Vey pleased indeed and kudos for seeing it through. What a page it turned into; hope you are proud. It's certainly of your usual standard. Ceoil (talk) 22:44, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks as always Ceoil—your support and insight is unmatched on WP. I'm happy particularly that Josquin establishes a good model for early music, so hopefully I can follow with Du Fay and Machaut in the future. Aza24 (talk) 23:19, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- Bring it on my friend - a pleasing by-product, or the main reason for editing is...exposure to things hadn't heard before.[1]. Ceoil (talk) 23:41, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
Autopatrolled granted
Hi Aza24, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.
Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.
Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Isabelle Belato 🏳🌈 01:14, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Isabelle Belato, thank you, and a late congratulations on your well deserved adminship. Best – Aza24 (talk) 03:44, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
Missing cite in Christopher Gibbons
The article cites "Harper 1999" but no such source is listed in the bibliography. Can you please add? Also, suggest installing a script to highlight such errors in the future. All you need to do is copy and paste importScript('User:Svick/HarvErrors.js'); // Backlink: [[User:Svick/HarvErrors.js]]
to your common.js page. Thanks, Renata•3 02:37, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, now fixed. Aza24 (talk) 04:04, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
I have made some small additions to the article. [2] Do not expect much. The reasons are A) that Buddhism and Taoism are new to me and it was really hard to comprehend their core values and connection to humanism. B)I felt it is somehow Undue to expand further since contemporary humanism is a manifestation of "european-made" humanism (and that is a strong criticism of contemporary humanism). Can you have a look though? I am not sure if I grasp things correctly. Also, if you want to add something yourself, you are more than welcomed. I can provide you with sources I already used in the article. Cheers! Cinadon36 18:01, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- Cinadon36, both practices are deceivingly complex and include apparent (and sometimes purposeful) contradictions which often hide their realities (so your difficulties in comprehension are understandable).
- On Taoism, perhaps Chapter 7 of this publication can assist you in understanding the connection better. As far as thinkers in Buddhism, you might check Taixu's writings, which are the main humanistic Buddhism approach I'm aware of. I would love to add something myself but it would have to be in December as I am too busy these next few weeks. I will take a look at what you've added, though. Aza24 (talk) 04:36, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- That chapter looks really interesting and I have already made a request on Resource Exchange [3], but I an not sure whether Taixu's writings are RS. Maybe they are primary. I prefer academic sources, they are undisputable. There is some negative feedback already, at the article that there is too much reliance on authors that are humanists. October music
Today is Erntedank in Germany, thanksgiving, and we celebrated our village's 650th anniversary, and had the dress rehearsal for Verdi's Requiem with an interesting band of marimba, piano, horn, bass, timpani and drum, - concert tomorrow, our national holiday. Would you be kind enough to do yet another source review? At one point, you said "Heh, rather routine now, isn't it?" ... and I hope it will be ... there's a lot of overlap with the sources from your (many!) previous source reviews (see my user page for links to all of them). Giants has listed this one in the "source review needed" box, but I'm not holding my breath that that will help ... getting source reviews for science-y lists at FLC hasn't gotten any easier. (But I'm hoping if you do one, then it will be easier for me to pick up future source reviews for lists in this series, since the sources will usually be nearly identical.) - Dank (push to talk) 20:52, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- I just realized I need to use the "loc=" parameter on some of my sfn's, and also just found out that www.plantsoftheworldonline.org/terms-and-conditions is a dead link now. I'll fix both problems in the morning. - Dank (push to talk) 04:44, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, should be good to go now. POWO engages in a little bit of handwaving regarding the databases it draws on, but I think I can justify that I've followed their instructions (to cite them rather than the originals) while still acknowledging where their data originally came from. - Dank (push to talk) 11:38, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Whoa, Giants just jumped in and did the source review ... he found no problems. But if you're feeling a sense of FOMO, there will be ample future opportunites for source reviews, just keep an eye on FLC :) - Dank (push to talk) 22:30, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Ha! I will keep an eye. Sorry for missing all of this—my activity has been spotty lately. Aza24 (talk) 05:29, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

Larsson!
Hi, Aza24! I see you've discovered my edits on Lars-Erik Larsson. Have you heard God in Disguise? It's lovely. (May I recommend to you the most recent recording, by Gustaf Sjökvist ? ... it's easily the best one, in my opinion.) Thanks for making the Larsson navbox; how funny that I had made one (similar to those I made for Wirén, Madetoja, and Sallinen) but hadn't yet hit publish! Haha. :) Do you have a preferred template for these? That is, are the yellow-bar ones I have been making in need of an update? Also, while on Larsson, you must hear that Symphony No. 3 of his! Oh, and I must have this picture... do you think it can be uploaded? I'll burn down all of Wikipedia if the answer is no! Ha! Warmly, ~ Silence of Järvenpää 14:17, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Silence of Järvenpää — I usually use the template on my user page (under the templates header at the bottom). I left a response on your user page, by the way, if you didn't see it.
- I've not heard Larsson's music, but will definitely add add a reminder to give him a listen! I'm not sure how we can verify that photo's date, though theoretically it should be in public domain since IMDB is mostly user-generated. Larsson's main article currently has a picture of him that says "Larsson in 1908", meaning he was one year old!—which you might want to change :) Aza24 (talk) 20:35, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, Aza! Thanks! Do let me know what you think of those two pieces if and when you get around to them. Each is a half-hour in length. I have also switched the Dag Wirén navbox to your preferred template; and soon I'll do the same for Madetoja, Klami, Sallinen, and Sibelius... I like consistency, if you haven't noticed! Aside: Is it okay for me to add red-links to navboxes? Or is this considered 'bad practice'? Just curious for your informed thoughts. :)
- On the Larsson image from IMDB... so I can't use it? Has my river of tears yet reached your feet?! Haha. To lose not only the best (most flattering) photo of the composer, but also his autograph (which I wanted to have SVG'd) stings. Alas, is there not anything to be done? This is what's so nice about research on Finland: finna.fi not only has Finnish culture all in one place, but also helpfully lets one know the copyright status of its images. And my editing requires visuals for inspiration. Do you know if Sweden has anything similar?
- Finally, and again unlike Finland, old Swedish newspapers are behind a paywall at the Swedish National Library, e.g., Dagens stunder. Do you know any workarounds for Wikipedia? Or an editor here who has access? ~ Silence of Järvenpää 19:02, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- I've always liked your navbox approach, it encourages thoroughness and content creation. It is definitely atypical, and I have seen some users hesitant to include red links, but I don't think that perspective is common enough to characterize it as bad practice.
- I'm honestly not sure what to do about the Larsson image—it's strange to me that I couldn't find it elsewhere online. You may have to do without it :(
- Not sure about the Dagens stunder, but definitely try the Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request if you have some specific articles you need. The resource request is one of the most impressively functioning pages on WP; every request I've ever filed has been resolved. Aza24 (talk) 23:00, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, Aza! Hope you're enjoying your mini-WP break (and hopefully it's not due to IRL becoming more demanding/stressful). Just wanted to say hello and to congratulate you: I just noticed the newest FA star on your page, and the symmetry is excellent! I have been on a Larsson Wikibender (gosh I hope I coined that term!) and suddenly am thinking Atterberg as a Wikichaser! :) ~ Silence of Järvenpää 16:16, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Silence of Järvenpää, nice to hear from you. It's a combination of RL things and Josquin burnout! Your attention to Larsson and Atterberg seems particularly valuable, in that I feel their articles would most likely remain underdeveloped for many years without it! I have been listening to Saint-Saëns's 2nd piano concerto lately, which I highly recommend. Aza24 (talk) 19:12, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, it's a lovely piano concerto, indeed! I don't understand why Saint-Saëns isn't better known, but my theory is that the name is hard to pronounce, unlike Bach or Beethoven or Mozart. Hey... I noticed deep on your to-do list Florence Price. I wanted to say that, if you ever get to this in 2023 or 2024 or 2025 (assuming I'm still around), I want in as a collaborator. I think, in addition to Price, it would be ideal to attend to William Grant Still, too. I in particular would like to make better pages for the symphonies and major tone poems... but help on the bios, too. But later, for sure... as right now, as you know, I'm mired in Swedish composers Larsson, Wirén, and soon, Atterberg. Warmly, ~ Silence of Järvenpää 17:09, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- Would be happy to work with you on Price and Still, both worthy candidates of having more article attention. Price is definitely undergoing something of a revival across the US, I've heard of so many more performances, particularly of her symphony. Strangely enough, I've actually heard the Price piano concerto three times (by different performers) in the past year—really fun piece, but I prefer her piano sonata. Aza24 (talk) 05:48, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

Euclid to GA?
Personally, I think that the article is ripe for WP:GAN. Do you feel comfortable nominate the article for GA? CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 03:07, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- The Elements section definitely needs to be 2–3 times its current size, and each of the "Other works" probably needs 1–2 more sentences. Will take a look in a week or so. Aza24 (talk) 06:04, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
Gutenberg
Hey, Aza! I sometimes lurk through sandboxes looking for a way to improve my writing, and I saw that you marked this book as "don't have access": "Füssel, Stephan. Gutenberg and the Impact of Printing". You can find it here [4]. Artem.G (talk) 17:59, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you!!—this is immensely helpful. I quickly realized last year that I was not going to be able to rewrite the article without Füssel and Kapr, and now that I have the former from you and the latter has been recently uploaded to archive.org, I should be able to make real progress in the coming weeks. List of accolades received by CODA (2021 film) source review
Hi there,
I was wondering if you could do a source review for List of accolades received by CODA (2021 film) regarding its featured list promotion.
- Definitely. Looking shortly Aza24 (talk) 18:55, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
Music critic bio
Hello, Aza - I'm the person who waded in to make corrections to my own bio, on which you clearly have put in so much careful work; most of all I would just like to thank you. I apologize if I violated protocol in trying to fix the few factual errors; I thought I was doing it right; and now, I hope I'm doing it right by weighing in here. I'm not trying to rewrite my own bio to make it the way I want it; I just wanted to eradicate factual errors. Is the best thing to post my changes here, with citations/reasons, and let you review them, or is there a better way to do it? 73.250.37.15 (talk) 21:54, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi 73.250.37.15, I can only assume in good faith that you are indeed Ms. Midgette, as the word of an anonymous IP alone does not really confirm this. As an admirer of your/Ms. Midgette's music criticism, I was happy to write the article. I am certainly willing to work with you; the main issue is a lack of citations. You can see at Talk:Anne Midgette#Recent IP Edits that I started a discussion there concerning this matter yesterday. That would be the best place to work on this, since you have an obvious conflict of interest. Thank you for your patience on this matter. Something very similar happened between Mr. Eichler and his article a few months ago, and we worked out the issues nicely. Best – Aza24 (talk) 00:52, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link - I blush at how ignorant I was of how Wikipedia worked, especially given how much I make use of this site, and I appreciate your guidance. I've answered you on the Talk page in the proper place. I did once edit my own Wikipedia page: when I went on maternity leave without warning in 2011, someone edited my Wikipedia page to say that I'd been phased out at the Washington Post as a result of something I'd written in a review about Placido Domingo. I corrected it myself in February, 2012, after someone alerted me to the rather comical allegation. I never realized I'd gone against Wikipedia's protocols, but I'm coming clean now. 73.250.37.15 (talk) 06:33, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- Corrections like the ones you describe are not as a big of a deal, so I would not worry. This is particularly because of the major policy, WP:BLP, which encourages the immediate removal of any potentially libelous (and uncited) material, which the Placido Domingo anecdote on your page would fall under. Regardless, I appreciate your transparency. Best – Aza24 (talk) 18:48, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, I wasn't really worried - I just thought it was an amusing anecdote. Until these exchanges with you I was utterly unaware of the Talk pages and the History pages and their functions (which probably denotes a woeful lack of curiosity on my part); I subsequently entertained myself by going back and finding the exact record of what had been written, and was happy to see that my memory had not embellished it. Thanks again! Best, Anne Classicalbeat (talk) 16:53, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello dearheart, I am wondering if you are terrifically busy right now, or if you are available to help bail me out on this article. I have nominated it for GA and now I am afraid that when someone picks it up, they will dun it for its mixed reference styles. That is the part of WP I am worst at, so I was wondering if you could help in converting any of them to Harvard style. It's perfectly okay if you are not interested or able, so don't worry about saying no, but I had to ask! Hope you are well. We are getting ready for the holidays here. Jenhawk777 (talk) 18:22, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Jenhawk777, you come at the perfect time!—from today onwards my schedule should clear up significantly for until January (and I'll probably remove the banner at the top of this page later this evening). I would be happy to clean up the citations there, and agree that it is currently a minor obstacle for GAN. I'll try and tackle this over the the next two days. In the meantime, maybe you could trim the further reading section a little? I see many sources listed there that are hardly directly related to the topic at hand, Torture (2018) and Debating Roman Demography, for instance.
- Slowly getting ready for the holidays here as well, but will probably pick up the pace after Thanksgiving. I have to play violin in ~20° weather later, which should be... fun... Aza24 (talk) 19:01, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- Yikes! Twenty degrees? All I can say is at least you were smart enough not to learn brass! Could be a repeat of Flick in the "Christmas story"! LOL! That would not actually be funny... I love that you are so willing to help others. I will weed out Further Reading as you wish. They are mostly books I looked at and didn't use, and I have no objection to disposing of them entirely. Thank you up front! Jenhawk777 (talk) 19:23, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Jenhawk777 Indeed I've never learned brass, though I did play bassoon for two months :) Let the record state that piano is by-far my primary instrument though.
- When I first became active on WP around two years ago I was astonished at the amount of support I received from other editors, and have tried to continue this remarkable tradition of collaboration ever since. You might be surprised how much new editors can do with encouragement and occasional council. Just this year, I advised a new editor (old account, but only recently regularly-active) who brought the Music of Mesopotamia from an essentially information-less state to a hugely comprehensive and cohesive overview. Just amazing to see. Aza24 (talk) 20:17, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- I love that story - so, so much better than my beginnings here. I was harassed by an editor that was eventually permanently banned, but before that he ran me off WP for a year and a half. I documented things he said, but he had so much power and knowledge of how to work the WP system, and I was such an ignorant novice that I didn't think I stood a chance standing up to him and just left. I didn't return till he was gone. Since then I have run into several truly wonderful people, like you, who have restored my faith in how great WP can be. Thank you for sharing that with me. It put a smile on my face. My family is musical too. Between us we have piano, flute, trombone, coronet, clarinet and vocal music, and my daughter is a music teacher. Fun huh? Jenhawk777 (talk) 07:51, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry you had to go through that, I can recall of similar experiences, though luckily none at the beginning of my editing. When talking to "veteran editors", it's easy to forget here that we're all on the same plane of authority (when it comes to content matters, that is).
- Sounds like we could all make an orchestra... :) Aza24 (talk) 10:27, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Jenhawk777, a few quick questions about the sources. I'm getting the sense that you're not linking publishers/journals but are linking authors, correct? (Fine by me, just checking that that is the intended scheme). Also, have you given any thought to separating book and journal sources? That's a pretty common bibliography method on WP nowdays, and I'd be happy to separate them myself. Either way is fine though. Best – Aza24 (talk) 01:50, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- A beautiful orchestra in tune with each other.
- I don't generally link anything in references, but others often come along and provide an author link for me. I'm grateful. You do whatever you feel like doing however you feel like doing it. I thought everything had to be in alphabetical order, and I am perfectly happy with that. I hate the idea of creating more work for you if it isn't necessary - but if you think it should be done, then I think it should be done. Who invented separating books and journals anyway?! I swear, there are people out there who love all of this ordering down to the tiniest detail way too much! :-) Thank you for your help with this. It makes me want to pull out my hair... Not a good look... Jenhawk777 (talk) 04:19, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

Classica music MOS
Hi, Aza! It's nice to have you have you back. Welcome! I wanted your thoughts on something. Having recently written new articles on several violin concertos (Violin Concerto (Larsson), Violin Concerto (Wirén), and Violin Concerto (Klami)), I ended up poking around the corresponding category; I noticed quickly that the every article is written differently in terms of its formatting, i.e., there is no standardization, despite the classical music MOS. In particular, I found great variation with the titles in the lede section, the formatting of the movements (i.e., when to italicize, linking to tempo marking, Arabic vs. Roman numerals, etc.). Do you think it's worth trying to standardize? Is there a Wikignome you know who would be up to the task? I am sure the piano concertos category and the symphonies category is just as bad, although I haven't inspected. When I write articles, I certainly have a particular style that I stick to and it is, to my knowledge, consistent with MOS (although perhaps I am mistaken). Anyway, your thoughts would be welcome! PS: Of late, you may have noticed, my efforts have been at start-class to C-class content creation/development, rather than working at GA's or FA's... I guess I'm feeling like coverage and moderate improvement (of existing articles) is more important than chasing shiny objects. (I remember you expressing something similar on this page to another user, but now I cannot seem to find the entry.) ~ Silence of Järvenpää 21:31, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Silence of Järvenpää, aside from Wikipedia:Naming conventions (music)#Compositions (classical music) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Music#Classical music titles, I don't believe there are standardized MOS things for any CM things on Wikipedia, and those two links mainly concern just titles. I don't think the more comprehensive Wikipedia:WikiProject Classical music/Guidelines is "official" enough to warrant mass-gnomish changes, though that would certainly be nice. Forming a consensus on the project page would be the only way to go about that, I think. Most articles of the categories you refer are probably little changed—formatting wise—from whatever the original creator preferred.
- I like the route you're going! Currently I'm doing similar things in aiming aiming for B/C with smaller topics and only for FA/GA with larger ones. Aza24 (talk) 00:09, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

Lissitzky help at FARC
Hi Aza! We didn't met here before, but I saw your impressive work on History of Music and Josquin. I never wrote FA-class article before, and the arts are not my usual theme (one of my GAs is indeed an arts biography, but it was much easier to write about Franzisca Baruch given small number of sources available), but some time ago I've decided to save El Lissitzky at FARC. I thought it would be easier, but ended up with complete article overhaul, built on a ton of new sources not used before. I know that's a lot to ask for, but you're the only experienced editor I know who's good both in FAs and in arts, and if you are interested in Lissitzky or in early Russian avant-garde art I would be grateful if you can take a look! It's not fully done (I think it's ~60-70% now), I still need to rewrite several (large) sections, but here it is: draft. Please let me know what do you think. Warmly, Artem.G (talk) 15:35, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- Interesting. I am not so familiar with Lissitzky specifically, though I know his teacher Malevich very well. I am happy to help, though. The most underused source for artist articles on Wikipedia is definitely Grove Art (Lissitzky's article here), which is so often forgotten, and not for any good reason. I'm guessing at some point you're going to want to use Margolin more and perhaps this article.
- Your draft seems already chalk full of improvements. I'm afraid you're not going to be able to get away with that many large quotes at FAR. Actually, FAR has become interesting lately, the standards have gone up a quite a bit as editors there seems to be now considering good article quality as a means to improve longevity (so the article doesn't end up back there). Regardless, I do not personally mind long quotes (academics quote things with hardly any limit; I recall a Chomsky book that quoted pages upon pages of Descartes, and not even translated!) but Wikipedians almost never feel the same way. You might be able to get away with a lengthy quote or possibly two in the Legacy section.
- A big issue with WP artist biographies is the balance between biography and art. The article currently attempts to combine both, which is a difficult approach, though doable, see William Etty and (not an artist but still applicable) Ezra Pound. You may find it easier to set it up like van Gogh's article, but perhaps the information is too embedded in the article's current state to be worth the reconfiguration. Aza24 (talk) 04:55, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for your advice! I know that lengthy quotes are my problem, though I think that it's using a proper quote is better than its poor paraphrase (though I agree, that some quotes can be paraphrased, I just doubt that all the quotes should be removed). And some quotes are by Lissitzky himself, I don't want to paraphrase him. About the artist and the art - I do understand what do you mean, but to write the artist's bio without discussing his art and the evolution of his views seems just unnatural. You can say, f.e. that his early period was devoted to children's books, without any discussion and description of that work, but IMO it would be a bad approach. And I will check all the articles you mentioned, thanks! Artem.G (talk) 07:21, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- About Grove - I don't have access and never used it before, and though I doubt it will be very useful (I never saw it cited in any article I read) I welcome any additions! Artem.G (talk) 07:32, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- About the sources - I'm still reading three large books that will certainly help, one is Nisbet's phd thesis on Proun years (acquired through resource exchange), another one is Situating El Lissitzky (nice collection of essays), and the newest Eva Forgacs' book on Malevich, from 2022. And I have a bunch of articles about math and art and Lissitzky's views on it. If you are interested I'll be happy to share all the articles I've collected. Artem.G (talk) 07:32, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- Keeping the artist's own quotes, is of course fine, but I should caution you again that FAR folks will almost certainly be against that many quotes.
- thanks for the caution, that's one of the reasons I was looking for help and advice :) I am not very good in copyediting, especially when it concern scholar commentaries on art - I'm afraid I can parapharase too closely and on the border of copyvio, that's why I usually quote people directly. Would love to see what do you think can be cut / paraphrased / reworked. Artem.G (talk) 15:12, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
- Grove is the kind of thing that provides much use as an excellent model; i.e. using the biblio, seeing what generalizations it arrives at and looking to see how one can structure certain events in the subject's life. You should have access to it via the Wikipedia library ([5] – under Oxford Art Online).
Unfortunately the article is unavailable for me. If it's not a big trouble, can you please send me a pdf? Artem.G (talk) 15:12, 8 October 2022 (UTC)- I've got it (didn't work on mobile somehow). You're right, Grove's article looks like a good intro, thanks for that! Artem.G (talk) 09:13, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- Would be happy to see the articles—are they listed in the draft already? Aza24 (talk) 05:36, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
- I think that ~90% is already in Sources in my draft. I've sent you a link to my gdrive folder where I collect all the materials used for my writing. (Via wikimail) Artem.G (talk) 15:12, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you! I will try to look further this weekend. Aza24 (talk) 22:02, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi Aza! Thanks for your first comments on the draft, I tried to address them. I have a lot of real life work this week, though I'll try to work on the draft too. (I have a lot of sources to read, both Nisbet's and Birnholz thesises are 500+ pages!)
Meanwhile, I have one more question for you, that's one on copyright. I'm not the biggest fan of modern copyright laws, but almost always I can at least understand them. Not this time. Lissitzky died in 1941, and it's 70+ years. Many of his works are done and published before 1927, so should also be PD. But how this can happen? MOMA says that this photo [6] is "© 2022 Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York / VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn", and here they say [7] "© 2015 Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York / VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn". But this work is from 1926: it's before 1927 and more than 70 years passed after the author's death! And the same question about all other MOMA images - Prouns are definetily done (published and exhibited too) before 1927, though they somehow copyrighted all of them. Can we upload such files to commons? How is it even possible to copyright the work done in 1926 to 2022? Artem.G (talk) 06:58, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Artem.G afaik the Copyright Act of 1976 (really of 1978, when it became enforced) had some exceptional consequences for works published before the law, but not for those so old that they are clearly public domain, I think the general rule is before the 1920s. Thus if Lissitzky published the work in the US between the 1920s and 1978, I believe it's a longer period, like 100 years or so after the publication, not death (if he had published before the 1920s in the US then it would just be the normal 70 year rule after his death). I think there are more specific numbers involved here with the 1920s and 100-year marks I refer to, but this is as much as I can recall! Aza24 (talk) 21:30, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
Hey, Aza, nice to see you are back! I think that my draft looks much better now - though I still need to finish Nisbet's and Birnholz's theses - it started to look as a thing. I would be very grateful if you'll have a look - do you think it can be moved to the article? I would also appreciate if you'll copyedit it a bit, as I'm not an English native speaker I write sometimes with abominable mistakes; it's also a reason why I use so many quotes - I'm aware of "close paraphrasing" and try to avoid it by quoting real experts in their own words. The hardest sections are legacy and scholarly assessment - though being a famous avantgardist, Lissitzky is rarely credited for his work at the level of his contemporaries (Chagall, Malevich, Kandinsky (and, by the way, wiki articles on them are not good at all, to say nothing)), and usually being credited as author of just a few works (The Constructor, Beat the Whites! poster, sometimes Prouns, sometimes Unovis, sometimes his Jewish works). I think the article will be the best Lissitzky overview available online (after some copyedit and polishing, incorporating the quotes, etc, etc), especially given that most books are out-of-print, PhD theses are hard to find, grove and many articles are paywalled.
- As this is the biggest project I've ever done here, I hope you'll find it at least readable. (fingers crossed :)) Artem.G (talk) 19:39, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- Glad to hear about all of this. Close-paraphrasing will forever be a tricky matter, but I can assure you that being aware of the possibility already places you in better lane than many of those who find trouble with it.
- Indeed most Western visual artists post-Renaissance have poor articles. I was just looking at Pablo Picasso's earlier today and realized how deceptively bad it is—I don't know why I had assumed otherwise in the begin with. I'll give it a read in the next few days and do some copy editing. Best – Aza24 (talk) 22:21, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot, will try to answer to any comments as fast as I can.
- The quality of the articles was a surprise for me - though Lissitzky was a FA, sources used there where not the best, but at least it was readable. Malevich-Chagall-Kandinsky are in awful state, given that they are much more famous to ordinary audience and that a lot of (good) books about them exist. Articles about Rodchenko, Tatlin, Klutsis and other early avantgardists are even worse, some are mere stubs. But if even Picasso is bad, it's not surprising that more obscure figures got little attention. Artem.G (talk) 08:22, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
Citing Houhanshu commentary
How do I cite the Houhanshu commentary? I asked on the WikiProject China talk but no one answered my question. So, I guess I'm going to ask you. Mucube (talk) 22:42, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- Mucube, I assume you’re referring to Li Xian’s commentary? I am not familiar with that text; if it is supplemental, you could probably just cite the HHS like normal and include “Li Xian on the HHS [volume number] etc.”. Regardless, it would be much better to cite something by Bielenstein or Crespigny for Eastern Han maters than the HHS or it commentary. Aza24 (talk) 23:51, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- I'm using the commentary that I found on Chinese Wikisource. (example)
- And yes, I know that only citing the Houhanshu is bad. I'm only citing it in addition to a modern source. Mucube (talk) 00:28, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
- Is the commentary in the notes section of what you've linked? I'm not sure who that is written by, though I assume Li Xian or Liu Zhao . I would figure out who the author is and simply clarify that it is their commentary in the reference. I doubt that there is a pre-established system for citing specific commentary lines for the HHS. Aza24 (talk) 08:40, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
- The header on Chinese Wikisource lists both Li Xian and Liu Zhao as commentators. Mucube (talk) 00:22, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

Aza, if you've got time for a request, could I get a source review for this at FLC? It already has three full (ish) supports. About half the sources are ones you've already covered in previous source reviews for me. (The bizarre name is sort of explained at WP:Featured list candidates/List of lilioid family names with etymologies/archive1.) - Dank (push to talk) 05:07, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
- Certainly, I'll get to it soon. Aza24 (talk) 05:11, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Well, PresN just promoted that one! So my request is for List of lilioid family names with etymologies now ... the downside is that it doesn't have any supports yet (but I expect that will change soon), the upside is that now two lists have passed with nearly identical sourcing, so hopefully most of the work has effectively been done. Anyway ... no rush on this, and thanks for your help as always. - Dank (push to talk) 18:29, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Sorry for the trouble. I thought I was helping at Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors and can clearly see that I wasn't. I will do my best to not repeat my mistake and make it so that this will not occur again. --Super Goku V (talk) 16:07, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Super Goku V, sorry if my response was harsh, I should have assumed good faith. It was disappointing that a citation needed tag was added in the first place (not by yourself), when a source is available online in mere seconds. I was rather taken off guard to see you add a source, only to replace that maintenance tag with another! In the future, maybe just take a few more seconds to get a better source, so you don't need the extra tag in the first place. Happy holidays to you and regardless, your contributions are most welcome here. Aza24 (talk) 00:14, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
- No problem, it is okay. I do want to clear up that I did check for sources and that was the best one I could find. I thought we couldn't use Britannica as a reliable source per its rating on the Perennial sources list, so I went with the museum one and was hopeful that maybe someone would find a better offline source instead. Regardless, it seems things worked out. Still sorry for the trouble and I hope that you have a Happy New Year. --Super Goku V (talk) 01:45, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

Mahler revert
Re this reversion of my edit. The quote well fitted the heading re the period of neglect of Mahler's music. It is a very strong polemic indeed - "paucity of ideas" - that is spectacularly at odds with more recent appraisals of Mahler's music. This is worth documenting in my opinion. The book is very rare and so this will not be visible otherwise. Yes, there are other quotes possible, some are given in the previous article sentences, but this one more example is very noteworthy. Please consider undoing your revert. Walton22 (talk) 04:46, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- No response on Talk Page in 24 hours; with respect have undone the reversion with explanation summarising the above. Walton22 (talk) 04:09, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Walton22, sorry I wasn't able to respond in time, my schedule hadn't allowed much time for WP until rather recently. I'm glad things were sorted out on the talk page, and have no doubt that your edit(s) were with good intentions. Aza24 (talk) 20:18, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
- Dear Aza24, thanks for replying here. Yes, we sorted it out on the talk page, and I had the pleasure of meeting Tim riley and collaborating with him on some edits to another composer's page. Anyway, you were right to revert!

Schubert and the Unsinnsgesellschaft
Hi Aza24, you deleted a well sourced and longly discussed information. Please read the RFC, and if you have nothing substantive to add, please undo your deletion. Smearus was the only one who raised discussable concerns. But in the end we found out that there are significantly more reliable sources in favour. Talk:Franz Schubert#Unsinnsgesellschaft Chip-chip-2020 (talk) 06:51, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Chip-chip-2020, there is no RFC; an {{rfc}} template was never used, outside input was never sought and the discussion was never closed. What you linked to is an informal discussion in which two users supported the inclusion and two opposed it. At the end, what seems to be something like a consensus formed, but you've still inserted an image where no one else agreed an image was warranted.
- If you can reinsert the information without the image and perhaps actually format the sources properly, I would not object to the information's inclusion. Aza24 (talk) 20:30, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
Hey Aza!
Hi, Aza! Just wanted to say hello and to see how you've been. Missing our chats... ~ Silence of Järvenpää 16:56, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
- Silence of Järvenpää! Nice to hear from you, been rather busy IRL but hopefully that is clearing up for the next few weeks at least. I am stuck on too many project as usual :) Hopefully I can push User:Aza24/List of Chinese monarchs over the edge this week... though I've been saying that since last fall... How are things with yourself? Aza24 (talk) 20:21, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, Aza! Yes, I figured that, once back, you'd return to your labor of love. I have been doing okay ... switching jobs soon, which is why I, too, was away from WP for awhile. Came back recently and accidentally started a fire at Talk:Carl Nielsen (I promise it was an accident!) ... been listening to him a lot of late, and I started a list on his symphonies at User:Silence of Järvenpää/Discography of Nielsen symphony cycles (will use the FL of Discography of Sibelius symphony cycles as a model). I've also been poking around again at User:Silence of Järvenpää/Sibelius loc, dusting it off. While our collab didn't quite work out (totally understand), once I finish it up (or even as I edit it moving forward), your feedback would be welcome! ~ Silence of Järvenpää 22:24, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
- Nice to see Nielsen getting more attention, though his FA must be better than Sibelius's article already. You may have started a small fire, but I assure you the one at Talk:Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart#Mozart Infobox RFC is much worse! Though it is rather depressing to see the article get so much attention for a conversation like that, rather than a conversation on how the extremely poor music or legacy sections could be expanded. Alas, I still avoid giving an opinion in either conversation on this matter.
- I feel terribly guilty that I couldn't hold up my end of the plan for the LOC. I'm not really sure why; I assumed that text entering would be fine with me, but I think the Chinese monarchs list must have burned that interest of mine out for the time being. Well, we still have a tentative Florence Price collaboration to get to at some point, if I remember correctly. I must have heard more of her music in the past year than my entire lifetime. Aza24 (talk) 01:30, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Silence of Järvenpää aha! Now published at List of Chinese monarchs... phew – Aza24 (talk) 19:31, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

wow, I'm really impressed with what you did with List of Chinese monarchs! Great list, and nice to see you here again :) Artem.G (talk) 13:28, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks so much Artem.G. There's still a little more tweaking to do before FLC, but I'm really happy with it and glad to have it mostly finished now (began it in December 2021...). – Aza24 (talk) 19:31, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

I came here to say the same thing! HUGE thanks for the work you did here. You've inspired me to try and tackle the History of the administrative divisions of China before 1912 page. SilverStar54 (talk) 20:21, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks @SilverStar54! It would be great if you took on that article. These kinds of large-scale lists accumulate so much uncited cruft over the years when no one is watching them. It looks like some of the sub articles—List of provinces and commanderies of the Han dynasty and Administrative divisions of the Liao dynasty in particular—have had more care. Don't be afraid to uncollapse those tables :) Aza24 (talk) 21:48, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

March stories
my story today |
On IWD, I remember a 2016 DYK: Hana Blažíková, a Czech who sang German music in Japan. Girls and women sang how Bach arranged Pergolesi's Stabat Mater to a new text paraphrasing Psalm 51, last Sunday. - I loved improving Mary Bauermeister - on the Main page until yesterday. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:54, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- Bach arranging Pergolesi—How cool! Aza24 (talk) 02:06, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- And with genius: simply repeating Pergolesi's final fugue in major! - same question, still - Marek Kopelent died, and it's Saint Patrick's Day --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:58, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
- I always need more Pergolesi in my life... happy Saint P's day Aza24 (talk) 20:17, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
- cute! - today we remember the 150th birthday of Max Reger, who saw the horrors of a world war right when it began in 1914, while others were still in high patriotic moods --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:13, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
- Why would you change infobox person to infobox classical composer? - Most of these people are also musicians, teachers, husbands and wives ...? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:55, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Just for consistency and categorization—if we only used it for those who were solely classical composers then we would never use it. No reader can see the infobox type anyways, but feel free to change it back, I don't really think that aspect matters so much. Aza24 (talk) 07:58, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- And why would we ever use it? "Person" is well documented and maintained, and I doubt that about the other, - most recent change : parameter "work". Project opera recommends "Person" for people, and I follow. There's no consistency anyway. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:05, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Gerda, I don't mean to be rude, but I really don't care which infobox any composer article uses, so I see no reason to argue/debate/discuss this. Aza24 (talk) 08:08, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- I asked why, I don't follow and explained why, - any problem? Off for the next days. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:24, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- It's in the past, I will try to use infobox person in the future.
- Gerda, I am excited to see that a relatively new user (who you've probably noticed) is pushing Stravinsky's article to FA. I am little concerned that they are underestimating how much music content is missing in the article, though I've spoken to them about this. Would you keep a close eye on the progress? I will do so as well, and probably try to add some content myself if I find time. It would be hugely beneficial to get someone with Stravinsky's importance to FA (a lot of Jerome's work is in it too!). Aza24 (talk) 21:59, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
- yes, noticed and excited - BWV 1 today, and new pics, more of them tomorrow --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:07, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

Igor Stravinsky
Hi there @Aza24, and thank you for your edits over at Igor Stravinsky. I saw your response on the talk page and realize I forgot to respond. I've since expanded the lead and made a number of changes per requests at the GAN. As for the music section, I was curious what you think can be improved. I feel that a lot of the unique and influential aspects of his music are covered under "Influence", and "Music" exists to highlight his phases of composition. Additionally, I see that you cut a chunk of information about the unique orchestration of his works. Do you think this would fit better under "Music" rather than "Influence"? MyCatIsAChonk (talk) 00:23, 11 March 2023 (UTC)
- @MyCatIsAChonk, thanks for your work on the article, though I do not think I would have passed the GAN if I was reviewing. Asking about what I think can be improved in the music section is partially missing the point—there is not really a music section to begin with, just a few lines which over generalize hugely complex stylistic changes and development. A proper music section would include discussion of every major Stravinsky work, along with analysis from prominent musicologists and scholars—see equivalent sections in Jean Sibelius (though the integration in this article is a bit choppy), Debussy, Berlioz, Boulez etc.
- On the instrument lists, I'm afraid there's really no place for that information in the article—they belong on the individual articles for these pieces. For all of his innovations, there is nothing unique about his choice of instruments; Mahler, Schoenberg, Varese, Ravel etc. each wrote for just as large and diverse (if not larger) ensembles. Aza24 (talk) 02:05, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for clarifying that for me. I'll get to work so the section can be completed before the FAC. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) 16:30, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hey @Aza24, I've finished my expansion of the "Music" section for Stravinsky and will be working on implementing changes per the peer review and converting the sources. If you wouldn't mind taking a look before the FAC, I'd greatly appreciate it :) MyCatIsAChonk (talk) 00:44, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hey @MyCatIsAChonk. Would be happy to look over it but it might not be until next weekend. Looking much better already though! I'll try to get a newly formatted bibliography into the article soon. – Aza24 (talk) 05:18, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

Invitation template for WP:TCC
I read up on the contest's rationale, and I'm thoroughly convinced. I created a preliminary template to be placed on other editors' talk pages to invite them to participate. However, I've never created a template before, so I'd love some help and feedback. Check it out in my sandbox. 〜 Festucalex • talk 22:56, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
- Festucalex, that's such a great idea! We do already have Wikipedia:The Core Contest/MassMessage, but your version has more personal and to the point nature. It might be worth mentioning the monetary incentive. Any idea where you'd start with which editors to send the template? You could consider something like people on the List of Wikipedians by featured article nominations, though many of them might know about it already. Aza24 (talk) 23:20, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

Placed your code in my sandbox, added a header, and then substituted it on my talk page at User talk:Paine Ellsworth#Invitation to participate in WP:TCC. Gentle reminder to substitute the entire sandbox page (or template page) at the very end of an editor's talk page. 2022 Winter Olympics medal table source review
Hi there,
I was wondering if you could do a source review for 2022 Winter Olympics medal table regarding it's featured list nomination? I would appreciate the feedback.
- Hi @Birdienest81, I've now left some comments. Best – Aza24 (talk) 02:17, 4 May 2023 (UTC)

Hypothetically (actually not so hypothetically): If I'm trying to get an FT covering flowering plant families, and those families are generally grouped into: long-list-1, long-list-2, long-list-3, and Vitales, an order with just one family that doesn't belong to any of the first 3 lists. ... what's the best way to get the single family approved for membership in the FT? Or could the FT just consist of the 3 long lists, ignoring the one family? Or should I create a list called "List of families in long-list-3 and Vitales", even if those two groups don't have much to do with each other (aside from the fact that they're both members of the same large group called the rosids)? - Dank (push to talk) 21:29, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
Wait, I just thought of something ... maybe an "audited article of limited subject matter" (per WP:FT) that covers just the 3 families of the 2 rosid orders that don't belong in my other lists. I'll work on that next. - Dank (push to talk) 23:03, 19 April 2023 (UTC)- Striking, I put them in a different list. - Dank (push to talk) 02:47, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Dank, sorry I'm just responding to people after being busy IRL. I'm a bit confused, what would the main article/list of the proposed topic be? Aza24 (talk) 02:49, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- If I can get away with it (and if it isn't too long), my preference for the overview article would be List of plant family names with etymologies, renamed to simply List of flowering plant families (minus the images, minus the few rows of non-flowering plants, plus an appropriate lead, plus a short descriptions-and-uses column). That long list provided the etymology and taxonomy data for every list in this series. Btw, PresN and I found a solution for my question about where to put Vitales. - Dank (push to talk) 03:00, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- Added the sidebar for this list series. - Dank (push to talk) 03:04, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- Glad to hear you and PresN could work it out. Ooooo I love sidebars! Aza24 (talk) 03:17, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- Oops, nevermind, I just looked back at some tests I ran a couple of years ago, and List of flowering plant families (as I'm conceiving it here) would be too large. I'll shelve this idea for now. - Dank (push to talk) 14:16, 4 May 2023 (UTC)

Sahakdukht
Hi. I want to thank you for the articles about Armenian women composers. Thanks for your work. I want to translate them into Ukrainian, but I ran into a misunderstanding in the preamble.
Though her piece did not join the general šarakan liturgy, Sahakdukht's oeuvre as a whole is thought to have exerted considerable influence on subsequent šarakans; they introduced certain phrases into popular use and according to ethnomusicologist Şahan Arzruni they "helped to shape the development of the genre during subsequent centuries".
Who or what they? The subsequent šarakans? Or Sahakdukht and her brother? Or is it such a feature of the word oeuvre (like this noun is automatically plural)? Or oeuvre implies all of the šarakans of Sahakdukht? Please help me understand this fragment of text. With respect. Smpad (talk) 17:57, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Smpad, I'm so glad to hear you're translating these two articles. "They" in both instances is referring to the generally all the šarakans by Sahakdukht. We don't know enough about specific ones (since only one is extant) to make a more pointed observation than that.
- Admittedly, Arzruni is rather vague in his observation so I don't have full certainty on his exact meaning, which is why I directly quoted him rather than rephrasing myself. – Aza24 (talk) 22:28, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. And once again thank you for your work on the articles :) Your contribution is very important. Sincerely. Smpad (talk) 10:08, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

TFL notification
Hi, Aza24. I'm just posting to let you know that List of sculptures of Ludwig van Beethoven – a list that you have been heavily involved with – has been chosen to appear on the Main Page as Today's featured list for June 2. The TFL blurb can be seen here. If you have any thoughts on the selection, please post them on my talk page or at TFL talk. Regards, Giants2008 (Talk) 00:07, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
The article Ned Rorem you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Ned Rorem for comments about the article, and Talk:Ned Rorem/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. watchlist and contributions buttons in toolbars
I saw your question at WP:VPT. Have a look at my js for the skin User:Nthep/vector-2022.js. The first two add links to my contributions and my talk page to the header at the top of the page (watchlist is already in that header).
The last two lines add watchlist and contribution link to the sticky header that you see as you scroll down an article. Nthep (talk) 19:02, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you @Nthep! Exactly what I needed. Aza24 (talk) 04:21, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
May songs
my story today |

I had a good story on coronation day: a Te Deum we sang that day. And the following day we sang it for the composer ;) - And today we remember a composer who created music especially for us! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:58, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Some lovely reads Gerda, thank you! Have you seen this outstanding performance from the coronation? I am a huge Terfel fan.... Aza24 (talk) 22:30, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- I saw him as Falstaff in Salzburg - just great, so nuanced! - Thank you, - no, I've seen nothing of the coronation yet, having been extremely busy, last guests having left yesterday night, still many pics to be sorted ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:37, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- more pleasant music (just heard!) if you click on songs - did you know a string quartet with two cellos? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:21, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- Haven't heard of that, but a cool idea! Aza24 (talk) 05:47, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
- The piece deserves an article, and I took an image to string quartet only to find they list variations but not (yet) that one. But as usual: other topics more urgent. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:43, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
- and now May scenery pictured when you click on songs --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:12, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- Lovely! Aza24 (talk) 22:01, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- more of that ;) - also new memory and music, and ten years ago, I had a DYK for my most serious article --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:02, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
