Altered speedy deletion rationale: Bharat Bhushan Ashu (politician)

Hello Cabayi, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I deleted Bharat Bhushan Ashu (politician), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided. The speedy deletion criteria are extremely narrow and specific, and the process is more effective if the correct criterion is used. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. The WordsmithTalk to me 13:59, 1 January 2020 (UTC)

Shouldn't this be re-filed under 1MDB Group? -- RoySmith (talk) 15:12, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

RoySmith, I don't think there's any connection to 1MDB Group. I'm pretty sure that Krelnik just stuck "Unknown" in Twinkle's box requesting the master's name without any thought that it would actually accuse Unknown or that anyone would have that username. This isn't the first accusation on Unknown's talk page. I'm sure it won't be the last. Cabayi (talk) 15:20, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
Heh. I guess that's what you get for picking a user name like that :-) -- RoySmith (talk) 15:22, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
RoySmith, yup, I went through a short phase with the username for (;;). It was a very weak C programming joke (for loop#Use as infinite loops) as it was supposed to be my forever name. You have no idea how many templates and modules break when they bump into unexpected semi-colons. Facepalm Cabayi (talk) 15:35, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
Yup, sorry for the confusion, I saw suspicious behavior on the part of one user, but I didn't have a "master" to attribute it to so I put Unknown. I don't do SPI very often, apologies. --Krelnik (talk) 15:45, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

Heya

Would you considering removing your g5 here? It serves as a good honeypot (but maybe we can get an admin to move protect it?) Praxidicae (talk) 12:46, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

Praxidicae, I have no objection to you removing it if you're going to watch it as a honeypot. Since I have no intention of watching it myself.... Cabayi (talk) 15:44, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

apology

if i have stuffed up connections - it seems that the project is still very relevant

Thanks for the fix JarrahTree 11:19, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
JarrahTree, no worries, no apology needed. WikiProject Succession Box Standardization is kind of moribund because, well, most succession boxes have now been standardised. There are a few of us who stll watch (good grief! the project mainpage still has 65 watchers - I would never have believed there were so many). It just seems appropriate to me that, rather than starting new and unwatched talk pages, it would be better to keep the talk together where someone might respond. Come to think of it, isn't there a bot that goes around redirecting the talk pages of subpages? I wonder why it didn't here? Cabayi (talk) 11:33, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
yup some have suggested (not on wiki) that 80% of my edits should really be done by bot... I much prefer real life viewing I have seen too many bots and people associated encounter ranges of issues not needed JarrahTree 11:38, 11 January 2020 (UTC)

Globasa

You are correct. While adding the source did solve the problem stated at the time (that the article was sourceless), it is not an independent source and thus cannot qualify "Globasa" as a Wikipedia article. Mediator64 (talk) 17:51, 12 January 2020 (UTC)Mediator64

SPI:Rabbi Saltzman.

Was it correct to create the SPI? I believe that he was blocked after I created the SPI entry.Naraht (talk) 13:28, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Naraht, it was, & thanks for doing so. You had no way of knowing that an admin would block the sock just one minute later. Some editors seem to throw up so many red flags that everybody notices them quickly, whether it's through new pages or edit filters, or repeated vandalism of a watched page. Gregory's meltdown was one of them, but you never know which ones they'll be. Cabayi (talk) 17:46, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
I'm not sure how much research would have had to be done at the SPI, but he certainly wasn't trying to fly under the radar.Naraht (talk) 19:04, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Request of help of improving a draft page

Can you help me? If not how can I find users interested in improving the page List of fictional wars? Dannyguns (talk) 09:17, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

Dannyguns, this list (in my opinion) covers too wide an area. Does the fictional self-bombing in Catch-22 belong with the War of the Ring? I think you could spend the rest of your life adding to the list and still get nowhere near to complete. So, thanks but no-thanks, I'm not interested.

welcome to the admin corps

Congratulations on your successful RFA!
In a fitting cap to an...interesting year, it's your turn to be force fed hear what the wise editor told a few editors after their RFA passed:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version. (I got nothing here. It's inevitable. I'd be shocked if you haven't done it already.)
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. Without exception, you will pick the wrong one to do. (See #5.)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll. (You'll attract many more of those now, because mop. They must like to drink the dirty water in the bucket.)
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block, because really, what else is there to live for?
  5. Remember that when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
It will not be a personal attack because we are admins and, therefore, we are all rouge anyway.
  6. Finally, remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able. Or we can consult the wise editor who never lets anybody down.

Correction

You made a mistake about where the source needed to be with May Monique Ocean. Check this out [[1]], i made the same mistake you, apparently these list pages do now require a source to add. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 13:12, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

Hell in a Bucket, plus points for catching that.
Minus points for reverting the ndash to a - (compare to the other lines); for relinking the year (only the first should be linked - MOS:OVERLINK); and for using a google search as your source, most of its results (including the knowledge panel) are derived from Wikipedia - (WP:CIRCULAR).

Thank you for blocking him. The IP that created College Kumar (2020 film) is also his (and by extension, B.Bhargava Teja's) so can you please delete that page created in violation of WP:BLOCKEVASION and move College Kumar (2020 Tamil film) to its place? --Kailash29792 (talk) 04:32, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

Kailash29792, you presented no evidence against any IP editors in Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/B.Bhargava Teja so there's no basis for a G5 deletion. Also, as Sulfurboy has already told you, College Kumar (2020 film) is no longer eligible for G5. The cleanup required, so far as I can see, is a A10 deletion of College Kumar (2020 Tamil film).
Your SPI report showed that you had seen evidence, but for some reason you didn't provide diffs connecting the sock to the master. Now you want action taken against IPs you didn't even report? No. Cabayi (talk) 09:10, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Is this convincing enough that Bhargav created College Kumar (2020 film) via an IP? Before you delete College Kumar (2020 Tamil film), please allow someone to complete a history merge of it. --Kailash29792 (talk) 09:20, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Kailash29792, you're missing the point. You could send me a copy of Teja's broadband invoice showing in print that it was his IP - it wouldn't make any difference. Other editors (mostly you) have now made contributions. It's no longer G5 eligible. The only editor to contribute to your version (besides you) is Srivin who has also contributed to the other version, so he won't lose attribution.
If you want to report the IPs at SPI you can do that. But at this stage, that won't make any difference to the fate of the article either. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 09:39, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Cabayi, Just so you know it looks as if Kallash just went in and removed what was in the original article and put in everything from his article. Not sure what needs to be done here, but this disruptive editing/agenda setting is getting pretty absurd. Figure you might want to handle it since it seems you two have an established rapport. Sulfurboy (talk) 09:32, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Sulfurboy and Cabayi, okay I apologise. Forgive me for everything I did. Please spare College Kumar (2020 Tamil film) from deletion (I have converted it to a redirect), and allow the history merging to be completed. Seeing how Welcome Obama had been deleted multiple times since it was created by a sockpuppet everytime, I felt Bhargav's creation of College Kumar (2020 film) too to be deleted for the same reason. Kailash29792 (talk) 09:49, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Kailash29792, You apologize and then one sentence later again request the page be deleted? Ridiculous. You need to go undo your overwriting of the original page with your material. That's pure vandalism. Sulfurboy (talk) 09:53, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Kailash29792, Here's the points as I see them at the moment...
  • You're edit warring.
  • Your far superior version includes largish chunks of copyright reviews. Your promise to Galobtter when you were unblocked was that you wouldn't include plot summaries, as you had included many chunks of copyright plot summaries in the past.
I'm a new admin so give me your advice please. Do I re-block you for violating the spirit of your conditional unblock, or do I give you a level 4-im warning? Would my effort in giving you yet another chance be wasted? Cabayi (talk) 10:04, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Okay I undid the overwriting. I did not add a plot summary, remembering my promise to Galobtter. And the reviews were properly put in quotes, so I think that's a quotefarm issue than a copyvio issue (tell me if I'm wrong). Once again, will you forgive me and not block me? Can I properly add content from my version in separate edits and give attribution? And this time I won't keep "largish chunks of copyright reviews", maybe just single sentences. --Kailash29792 (talk) 10:23, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Kailash29792, though the wording of your unblock was about plot summaries, your underlying problem is a lack of attention to copyright issues. Carrying on with your copyright problems under a different section title doesn't excuse it. I'd strongly advise you to avoid cutting and pasting, and to summarise the reviews in your own words. Copying text is likely to cause you more grief if you carry on.
You are of course free to improve the article, cautiously. I'll note that your edits after leaving a message here suggest firstly that you have a Tamil v Telugu agenda - there's room for both Tamil & Telugu posters if the film is being released in 2 languages - and secondly that you want to advertise your conduct today. Really? Cabayi (talk) 11:20, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
I don't see a copyright issue with the quotes, assuming you are referring to this (if that's not the problematic version let me know). The quotes don't seem nearly long enough to be problematic from a copyright point of view; the problems earlier AFAIK were copying/close paraphrasing much larger chunks without quoting. So re copyright I don't see a reason to warn (re edit warring I haven't looked into that). Galobtter (pingó mió) 22:54, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

College Kumar

Before you immediately declare me a sockpuppet here, I want to tell you I'm not 76.187.201.226, the IP user who re-added content originally added by me to College Kumar (evidence is here). In fact, I had already pinged you about this here, before Sulfurboy opened the SPI case. --Kailash29792 (talk) 07:58, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

I'm going nowhere near this as WP:INVOLVED. Cabayi (talk) 08:14, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

K

Cyphoidbomb, the differences as I saw them...

  • moving Tamil ahead of Telugu in the lede,
  • making the Telugu actors subordinate to the Tamil in the cast, and
  • replacing the Telugu poster with the Tamil poster.

The changes looked more like a Tamil v Telugu issue rether than NPOV improvement. Which I mentioned above.

Given the progression through G6, G5, and AFD, all with the objective of replacing the existing text with the "far superior" version, conveniently sitting in waiting, overwriting the article with his copy-in-waiting, being reverted, apologising, then doing it again...

Given the requested histmerge when the existing article has that material, and all the same editors, in its history already...

Given the long quotes from reviews when K had just recently been unblocked from prior copyvio issues, which I mentioned above...

Given that K has 9 years and 125k edits to his credit already...

What advice could I constructively have given that isn't going to be of the egg sucking variety?

If you feel there's a better outcome to be had, please, feel free. Cabayi (talk) 19:12, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

Cabayi, there is no racial bias/prejudice here. It was simply a case of sorting alphabetically (Tamil comes before Telugu, and Prabhu comes before Rajendra Prasad). Only if the production company was Andhra Pradesh/Telangana-based, I would have kept Telugu on top, as is the case at Mayabazar. Also, I replaced the Telugu poster with a Tamil one because it had the title in both Tamil and English (following Balablitz's reasoning at File:Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru poster.jpg), and the entirety of the main cast; I couldn't find a Telugu poster which had both. To conclude, there was no better advice you could have given; you did your best, but I screwed up despite my good intentions. Kailash29792 (talk) 03:42, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
Kailash29792, Prabhu may come before Rajendra alphabetically, but when you also indent Rajendra and add the conditional text "portrays the character in Telugu", having no equivalent "portrays the character in Tamil" for Prabhu - it doesn't look like an even handed treatment of the two versions. However, I believe you have the best intentions, and that the block has no further preventative purpose, so I've lifted it.
A wikitable, with Tamil & Telugu actors in adjacent columns may be a more neutral presentation. But that's just my opinion. Happy editing. Cabayi (talk) 11:40, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
Cabayi, thank you. I've re-edited the article with the best of faith and zero racial/disruptive editing intentions. Hope no-one reverts to the less constructive version. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:18, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
Well I was going to respond, but kept getting delayed. Things seem to have worked out. Cabayi, I wasn't trying to drag you, so I'm sorry if I gave off that impression. Some of your points above are valid, like questioning the Tamil v. Telugu thing and being concerned about the excessive quotations. My emotional consideration, was that I didn't want to see a long-time editor who has made some mistakes in the recent past get railroaded into more sanctions. That happens quite often not only at Wikipedia, but in the urban landscape as well. Thanks and regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:15, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
Cyphoidbomb, I've been reverted again despite the politeness in my edit summary. Can you please point out my edits to Sulpher and explain why they should stay? Anyway, you've all got reasons to celebrate as I will, not may, quit Wiki forever once I complete 10 years in 2021. Kailash29792 (talk) 15:21, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
Kailash29792, I reverted them because you were barred from editing the page for one week. You also are outright removing content and replacing it with your own knowing full well this will be objected to. If you want to make changes, particularly ones YOU KNOW will be objected to, you should first wait till your block has passed and secondly, build consensus on the page's talk page. This constant babysitting of your disruptive editing is getting really old. Sulfurboy (talk) 15:29, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
@Sulfurboy: Cabayi unblocked Kailash. Otherwise, how would he have edited the page? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:32, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

Deleted page

Hi Cabayi, Thanks for talking. I started a page for my doctor P. Daniel Ward and wanted to know why you deleted it. I don't think it should have been deleted. He is a world class surgeon and I think people want to know about him. I certainly wanted to know before my surgery. Can you give me some suggestions? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Faceigen (talkcontribs) 14:58, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

Faceigen, P. Daniel Ward was nominated for being promotional, and I agreed.

  • The text was promotional and the sources provided for those claims were notindependent.
  • Most of the sources were by Ward, not about him.
  • The text looked to have a bias, which you have confirmed. Please don't write about people or things with which you have a personal relationship - WP:COI.
  • The text contained external links to his businesses - WP:ELNO.
  • Some of the sources have commercial links to him, offering discounts etc, they're not independent or reliable sources.
  • Wikipedia is not a directory for choosing a surgeon - WP:NOTDIRECTORY.

Wikipedia:Deletion review is open to you if you have good reason to have the article restored. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 17:08, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

Help

Hey. Can you take a look at Jonpark47/Diane Schenandoah and delete it accordingly? I have no idea how to tag it or where to move it to. It's also a near dupe of User:Jonpark47/Diane Schenandoah & User:Jonpark47/Diane Schenandoah/Bibliography. Thanks. Minorax (talk) 07:46, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

Minorax, try adding the following to your common.js...
importScript( 'User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js' ); // Backlink: [[User:Evad37/MoveToDraft]]
It does everything you want to do to this page, moves it to draft, adds afc tags, neutralises the categories, sends a message, & supresses the redirect. Cabayi (talk) 19:38, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
Alternatively, I have in the past redirected the article back to the draft with an edit summary of "one copy is enough" and then tagged the redir as WP:R2. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 20:43, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
Hmm. Thanks! Minorax (talk) 04:21, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

Page Reviewal

Hello there, I was just wondering - being fairly new to Wikipedia - How long does the deletion discussion for Jamie Oram go on for, and when does it reach a conclusion?

Also, I would like to know why you selected the page for deletion, because I want to improve the page - to make it follow suit under the Wikipedia Guidelines. I have recently made a few changes, taking out the Musician phrases and hyperlinks, and the promotional language and irrelevant information - so that the page is now left with the Actors facts, his notable works and filmography, and a tiny part of his personal life (because other than the fact that he is an Actor, the other information promoting his musicianship was irrelevant and I have deleted this. However I have kept the part about Jamie achieving a grade 9, as a part of factual information, and does not (in my oponion now promote anything).

I really wouldnt like this page to get deleted, and the Actor is a notable Voice and TV Actor, therefore it would be really kind, if you told me the issues so that I can fix them and make the article better WikiGuyde10 (talk) 11:31, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

This is a big sad. I know this sounds needy but can you please do mine, it would be much apreshiate. RealFakeKimT 08:27, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
RealFakeKim, like I said those I did yesterday were my first, so I cherry picked those which were clearly approve or decline. Yours was (to my inexperienced eyes) less clear cut. If I say what made me want to think deeper you can put my mind at rest...
  • "add categories to pages"
AWB lets you plough through a list of articles and make standardised (or semi-standardised) changes to each of them. That list is often populated by articles which are already in a category. I don't see how you'd use it the other way round. Tell me.
AWB helps you drive through a number of similar changes quickly. It seems to me that categorisation is necessarily a slower process which requires more attention to the content of the articles being categorised.
How would AWB help that Wikipedia:HotCat doesn't?
  • "add short descriptions to pages"
Short descriptions also need attention to the content of the article and individual consideration. Isn't the helper a better tool for this?
  • "fix errors and fix typos" would be more convincing as a reason if you had spelt appreciate correctly.
Convince me. Cabayi (talk) 09:24, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
RealFakeKim, I've marked it as withdrawn by you, with no prejudice against any future request. When you have a use for it and file another request, feel free to drop me a note here. Happy editing, Cabayi (talk) 18:00, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

I saw your COI. I would like to reassure all that I believe I absolutely have zero COI. Having said that, I would like to disclose that while I do not know personally the subject nor I've ever spoken to him, I did ask him (indirectly) to confirm a piece of information I sourced from various independent newpapers (links below). Last week I wrote to the public (info) email address of the bank the subject chairs. Yesterday I received a reply from his personal email address (maybe because it was no business day). The bank knows that the news platform I work for has been writing in the past about them. Only after such confirmation, I thought it was a good idea to give my contribution and update the wikipedia page. I hope I did ok. David T Cohen, it's not just you. If you look at the page's history there's an unusually high proportion of editors (both those with accounts and anonymous IP editors) who have never edited any other pages than Cerina & Cipriani. It's not to say that any specific editor has a conflict, but the overall effect is highly suspect.
Reminder: Please sign your posts on talk pages. 4 tildes is all it takes. Cabayi (talk) 18:29, 29 March 2020 (U

OK we will. Thank you. I don't have enough experience to judge. But if it can help: my employer newsgateny was writing last week about some 10 famous names (among which cerina and cipriani). I was doing a section of the job. can that explain part of the action?David T Cohen (talk) 21:27, 29 March 2020 (UTC) (did signing come up ok this time?)

This is a very unfair story. I'VE ZERO CONFLICT! NOBODY PAID ME!! I did not and I do not know the subjects personally. But the platform I was freelancing with took your accusations seriously and CANCELED my contract! Do you understand what that means? And you are still joking about that? It is shameful to accuse people just like this. I wanted to hear about Wikipedia never again. But today I was informed that my position has dramatically worsened. The platform is claiming that you involved also them in this matter. Is it true? Why??? They are saying I caused this and are coming after ME for damages. What did you do exactly? What do they have to do with this? I need to urgently know as I might soon find myself in Court and the lawyer needs to be prepared. This could be a tragedy for me and my family. I've been accused of all kind of wrongdoings because of a stupid edit I thought was of interest as the people involved are well known. I want you to understand that this is unfair and cruel. Please answer about the platform as per above. I need to prepare myself.David T Cohen (talk) 21:22, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

This story is Kafkaesque. Really unfair. Please need to know re the above.David T Cohen (talk) 21:56, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

David T Cohen, the only thing I've had done which can no longer be seen is to request that Cerina's email address be removed (WP:OVERSIGHTed) from where you posted it on User talk:JavaHurricane (now archived at User talk:JavaHurricane/Archive 2#your editing Wiki page). Posting it contravened Wikipedia's policy on WP:BLPPRIVACY. I cautioned you about this at that time. Cabayi (talk) 07:05, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

What is that TW you have posted on the 28 March? I do not care about me. You will never hear from me again, I had the worst experience in Wikipedia, completely unfair. But I need to get my former employer, NewsgateNY, off my back. My lawyer is telling me that because of your accusation (COI, TW etc.) NewsgateNY ARE INVOLVED and if they can prove damage I can have SERIOUS consequences. ALL OF THIS IS CRAZY AS I'VE DONE NOTHING. Because of your accusations I lost a freelance contract and that was bad enough. But even if Newsgate cannot prove damages I'm ALREADY spending money at talking to a legal advisor!!! Do you find that fair? Is there a way to undo, repair your posts? Disconnect them from all of this so they cannot claim damages? I just want to GET OUT of this and NEVER GET CLOSE TO WIKIPEDIA AGAIN. There has NEVER BEEN a Conflict of Interest!! But once again: you can believe me or not, I don't care but I need to protect myself. If you are a responsible person you must understand.David T Cohen (talk) 08:00, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

Talk:Trojan horse revision deletion

I'm not sure what really warranted the revision deletion of Talk:Trojan horse, but can you please send back my edit that was included in the deletion, along with the edit summary? It looks like there may have been edits of other sections that didn't deserve to be deleted. Fabrickator Fabrickator (talk) 21:05, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Fabrickator, I deleted the offending section then revdeleted the revisions which contained it. If you'd like someone to review my decision you can approach any of the admins from Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to handle RevisionDelete requests. I'm not convinced that the edits of a sweary troll should be restored. Cabayi (talk) 21:44, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
Personally, I would not RD it. Doesn't seem to get past the hurdle of "ordinary" incivility imo (it's actually more immature than incivil, so there's that). --qedk (t c) 21:55, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
I had entered into some conversation with this person whose position I wasn't sure of... this section was a parallel discussion with the preceding "Capitalization Convention" section, and I thought better to have a discussion with someone whose position was ambiguous than somebody who seemed unlikely to have an open mind. So if you don't want to undo the revdelete, I'd like to have that back so I can introduce this information into the other section.
Additionally, there are edits by Snori in the "Capitalization Convention" section as well, which I presume also have no objectionable content and should be restored. Thanks for your help with this. Fabrickator (talk) 23:19, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
Fabrickator, from his other contributions, and his honest comment in your discussion,

I learn swear words, but I'm not mature.

his intent was to introduce misinformation, to drop f-bombs (even the cyrillic in his sig is an f-bomb), and to waste people's time.
I'm sad that you've been sucked into wasting your time on this guy and his made-up numbers - this isn't the only page where he's thrown in unsourced numbers. But I'm not so sad that I'm willing to waste more of my time on it, I've restored the revisions.
QEDK, Thanks for the input. Cabayi (talk) 08:16, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

F5pillar requests

Hi, (Cabayi) am (F5pillar). here is the request I recently made and seems you reply me there. I just want to know what is require for me to be given this permission of Pending change review I need it to do a lot here and even in my watchlist, I just want to assist here in WP. (F5pillar--(Let's talk) 11:13, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

F5pillar, frankly, you're too new, your English is too error-prone, and you repeatedly request permissions without showing any understanding of what they enable. I'd suggest that you don't request any permissions for at least 90 days, then apply for one and only one permission, the one you understand best and have a use for.
Blanking your talk page just adds to the impression that you're trying to hide a problematic past.
Anarchyte may have different thoughts. Cabayi (talk) 11:30, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
I agree entirely with Cabayi, but will default to whatever they decide. Anarchyte (talk | work) 15:40, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
If F5pillar continues with random requests for permissions, a partial block from WP:PERM/the Wikipedia namespace may be warranted. --MrClog (talk) 17:38, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
Sorry for replying late, just busy with some coronavirus issues we founded two positive covid-19 in my place.
  • At first i appreciate chatting with you two (Anarchyte & Cabayi) you seems to be Barnstar to me with the manner of the way you approach and it's seems educated but as for (MrClog) manners of approaching and decision taking is bad, you can't bring up a funny suggestion like (If F5pillar continues with random requests for permissions, a partial block from WP:PERM/the Wikipedia namespace may be warranted), what's that for, i have never seems anyone here warranting me with words like that so stop it, not only for me but for all.
  • Reasons for random request: I have never known or read in any policy that when a user request random permission would be block or warrant for that and any request I made here was with explanation like the one of Rollback I explained the reason why I needed the permission the same with pending changes reviewing all explained and to the issue of blanking my talk page, you can check the history all of the sudden messages are of some of my article in draft space, there isn't any warning of block or disrupted edit i made and willingly I had i t too much for me as messages box so I decided to clean it when am done with all the message and replying but don't think am hidden something there because that's how I like it. And believe me am serious about having problems with visual edit I used (F5pillar--(Let's talk) 22:21, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

Your decline of my speedy deletion request at User:Bakhshizada/Irade Mehri

Greetings! Shouldn't the bio of the singer be in Draft space, not in User space? Otherwise it comes off an an article, but is unvetted. Usually this comes under Not a host Thanks. Jusdafax (talk) 11:31, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Jusdafax, if I'd done a translation from az:İradə Mehri into a second language I don't think that I'd offer it up for collaboration in draftspace until I'd polished it in my userspace more. Bakhshizada's veering back and forth betwen she and he suggests a bit more polish is needed first. And it's miles ahead of where I'd be if I tried to translate an article into Azeri.
Working on drafts in userspace isn't uncommon (it used to be the norm) and there's certainly no prohibition on it. Translations of foreign language wiki articles don't fall under "blogs, web hosting, social networking and memorials".
Vetting should definitely take place before the page makes it to mainspace, and this page really needs it (the Azerbaijani wiki's tolerance for unsourced BLPs won't make the grade here). But eliminating early drafts isn't part of that process. That's more than a little WP:BITEy. Cabayi (talk) 11:57, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
The description given by Bakhshizada (talk · contribs) in the summary for c:File:İradə Mehri (Divanə - Album photo).jpg declares "I am an authorized representative, I also have all rights on behalf of this person, singer.", so there's a conflict of interest issue there to watch out for. Cabayi (talk) 12:08, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
Answer noted, thanks. Agree this is a conflicted article. Right after I posted here, I nominated User:Henanland page for speedy deletion, which went through as a much more clear-cut case of advertising/promotion. I point this out as an example of many of the speedies I template, and will continue in that direction. Cheers! Jusdafax (talk) 12:18, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Accounts Pavel Goncharuk/Павел Игоревич Гончарук

Hi Cabayi! Both of these accounts are mine. The second one I use on Russian Wiki. I would love to combine them (under accaunt Pavel Goncharuk), but I do not know how to do it correctly so that the data does not disappear. If you can tell me. Thank you in advance.--Pavel Goncharuk (talk) 14:03, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi Pavel Goncharuk, Павел Игоревич Гончарук,
I understand your intention to use one account on the Russian wiki and the other one here but, if you look at how you're actually using them:
you're not maintaining that distinction in reality. You've already edited Ivlia (ship) from both accounts which overlapped in time and would be enough to get you blocked with both accounts - WP:ILLEGIT.
Unfortunately it's not possible to merge accounts. I'd strongly urge you to pick one account to use, and to abandon the other completely, and to declare each account on the userpage of the other. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 15:43, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Contesting the Speedy Deletion for Mae Eleanor Frey article

Hi Cabayi - I am not sure why my article was deleted as I am a new editor with Wikipedia. The woman I wrote about has written 2 books, many articles, and published her own newspaper at one point. She has also been dead for a number of years. I provided all the citations that I thought was necessary. I am part of the 1000 Women in Religion Project and did not mean to post it 2 times. I didn't realize it was deleted the first time. Thanks for your help with this. Drdfulthorp (talk) 22:05, 16 April 2020 (UTC)DrDfulthorp

Hi Drdfulthorp, apart from a 25-or-so word introductory paragraph, the text of the deleted article looks looks almost identical to the draft at Draft:Mae Eleanor Frey: Early 20th Century Pentecostal Matriarch. The deleted article has the drawback that its footnote links are hardcoded to go to one of your user pages...
Traveling from coast to coast as well as abroad, she actively preached, pastored, traveled and authored religious novels until she passed away at 89 years old.[[User:Drdfulthorp/Mae Eleanor Frey#%20ftn2|[2]]]
so they'll all come up as red links. The references in the draft will also break if the page is moved, but at least they work where the page currently sits.
Traveling from coast to coast as well as abroad, she actively preached, pastored, traveled and authored religious novels until she passed away at 89 years old.[[Draft:Mae Eleanor Frey: Early 20th Century Pentecostal Matriarch#%20ftn2|[2]]]
You obviously know the correct way to use references, you've done so before here - Special:Diff/947355507, I don't understand your reluctance to repair the refs in this draft?
I left you a note at User talk:Drdfulthorp#Speedy deletion of Mae Eleanor Frey when the copy in article space was deleted, outlining what need to be fixed before the draft would be ready for review. You don't appear to have acted on any of that advice. It's really encouraging to note that it was time well spent on my part telling you what needed to be done. Cabayi (talk) 15:27, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi Cabayi, I apologize I did not see your help. I am still very new to Wikipedia. Although I started in October/November - I don't get on here very often. And I realized the e-mail that I set up was getting the talk notifications in my spam. The actual edits I've done to practice were all guided by someone either through a Wikipedia edit-a-thon session or through a Zoom session. I did not mean to offend you. I truly appreciate your advice -I just don't know where or how to access the advice that you mentioned, and it has been awhile since I did the reference, I cannot remember what I did. I truly am sending a heartfelt apology - I honestly, don't know what I'm doing yet... maybe one day I will catch on to Wikipedia. But I have a lot to learn! I'm not reluctant to make the repairs, I just need some time to figure out where you posted that, and how I can find it. I didn't even know that the article was deleted for a reason ... I thought that I accidentally deleted something myself. That was why I re-posted it. I'm not even sure if I'm doing this talk page correctly...?

Thanks for your consideration. Drdfulthorp (talk) 17:41, 17 April 2020 (UTC)DrDfulthorp

And honestly, the exchange here with you saying that I obviously ignored the edits makes me want to give up trying to use Wikipedia. I drafted that article, but wasn't quite sure how to post it or if it was connected to my name or what that all means. I think I will wait until later to pick this up again. I don't quite understand things yet. Sorry to have troubled you. Drdfulthorp (talk) 17:45, 17 April 2020 (UTC)DrDfulthorp

Drdfulthorp, I know how you feel. I spent 20 minutes or more putting together the advice thinking I was helping a new editor. Finding you hadn't read the content of your talk page was disheartening.
Not to put you off but, at 20 edits in 15 months, it's going to feel like a painful and very protracted learning curve. You may find WP:TWA a quicker way to get up to speed. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 19:34, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Re-open ANI

How do you reopen an ANI? Hullabaloo had made it clear he did not wish to argue to me and is Wikilaywering over the wording of the policy. He even deleted my comment replying to his comment. Tyw7, that's not something I've ever done. Adding fresh text outside the original discussion as you did looks safest to me. I'm sure someone will put it right if it's not acceptable. Cabayi (talk) 19:53, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

A Big Thank You!

Hi Cabayi, thank you declining your decision. I know I was temporary inactive and I was focused on COVID-19 related articles for some urgent editing whenever I am ready for editing. I know it wasn't my fault. I have defended my strong and good comments and I never vandalized or disrupt my editing. I was temporary inactive for some relaxation. And when I am ready to continue focusing on COVID-19 related articles for editing now is the time. So I will continue more edits on COVID-19, if I am ready to continue. So once again, thank you and I will continue to focus on COVID-19 related articles for editing and good luck to you. All the best. Have a good life. Bye bye. Steam5 (talk) 22:34, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Sockpuppet

I’m not a sockpuppet account. I have multiple accounts, as now declared due to being asked to make a new account. MarioDom is tagging irrelevant things because he or she has issues with users on a few Wikipedia pages. The IP address is simply from when I’m editing off my phone, and not logged in. Whodoeswhatnow (talk) 19:51, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

Would it be possible to assign my IP edits to my account? Whodoeswhatnow (talk) 08:57, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
Whodoeswhatnow, no, it's not possible. You could declare the connection on the IP's talk page, but what would be the point? The principal reasoning for having accounts is that your edits can't be tied to your IP and through that to your real world person, which can be risky in some parts of the world.
There are a few points I'd like you to consider...
  • If you declared which are your other accounts on your userpage it would remove the suspicion you're trying to hide something nefarious. I have such a declaration at the foot of my userpage - it's never been questioned.
  • Remember to log in on your phone.
  • Using multiple accounts is risky. It's way too easy to use the wrong account and make WP:ILLEGIT edits. Sooner or later you'll make a mistake which will be seen as deceptive and get both accounts blocked as a result.
Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 09:22, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

There is a declaration of my accounts on my page though... I did just that. Whodoeswhatnow (talk) 16:02, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Whodoeswhatnow, not quite. You've declared it's an alternative account but you make no mention of which other accounts you had/have. Cabayi (talk) 19:41, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Deletion of Northumbria Helicopters

Hello, Northumbria Helicopters is a the only helicopter flying school in the North East of England, we recently had the page restored which had been published for many years and were going to address some of the concerns as we are a genuine notable North East service with history of the much loved "Marky Mark" eye in the sky for Metro Radio. Please could you undelete and give us the opportunity to address the issue? Thank you, Charlie Hillmotts (talk) 23:16, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Hillmotts, It was deleted the first time through an uncontested PROD nomination as it was "Unreferenced article about non-notable company, which reads like an advert.". It was restored on request, and on the promise that the issues would be addressed. Yet no edits were made to it once it was restored.
The article was then discussed for a week and a decision was made to delete the article again.
The article contained a list of services, a list of aircraft, and a list of sister companies. There's nothing encyclopedic in that material. A search of the web shows nothing which would enable the creation of an article which would pass the requirements of WP:NCORP. I must decline your request. Cabayi (talk) 05:55, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello talk I appreciate it was restored and our club were going to make the necessary edits but we had to close due to the current virus crisis so when I had the chance to add the edits last week I found you had deleted the page again. I do apologise as we are not that familiar with the process but would appreciate your advice and the opportunity to record some North East history relating to Captain Marky Mark and Starburst 1 https://www.thefreelibrary.com/%27I+fell+in+love+with+the+North+East+and+its+people+as+soon+as+I...-a0191835650. Hopefully you will kindly consider our request to record this notable history and edit the page accordingly as we lost the opportunity due to no fault of our own. Kindest regards, Charlie Hillmotts —Preceding undated comment added 09:40, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Hillmotts, the article deleted was about Northumbria Helicopters and showed no prospect of passing the wiki's thresholds for articles about businesses - WP:NCORP. It was in no way a biography of "Marky Mark". If your best source for his biography is a piece in a local paper which he wrote himself then he's not likely to pass the threshold for biographies (WP:BIO) either. In any case, (if they were notable) they're two separate topics, and shouldn't be conflated into one article.
Your comment is peppered with we & our... Wikipedia accounts are for individual use only (WP:NOSHARING). Collaboration on-wiki is encouraged, but collaboration off-wiki may be seen as meatpuppetry. Please be careful. Cabayi (talk) 18:19, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: File:Shahkar Shah.jpg

Hello Cabayi, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of File:Shahkar Shah.jpg, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not an unambiguous copyright infringement. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 00:02, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

DeltaQuad, The image's metadata states "Author SAJJAD GOHAR", and it was uploaded and released by Shahkarshah who is clearly the subject of the photo Shahkar Shah (given his 4+ years of self-promotion on-wiki). I'm quite content with the validity of my nomination. Thank you, Cabayi (talk) 06:03, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
The area of F9 & F11 is a bit grey. It doesn't take into account anything about the uploaders' past wiki contributions. What i'm disputing here is the obvious/unambiguous aspect. Under F11, it says "Instances of obvious copyright violations where the uploader would have no reasonable expectation of obtaining permission [...] should be speedily deleted per reason F9". Because he's the photo subject, I'm sure there is a chance that copyright permission can be or has been obtained and just not put forward. I apologize for the newbie level message...it was a misclick in the script. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 07:17, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
DeltaQuad, I see where you're coming from. Thanks for the explanation. While I respect your rigour & opinion I remain convinced this effort is misapplied... c:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Shahkar Shah.jpg shows he's already uploaded it twice, once as Shahkarshah and again as Shahkars Architecture. Copyright was explicitly stated as the reason for its second deletion, on the same basis as I cited.
He's not engaged with any of the discussions at c:Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Shahkars Architecture so I wouldn't expect him to engage here either.
As a side point, I can live with the notion that it has some value as a honeypot. I don't think there's any way that the image can be used without tipping him over the edge of WP:NOTHERE self-promotion after his final warning. It may also induce him to extend his socking onto this wiki.
Keep well, Cabayi (talk) 08:35, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Shahkarshah, most of your images are on Wikimedia Commons. They may be yours, though you have offered no proof of it. In any case, Commons is not your personal photo album. Why are your images of encyclopedic interest?
The image of you which is stored on this wiki clearly states that it was taken by someone else. The default legal position is that they own the copyright and you may not upload it without their written consent.
As regards your contributions here, on the English Wikipedia, you've only written about yourself with no indication why you might be of encyclopedic interest. Most people aren't. Cabayi (talk) 18:31, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

The IP who keeps edit warring has reappeared. Would you mind re-extending the semi-protection and potentially finding a suitable range-block? Thanks, RandomCanadian (talk | contribs) 01:20, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

RandomCanadian, while I sympathise, and I share your distaste for an editor removing your post from my talk page, neither course of action seems viable.

MustaMob,
  1. You have a conflict of interest.
  2. The article deleted by Jimfbleak was a copyright violation. It's not going to be restored.
  3. You're using more than one account, MustaMob and Mustafa qaronni. You haven't answered the questions about that on either user's talk page.
  4. Your brother is not notable.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia which reports on things and people which are already notable. It's not our objective to help you publicise your brother.

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi Cabayi, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

I requested deletion of User:QuackGuru/Ziki since I recently posted it. I do not know what other subpage is required to be deleted. I have an essay I and others wrote a while back. Why would that have to be deleted? Is there clarification with arbcom that subpages of an editor who made edits before the case was over must be deleted following an arbcom close? SPI

The case just now was my first time going through SPI, so please let me know if I could've done anything better! Russ Woodroofe (talk) 11:21, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Russ Woodroofe, Oh my, an open invitation to let my inner pedant loose, this could be dangerous :-)
  • I liked that you kept it short and sweet with just the essential details to see the connection. Keeping it short is its own reward. Those reports are the ones on the queue that look like they'll be quick to handle, and often get chosen first.
  • You didn't request checkuser - good choice, the master and any previously identified socks are way too old for CU (90 days). If an SPI clerk sees the need for CU they're able to request it and self-endorse their request anyway.
  • "made about 10 contributions to AfDs to get autoconfirmed" - they hadn't done the 4 days for autoconfirmed. On the other hand I didn't know that once the editor reaches 10 edits the permission is queued up ready to go as soon as the 4 day mark is hit - xtools. That's my learning experience for today. Thanks for that.
  • The only thing which I'd like to have been better is the diff. You linked to [4]. You can keep the links as internal links by using Special:Permalink/902059569. Better still, link to the difference which shows what the user changed (since that's what we want to compare) [5], Special:Diff/902059569. It's easy to pick out the right number when you have a "&diff=prev&oldid=902059569" but when diff= a number rather than "prev", that's the number you want. Help:Diff explains it better than I can - years of using it and I still obsessively "Show preview" and check the links to make sure I get it right.
Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 12:12, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Postcard Cathy

I am very puzzled by the recent edits of user:Postcard Cathy. Those are not the edit some of a 14 year veteran with almost 150,000 edits. I have to tread carefully because, as you know, I'm just barely involved. Maybe not enough to justify doing nothing, but enough to justify treading carefully. My most charitable interpretation is perhaps the account has been compromised?--S Philbrick(Talk) 00:05, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Sphilbrick, I don't see any difference in Postcard Cathy's recent behaviour.
  • She's never been good at leaving edit summaries - xtools. {{uw-editsummary}}
  • She'e erratic in signing talk page posts. {{uw-tilde}}
  • She has the annoying habit of blanking posts on her talk page rather than archiving them - Help:Archive. Even to the point of doing it so fast (1,2, 82 secs) that it comes across as dismissive. While blanking is allowed it always leaves me feeling that the user is trying to conceal something - it makes me want to dig further, with a slightly diminished level of WP:AGF.
  • The copyright issue you raised recently is not the only instance. I get the impression (right or wrong) of someone creating articles based on copied text (a risky practice at the best of times) who occasionally hits "Publish changes" before the text has been sufficiently altered.
Cathy's attitude seems consistent with this post from 2014 - Special:Permalink/629858947#I am leaving. She wants to edit articles with minimal interaction with other wikipedians. And minimal consideration for the small differences that makes editing alongside them an easier proposition.
I'll go reread WP:Unblockables now. Cabayi (talk) 08:11, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Cabayi, Thanks for doing the research. I don't know whether it makes me feel better to know that this is consistent behavior. You may know that CopyPatrol identifies edits based on text that can be found at another locations, but doesn't have the ability to determine whether the other locations are properly licensed. When I see an item at CopyPatrol associated with an experienced editor, I tried to do a little extra digging to see if there's a reason for a false-positive. I didn't see such a reason in this particular instance, but it seemed incomprehensible that an altar with this amount of experience could be unaware of copyright issues, so I dropped a note. On occasion, the editor will point out a subtle reason why it was an acceptable edit but still flagged. I'm experimenting with voice recognition software, so my "as a highly experienced editor..." was transcribed as "is a highly experienced editor..." and I failed to correct the error. My wording was obviously wrong but the response surprised me. I'm happy to overlook the odd insult, but I remain troubled by the possibility that this 14 year veteran editor doesn't understand copyright. S Philbrick(Talk) 12:16, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Stop what you're doing wrt the multiple threats to block me on my talk page. For the record: first you make this edit[6] with a warning about personal attacks. Completely unnecessary, however, since the warning was already issued on the admins' noticeboard—itself multiple times—by User:Serial_Number_54129 and copied to my talk page—and now copied to his or hers as well. But, okay, great, duly noted. Warnings received. But then, without further provocation—right? No further mention of the user in question—you decide the time is right to escalate to a final warning. That's here[7].

As I said to Serial number: knock it off. You have the power to block folks. Great. The fact is, though, what you're doing by badgering me with redundant notices is disruptive and out of line. So stop? Whatever the case, I'm going to bed now. You guys should figure out what you actually stand for and what you actually want. (Hopefully it's (a) a high encyclopedia and (b) one derived from a process where people do what they say and policies matter.) -- C. A. Russell (talk) 11:29, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

For the record, C. A. Russell, I'm not an admin and I'm not sure whether it's a compliment or an insult to be confused with one  :) but, for the record, I was addressing you as an equal, editor-to-editor, and the balance of power was and remains equal between us. ((Non-administrator comment)) All the best, ——Serial # 11:33, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
I don't know where you think I called you an admin, and I've looked and am willing to accept that I'm wrong and made that mistake somewhere, but the mistake seems to be yours and that occurrence is as vaporous as the concrete set of rules you guys are actually operating under. If I'm not wrong, consider adding "suggesting demonstrably untrue things" to your list of things to stop doing. -- C. A. Russell (talk) 14:34, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
C. A. Russell there's no "buy one, get one free" deal on personal attacks. You did it once on Codename Lisa's page, and again on your own page. Your self revert on Lisa's page was undermined by linking to that revision on your own page. You forfeited any assumption of good faith and thoroughly earnt both cautions. Cabayi (talk) 11:41, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
If you're going to make disavowing comments like this, you're still constrained by facts.
There were no "both cautions'. There were in fact four, detailed above. (And why am I having to repeat this? I think the common problem is that you simply don't read.) Both of my edits that your warnings were targeted at were made more or less concurrently, hours before the first warning you issued. And once you'd issued that warning there was nothing more that transpired on my end between the time that you left the first warning and the time that you left the second "final" warning. Given that the target of both warnings were already well-aged, if there's a need for any warning on your end, let it be a single "final" warning and then be done with it, rather than pestering me multiple times by issuing your first[8] then waiting several minutes minutes only to add another[9] later. Once again: nothing relevant transpired in that time frame to merit a second warning, rather than a single warning with the severity of both. Secondly, as previously stated I had by that point already dealt with two warnings from User talk:Serial Number 54129 also much earlier. That is, your first warning was the third overall. That's one incident, four warnings. That's complete overkill. -- C. A. Russell (talk) 14:34, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
I think the common problem is that you simply don't read: the irony (presumed unintended) duly noted. ——Serial # 14:40, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
I await with bated breath the hints of what your mind has conjured up as an instance of irony. -- C. A. Russell (talk) 14:49, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
You are of course free to construct a narrative of your actions which shows you in the best light. I'm sure everybody does that. But please don't expect anybody else to see it that way.
You made two attacks on Codename Lisa and have two warnings on your talk page which is what will be seen and considered when considering a block. Other cautions on other pages are, as we all know, all but invisible when assessing someone's conduct.
I have no idea why you want to attack an editor who you apparently had some conflict five years ago and who left two years ago. The only person who stands to lose in this scenario is you. It would be truly exceptional for you to come off worse in a conflict with an editor who isn't even on the wiki any more.
I'd also note that all your responses have been procedural gripes. No apology on User talk:Codename Lisa?
I'm still quite content with the number of cautions you've received and, despite your fear that I "have the power to block folks" I haven't and consider myself too WP:INVOLVED to do so. That won't stop me from acting as a concerned editor and requesting further action if you should make it necessary. Cabayi (talk) 15:15, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
In re I'd also note that all your responses have been procedural gripes. No apology on User talk:Codename Lisa?: huh?
Count the two edits as two attacks if you want. The warning count is still not two. One copy on the administrators' noticeboard, three warnings across the talk pages—very definitely not two. -- C. A. Russell (talk) 15:28, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

This edit needs redacting. (See inline copy of now-removed edit summary.) -- C. A. Russell (talk) 15:22, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

NB: Copied here as well. -- C. A. Russell (talk) 15:37, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

C. A. Russell, that's not necessary. That diff is only viewable by admins. El_C 21:43, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
El_C, one half of the reason the diff was removed was for its edit summary. (Its edit summary succinctly repeats the offending part from the content of the edit.) That summary was copied to multiple pages, though, before the edit itself was removed. Those edits where those copies were introduced (given in the links above) have been partially neutered, but not fully redacted and have not been disappeared from the page histories. -- C. A. Russell (talk) 21:53, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Okay, I redacted it where it is still visible. El_C 22:02, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

Re: Lisa Von Tang page

Hi Cabayi. I actually wrote the article independently without anyone's help. Morningsunshine had a shot at writing about Lisa Von Tang, but her version was rejected. So I took over and revamped the entire page. Please do not delete my newer Lisa Von Tang page. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ireallyreallylikewriting (talkcontribs) 12:29, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

So that would be an admission to the "or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia" part of the caution? Cabayi (talk) 12:38, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

No, Morningsunshine seems to be another fan of Lisa Von Tang. I don't know her (or maybe him) but I noticed they tried to write about the fashion label but failed. I'm now trying for the fun of it because I really really like writing. I've just been observing the fashion label from afar. Have not even bought anything from them, let alone getting paid! There's no COI involved. Could you please help me remove the Speedy Deletion tag? It took me a lot of hard work putting the article together :( Thank you. Best, Ireallyreallylike writing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ireallyreallylikewriting (talkcontribs) 12:55, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Ireallyreallylikewriting, what Speedy Deletion tag? There isn't one I can see on any variation of the article that you've edited under this account.
Why did you ask the same of Justanothersgwikieditor? They've not interacted with you or any version of the article that you've edited under this account.
Despite denying a connection to Morningsunshine you seem determined to prove that you are in fact editing in collaboration. Do you want to reconsider your denial? Cabayi (talk) 13:50, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Cabayi, Cabayi (talk) I became aware of Morningsunshine's draft of the article when I first tried writing my own. Previously I noticed that Morningsunshine's article had a Speedy Deletion tag on it, and then after a short while it got deleted. I can understand why, because Morningsunshine's version was quite a mess. It had no sub-headings, etc. And she was accused of having a financial stake in the article. None of this applies to me, so I just want to make sure my hard work in writing the article doesn't get deleted and go to waste. I'm new to Wikipedia editing! Thank you! Ireallyreallylikewriting (talk) 01:54, 17 July 2020 (UTC)Ireallyreallylikewriting

Ireallyreallylikewriting as per my quick msg on my talkpage, please consolidate any discussion on a single location, not all over 2 talkpages. --Ju,stanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:40, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
Cabayi: Likely both editors are the same person as the original page was CSD by me and subsequently deleted. The original draft was deleted after 6 months inactivity which I believed is the same as the deleted page. Ireallyreallylikewriting was created after both page and draft are deleted, and likely while writing as Ireallyreallylikewriting, editor is still thinking as Morningshanshine who has seen the speedy deletion tag. Of course SPI will be more conclusive. --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:40, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

ORCA/TEBDF

Hi Cabayi, you recently deleted the page TEBDF because of unambiguous copyright infringement. I am recreating that page so I would like to know that should I take my data from a single source or from multiple sources? User070510 (talk) 14:20, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

User070510, there's never been a page TEBDF. There were two pages Draft:ORCA / TEDBF and Draft:HAL ORCA created by WIKI USER RAGHUNANDAN (talk · contribs) and their sockpuppet RAGHUNANDAN BALAKRISHNA S (talk · contribs). May I ask what's your connection to those two accounts? Cabayi (talk) 14:46, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
I fail understand what do you mean by "what's your connection to those two accounts". Waiting for your reply. User070510 (talk) 15:07, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
It's almost impossible to simplify the question. The topic was recently written about by WIKI USER RAGHUNANDAN and RAGHUNANDAN BALAKRISHNA S. What is your connection to them? Cabayi (talk) 09:21, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
What? Are you saying that you believe I am a sockpuppet of WIKI USER RAGHUNANDAN? I just edited a page that he created. If you think that is enough for a user to have some kind of connection then I believe that you should ask the same question to yourself. User070510 (talk) 09:35, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
I don't yet believe, but there's enough coincidence in 3 new users pushing the same article to at least ask the question of a new user who has been blocked once and has already got another final warning.
To your original question - Help:Your first article. Cabayi (talk) 09:53, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

On discussion on Talk:quantum radar

Dear Cabayi, Thanks for all of your help with the quantum radar page and associated discussions. I apologize for all of the time it has taken to resolve the various matters. I have corresponded with spirandola by private email and he has requested "Can you strike through the entire text, including my comments pls? So we are hoping that the related discussions on Talk:quantum radar can eventually be removed. If you could help us with this, we would really appreciate. Again, our apologies for all of the time that this has taken. Mwilde (talk) 10:27, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi there. I see you have reverted my speedy deletion nomination for User:NineteenMediaGroup with the edit summary "disclosure should be kept, definitely not U5 mterial" - but you may not have observed the following:

  • The user is indef blocked for an improper username, and
  • The COI disclosure is bogus, as it merely lists a redlink, so it discloses nothing.

Seeing as the page is useless in every way, I ask you to restore the speedy deletion notice, or, failing that, advise me on what steps I should take to remove this artifact from the 'pedia. I'd prefer not to have to file at Mfd if possible. Thanks for your time. Jusdafax (talk) 08:05, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Jusdafax, being blocked is not sufficient reason, under any criteria, to justify deletion of prior edits. A COI declaration is not an improper use of a userpage. It's your right to MfD if you wish but this is not a valid U5 nomination. Cabayi (talk) 09:02, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
OK. What speedy nom category would you suggest? Jusdafax (talk) 09:08, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Jusdafax, I don't suggest any CSD. The page is useful to show a pattern when Gomer's publicist next tries to use Wikipedia to promote him.
While you're here, one of your other U5s yesterday contained a claim to be a 12yo child. Please report them for WP:OVERSIGHT when you come across under-13s disclosing any personal info. Thanks, Cabayi (talk) 09:14, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

re CU policy

Hey, thanks for dealing with that IP just now - appreciated :)

I didn't want to continue discussion there on something that's not really related, but if an IP actively consents to a CheckUser being performed, and there is a credible suspicion of sockpuppetry for which a CU would be helpful if it had not been an IP involved, is it still verboten for a CU to perform the check? I'm aware of the thing about "no CUs on request", but I saw that more as a way of dealing with The disclosure of actual checkuser data (such as IP addresses) is subject to the privacy policy, which requires that identifying information not be disclosed except under the following circumstances [...] With the permission of the affected user, from Wikipedia:CheckUser § CheckUser and the privacy policy. Clearly, the IP of the other account couldn't be disclosed if it was different, but if it turned out to be the same IP, then given that the IP had expressly consented, I would have thought that would have fallen under that.

This is mostly out of interest at this point, but it might be useful at some point in the future to know

Cheers! Naypta ☺ | ✉ talk page | 16:14, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Naypta, I think you need to look at it from another angle. It's not hard to change your kit & IP, and a user asking you to use CU has probably prepared to be checked. What would CU disprove?
Also, bear in mind the consequences for CUs of conducting checks on the edge of what's permitted - Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Noticeboard#Revocation of CheckUser access for Bbb23.
m:Help:CheckUser has more info. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 17:16, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
@Cabayi: Thanks for the reply! Clearly, CU can't really disprove anything - "this is a different IP and UA" doesn't mean anything at all in terms of identity. That was exactly what I was trying to explain to the user on the page, though; they could go through the CU process, but it probably wouldn't be a great deal of use, apart from from our perspective, in that it might make a positive confirmation.
I'm aware of the Arbcom decision - I posted on the discussion thread it's about - but equally, to my knowledge, the "on the edge of what's permitted" thing in the case of Bbb23 didn't involve users who'd consented to undergoing the process. It feels a bit of a weird restriction from that perspective, but I definitely get the point about it perhaps not being hugely useful either way!
Either way, once again, thanks very much for dealing with the original SPI and the unblock - your admin work is really useful for the community, please know your mopping is appreciated Naypta ☺ | ✉ talk page | 17:26, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, someone seems to have an issue with the tabs thing on the gubernatorial elections page. Going through the page history it seems to be a fix for prior accessibility issues, but this IP user thinks your system violates the rules. Also mentioned something about another user being a blocked sockpuppet, not really sure. Could you maybe explain that it doesn’t violate the accessibility rules on the talk page? Hey I am new to wikipedia I've never used it past reading articles, you recently deleted a large portion of a page me and a friend worked really hard on and sourced properly i'd just like an explanation it means a lot to us and wikipedia is very confusing, so im sorry if this isnt the right place to do this but i found no other way to contact you. Please email me Greedocity@gmail.com thank you. the page in question is this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23rd_New_York_Volunteer_Infantry_Regiment where my friends good edits were deleted for seemingly no reason and a troll's edits were kept. I just want to know why Greedocity (talk) 07:21, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Greedocity, I'll answer here rather than by email since there's nothing which needs to be kept private.
I removed two chunks of text from 23rd New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment which were copied from other websites in violation of their copyright, and deleted the revisions which included that copyright violation.
Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 08:35, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

COI username

Thanks for your comment here. I've been coming across a lot of users lately adding content about themselves to articles, using their real name as a username. I'm never sure what to do. Should I just tag their talk page with a COI notice, and report them if it continues? Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 09:43, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Magnolia677, it all depends on the extent and the persistence of the edits. A {{uw-coi}},{{uw-autobiography}} or {{uw-hijacking}} caution may be all that is required. If the problem persists then a progression through {{uw-advert2}}, {{uw-advert3}} & {{uw-advert2}} may be needed. Page protection will help, but the editor needs to have been persistent before it'll be given.
It's not uncommon for the user to "resolve" their conflict of interest by creating a new account to re-add the same material, adding WP:SOCK issues to the WP:COI.
If the person really is notable there may be impersonation issues to take to WP:UAA.
(TL;DR): You're on the right track and there are plenty of other tools in the toolbox depending on what you see.
Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 13:40, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 16:22, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

How serious were you in suggesting I volunteer for OTRS...

Were you serious in suggesting I volunteer for OTRS in this comment?

Did you mean to claw back your suggestion after you searched for me, because you decided I was unsuitable, or would not be approved for other reasons? If your answer is yes, I won't ask for an explanation.

If you were serious, and are still serious, I will give applying serious thought.

The committee deals with confidential matters. Are applications also confidential? Are applications turned down for reasons that were discussed privately, and not shared with the applicant?

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 16:31, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

Geo Swan, I was primarily making the point that the overtones of censorship were unfounded since you, and everybody else, has been free to volunteer for OTRS at any point in the 11 years the ticket's been there. On reflection I see the hints of censorship came from the discussion's title rather than any comment of yours. It struck me as strange that you were, on 2 boards, pursuing decade old questions.
Stepping back from those discussions, yes I think you would be a good addition to the team. Long wiki-experience, unblemished block log, off-wiki experience of confidential issues, responsive on your talkpage, active cross-wiki, and attuned to the question of what should be handled confidentially at OTRS and when to tell people to request on-wiki to preserve accountability... what's not to like.
The process is open - it's at m:OTRS/Volunteering and, for an example, my request is at m:Special:Permalink/19854436#Cabayi. There are places where you can ask further questions (from people who have more of a clue than me).
I wouldn't characterise it as a committee - it's a helpdesk where emails are handled by whoever feels able and willing - like Category:Wikipedians looking for help is for {{Help me}} requests or User:AnomieBOT/SPERTable for edit requests, but with a little more structure and the software to help collaboration on a response.
Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 20:18, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

Why did you remove my edit on Peru national futsal team's page?

Peru has never won the Copa América de Futsal and let alone 10 times?

Could you back up your source? The information was wrong to begin with.

I'm actually personally offended and do feel that your comments were not neutral. Established Christian NGOs or news outlets are not reliable? I'm not trying to open up a can of worms here, but I do want to make a point, as I see numerous NGOs cited across Wikipedia articles, in the LGBT article you have PinkNews and the The Advocate cited as a reference (issue specific news magazines that are also engaged in advocacy), also numerous news outlets reference Trump's tweets or those of other politicians. --E-960 (talk) 15:32, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

KDI Central Library

Hello dear

You removed my article on KDI Central Library's page because of copyright

But, I am a librarian for KDI Central Library

I just copy that introduce text from my library's website and i thought my article would be fine because i noticed that i have a conflict of interest about this article on userbox

I want to introduce my library on wikipedia. Please restore my article on KDI Central Library, if this article is a problem, I will fix it.

thanks.

{{UserboxCOI|KDI Central Library}} -- — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thehinse (talkcontribs) 04:30, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

The fact that you are a librarian for KDI Central Library does not override the library's copyright in its website text, nor the photograper's copyright in the images. Please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials but remember that text which may be appropriate on the library's own website is not likely to have the tone required of an encyclopedia article. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 06:31, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
I wrote the introduction from library's website. and The image is also I took that used article.i just incorrectly entered copyright information about picture. i want to restore my article in my sandbox. I am trying to write again in compliance with the wikipedia copyright regulations. without that sandbox's text, i have to rewrite everything completely instead of modifying some incorrectly content. --Thehinse (talk) 07:08, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Thehinse, I have emailed you a copy of the deleted version of the article for you to work on. Please remember that you should not save a version with the copyright infringement anywhere on Wikipedia. You need to clean it up before re-uploading. Happy editing, Cabayi (talk) 07:17, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Double reporting

Sir, regarding this. I was not reporting twice, but something technical happened, likely because of twinkle. In articles, sometimes the thing freezes, and when it completes, I get edit conflict because of two edits back to back. That's why I keep it disabled and enable it only when reporting. I hope you understand. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:05, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

Fylindfotberserk, it's comforting to know that I'm not the only one to get tripped up by the tools. Happy editing. Cabayi (talk) 17:08, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Not to waste your time sir. But I'd like to share that before my break of 4-months I used to open 40-pages at a time and work on them simultaneously without any problem. Now, opening 10 pages causes breakdowns. I keep twinkle disabled, but the speed is nowhere near the original. Do I have to report it somewhere? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:21, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
All I can suggest is the standard stuff...
  • Is it the browser? Have you tried another, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Opera?
  • Is it the size of internet cache? Have you cleared the temporary files lately?
  • Is your disk getting full?
  • If you're on Win 10, is there an upgrade pending that needs a reboot?
Sorry I've not got any better ideas, Cabayi (talk) 17:39, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
I've to check another browser. Rest of the things are taken care off and I use Win 8.1. Now I use Chrome exclusively, because for some reason I can't login into IE, which previously was my main browser for Wikipedia (Chrome used only for reFill tool). Thanks sir, thanks for the time and suggestions. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:50, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Fylindfotberserk, I'm on Win 10 and mostly using Firefox but for the last couple of weeks Edge has been pushing itself quite aggressively - starting Edge automatically, importing add-ons from Firefox, offering itself as a new default browser, and generally butting in where it's not wanted. It might be related. Cabayi (talk) 20:20, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Might be. It came as part of an update package for 8.1 in June I believe. I uninstalled it because of similar problems. I'd give Firefox a try. Had good experience with it many years back through. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 20:33, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

Revised Draft Upload Question

Hello,

I have reviewed your comments regarding copyright on this submission. I have made several edits including removing and rewriting any copyrighted material and removing the copyrighted pictures you mentioned here. I also made sure the article linked to verified third party sources.

The message on the drafted page says that I should contact you before uploading again. Could you please tell me the next steps for uploading my draft?

Thank you!

JessMessenger (talk) 19:28, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

JessMessenger,
  • Ensure your draft meets the requirements of WP:NORG.
  • Don't deceive yourself - its parent organisation ISSA doesn't have an article - why is GBAC more notable than its parent?
  • On a personal level I'm unwilling to do for free the work you're being paid for. Other editors may be more accommodating.
  • Draft:Global Biorisk Advisory Council is the place to do it, add the following at the top of the page:
{{subst:AFC draft|JessMessenger}}

Request

Hello Cabayi, thank you for being so fast (deleting drafts eligible for G11). Well I made a request at WT: AFCP and it has been almost a week since no one has ever attended those requests. I have been patrolling the AFC drafts and I have found a lot of drafts which should be declined on sight because they are against Wikipedia’s purpose I.e pure advertising. I am therefore requesting if you could add my name to the AFC list so that I may be able to have access to the script. Best regards Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 13:20, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Question before upload draft again

Hello, Cabayi

I revised draft for 'KDI Central Library' in my sandbox. I did remove and rewrite any copyrighted materials. I show that the message on the drafted page says that I should contact you before uploading again. Can you tell me please what to do next steps for uploading my draft?

Thank you.

Did they really abuse the email function that you have revoked it? The block modification goes from 1 block parameter to 3 block parameters in 1 go. --94.73.33.144 (talk) 20:45, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

The intent is to prevent Goofdawg (talk · contribs) making personal attacks, not to slightly restrict their means of making them. Cabayi (talk) 08:21, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Email abuse from this user; yes or no? This is all I am asking. I am concerned that they could have lost privelege without either without evidence or abuse. --94.73.33.144 (talk) 08:46, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

The editor who was attacked did not (so far as I'm aware) complain of any. Cabayi (talk) 08:55, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Why haven't you said a thing regarding email access revocation when you have revoked this privelege for this user? --94.73.33.144 (talk) 15:00, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

I refer you to my first answer. Cabayi (talk) 18:46, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

And if they blocked from this option without evidence of abuse, how about they get it back. --94.73.33.144 (talk) 18:55, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Again, I refer you to my first answer. Cabayi (talk) 18:59, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Why? I don't why is the first answer and nothing else. --94.73.33.144 (talk) 20:35, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Because you haven't asked anything which is not covered by the first answer. The purpose of the block is to prevent Goofdawg making further personal attacks - whether on-wiki or off-wiki. You're taking an excessive interest in this block, are you Goofdawg? Cabayi (talk) 20:40, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Is offwiki abuse taken as seriously as onwiki abuse? I should know this, no joke. --94.73.33.144 (talk) 20:43, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Are you Goofdawg? Cabayi (talk) 20:49, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

No, I am not this user at all. I am only here discussing them because I have a concern that they have lost email access without evidence of abuse or without abuse at all. They have just engaged in personal attacks on their talk page as far as I can see. --94.73.33.144 (talk) 20:54, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Priyansh Jadhav

Hi Cabayi, regarding this comment: I generally open "redundant" SPI cases for users focusing their at edits on en.wiki for several reasons: a) because en.wiki is the focus, there are often additional (sleeper and active) accounts here than have not attached or edited on Commons and thus have not been detected by me (e.g. [10]); b) it promotes awareness of the issue which assists in future detection; c) relatedly, use of the CU mailing-list, my alternative, results in CU blocks appearing "out of the blue" which complicates or prevents future investigations; and d) in the past, may experience has been that, even when there are confirmed results on Common, en.wiki admins are reluctant to act without a local determination. If I should nevertheless discontinue opening en.wiki SPIs, please let me know. Эlcobbola talk 15:11, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

elcobbola, thanks for explaining, I understand now. I was acting on the idea that a global lock would take it out of the hands of local admins and serve for all the wikis. In hindsight, yes, a report here is useful, and I thank you for it.
It looks like the Stewards are on fire today, the locks are in place already. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 16:16, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

Clearification on the recent block

Well done sir. I noticed that some few minutes ago I have been blocked from editing by you and the reason given is not cleared. You or the software connected me with an illigal editor whom I never know. It is my habit as a new editor to quickly check who edits the recent page I have edited to see wether the person is making useful edit or I did wrong, which I start by knowing who the editor is, I used to check the editors's profiles to know who they are, by doing so I have violated wikipidia policy? You can go through all my contributions and see if I deserve what you have done to me. I am very careful with rules and regulations of wikipidia as a new user and I have never been connected to any body that I edits article or cleate article for. I never promote or advertise any company or person. If you check up most of my Contributions center on clearing up promotional contents and advertisement on Wikipedia. Please, kindly explain to me your mind over the action you have done. Abubakar Balarabe (talk) 14:55, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Abubakar Balarabe, I can't see any block on your account. What message are you getting? Cabayi (talk) 15:02, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Hm! You unblocked me that is why i messaged you. I don't know weather it was a mistake that you did while using the software. Some days a go i updated some informations on Moshood Abiola and it is my habit some times to put any page I edited to my watch list, this enables me to know weather my corrections if an experienced editors edit the page. It was yesterday that I noticed an edi from the mentioned page,I then quickly went to check who edited the work and noticed that was a suspected editor using a company's name. On the account of checking his talk page and profile, your software blocked me from editing for 21h, i spent almost 30m and noticed that i have been unblocked. And you were the one who did that,That is why i contacted you to know weather it was a mistake or something else. Abubakar Balarabe (talk) 15:29, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

You can check the history of your blocked users and confirm that. I know that Wikipidia does everything with reasons. Abubakar Balarabe (talk) 15:32, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Abubakar Balarabe, as I linked above there are no blocks, past or current, on your block log. If I blocked you it must have been under a different account. Which account was it? Cabayi (talk) 15:42, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Abubakar Balarabe is the only account of mine, I am responsible person, it is illegal person who operates multiple accounts and it is against the policy. May be it was a mistake that you did while using the software. You really blocked me for some minutes. Abubakar Balarabe (talk) 15:49, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Abubakar Balarabe, please provide links to any log, page history, or any other evidence showing this alleged block. Other than your posts on this page in the last 70 minutes, we have never interacted. Cabayi (talk) 16:03, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

It is not an allege sir, I am a new user and i wanted to know my mistake. But I have no any evidence to show you. I am very sorry if you are not happy. Abubakar Balarabe (talk) 16:06, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Since I have no any thing to show you. I am very sorry for asking you. Thank you very much for your time sir. Abubakar Balarabe (talk) 16:15, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

I am very sorry for saying that you blocked me, I noticed that it was something else that i saw,i was very confused by then. I declared that you didn't do anything to me,thank you very much sir. Abubakar Balarabe (talk) 16:57, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Your opinion?

Hi. I recently closed this edit warring complaint about an IP, who seems to be globally blocked, and may be Manda 1993 based on behavior. You are one of the people who commented in the Manda 1993 SPI case. If this IP actually is Manda 1993, can you think of anything else useful that could be done? The IP blocks given by other admins are no longer than a month. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 14:38, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

EdJohnston, the IP's contributions on ms: on 16 Oct look like Manda 1993's favoured topic area, and the vandalism on User:Danu Widjajanto/Vandal Langsa Log is certainly a strong indicator that it's Manda. I'm sorry that I don't have any deeper personal insight into this case. It looks like we're just going to have to wait for him to get bored of being reverted on sight across multiple wikis.
Congratulations on your well-deserved elevation. Cabayi (talk) 16:34, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. As you may know I'm not one of the most frequent admins at SPI, so I will have some learning curve. Maybe I can sometimes send you email if I find a situation confusing? EdJohnston (talk) 17:44, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
Always happy to help. Cabayi (talk) 19:50, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi, you deleted my article before I could contest it

The reason why my page was deleted was that apparently, it was copied from https://eidain.com/kurulus-osman/. However, I didn't copy it from that page but that page copied it from an older version of the 'Cast and characters' section on the article,Kuruluş: Osman, on Wikipedia. Here is proof: https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Kurulu%C5%9F:_Osman&oldid=984825354#Cast_and_characters. What should I do? Limorina (talk) 14:41, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

My apologies Limorina. Looking closer it's apparent that the eidain.com page was copied from Wikipedia. I've restored the page to draft. Please let an experienced reviewer do the review and promotion to mainspace rather than doing it yourself. Cabayi (talk) 14:44, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Question

Hello C. Re this. I've been adding spamuser speedy to talk pages for years and never had one declined before. The page also contains personal info which also gets r/d in my experience. Has something changed when a talk page is used solely for promotional purposes? Enjoy your Halloween. MarnetteD|Talk 08:23, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

MarnetteD - thanks for the message. I can't find it in policy at the moment. So far as I can recall I had a similar request refused years ago and never went there again. I've always gone down the route of blanking the spam (as Eostrix did) and adding a big flowery welcome like {{Welcome to Wikipedia}} which usually deters the user from reverting to their spam version.
At the point where you considered it (Special:Permalink/986342636), the page was already blanked - so its spamminess was already muted and the case for G11 marginal.
At the point where I encountered it (Special:Permalink/986342832), the page contained the userblock notice and was well beyond the point where a G11 deletion was practical. When considering the order in which the tasks are tackled, stopping the creation of new dreck (by blocking the user) will always be a higher priority than clearing up the dreck that's already there (handling their CSDs). As a practical assessment, a user that spammy is most likely going to be blocked before all the CSDs relating to their activity are considered.
On the question of r/d - I don't see an advert from a business being personal info - even if that business is just one guy trying desperately to project himself as a bigger business than he is. I may be an outlier in my opinion on this, and you're welcome to shop around for a second opinion if you wish.
Thanks for giving me the push to line up my thoughts on this. Cabayi (talk) 09:59, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. The email address looks to be personal info rather than a link to a company website. There are three edits before my G11 so I'm not how that is beyond a point where r/d is practical so there is no collateral damage. Still I do understand where you are coming from. No trick or treaters this year means more candy for me - burp :-) MarnetteD|Talk 16:25, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
There's no email address, just an @username with no pointer to which social media site it may belong... if he's trying to advertise his PR skillz he's failing. Look on the bright side about Halloween - no need for an expensive costume this year - a well-timed cough is all the scary you need ;-) Cabayi (talk) 18:53, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for clearing up my misreading of that :-) MarnetteD|Talk 19:05, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi again. I did start this thread Wikipedia talk:Revision deletion#Looking for a second opinion. I know you'll have seen the ping but I wanted to followup on your talk page. I don't know if there is a better place to ask but I certainly wanted to avoid the drama boards of AN or ANI as we are both just trying to get clarification of things. Regards. MarnetteD|Talk 16:57, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
  • 2 cents, I have placed G12s and G5s which were accepted for user talk pages. Also if it is oversightable (like a DOB of a minor), but that goes via oversight (via email). But my understanding is that normal G11s (vanilla promos) are usually not deleted. --Eostrix  (🦉 hoot hoot🦉) 19:14, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for adding your experience Eostrix. It doesn't matter how long I've edited here there are awlays new things to learn. MarnetteD|Talk 19:41, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks

Cabayi, I just wanted to thank you for the work you do for our community and for putting yourself out there as part of the CUOS process. I hope you have some positives to take away from the experience. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 14:23, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks Barkeep49. The outcome was pretty much what I expected given the timing, coming just 6 months after my RfA, But when the process only comes around once a year, and there's no sneaky-peek at who the other candidates might be, I felt it was a "If not me, who? If not now, when?" situation.
While we're sharing the love, I'd like to reflect the appreciation. NPR looks a far more collaborative and encouraging environment than it was back-in-the-day when it was my base activity under, um, previous management. Be well, Cabayi (talk) 15:04, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I supported you on the functionaries list. Hope to see you among the candidates next September. Mz7 (talk) 18:10, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
It's unfortunate that I was away for most of the process, I'd have been glad to support you in the consultation. --qedk (t c) 20:48, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi is it possible to get the text of my article back please

Hi you deleted my page Draft:MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. Would it be possible to get the content back please? I have permission to use the text from the other website and there is also a lot of text in the article that was new, which would take a lot of time to recreate. Many thanks. Jojdavies (talk) 10:13, 2 November 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jojdavies (talkcontribs) 09:52, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Jojdavies, it's not possible to restore your draft to the wiki as it's a copyright violation. If you have permission then read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials, though you should bear in mind that material written for another platform (especially their own website) may not have the encyclopedic tone Wikipedia requires. I'll email you a copy of the last version. Cabayi (talk) 10:01, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Thanks Cabayi for sending that to me so quickly - I really appreciate it Jojdavies (talk) 10:13, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Sockpuppet update needed

Please can you remove the red notification from Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Stho002/Archive#Clerk, CheckUser, and/or patrolling admin comments 4? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:02, 5 November 2020 (UTC)

Pigsonthewing, why?
I did ask about tidying up the tags when I finished my traineeship and was told to leave them. The SPI archives are well embellished with trainee clerk tags. Cabayi (talk) 10:08, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
Are you still reviewing the case? If not, the statement is false. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:26, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
Pigsonthewing, this appears to be a matter of the conduct of the SPI training process rather than just one specific tag. I'm not averse to the idea of changing the wording of User:Cabayi/ClerkAtWork from
This case is being reviewed by Cabayi as part of the clerk training process. Please allow Cabayi to process the entire case without interference, and pose any questions or concerns either on Cabayi's Talk page or on this page if more appropriate.
to something like
This case was handled by Cabayi as part of the clerk training process.
and substing it away to reflect the fact that my training is now complete. BUT... that needs to be a question for the SPI training process and the Checkusers who run it, not just one isolated usage. I'd suggest Wikipedia talk:Sockpuppet investigations/SPI/Clerks as an approriate venue for that discussion. Cabayi (talk) 10:58, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
Fair enough; thanks. Please see Wikipedia talk:Sockpuppet investigations/SPI/Clerks#Labelling of old cases. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:08, 5 November 2020 (UTC)

Deleted page "Fatima Cody Stanford" deleted in error

After just logging in for the first time in a while, I realize that my first project that was approved in February 2019 was INCORRECTLY taken down for copyright infringement. The pages that were referenced were created AFTER my page was created for Dr. Stanford. You can see the dates for the pages noted were after: https://advances.massgeneral.org/contributors/contributor.aspx?id=1316 AND https://www.pri-med.com/globals/faculty/s/stanford-fatima%20cody

Please let me know how we can reinstate this deleted page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sebdubois77 (talkcontribs) 07:22, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Sebdubois77, I see no dates on those pages which would allow me to make the assumption that they copied from your article. Maybe they all shared a common root in the article you cited in your first version - but that's now a 404 error page. Some of the copyvio is obviously a false positive arising from the painfully long job titles, but even allowing for that there's are enough pieces of WP:PEACOCK fluff which show the texts had a common root.
I'm happy to email you a copy so that you can work on it until it's sufficiently cleaned up - but I can't restore material I believe to be copyvio onto the wiki. You'll need to add an email address to your account at Special:Preferences for that to be possible. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 09:56, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks very much for this. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 13:29, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Deletion review is the forum you need. Cabayi (talk) 08:59, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Please restore the Draft:En Shao page. I had emailed his agency to ask for permission to use his portrait; the Draft had been resubmitted for publication and you've deleted it. I will remove the photo if that is the problem but I have put days of work into this and for it to disappear without the ability to access it is not what is meant to happen.

Germsteel (talk) 06:59, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Germsteel, the problem did not relate to images but to the text, which was a clear copyright violation of imgartists.com. Wikipedia cannot host copyright violating material and so I'm unable to restore the draft. I'll email you a copy for you to work on. Please do not reupload it to the wiki while it still has copyright problems. Cabayi (talk) 09:47, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Cabayi, thank you for the quick response. Is the edit history available to look at? I think I added to pre-existing text. As it stands your deletion was the correct action. I will rework the article and resubmit. Thank you. Germsteel (talk) 11:42, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Germsteel, I've emailed you the second revision of the draft which was the largest addition of text (including the source text's "Read less" button). The other edits appear to be incremental but the lack of edit summaries makes it hard to tell. Cabayi (talk) 12:13, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

How did you know that this user is BMX On WheeIs? --77.123.100.211 (talk) 21:16, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

Why do you ask? You've been editing for aboiut 8 hours, all of it focussed on EOLE? Cabayi (talk) 09:31, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

As you insist in Meta that they are BMX On WheeIs, I decided to revert all edits of theirs that I can. --77.123.100.211 (talk) 12:35, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

I'm touched that you have enough faith in my judgement to act on it, but it's probably safest that you know why you're doing something before doing it. Cabayi (talk) 13:05, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

I actually got how you knew this is BMX On WheeIs, this. --77.123.100.211 (talk) 13:36, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

No, though it confirms what I thought, and I've added it to the lock request on meta. There's a link in the original lock request that will take you to a page that tells you you're "Unauthorized". I'm sure you can guess, in vague terms, what it contains. Cabayi (talk) 13:47, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Stale SPI

Hello. I see that you've marked a recent SPI as stale. It did take me about 90 minutes to notice and report the edits which led me to connect the accounts, and I realise that admins are not always available to review reports immediately. If a similar case arises in future, is there anything I can do to raise the matter more quickly before it becomes stale, or should I be leaving such work to those who specialise in this area? Certes (talk) 17:41, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, Certes, sorry about that. Blocks are supposed to be preventative, not punitive - and if the IPs are no longer in use, there's nothing to prevent, and not a lot we can do. Had you just reported Special:Contributions/93.193.173.8 as a block-evading sock of Broter (talk · contribs) (so the clerk's tools didn't flag up the stale IPs) it may have seemed more of an easy-win and been picked off the list sooner. On the other hand, without the other IPs there would be little to show that Broder habitually uses IPs. With your report now in the archive there will now be a trail showing that Broter is likely using IPs, which will buttress the next report of a Broter IP.
Often IPs are fixated on one article, in which case page protection is a useful avenue, but in this case the IP's focus is on anything LDS, which doesn't lend itself to page protection.
Again, I'm sorry I can't be more upbeat or helpful in this case, though your legwork in making the initial connections will prove helpful the next time Broder reappears, and for that I thank you. Cabayi (talk) 19:47, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. What's the best place to take any further cases? I don't think AIV would (or should) intervene, as the edits are not WP:vandalism in the term-of-art WP sense. Certes (talk) 19:53, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
It all depends on what you see Certes. I think SPI was right for this one despite its shortcomings. If you see a single IP on multiple pages, WP:SPI. Multiple IPs on a single page, WP:RFPP. WP:AIV has its place in the toolbox too. Cabayi (talk) 21:35, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Question

Hi Cabayi, hope you are fine. I want to ask you something. A user asked me on my talk page that they want their article but I explained him that autobiography is discouraged. Then I suggested them to create a user page instead of article and I'd help them. They created their user page. I also fixed some mistakes. I do think that he/she declares him/herself to be a famous celebrity or tiktoker. I don't know whether it was right to help such a user who wants his/her own page and article but isn't here to build an encyclopedia. However, I even don't know about him in real life. His/her name is SYED UZAIR ALI SHAH. Have a look! What would you say? Thank you. Empire AS Talk! 20:19, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

So famous that he needs to write about himself or to try recruiting you as a cat's paw? WP:U5 for the userpage & c:COM:CSD#F10 for his pics on commons. Cabayi (talk) 08:11, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
That's fine. But I think that he would approach me again on my talk page. What can I do to deal with him? Thank you. Empire AS Talk! 08:15, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I'd ignore him if I were you. He's had 3 versions of his userpage deleted, one autobiography deleteed from mainspace, and 9 selfies waiting for deletion on Commons, with no useful contributions. He's looking very WP:NOTHERE. Cabayi (talk) 08:23, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I'd ignore him. But I think if he keeps doing this or creates his user page with that same information again then it would be fully clear that he's WP:NOTHERE. Thank you. Empire AS Talk! 08:32, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Happy New Year!
Hello Cabayi:

Did you know ... that back in 1885, Wikipedia editors wrote Good Articles with axes, hammers and chisels?

Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unnecessary blisters.
