Request reason:
I am new to wikipedia, but not a sockpuppet. There seems to have been an issue with several users editing from the same ip address and adding links to the same site. I was part of a graduate student workshop where we were given training in editing wikipedia pages, and was indeed part of a group editing pages on the same day, but no one had an intent to spam, and as a novice I was trusting the workshop organizers that we were engaged in helpful scholarly activity. Thanks. Charivari3000 (talk) 13:32, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

au contraire
[edit]Y'all all added links to the same site as a class exercise? This, if truly a class assignment, is unfortunate. Perhaps you should mention this to your instructor. Perhaps in the future, he/she will register with the wiki/ed people. Should we unblock you, what constructive edits would you make to improve the world's larges free-content encyclopedia.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 17:16, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the prompt response! I hope I am responding correctly here. I am definitely mentioning it to the workshop leader. But rather than simply an exercise, the edits were intended to be helpful contributions to topics on medieval music. I don't have any immediate plans for editing pages, but I would like to keep the option open. I have degrees in linguistics and music and would like to be able to share my expertise with wikipedia users. I am also concerned about maintaining this account and being able to use it for Wikidata. I am exploring topics in digital humanities and would like to learn how to access the data there. Thanks very much.--Charivari3000 (talk) 18:17, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
- You should mention that the sockmaster did this a year ago. Hope you were not charged anything to learn how to get indefblocked on Wikipedia.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 18:31, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, I will. Though that fellow was not 'the sockmaster', just another participant in the program. What do you suggest I do at this point to be unblocked? I can understand why the action was taken, but what happens next?Charivari3000 (talk) 19:12, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
- I do not know. The request for unblock is up. We ill see what other reviewers say.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 19:14, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
- Ah, Ok. I see. Thanks again for info & responses--much obliged!Charivari3000 (talk) 19:19, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Dlohcierekim: - the only thing I can think of is ask a CU if the story adds up, and the edits were coming from an edu. SQLQuery me! 01:42, 21 May 2018 (UTC)

This has been lingering for some time. I would be happy to unblock with the understanding that there'd be no more links to musiconis. It looks to me like they were tools of another to unwittingly add spam links. It is de rigueur to ask for examples of the sort of constructive edits the user would make instead. And of course if Callanecc agrees.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 19:18, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you. I would appreciate if you could unblock me. I will not link to musiconis again. I don't know what to offer you as examples of constructive edits I will make -- if I can help by adding a citation where I see one is missing, I will, or by correcting obvious typos. Thanks for responding. Charivari3000 (talk) 20:46, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Sorry it has dragged out like this.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 20:56, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Dlohcierekim: No issue with unblock, the edits are too old to do an effective CU check. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 06:51, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
