Texas A&M Wikiproject
Starting the groundwork for a Texas A&M wikiproject. I can't promise ill be active in it. I am sure future aggie wikipedians will pick it up. I just made a list of wikipedia entries that are a&m related. please add on, and organize. Talk:Texas_A&M_University/WPPrep as for the project itself. I think i will start it once Karanacs comes back. Wikipedia:WikiProject Proposed it with the wikiproject council. Put your name down if you are interested in joining Proposal I think after i make this project, of course i will remain sort of active with this group, but i am not just and Aggie. I have many more interests. I think i am going to help bring the Star Trek page to FA status. Gig em Oldag07 03:56, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. I've joined the A&M wikiproject! JRDarby 08:08, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes, my page was referring to the Lloyd H. Hughes you added! Whoop! I lived 4 years in Hughes Hall and felt he deserved recognition, but hadn't had time to write an article. I will take a lot at my notes/bookmarks and see what I can add to the article. Thanks so much! Gig Em! KarenJo90 16:17, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Nice additions for the list
Agree with KarenJo90, nice. As for your request, I think it doesn't touch enough on the history of A&M and the list is woefully lacking in military personnel. I'll help later, if I can. I think it could be a trifle longer too. Other:
- "The terms 'alumnus' or 'Ex-Aggie' are never used" and then you have a pict of the Clayton Williams Alumni center...hmmm... Alumnus/Alumna (females)/Alumni are certainly used, but there is no such thing as an Ex-Aggie. "Once and Aggie always an Aggie" (Let me know if you need a source for that...).
- "All former students belong to The Association of Former Students" No they don't, but membership is open to all former students
- "which is one of the largest alumni associations." needs source or to be used later in the article.

Well folks, thanks to your reviews and comments, the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band is now a featured article on Wikipedia. It should take a day or so to update, but it's a done deal. Thanks for the help, BlueAg09. — BQZip01 — talk 19:21, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Starting 2 core Texas A&M Pages
I created chimera test articles from different articles for new pages that I have suggested should we choose to go for the featured topic award. Most of what i did was copy and paste. none of the sections flow.
I need some suggestions on where to continue. especially on student life, although we could expand some of the colleges.
remember to get featured topic status just have to get them to GA status. i don't think these articles are FA type articles anyways. Thanks for your help. Oldag07 12:37, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Howdy!
Hello, thanks for the note. Yes, it is good to be back spending a little time on Wikipedia. I just got really busy with off-wiki stuff so I had to vanish for a bit. That happens to me periodically. I vanish for a month or so and then come back with a vengeance. This time my return may be a little more gradual. I still have a lot of stuff going on off-wiki that I have to keep up with but I should be able to make a few contributions I think.
Congratulations on getting two A&M articles to FA status! That is quite an accomplishment. The Aggie wikiproject has suddenly taken a big lead as far as Big 12 schools go. A Featured Topic is certainly a possibility. Again, I am not back to full activity status yet but I will make some small contributions where I can.

Answer
This particular person served as an administrator of some kind (for an enlisted person), senior ROTC duty usually is a clerk position of some kind, maybe a firearms instructor, or the supervisor of said personnel. He may have been a student and taken courses as well, but I would assume he didn't have an affiliation with a particular class. If you want to have an educated guess on an affiliation, I'd go for '55. — BQZip01 — talk 03:43, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

The Association of Former Students
Howdy!
I am a current graduate student at Texas A&M who also received my bachelor's degree at A&M. I was just curious as to why the version of The Association of Former Students that I edited and posted (which took me 2 weeks to write and send to Association employees to edit, etc.) was reverted to the current version. I understand that you are working on a project to report and post on all things Texas A&M and I understand and respect that very much. However, I have extensive knowledge of The Association of Former Students and went to great lengths to get the information and make sure it was accurate, up-to-date, and correct. I believe my edit was extremely knowledgeable and gave an in-depth look at all the things The Association of Former Students does for current and former students alike. I am wondering if we can't find any common ground here.
Thanks and Gig 'Em.
Thanks
I really appreciate your edits and editions to the page on The Association of Former Students. That's the respect and attitude that every Aggie should take. Thanks again!

Thanks for the intro bro, yeah I noticed the webcam a few weeks ago and posted it on texags, I'll start working on a draft of a construction edit here shortly (being at work kinda hampers my progress!). The lifesciences building also has a webcam, but it's above public access and they only publish still shots from it every other week or so...but some of those shots would be good to include as well. Quick note on the use of {{Non-free reduced}}
Please don't forget to add a time-stamp as the parameter to the template, because it is needed for correct categorization (so the old revisions can eventually get deleted). Either use {{Non-free reduced|~~~~~}}, or the shortcut {{subst:furd}}. Thank you. --Pekaje 19:01, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Re:Torah reading picture
The picture you chose, while a great picture, is of a man reading Psalms at the Western Wall, not of the Torah reading ceremony. (I think it would make a good addition to the Psalms article, maybe toward the end of Use of the Psalms in Jewish ritual.) The best picture you have there may be this one, which shows Torah reading according to the Sephardic custom. For reference, a good picture would be something along these lines. Thanks for your work making Wikipedia graphically pleasing and informative! --Eliyak T·C 21:41, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Johntex. Remember this discussion? Recently I got tired of the White House pic of Vince Young, so I finally asked the photographer if she could switch the license. She changed the license to CC-by-SA and so I uploaded a cropped version of the pic to the Commons. I changed the contrast of it as well (maybe a bit too much). Anyhow, hope you like it. BlueAg09 (Talk) 08:28, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

- And thanks for your help with 2007 Texas Longhorn football team as well. Best, Johntex\talk 18:31, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- I would not say that the 2006 game was a fluke, exactly. Texas was predicted to win, certainly, but A&M had a good team, also. McGee in particular is a great player. Throw in the rivalry and the emotion and the chance to beat the reigning national champions and I expected that the Aggies would step up to the challenge.
- Of course, it helped that Colt was still hurting from the injury sustained against Kansas. I don't say that as any type of excuse to justify our loss. If Texas doesn't have a back-up ready to step in and play at the same level then that is shame on us and we have to take the consequences.
- As to this year, on paper, the Longhorns seem to be the better team. We'll also be looking to "erase" last year's defeat and hopefully we will still be highly ranked and needing to win at College Station to keep our championship hopes growing. However, you hold the home field advantage for this year and that means a lot. I never want to get over-confident going into Kyle Field.
- I don't suppose you happen to be trying to get rid of a ticket or two for the game? :-) Johntex\talk 19:16, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Of course the student section would be wonderful. I have been lucky enough to have attended bonfire, but I've never had the chance to actually attend a game at Kyle Field. As to the maroon out, my shade of maroon may be a little orange-ish, but I don't mind standing the whole game and if any cute girls want to kiss me when there is scoring that is OK too. :-) Johntex\talk 19:54, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Tower picture
Good morning, thanks for your message. I think the Littlefield fountain article is worth its own article. It could easily be expanded with a more detailed explanation of its history (it's current configuration is not what was originally planned). Also, having it separate allows it to be in categories that would not apply to Coppini himself. These include Category:Buildings and structures in Texas and Category:Fountains
As to the tag, I dispute that the "3D art" tag has any relevance to the question or any place on Wikipedia. It is another case of Wikipedia becoming overly paranoid about copyright and neglecting our mission to build the most informative encyclopedia possible. As a practical matter, US courts have not held that a sculptor owns the copyright to photos taken of a statue in a public place.
Also, by some counts, the fountain could actually be considered a campus building. It has its own 3 letter building code on campus maps and it has a human-sized entryway into the statue for access and maintenance to switches and pumps. I believe it also connects to the campus-wide tunnel system as well. Johntex\talk 02:01, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

It would be helpful to keep changes to a minimum as the page is up for FA status. Your review would be helpful! — BQZip01 — talk 06:48, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- I also reverted your changes to the picture. You made the picture darker which took out the details showing the massive size of Bonfire in comparison to people on the ground. It is plenty small enough and has little need to be reduced in size. — BQZip01 — talk 06:53, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- Resolution doesn't necessarily have to be that low, just that it is not incredibly detailed. This is the unaltered PR image from A&M. — BQZip01 — talk 07:23, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- I gotta get some sleep...
- ...but, I am not sure that there are that many free pictures of bonfire out there that would show anything other than people getting together. - Hi, in answer to your question on my Discussion page regarding Aggie Bonfire photos - yes, I have a number of wonderful, official Bonfire photos from 1975-1978... I was actually the rep selling them to the W-1 unit for the photographer, so I was able to get them at a discount. They're all still copyrighted by the photographer, presumably... and I didn't have a camera back then, so I haven't any photos of my own. I will ask on the Waggie email list if anyone else has any personal photos to donate, as some of my unit were actively involved in building Bonfire - yes, even allowed on the Stack.... tho' be prepared - so many of our photos from so long ago are really yellowed with
agetime!! I do have one truly priceless artifact that I plan to donate to A&M at our next major reunion. For Aggie Muster 1978, I was flown to Cincinnati, OH, to be the guest speaker at the combined Cincinnati-Dayton Muster. As part of my preparations, I put together two large posterboards collage-style, filled with Batt clippings and other campus trivia - these were displayed on easels during the Muster. Lord alone knows how they managed to survive all this time, and all my military moves, relatively unscathed, but I still have them... also a mite yellowed and a wee bit shabby with the passing years... but nonetheless priceless. I'll take a look at the posterboards in the next couple of days to see if there is anything there you can use here. Akindofmagick 14:39, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

First of all, you mentioned the NPOV. Using the term "rare occasion" when talking about Aggie victories at home is not neutral. It smacks of homerism. It's definitely not a "rare occasion". Especially since Fran got there. Second, as far as the school songs go, you know, as well as I do, that the Aggie obsession with UT goes back a long way. Would you like me to post the words to the War Hymn?
And third, you need to get over yourself. It's Wikipedia, for cripes sake. Anyone who comes here looking for accurate info is not very bright. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.245.146.67 (talk) 18:13, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
