipedia expert. I did the changes you found in the page according with the IMBD page, expecially about the spelling of Andreas Marfori's name. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0546561/ Besides I got some info here in Italy about the production of the movie and the budget is supposed to be 180 millions of lira. Also the subject of the movie was written together with Paola Mingoni. Anyway you cannot add the changes if you guess are unimportant. But I suggest you to look to iMDB and to a lot of other sources on the internet to create a full page dedicated to Andreas Marfori. Now the page is missing on Wikipedia but I guess it should be there. I'm an Italian movie scholar and I'm really impressed by Andreas Marfori's movies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.234.115.53 (talk) 04:23, 5 April 2019 (UTC) Hi! Leben

[edit]

The movie (1994)[12].

Torna al cinema con il cortometraggio The Unfortunate Life Of Georgina Spelvin Chained To A Radiator (2015)[20] protagonista Erika Kamese.

Battle of the Stars (1978)

[edit]

Can you please make a wiki article for Alfonso Brescia's space film Battle of the Stars (1978) Italian: Battaglie negli spazi stellari ?? It's the only one of Brescia's 4 space films that doesn't have a page of its own. Here's a link to where you can get the movie poster for it. see https://letterboxd.com/film/battle-of-the-stars/ 68.129.15.71 (talk) 22:57, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to expand them, but there is very little information on these films. I sort of struggle to make some of these obscure Italian genre films follow Wikipedia:Notability (films). We would need some proper reliable sources. Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:22, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reviews from US music magazines

[edit]

Hi Andrzejbanas, this is a bit of an odd question, but I've been looking over the articles for the 1970s Brian Eno albums that you got to GA, and noticed that you were able to get hold of contemporary reviews from the likes of Creem, Crawdaddy!, Circus, etc. I can see that some of these have come from Eric Tamm's biography, but on the Before and After Science article, for example, you've quoted the actual issue of the magazine the review appeared in – were you able to access archives of these magazines? I'm asking because while I know as a Brit where to get hold of UK music magazine archives, it's not so obvious to me where the equivalent US magazine archives can be found, except by paying a fortune to subscribe to the likes of Rock's Back Pages or NaPubCo. I assume some of the bigger public libraries in major cities in the US and Canada must have collections. Richard3120 (talk) 15:54, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thank you – I do have free access to the articles on RBP, and I know those sometimes include reviews. Thank you for the offer – I'll have a think and see if there are any reviews from the US I'd like to get hold of in the future... I'm working on improving the more significant post-punk/new wave/synthpop albums from 1977 to 1985 (you can see the list on my user page), so any reviews on those albums would be greatly appreciated, particularly Soul Mining, Songs to Remember and If I Should Fall from Grace with God which are the three closest at present to being nominated for GA in the future.
Likewise, if you've ever wondered about reviews from the UK's music press and newspapers, I am a member of the British Library and would be happy to look up anything you need... with the small proviso that I don't live in the UK any more, and visit once a year or every two years, so be prepared to wait. But I'll put those Eno albums on my list, because I think it would be good to get some contemporary reviews from his home country, and you've done a fantastic job on those records. The British Library has almost complete collections of NME, Melody Maker, Q, Mojo and Vox, as well as decent collections of Rolling Stone, Sounds, Let It Rock, Zigzag and Record Mirror, along with Uncut from 1997 to 2000, and the newspapers The Times, Daily Telegraph, The Guardian and The Independent, all of which had weekly music reviews, so there's a high probability of getting a broad spectrum of UK reviews for any record, even from the 1960s and 70s. The Incredible Shrinking Man

[edit]

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article The Incredible Shrinking Man has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

In the Filming section the article mentions Arnolds dropping condoms - out a window, on the floor - do you know? In the Reception section this sentence appears: "Brog of Variety wrote the "film isn't a thoroughly satisfactory chiller..." I tried to find Brog's complete name. It appears they might have signed their reviews simply as "Brog". Do you know? If so, the sentence should be rewritten to read: Variety's one-named reviewer Brog...

Best of luck with the GA process.

Noriaki Yuasa

[edit]

So in other words, despite that the information about Cosplay Warrior Cutie Knight is not only on his Japanese wiki page, but the Japanese Gamera wiki page, and IMDB (which I don't fully trust either but still), other Japanese blogs that even include pictures showing Gamera in them, going on Amazon Japan and searching for his name and Cosplay Warrior Cutie Knight giving you the DVDs as a result (I don't know if Amazon can be used for a source), and there being a video that actually shows Gamera showing up in the low budget short that I never linked because videos can't be used as a source, you were the only one who was able to see the truth and all the other examples were just vandalization? I dunno, it seems like you just don't want that information there if you won't even include them as a good faith edit at this point after all this evidence, I didn't even say Gamera showed up in them in that last one. Although, I know YouTube videos aren't allowed for a source even if the article is about the YouTube video in question, so I understand that having evidence but it not being in the "correct" place is an issue. Still I think the evidence should rather fall on you to disprove it rather then editing out something you know exists. There's no source for the Ultraman 80 or Denjin Zaborger credits on the same page but you didn't delete them, unless you were waiting for me to point that out so you could add the source. 96.74.105.129 (talk) 18:27, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Lighthouse Subject

[edit]

(Familyguysofunny (talk) 06:11, 13 August 2019 (UTC)) Here is a review stating the subgenre. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZqd3CJ2FrY As a matter of fact, I even saw the film at Cannes film festival in which other people I discussed the film with uninimously agreed that the subgenre was psychological. Just wondering why you felt the need to remove a subgenre to a film claiming it's unsourced despite the premise and other parts of the article heavily implying said subgenre, and also why you found it necessary to remove my other added source for The Lighthouse's production part about the screenwriting process of the film. Please respond, thank you. @Familyguysofunny:, It's not up to use to decide genres and we need third party sources who have seen the films based on a consensus. If they remove self reverting my own mistakes it might take me back below 50,000 - heehee. CC's choice for spine 1000 wasn't quite what I expected but it isn't out of character for them. I've seen the Japanese version of the original Godzilla but have never seen the KKvG ending where Godzilla wins so I am looking forward to it. I will be wating for a 50% off sale though. Cheers and have a nice weekend. MarnetteD|Talk 17:18, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Andrzejbanas: In "Reception" section, Billboard says "this track should find friends at A/C and mainstream pop stations", which means radio stations, not the song. Allmusic says "A gospel-inspired piece of pop song craftsmanship," "Truly a modern-day pop standard." I prefer Allmusic one to fit the genre. 2402:1980:249:A8C4:C197:847B:FE4A:AA00 (talk) 15:34, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

[edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Addition and correction to "List of Daiei films"

[edit]

Hi, Andrzejbanas!

I like your article "List of Daiei films". However, I've got two suggestions for its improvement.

  • Could you please change the title to "List of Daiei films"? This is the correct way to write it, as a capital "F" doesn't belong here at all.
  • Could you also please check Stuart Galbraith IV's book (which seems to be your main source of information) and see if he even mentions a Japanese horror film called in English in Japan Rainbow Man (1949)? This film was released a few months before The Transparent Man Appears (also 1949) and, along with it, is the earliest surviving tokusatsu film known to exist in Japan (all of the others before them have become victims of both time and World War II). Therefore, it's a major film and should be included in this list.

Thank you very much!Malcolmlucascollins (talk) 02:31, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Answer to message

[edit]

Yes, I think you're right. "List of Daiei Film productions" sounds much better than what it is now. I say go for it!

Also, check out IMDb for information on Rainbow Man, as they do have an article on it.Malcolmlucascollins (talk) 04:34, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Malcolmlucascollins: I'll see if we can get it moved, i'll push for it. As for Rainbow Man, I assume you are meaning IMDb? Having an IMDb page is not enough to warrant an article for Wikipedia. I would suggest reading Wikipedia:Notability (films) to see if I can dig up more information on the film. I'm pretty curious about it as I have a few books on Japanese films, especially ones from older fans who liked genre films but have not heard much about this film. Andrzejbanas (talk) 04:39, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks.

One more thing. Is it possible that you could also find the date of release for The Transparent Man Appears (1949) I think that it was sometime in September of that year, a few months after Rainbow Man, but I'm not sure. By the way, according to August Ragone's book Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monsters the English title used in Japan for this film is Enter the Invisible Man. Just thought you'd like to know.

By the way, the Japanese title for Rainbow Man is Nijiotoko. Hope that helps you in your search. By the way, this is Malcolmlucascollins again; I stupidly forgot to log in this time.2600:1700:7E31:5710:49A6:1B01:CEBC:B2A (talk) 04:55, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know if Ragone is using directly translated titles or official English titles @Malcolmlucascollins:. Andrzejbanas (talk) 05:07, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think that they're official English titles. The title that's in the list is a direct translation of the Japanese title, as far as I know. Maybe you could get in touch with him somehow and ask him. He does has a blog called The Good, the Bad and Godzilla (augustragone.blogspot.com), so maybe you could try there.

By the way, I just thought that I'd tell you that Enter the Invisible Man and The Invisible Man vs. the Human Fly (1957) (which is the English title used in Japan for that film (again, according to Ragone) were not the only invisible man films that Daiei made. There were two other films: one from 1960 called in Japanese Tomei tengu and in English in Japan either The Invisible Demon or The Invisible Braggart (I still don't know which) and one in 1970 called in Japanese Tomei kenshi and in English in Japan The Invisible Swordsman. I think that these two should also be included in the list; please see what information you can dig up on them, as well.Malcolmlucascollins (talk) 05:34, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Apology

[edit]

Sorry if I got on your nerves. I just wanted to tell you about some other films for the Daiei film list that I knew about and needed your help to put in.

As for working together to find such entries; thanks for the offer, but I wouldn't know where to begin on this one. I don't have readily available access to the sources that you have.Malcolmlucascollins (talk) 19:52, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Malcolmlucascollins: hey hey. I probably was a little crude with my message. I appreciate that you are reaching out to communicate with me. :) I just suggest keeping it all in one message! It also reminded me I should probably archive my talk page. Its getting a bit out of hand. I look forward to working with you on creating better articles. :) Andrzejbanas (talk) 13:19, 12 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Copy-edit

[edit]

Hi! I've begun copy-editing your article, Planet Rock (song). It is in general a well-written article, but I wanted to let you know that if you plan on taking it to GA, you're going to want to add a bunch of citations in the lede. I'm not that interested in finding all the citations because that kind of music isn't my jam, but I just wanted to let you know that I think it could easily become a GA after I'm done copy-editing and you add a couple citations in the lede. Thank you, I will be finished with it shortly I hope. BTW, do you want me to set up archiving on your talk page? It's getting a bit large IMO. Your choice of course, just wanted to let you know I'd be happy to do it or show you how. :) Also, please either ping me if you reply here or feel free to reply on my talk page.
