New users log
[edit]Hi there, and welcome to Wikipedia! I read your message on the new users log - yes, you are correct, those pages need quite a bit of work before they are up to standard. Those articles tend to be less frequented than others, and probably is the main reason why they are not as authoritative as they should be. We are in need of people with your expertise, so feel free to jump right in and begin editing. You may find Wikipedia:List of WikiProjects of interest to you - a WikiProject is generally more cohesive sub-community on Wikipedia where editors gather and focus on editing a particular topic. I hope you'll be able to find something of your interest, and if you have any further questions, please feel free to drop by my talk page. See you around the Wiki! --HappyCamper 18:56, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- I've looked at your edit history, and it seems you made a stop at Investment bank. I'm not familiar with the topic, but I've added the {{verify}} and {{cleanup}} tags to the page - hopefully someone will come by and do some fixups. It may take some time before this happens, but adding these tags increases their visibility in various subpages of Wikipedia, and notify other editors of the need to review the article. Thanks again for your detailed feedback. --HappyCamper 19:00, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- In this edit, your concerns about spelling on talk pages has been addressed. A long time ago, Wikipedia used to have a built in spellchecker, but it was removed because it took up too much computing resources for the servers to handle. --HappyCamper 19:06, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:CSFirstBoston 190-1-.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:CSFirstBoston 190-1-.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:51, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Cbmccarthy! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 139 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Romania american chamber of commerce2.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Romania american chamber of commerce2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 03:54, 9 March 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 03:54, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:Romania american chamber of commerce2.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Romania american chamber of commerce2.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 05:28, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Romania american chamber of commerce2.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Romania american chamber of commerce2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
PLEASE NOTE:

File permission problem with File:Mark Meyer 1.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Mark Meyer 1.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 15:25, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Alva Woods, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.brown.edu/Administration/News_Bureau/Databases/Encyclopedia/search.php?serial=W0330.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. Proposed deletion of Webster, Sheffield, Fleischman, Hitchcock & Chrystie
[edit]The article Webster, Sheffield, Fleischman, Hitchcock & Chrystie has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (companies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back. Thank you,
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Replaceable fair use File:Lawrence Public Library - Front Facade 1973.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Lawrence Public Library - Front Facade 1973.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Diannaa (talk) 19:44, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Historical Markers in Orange County
[edit]Hi Cbmccarthy.
I noticed that you seem to have done some work on NYS historical markers in Orange County. I have, sadly for other aspects of my life, become quite interested in historical markers and have spent way way too much time updating the listing for Ulster County. I point this out to inspire you should historical markers and/or Orange County be interesting to you; I think they are a fascinating view on what and how people remember. If you are interested, the best list of original markers is referred to on this page. I also found it useful in Wikimedia to create a category for the markers in Ulster County rather than just put pictures in a category for NYS markers.
And, Neversink Drive! How cool to have markers that tell a story along the road. How dumb to put them on a narrow, winding road where stopping to read might not be so smart. Traffic collision.
Let me know how/if I can inspire you to do for Orange what I am doing for Ulster. -- HighAtop94 (talk) 03:38, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Biddle and Smart
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Biddle and Smart, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/b/biddle_smart/biddle_smart.htm. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.
- It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 07:35, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- I think whichever of you did the speedy deleting was a little bit trigger happy. I wrote this article along with two other articles in an attempt to give more coverage to the once-thriving automobile body manufacturing businesses of Amesbury, Massachusetts. I clearly cited the source. If the text was too close to the original sources, I could have easily modified the text so that it wasn't plagiarism. Is there any way someone can restore the article for a few days so that I can fix it?? I went through the effort of linking about half a dozen pages about early automobile manufacturers. It would be a shame to have to re-do those links instead of just being given a chance to edit what had been there. Thanks.
Cbmccarthy (talk) 18:19, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- (cross-posted from my talk page) I can send you a copy of the deleted article by email if you like, but you will have to activate your Wikipedia email first. Note the deletion nomination was also for notability concerns, so you will also have to establish how the company is notable enough by Wikipedia standards for an article. The guideline for companies is at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:34, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Biddle and Smart

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.
