Entry 1

[edit]

Hi Lord Laitinen, thanks for your welcoming message, I don't mean to do major edits or create new articles, I'm just a linguist (a professional translator) and sometimes feel like correcting grammar, spelling and general style when I read rather badly redacted articles in my working languages (French, English, Spanish) but that's about it! Cheers, Sophie Sophie.looky (talk) 01:34, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Entry 2

[edit]

Hello. I have removed the image you added to the article since we're interested in having pictures of cars in the article, not pictures where people are a prominent part of it. Thank you. Thomas.W talk 16:51, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Entry 3

[edit]

The image in question provides no unique value to the entry, is of low quality due to the vehicle being obscured by a person in the shot, and does not even feature the subject matter (Jaguar XF Sportbrake). I understand you may be protective of the said image as it appears to be one of your own, but I believe that it does not belong in the entry. WP:PERTINENCE — Preceding unsigned comment added by 106.69.224.188 (talk) 00:49, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Entry 4

[edit]

Hello. I saw your attempt to move Kenosha, Wisconsin to the redirect Kenosha by moving the latter page to Kenosha, W. I think you might be aware of this by now, but just to note again, moving a page to a different name does not delete the original page; rather, it usually creates a 'redirect from move' in the original title. I've tagged Kenosha for WP:G6 under uncontroversial moves to request the move that you have attempted, which you should do when moves are uncontroversial. If moves are controversial, please use WP:RM to allow for discussions. KJ Discuss? 23:18, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Profiterole

[edit]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on Profiterole. But you might want to reconsider the wording of your edit comment, "Don't EVER erase my pictures from an article without giving a reason.", which seems inconsistent with WP policies WP:OWN and WP:CIVIL. --Macrakis (talk) 19:21, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

[edit]

A bit of explanation may help. The style guide on naming U.S. settlements is WP:USPLACE. Since in most things, we follow what the sources say, and the single biggest source for most anything is newspapers, it was decided long ago that settlements will be named "city, state" with 20 exceptions that are listed in the AP Stylebook, the bible if you will of newspaper style and layout. They are listed in footnote #2 in the above mentioned guideline. Milwaukee is on the list; Kenosha, and almost everyplace else, is not. Hope that helps you understand. I have unreviewed a page you curated

[edit]

Thanks for reviewing Alex merkin, Lord Laitinen.

Unfortunately Tek022 has just gone over this page again and unreviewed it. Their note is:

This needs a bit more looking into, especially in regards to notability.

Rollback

[edit]

I think you could be a good rollbacker, but whoever told you to get "a few dozen" reverts to prove yourself ready gave you bad advice. It really takes a lot more experience than that. I would be willing to sign you up as a rollbacker given enough time, and I would consider doing it even though you were denied at the RFPP page if you understand that you really have to be near perfect and if you make a mistake you probably won't get rollback access back for a long time, if ever. Soap 03:23, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Soap: It has been more than six months since you left me this message. Since that time, I have reverted countless disruptive edits, test edits, and edits that constituted vandalism. Please feel free to look over my history, and let me know if you are ready to grant me the permission. Thanks a bunch! Lord Laitinen (talk) 10:08, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but Im not seeing it. In the last six months I only see ten reverts, and only about sixty edits in total in mainspace. Unless youve been editing as an IP or on another account in the meantime. I still stand by what I said, but this is in no way what I was thinking of when I said "a lot more experience". I'm glad to see you still editing nonetheless. Soap 16:08, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Soap: Hello once again, Soap. I hope you had a pleasant holiday season. I wanted to request the rollback permission, once again. I have been a reviewer for several months now, and I have used that tool to counter vandalism and many other types of disruptive editing dozens, if not hundreds of times. Also, I have acquainted myself with Twinkle's rollback features so as to prepare myself for the "real thing." I hope you consider my recent contributions to be worthy of a second permission, and I thank you for your time, once again. Lord Laitinen (talk) 17:04, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Lord Laitinen, in case you haven't noticed Soap is currently blocked, it would probably be better if you request rollback at WP:RFP/R. On a side note, there is a user script that will strike through usernames who are blocked, if this is something that you like to try you can ping me and I can try and help you get it installed, or you can try here: Mark Blocked Have a great day ! Good morning, I have tried to find the button referred to: If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". and failed. Hey Lord Laitinen, I've noticed your manually changing the This page was last edited by section on your user page, I'm not positive (I've never used this template and the documentation doesn't exactly say it does) but I think this template {{last edited by}} will change that for you after every edit, no matter who makes the edit. Just thought it might be helpful. Cheers, Mlpearc (open channel) 21:47, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have tagged all your images that did not appear constructive or usable in articles for deletion as with the {{db-f10}}. I have left the ones that are used and the german shepherd one. I would advise you to read WP:NOTMYSPACE especially point 2. The Db-f10 CSD criteria sets this out as well. If you have any problems, please contact me. Speedy deletion of File:Lord Laitinen's Sister on Christmas.jpg

[edit]

A file that you uploaded, File:Lord Laitinen's Sister on Christmas.jpg, has been listed in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion because it is not an image, sound or video file and does not appear to have any encyclopedic use. See section F10 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you feel that this file has a use in the encyclopedia, please place the {{hangon}} tag on File:Lord Laitinen's Sister on Christmas.jpg, then go to its talk page (by clicking Discussion at the top of that page) and insert an explanation of how the file is useful to the encyclopedia. Thank you.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kenosha, Wisconsin, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Church of God. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

@Funkatastic: I'm afraid not, "bud." You added a match to the page which has not yet been officially announced. Also, the source you cited seemed very questionable and iffy, at best. If what you say is true, re-add the information after it has been officially announced with a RELIABLE source cited. Thank you. Lord Laitinen (talk) 20:42, 30 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Your claims were so ridiculous didn't believe you were actually talking about. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi Lord Laitinen. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Beeblebrox (talk) 00:45, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Andy Harris page

[edit]

Hello, While you raise legitimate concerns over the source I used in a section of Andy Harris' page, I reject any claim that what I wrote was defamatory. There are at least 2 more media sites with articles corroborating what I wrote, as well as a video of the incident. While my tone may have been slightly aggressive, everything written was factual, I merely described the incident that was recorded and that you can see happening in the video footage. While you were right to flag for editing, completely removing my submission, making it appear as though this event never occurred, is deeply disturbing to me. How many sources are needed to verify that this in fact did happen? Here are the sources: http://www.rawstory.com/2016/01/gop-congressman-uses-bogus-stats-about-d-c-black-residents-in-anti-marijuana-rant/ http://dcist.com/2016/01/dc_advocates_crash_andy_harris_town.php http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2016/01/21/3741521/congressman-makes-up-statistics-about-black-people-to-argue-dc-residents-are-irresponsible/ Sp176 (talk) 21:27, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Sp176: I feel justified in my removal of your highly biased content, and other users thanked me for doing so. Other media sites are likely not as strict as Wikipedia, and you should review Wikipedian policy, not other websites, in order to determine what is and isn't appropriate. I don't care if it did or didn't happen; that has nothing to do with the way you worded the incident. Do not return your material to the article, or further warnings and possible consequences will ensue. BLP violations are not taken lightly, nor is defamation. Lord Laitinen (talk) (requests) 22:54, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please tell me exactly which sentences were worded in a biased manner. while the section may be updated with further information about other aspects of the town hall. his remarks afterword are certainly the most notable and controversial, thus why it is in the section on controversies. I have looked over your user contributions page and it appears as though you have a clear conservative bias, as well as having made classist remarks in the comments on your edits. I will not allow you to censor information about politicians, no matter how controversial. again, tell me exactly which sentences are not worded in a neutral manner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sp176 (talkcontribs) 22:11, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Czar: Regrettably, I will not be able to attend this event. As a strict Catholic, I never leave my home city during the Season of Lent, and I will also be very busy planning my family's Easter party. Finally, Madison is more than 2 hours from all of my homes, and that's just too far for me to travel at my age. Thanks for the invitation, anyway, and God bless! English variations

[edit]

Because this seems to have been deleted in an edit conflict, I'm posting again: See WP:ENGVAR. The claim that "British spellings do NOT belong on the Wikipedia, which uses American English as its language basis. This has been decided many times. This is not the British Wikipedia" is wrong in every possible way. There is no British Wikipedia, and the standard that has been decided many times use either British or American English in articles depending on different circumstances. Ian.thomson (talk) 05:50, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ian.thomson: I thank you for respectfully criticizing my comments/editing. It is surprisingly rare to find respectful, civil editors in situations such as these. Also, I have formed an argument on the talk page to justify a change to American English. I hope this changes things. Go with God! ~LL~ (talk) (requests) 05:55, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding civility, I think you might need to assume more good faith from Farsight001. Your argument really doesn't change things. You'd have to establish that the Catholic Church is somehow more of an American topic than Britain (impossible), demonstrate that the article always used American English (it's always used British ever since it became more than a redirect), or get WP:ENGVAR changed at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy) (not happening, since the basic idea behind that policy has been stable since 2001).
I've been here for just over nine years, and I've seen a lot of different things on here. The behavior you're displaying with this topic usually results in a block at some point for WP:TEND, WP:EW, or WP:NPA. Regardless of what you think of him, Farsight001 (who has been around several years as well and generally knows how things work here) is correct about policy in this case. Ian.thomson (talk) 06:17, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Ian.thomson: Once again, thank you for being respectful. However, this situation is out of hand, and I wish to distance myself from it at this point. I am not fighting this battle any longer, as I see it is already lost. Thanks for both your criticisms and support. ~LL~ (talk) (requests) 06:26, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

La Paz, Indiana

[edit]

I see that you have just moved "La Paz, Indiana" to "LaPaz, Indiana." You did this in February 2015 as well, and I moved it back at that time. You cite the zipcode.org, but that site doesn't use a capital "P," so that doesn't really support the move you made; it doesn't use the space, but also uses a lowercase "p". Both the United States census and the USGS use "La Paz", as do Google Maps and Mapquest. Even the history of Marshall County from 1908 uses "La Paz". What other sources are you using for this? It might seem that local usage would be authoritative, but that's not necessarily the case. Omnedon (talk) 16:44, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Omnedon: I've left a list of links using spellings "LaPaz" or "Lapaz" for you to look over below (there are many more others). Since there is such a variety of spellings on the web, I feel that consensus should be reached on which one is most appropriate for the page title. However, I personally feel that La Paz, a spelling I found on fewer sites than LaPaz or Lapaz, is less appropriate for the article than the other two. However, I understand why you moved the page back and will let other editors decide in the future whether it is truly appropriate or not. Thanks for getting in contact with me, and happy editing! ~Lord Laitinen~ (talk) 19:40, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
None of these is authoritative for this purpose, in the way that the United States Census and the United States Geological Survey are. For example, Facebook and Weather Underground could hardly be said to be authorities on how a place's name should be spelled; they are using a name to identify a place, and that works, but they are not official directories of places. Who knows who set up the town's Facebook page, or their Weather Underground page? Looking at the others, iBegin is a business directory, not a place directory. As for zipcode.org, it is not an official list of ZIP codes, and in any case, their "About Us" page says that their data is based on the 2000 census, and that they make no guarantees about the accuracy of the data. You may find a variety of spellings, but simply comparing the totals of each occurrence and deciding strictly on that basis would not be appropriate. We need to use reliable sources, not Facebook. Anything further? Omnedon (talk) 20:18, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Omnedon: I don't consider Mapquest or Google Maps to be spelling authorities, either. However, I chose the best (seemingly most reliable) five links to show you. If they alone are not enough evidence for the name change, then I'm afraid I cannot assist in this matter any further. Perhaps "La Paz" truly is the best choice. Sorry for the trouble. ~Lord Laitinen~ (talk) 20:29, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't say that Google Maps or Mapquest were necessarily authorities on place name spellings, though they would have more weight than Facebook (for example). But would you accept the census and USGS as authorities on this? No person or organization is infallible, of course, but in my experience, when the census and the USGS agree, it's pretty solid. Within the community I'm sure you could find people who think it's "La Paz", other who think it's "LaPaz", and others who think it's "Lapaz", for various reasons, and they might all have some valid reasons. But for Wikipedia, a source that is both reliable and cite-able is needed. Omnedon (talk) 20:41, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
