Segontium

Just thought you should know that I added a reference from the National Museum Wales for the citation tag you left in this article in November 2014. And do you know how long it took me find a reference for the claim "Archaeological research shows that, by the year 120, there had been a reduction in the military numbers at the fort"? All of 10 seconds!! Yeah 10 seconds to do this search. And guess what? A reliable source was the actually the second choice. Can you believe it!? A 15 month old tag you left on that page asking for a citation took me all of a minute and a half to fix!!

I think editors like are you are the bane of this site because you know the system (and all it's rules). But do you really do anything useful? Not really. It's just bureaucracy. Thanks for your helpful contribution, 31.51.45.206. Like many who cannot be major contributors (having created only 82 articles), I have limited time but try to do my best for WP. When an article is not one of my primary interests, I generally remove it from my watchlist. You'll see that I last edited that particular article on in November 2014, adding photos I had taken on a visit to Segontium. And, yes, in a brief copyedit that same day, I made a single request for a citation. Sorry if that's a problem to you—but that's how Wikipedia works, via the friendly co-operation of millions of editors. By all means give yourself marks for your citation search. However, a closer examination of my contributions will show that I, too, spend a large amount of my time finding citations and expanding ref link descriptions. Scarborough notable people

It took me ages to source the references for those notable people. Look at the dates - June 2016. You can't resurrect a talk page consensus from two years ago as a justification. Every other Yorkshire page that has a notable people page has the citations next to them.

There being no response (or consensus), I naturally assumed no objection. There is no reason whatsoever for such a such a list to include relatively trivial personages such as momentarily popular DJs, newsreaders, etc. (who already appear in the main list flagged). Nor should entries duplicate the content of the relevant wikilinked article.

I have to sympathise with you on painstakingly finding citations. In this case, the citations are most appropriately placed in the specific wikilinked articles. We might need a citation on a redlinked name in order to establish both notability and the connection with Scarborough. Perhaps it's time for a proper discussion on the article's talk page about these matters. I think I've given my views about what the criteria should be. My list has been ordered by date of birth. I'm pleased to see that your refs have been restored to my pruned content. In view of the consistent Yorks standard (of which I was unaware at the time), the citations are correct, and I was wrong to sweep them away. As per my statement on the talk page, my main concern was to leave the more trivial persons in the hatnoted full local list, and I'm happy that this selection hasn't been restored. All the best. when I started the finn article never thought we'd get to where it is now... interesting with the books and interviews and all - the last ref - the bar in the old central - is very intriguing - did they actually have an inhouse bar in a police HQ? seems odd to me, I would have thought it would have been an oxymoron to have had one... In time, the important section of the article will be called "Cover-up". The following little ditty was attributed to Les Ayton (leader of the "Nanga Boys", if I remember aright):

That's reproduced in Juliet Wills's book—a must-read, with masses of closely researched details and quotes. In her conclusion she writes: The powerful, the rich, and the friends of the inner circle could get away with murder as long as they didn't speak out. If you did, your smallest crimes and misdemeanours would be ruthlessly pursued, exposed and where possible prosecuted. As Ayton would often have said: "And don't you forget it". I dont get it - Val Lumsden who becomes Val French - there is an article http://www.womenaustralia.info/leaders/fff/pdfs/french.pdf that says Bevan Lawrence is a brother in law, I must be anthropologically challenged but the late Berndts' kinship lectures have been a misadenture ? - how can Lumsden - French be related unless ? Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest!
