Hope you enjoyed it
Wikimania isn't my sort of thing, can't see joining the crowds and kneeling in subservience to Jimbo (I just got the commentary off Wikipediocracy, that was quite enough). Hope you enjoyed it though. But if you have some time now that you've returned from the Land of the Octopus Card and Cheap Tailors, could you look in at the peer review of Grace Sherwood, not necessarily of blessed memory? What I need someone to do is go through the sourcing with a fine tooth comb and make sure the references do say what we tell the reader they do?--Wehwalt (talk) 12:20, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oh my, that is... going to be a fun FAC. I'll be doing Dr. B's PR first, but yes I'll try and take a look at it. HK was nice, and although I was up and going for more than 12 hours every day I still feel rested — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:19, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- I've been to Hong Kong once, I enjoyed it. I'm going to get to spend a couple of days back at the numismatic association's library/museum next month. Doing a bit of a research trip. So I will retake some of those blurry photos.--Wehwalt (talk) 22:24, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- Ooh, sounds good. Have a safe trip! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:35, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

I hope you enjoyed it too
You could have woken me to say you were going - it wouldn't have mattered. You didn't miss anything at the beach - unless jumping up and down to very loud unmusical modern music is your thing (I'm at least 50 years too old for that - I got stuck somewhere between Hard Rock, BeBop, Funk, and Fusion Jazz). There wasn't any food either (again). That said, it was a great conference and I hope to catch up with you again soon. Take care, Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 12:50, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I remember you telling me about it after you got back. I'll try and compile a list for the ASEAN project we were discussing once life here settles (got a busy month ahead of me) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:23, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- The party was nothing to be missed. Anyway, wanted to drop by and say it was great to meet you. Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 08:45, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Steven. It was nice to meet people from the Foundation as well, and to find out more about what's been planned. Hope the flight is/was pleasant! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:23, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of Allah jang Palsoe
Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am glad to be reviewing the article Allah jang Palsoe you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. DYK nomination
Thank you!. Not "chart-toppers" though, by any stretch of the imagination... Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:23, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- Good point. Added another ALT. Always glad to help! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:36, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- ...and it wasn't the telephone directory that hit the charts, it was the Highway Code and the weather forecast. (Sorry, should have noticed that the first time!). Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:16, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- Right, that's what I get for speed reading Facepalm . Thanks for bringing it up. Don't be afraid to comment at the nomination page if you want. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:24, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
New images
Hi Crisco 1492, I wondered if you could check something out for me. We hope very kindly uploaded a few images to Commons of Jo Stafford and related people, including a colour picture that might be suitable for the main image. Could you give them a quick lookover just to check all is well? I've listed the files below:
- File:Jo Stafford color photo 1948.jpg
- File:Paul Weston Jo Stafford Johnny Mercer 1948.jpg
- File:Jo Stafford at her radio show 1949.jpg
- File:Jo Stafford William Boyd Voice of America 1951.jpg
- File:The Starlighters 1949.jpg
- File:Weston and Stafford on the air 1949.jpg
Thanks in advance. Paul MacDermott (talk) 12:19, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- This is why We hope deserves all the wikis. I've taken a look, and they all seem correct. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:22, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- I agree, We hope deserves recognition for helping to get the article up to the point where it could be nominated. Thanks for taking a look, I'll swap them over. Paul MacDermott (talk) 12:27, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Image question
Hi Crisco, I'd like to get some images of Basil Rathbone in his Sherlock Holmes series of films. Four of the films fell out of copyright in the 1970s and are therefore in in the public domain. It sounds an obvious question, but am I allowed to freely upload images from these films onto Commons? Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 15:36, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- Did you see if they were renewed? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:57, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- Slightly confusing, but not at the time by the original holders, as far as I can see. There were subsequent copyrights made - one for the colourised version and one for the newly-released UCLA restored copies. - SchroCat (talk) 16:04, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- The issue with these is that the copyright renewal may not be online in the government's database but in books twenty-... seven years later. You'd have to check those first. But yes, if the copyright lapsed in the US then it should be fine (as an American series) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:12, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- Great: thanks for that. I'll do some manual searching and also see if I can find reliable sources backing up the public domain info. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 16:14, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Royal Canin
Hi Crisco, I wonder if you would be able to advise me please? I think the Royal Canin article may have some (most?) of the present text copied mainly from the Thoenig book, so I don't think it likely the book copied the article. As far as I can tell, the lead may be copied; all except the last para of the 'Brief company history'; all of the sections 'Veterinary Expertise' and 'Veterinary and Peer-Reviewed Journal Research'; and the sentence at the start of the 'Factories' list. I've included the refs in the article for where I think it's taken from. The sections on 'Recalls' and 'Controversial sponsorship' are okay. The article has gone up and down in size as at one point someone had added over 2800 characters to include all the varieties of products. I have drafted a new version in my sandbox but I'm also toying with the idea of doing a DYK for it (if it has previously been copied) but I don't know how that gets worked out - or would I have to do a x5 expansion on the character count of the current version (something I'd never manage!)? Sorry to be bothering you again but I'm not sure who else to ask. SagaciousPhil - Chat 16:53, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not seeing it in the book. Can you show me an example? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:46, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- The lead and sentence under 'factories' is from here? SagaciousPhil - Chat 06:28, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- Alright, yes it looks like it could be deleted as having no salvageable material and as a copyvio. I'll rev delete once you move your version in. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:50, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- I've moved it across - I did it in sections, so I hope I've done it correctly? Thank you for your help! The only parts that weren't really changed were the 'Recalls' and 'Controversial sponsorship' sections. SagaciousPhil - Chat 07:52, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- Looks good. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:56, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Crisco! I'll leave it a couple of days to see if any interested editors make any further changes. Am I able to nominate a DYK for it as 'new copy due to copy vio'? Or might it be better just to leave it? I'm not desperate to have DYKs but it would be nice. Really I'm just happy enough to have helped 'improve' the article. SagaciousPhil - Chat 08:06, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- That's easily enough to get a new DYK. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:10, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

User:TonyTheTiger/sandbox/FOURRFC
Thanks for taking a look at User:TonyTheTiger/sandbox/FOURRFC. We will go live with the discussion when population of Category:Wikipedia articles rejected for Four awards settles down and we understand our universe of relevant articles.
I reverted your edit because it indicated that you have not become acquainted with the FAQs of the project. They are enumerated at the project talk page. Feel free to contact me if there is further confusion.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/WP:FOUR/WP:CHICAGO/WP:WAWARD) 14:51, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- Are you really that dense, or have you finally started coming out of your troll shell? Your own comment: "we assess when the first edit was that resulted in the article being an encyclopdic topic. Then credit that editor" (emphasis mine). There is nothing to do with "just filling in a redlink" in that comment of yours. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:34, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- Furthermore, your six "enumerated FAQs" have nothing on the time of creation; your comment illustrates that you yourself don't understand the FAQs. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:38, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- I understand that in all likelihood, you are attempting to pick a fight with your WP:PAs above about being dense and troll and such, but I will attempt to respond nonetheless. You say above that "I will respond to all good faith, civil messages", so I will attempt to respond in that manner. First, I don't promote my own articles at FOUR. So I can't speak for other editors. However, of the 800 or so articles that we believe to have passed DYK, GA and FA, I believe I have done 90% of the evaluations. I thought I was clear that your confusion lies in your lack of familiarity with the FAQs at WT:FOUR. I was referring to FAQ5 at Wikipedia talk:Four Award/FAQ where it states with italics for emphasis that "Collaborating on starting an article involves being productively involved in the transition from a redlink to the point of the article's first edit which gives it encyclopedic content". This is meant to say that non-vandal edits between the redlink and the first edit which gives encyclopedic content. Time of creation is a "new rule" by which no article has ever been evaluated. It will be at issue in the RFC when it goes live. Editors are free to endorse your 24-hour rule if they so choose. Also, please provide me a diff to the comment that you point out above. I don't know where it came from.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/WP:FOUR/WP:CHICAGO/WP:WAWARD) 15:53, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oh Tony, I don't hate you. I love you as much as O'Hare, and we've had just as many wonderful experiences. Lets see, what can I give you. Well, I have this diff in whence you say "Historically, I have tried to define the creation stage as the transition from a redlink to an article with encyclopedic content." (i.e. not just redlink-> bluelink), then there is "we assess when the first edit was that resulted in the article being an encyclopdic topic. Then credit that editor...". Want more? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:02, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- O.K. lover, let me explain.
- this where I say "Historically, I have tried to define the creation stage as the transition from a redlink to an article with encyclopedic content." presents the creation stage as something open to collaborative involvement by several editors. The first two-thirds of that diff talks about my intended and actual enforcement of the rule. The latter third talks about other stuff at issue in the forthcoming RFC. That is entirely consistent with the FAQ5.
- this You conveniently edited to end with "Then credit that editor..." but failed to note that it says "Then credit that editor and all editors with earlier edits to that page with the creation stage." Again, collaboration is defined by being involved prior to the first encyclopedic edit.
- The forthcoming RFC will determine whether the creation stage ends with the first encyclopedic edit or 24 hours after the first edit.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/WP:FOUR/WP:CHICAGO/WP:WAWARD) 16:24, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- The forthcoming RFC will do nothing if you are reverting other editors responses to inconsistencies in your application of the rules, particularly in that the transitory period from redlink to article with encyclopedic content for a userspace collaboration would still fit under your retrospective reworkings of your intent here, yet you blocked Ian and Nick's collaboration from going through. I also note that comments such as "FOUR eligibility has always been for any editorial involvement in the transition from redlink to encyclopedic" would likewise allow such collaborations. Anyways, see you at MFD. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:34, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- That RFC has a talk page. Comment there on any inconsistencies that you feel exist in the RFC.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/WP:FOUR/WP:CHICAGO/WP:WAWARD) 02:12, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- I know the pseudo-RFC has a talk page, and I know that nobody is watching it except maybe you. I know that the pseudo-RFC is pertinent to the MFD at hand, as it has been brought up by several editors (including yourself), and as such shortcomings in the pseudo-RFC are pertinent to the deletion discussion.I also know that anything you disagree with is liable to be reverted in your user space, so I'd rather avoid the further drama. Thank you, and have a nice day. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:18, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Yet another DYK Q?
Hi Crisco, I was wondering, I have been seeing DYK nominations which have not done QPQ, saying instead 'not a self nom'. Is this right, or (as I have been doing) do you still have to do QPQ despite it not being created/5X expanded by you? Thanks again, Matty.007 17:31, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Topic ban
Hi Crisco. We've long had a problem with a disgruntled editor WikiWatcher/Light show with the Peter Sellers article. Basically he was miffed that we expanded his C class article and improved it to FA status. Since he's done little but troll the talk page and creating unnecessary drama and has a serious grudge. I definitely think it's time that we request that he be topic banned from Peter Sellers given that he frequently causes disruption and time wasting and there is a wealth of evidence to prove this. I was wondering if you could assist me in the process?♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:16, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi there, Dr. B.! I was just looking at that thread, actually, and you seem to be on the right track... but first we have to get community consensus for it, which I just don't see yet. In fact, it's devolved really quickly. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:21, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
Aren't most proposed topic bans though for editors on specific topics which only a few people are aware of and affected by though? I thought the point of it was to provide sufficient evidence of repeated misconduct on a given topic for the community to assess and make a judgement on?♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:11, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Scientology was a big one. No, as far as I know there is no different approach for different subject areas. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:15, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

- From the mere fact that you're asking I'm going to assume a copyright notice is there. It would still be copyrighted, per the Hirtle chart, as copyright was automatic was 95 years post-publication so long as the notice is there. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:04, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
Thinking about a "Million Award" --talk page stalkers welcome
All this talk about user awards has me thinking. I keep jabbering on about how we neglect the highest-traffic articles, and I often want to award users who pass a particularly high-traffic article through GA or FA, but to my knowledge nothing specific for that exists. (I usually just give a barnstar with a lot of added text.) It seems wrong that there's no talk page bling for that; I know the Core Contest works on this issue, but that seems to run only intermittently.
So I'm thinking of creating a related trio of awards like a "Quarter Million Award", a "Half Million Award", and a "Million Award". They could be given as barnstars and/or userboxes any time a qualifying article is brought to GA, A-class, or FA that can be projected to attain that level of annual readership, minus main page appearances. (That averages to 20834 readers/month, 41667 readers/month, and 83334 readers/month for the three levels.) Ideally the award would:
- give a fun social incentive (i.e., bragging rights) for tackling a high-traffic article
- be an encouraging reminder of the huge volume of readers helped by our work
To avoid time-wasting drama, the award wouldn't be policed or formally supervised in any way beyond basic page maintenance; if someone extrapolates from an unnaturally high-traffic month, does the math wrong, or claims something they didn't do much work on, so be it. We could keep a list at the award page of awarded articles/editors, but note that the award is only for encouragement, that disputes should always be avoided, and that anyone is welcome to add their own work or another's work to the list. Some Justin Bieber songs, recent movies, and the like will end up awarded alongside long-term vital articles, but even that's at least high-readership content. Obviously, I'd exclude myself from eligibility as the award's creator.
I'll draw something up in my sandbox and run it by a few places like WT:GAN for comment, but I thought I'd pick the hive brain of your talk page before venturing into any public forums. Would this be redundant with anything that already exists? Is this a bad idea in a way I'm not currently seeing? -- Khazar2 (talk) 03:20, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- That sounds interesting. There could be some overlap with WP:CORE, although that's more of a contest than an award. I am unaware of any awards which duplicate this functionality. I agree that it sounds like a very nice idea, and it would certainly be doable. Although you indicate that you would prefer to keep a little more hands off approach, I note that you should at the very least make it clear how to count page views (average over random 12 months? average over preceding year?) and perhaps have a backup in case the stats tool goes down. I note with concern, however, that articles such as Paris and Tree can lead to a hell of lot of disruption after major changes are made (Tree looks like a CN-bomb wasteland), and that ultimately this community reaction may end up being a greater disissentive than any barnstar-ish thing. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:28, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- That's a good point that if the stats tool goes down, this award could be screwed. I'll have to think about how exactly to phrase the counting guidelines, but I intend to keep it fairly loosey-goosey; basically I'm fine with anything in the neighborhood and I want to keep the math simple. Let me see what I can draft up. And I hear you on the major articles angst issue... -- Khazar2 (talk) 03:47, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- Cross fingers... — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:02, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I don't think there's all that much overlap with WP:CORE. CORE addresses some of the big picture articles, like History. CORE isn't intended for the wikigroan fancruft huge views articles that this award would address. Each is hard to accomplish for different reasons. Chris Troutman (talk) 04:56, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- True, they do not touch JB or SNSD stuff, but most of the really basic articles also get a heck of a lot of page views. Hence my opinion about overlap. Using your example, history, and a three-month view rate of over 300,000, there'd certainly be a million award there for anyone brave enough to take on that article. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:16, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- I think this idea is fantastic and would greatly help improve WP. I'd be more careful about wanting to keep it "fairly loosey-goosey". For instance, what if there was a rubber stamped GA? would the award get removed following a rapid GAR? I believe that rules should be like DYK: clearly defined, yet allowing enough space for maneuvering. Mohamed CJ (talk) 13:12, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks! I see what you're saying, but what I imagine in such cases is that it would be up to the editor whether she wants to "keep" the award or not. Hugely-popular articles being listed and then rapidly delisted is rare enough that it shouldn't affect the prestige of the award overall, even if a few people claim awards that they might not deserve. That's my hope, anyway. I don't have any experience overseeing an award, so I may have to see how it works out as I go. -- Khazar2 (talk) 13:29, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'd hope for a bit of firmness, or at least a quick check that the article did deserve it, but I don't think using DYK as a model is the way to go. Too many rules, too many chances for arguments. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:55, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- I think my plan is to double-check articles that get listed at the main award page to make sure a nomination is not completely crazy (nowhere close in the numbers, or not passed as a GA). If someone posts a "false" award on their user page, I might say something but probably wouldn't pursue it further. Basically just treat it as a barnstar. -- Khazar2 (talk) 00:14, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- Fair enough. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:17, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Lugnuts editwarring on How a Mosquito Operates
Could you look into this? Lugnuts (talk · contribs) is repeatedly removing whitespace and a portal bar from How a Mosquito Operates despite being told to quit it. Curly Turkey (gobble) 08:30, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- I've explained why - the portal bar is useless and other FA, which I quoted), don't have this useless white space either. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 08:31, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- 1, Portal bars are not useless (all of my recent FAs have them, and they help people discover related topics), and 2, there is no policy against having that whitespace. Both of you are at 3RR, so the next revert is going to be a block. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:32, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- Ironic you say there's no policy against having whitespace, but there is none to have it the first place! Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 08:34, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- You're the one attempting to remove it. Editorial decisions are allowed, and (where there are no policy or guideline violations) what is extant is assumed to be the consensus until a new one is formed (compare the citation policy). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:35, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- So if it's wrong, then it's kept. Brilliant! Carry on with your flawed logic. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 08:42, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- "If it's wrong, then it's kept": I did not say this, anywhere. In fact, without any policy against it, it can't be "wrong" now can it? Editorial decisions mean a personal style, and without a policy or guidelines all we have are editorial decisions. I feel your logic is the one which is flawed. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:39, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
Responded to you there. Adam Cuerden (talk) 10:18, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Your assistance please
A year ago you closed a large fraction of the {{afd}} DBigXray initiated on articles I started, including the article on Sufiyan Barhoumi. I won't repeat here why I thought DBigXray's avalanche of {{afd}} was disruptive. I will point out that other administrators changed the articles to redirects, preserving their contribution history, instead of deletion.
Sufiyan Barhoumi is in the news again:
- Jess Bravin (2013-08-13). "John Grisham's Guantanamo Mystery Solved". Wall Street Journal. Archived from the original on 2013-08-16. Retrieved 2013-08-16.
But those alleged deprivations no longer include the Grisham oeuvre. The Defense Department released the two rejected books, "The King of Torts" and "The Innocent Man," to detainee Sufiyan Barhoumi after a query from the Journal. It was all "a misunderstanding by some junior staff of what constitutes permitted reading materials," said Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Todd Breasseale.

In an interview with Al Jazeera last month, US Air Force Capt. Justin Swick, an attorney for Algerian Sufiyan Barhoumi, said the prisoner was so emotionally disturbed by having his genitals groped prior to his meeting with Swick that it impacted the entirety of their discussion.

After 11 years of detention at Guantanamo Bay, suspected terrorist Sufiyan Barhoumi has decided to plead guilty to war crimes, throw himself on the mercy of the court and serve whatever sentence a U.S. military commission deems just. There's just one problem: The Pentagon refuses to charge him.

Could you please follow the example of those other administrators, and restore the contribution history and talk page of this article, and turn it into a redirect to Algerian detainees at Guantanamo Bay?
- Question: Why do you want the history? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:19, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- I now see Sufiyan Barhoumi was a redirect to Sufyian Barhoumi, and that we already discussed history restorations here.
- I already thanked you for restoring the history. I'll thank you again for that, if you like.
- I think I have abided by the assurance I gave during that discussion, that if I thought there was sufficient new material to justify restoring a deleted article to article space I'd ask for input from other's first.
- Please let me know if you are interested in further discussing efforts made towards getting this article restored. Geo Swan (talk) 22:04, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- Okay. My opinion on these new sources is that they are nothing more than mentions. They are not in-depth coverage of the individual. He isn't even the main newsmaker; Grisham is. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:32, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Greetings, glad to meet you.
Hi there. I found your listing on the page Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area/Adopters. A couple things in your listing particularly caught my interest: You are on the welcoming committee, and your comment about French. I'd love to learn more about the welcoming committee and what you do and how you do it. I don't know if you've seen my infamous post in the Teahouse, but my initial experiences here lead me to ask the rather pointed question "Does Wikipedia REALLY want new users??" The responses have been good, and I'm in the process of formulating ideas for a NEW new user experience. Perhaps you may be interested in taking a look at what I've written, both at the Teahouse and on my talk page. I'm very open to feedback, ideas and suggestions from experienced folks, especially those who focus on new users, themselves.
As for French, it was my first language, but I lost it at a young age, and only recently recovered it. I can speak and read it just fine, though writing it is something I need to work on. So your comment about being contacted in French, but responding in English is something I can relate to.
Anyhow, I'm glad to meet you and hope to hear back. Looking forward to working with you in whatever form you'd like to work with ... be it just a few constructive comments on my ideas, collaboration, etc. Thanks!!
GabrielD2 (talk) 09:14, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Gabriel. Actually, I just removed the adoption box from my page a couple of days ago as I realised that I have not had enough on-Wiki time to be a proper mentor; as such, I don't think I can take you on. I definitely would like to check out your ideas, and see what's being worked towards. Do you have any direct links?
- As for an article collaboration... I've actually been working on translating Michael Riffaterre's Semiotics of Poetry and realised that a lot of these poems are likely notable, but not on the English Wikipedia. "Don du Poème" is one example. How do you feel about literature? I'd probably be able to hunt down a few English sources (or at least try), but French would be out of my league. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:20, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- No problem, I understand. We all have only so much time in the day, and I appreciate your being honest about your availability. Please note, though, that you are still listed as "Currently accepting adoptees" on Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area/Adopters. You may want to update that page if this is no longer accurate!

Gibraltarpedia articles
Hi Crisco, could I ask you to change the wording in your pseudo-RFC question? The restrictions are not on "Gibraltarpedia articles", they are on "Gibraltar-related articles". The difference is important. Any article related to Gibraltar is restricted whether or not it has anything to do with Gibraltarpedia. Prioryman (talk) 00:30, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- Will do. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:00, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- How long do you intend to keep the discussion open for? I know it's early days, but so far it seems to be WP:SNOWing pretty hard... Prioryman (talk) 07:06, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- A week is the norm for RFCs, right? I'm thinking a week. That being said, I shouldn't be the one to close it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:15, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Ah well, there's the complication. The norm for an RFC is a month, not a week. Do you really want to plough through this for the next three and a half weeks? I noticed that you had only called it a pseudo-RFC initially, and that Gatoclass subsequently turned it into a full RFC. But really, as the proponent you should have the final say about whether it's a full RFC, open for a month, or a more limited poll of DYK participants, which would have a more limited timeframe. To be honest I can't see the point of leaving it open for a month given the already overwhelming vote in favour of your proposal. Prioryman (talk) 18:37, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- He what? Oh... I don't think we need to be open a whole month, but I also don't recall any way of closing such RFCs prematurely. We could try setting a time-frame at WT:DYK. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:40, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Hey Crisco! An user had some problems on the flc, I really don't know how to handle. Please look at it as its very demolarising.—Prashant 15:54, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- That's... pretty much one of the reasons why I think budgets shouldn't be in these articles. Only thing I can think of is double check your sources. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:58, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
You are saying that I should remove budgets/collections or I should use exact raw sources. Then he is saying about rate variation between two periods and inflation. He is also saying to simply say crore but, that was changed during PR as it was due to sorting tables that's why we used the current sorting template. If you can tell me about other template.—Prashant 16:14, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- That is not my field (finance? ick). Users such as Wehwalt, whom I trust immensely with this sort of thing, generally don't give the inflated values (and certainly don't adjust for modern exchange rates) because the raw numbers don't reflect the reality of a currency's value (oversimplified version, I guess) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:38, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Users such as Fifelfoo convinced me that these equivalents really aren't meaningful. How can we compare with a society, say like pre 1914 Britain, where any middle class family would have several servants?--Wehwalt (talk) 23:36, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of William E. Eakle
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/William E. Eakle
The article William E. Eakle had several edits adding additional citations after the "delete" recommendations. The article was removed hours later without comment on the additional citations. The alternative to deletion... inclusion in a consolidated article on the broader topic is not possible with the text and citations deleted. How should one proceed? FlugKerl (talk) 18:30, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- One should have left a note to the like at the AFD. That being said, I don't see how any of these are in-depth coverage about Eakle the man. Several, such as Baltimore Grand Jury 1943 and American Brewer, seem to be passing mentions. If you want to work on the article in your user space, I can userfy it for you. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:34, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Some advice
Hey. I don't really know you but we've obviously run into each other a lot at FAC and other places so I feel OK offering some advice. I think you should let the WP:FOUR RFC and MfD run their course, and then just carry on smartly whatever the result. I also think you should stop making additional posts and threads about it. To be clear, it's not that I don't think you have a point or that there aren't issues. I do not get along with Tony at all and I generally avoid any area where he works. I do this because it's not worth my energy. It's not worth your energy. And to fair, it's not worth Tony's energy either. He has a lot to offer Wikipedia and his time is better spent writing articles and doing whatever else he does. I'm saying this about Tony, but I really want to emphasize it to you as well. Wikipedia needs you writing and reviewing articles. You are an awesome contributor and it makes me sad to see you spending so many cycles on this. --Laser brain (talk) 21:39, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'll admit, it feels a lot like spinning my wheels to lose my paddle and end up on a boat up Shit Creek (sorry for the mixed metaphors). I had hoped that, with the overwhelmingly negative responses to Tony's behaviour at WT:FOUR (note the talk page, MFD, and both ANI threads) he would realise that he has something he needs to work on improving; it seems such hopes were unfounded, as evidenced by Tony's latest series of posts on the topic which show a feeling of victimisation without recognising that behaviour by both parties was subpar (his response to my direct questions are particularly telling... I doubt we'd allow a new editor who exhibited that degree of a lack of understanding as much leeway).
- Thank you for the advice, and I am not planning on creating any more threads regarding Tony at FOUR (although if he misrepresents history like this I will point out that he's wrong... and he can't revert at ANI like he did at his pseudo-RFC). During this latest flare up I've already been doing some reviewing (we've crossed paths at Sherwood, and I did How a Mosquito Operates, and then there's two or three FLCs) and written a GA. Tony's OWNership is not such a big issue that I'd let it take all of my on-Wiki time, and writing articles or lists is much more relaxing than worrying about Tony.
- Thanks for the praise, BTW. I still think of my reviews as meh, at best, but yours... very nice. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:54, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Overwriting images
Crisco, I generally have very little to do with images both on Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia, so I'm not sure what should be done with these two images: File:WillSchuester.JPG and File:Emmapillsbury.JPG (sorry; I don't know how to link without causing them to appear here, so no link). Both files, which had been loaded (or reloaded?) a couple of years ago, were overwritten last week by a new uploader, but there was no attempt to adjust the licensing, and I have no idea of the source(s) for the new files. (I'm also not so fond of the practice that effectively replaces all the uses of a photo by co-opting a file name with a new image: it amounts to a stealth substitution, because it doesn't appear in the article's edit history, even if that isn't the person's intent.)
Can you take a look, and if something needs to be done, can you do it when you get the chance? Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:04, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Here's how you link them -- File:WillSchuester.JPG and File:Emmapillsbury.JPG. Chris857 (talk) 01:10, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, Chris857. I always wondered why people were using those initial colons... :-) BlueMoonset (talk) 02:36, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Chris. Blue, the source seems easy to work out (clear promotional picture, example of Emma here); Google backwards image search is useful, as is TinEye here. As for uploading, I'd say that if you consider these new ones preferable to upload them separately with the correct source. The licensing is essentially the same: fair use. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:41, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hope that helped, BlueMoonset. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:02, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, Chris857. I always wondered why people were using those initial colons... :-) BlueMoonset (talk) 02:36, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- It did, thanks, Crisco. I didn't try sourcing Emma's after striking out with Will's in my less knowledgeable searching (the only basically equivalent images I found were on wikias and tumblrs and the like); this makes it clear the new image is a publicity shot. I think I'll drop a note suggesting that in the future the guy upload using new file names if he thinks new images are warranted, and take care of proper licensing along the way, rather than overwrite the old ones . Cienaga
Regarding this edit, I was under the impression it was probably a copyvio as well, but I couldn't find a source and wanted to assume good faith. It is possible that this is the author's own well-researched article on the topic. I'd say it might violate WP:OR, but it is well sourced. Really, isn't any Wikipedia article in some sense original research: the editor's own interpretation of the sources available? I'll defer to your opinion as an admin (I really don't want that mop) but I wanted to let you know my own thoughts on the matter. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:52, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
- No worries. Well, I subscribe to the precautionary principle when it comes to copyright: if it looks like a copyvio, assume it's a copyvio. In this case, it appears to be a copy/paste from a Word document (note the tabs, which our servers do not allow generation of), the manually-formatted references (although, as this was visual editor, that's not such a strong indicator). The extent of the coverage and speed in which it was added, with no subsequent changes, further supports this position. Even if it were the editor's own publication, my understanding is that (if this has been published) the journal would retain the copyright for it, and if this has not been published but the editor wants it to be published (assuming, again, that they are the writer) a journal would not accept it if it's already on Wikipedia. It's possible that there's salvageable content, so I won't delete the revisions, but I don't feel it would be a good idea to keep that hanging around where all can see it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:00, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi Crisco, Hope you're well. I wonder if I could beg a favour from you? I have Sherlock Holmes (1939 film series) at FAC at the moment (still early in the process and it's got a new free image in there and a non-free one. I think they are both OK, but I'd be a lot happier if a knowledgeable eye could be cast over them all? Many thanks for any thoughts you have. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 16:47, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
- FLC, you mean? Sure, I'll take a peek. I've heard that restoration (even a film restoration) may not attract new copyright in the US; you will want to check that out. Otherwise images are fine. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 17:01, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

— Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:15, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Tjerita Oeij Se
On 27 August 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Tjerita Oeij Se, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Thio Tjin Boen's novel Tjerita Oeij Se, with a man who becomes rich after finding a kite made of paper money, has been read as a condemnation of intermarriage? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

I don't think this is fair- you've left Elekhh's unsupported claim that the image has no copyright problems, yet removed my challenge to that, after you've weighed in on the discussion yourself. I'm not going to revert you, as I agree that the discussion probably doesn't belong there, but I do think there's a problem with leaving Elekhh's very questionable claim outside of the archive, making it look unchallenged. Trouble with Harvard citation
Hi Crisco! This is the first time I've used the above citation format and I'm having a bit of trouble with it in Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Hong Kong). I've changed all the book sources to Harv. style using the same format throughout, but only one of them works while the other two don't. Could I trouble you to have a quick look? Cheers! —Bloom6132 (talk) 05:39, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Userfy
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/William E. Eakle I have never used the userfy feature, but I would appreiciate it if you could retrive the text and citations so that the content can be rolled into a broader article. I have created 500 or so articles with very few afd's. I have a pair of new users that are very focused on deleting specific people in Howard County, starting with a strange round of blanking from a new HCPIO account (Howard County Public Information Office), then de-linking and citation removal, timed Afd's, then bulk AFD's on notibility. I decided to wait on the outcome on notablitiy. I will follow the guidelines as best as I can on the broader article, and hopefully calmer heads and editors will prevail. FlugKerl (talk) 06:27, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- What, exactly, broader article would you merge this content into? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:28, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- A history of the county, politics of the county, or a historical list of county officials. I'm open to suggestions. FlugKerl (talk) 22:14, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- I fail to see how these individuals would warrant more than a one- or two-sentence summary. That being said, lists sound like a good idea: List of county executives of Howard County, Maryland does not exist. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:13, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Page protection?
Crisco, do you ever handle page protection requests?
I ask because there's a swarm of IPs at Kurt Hummel, doing unfortunate things to the infobox (and sometimes elsewhere in the article). I put in a request at WP:RFP#Kurt Hummel about 40 minutes ago because of over two dozen edits in a very short time, and well over a dozen have been made since then. If the request can be expedited, that would be great: now that I've made the request, I have to stay away from further involvement. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:59, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- A swarm is right. They're edit warring each other. Done. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:06, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you! It's such a relief to have it stopped. I'll go in now and undo the damage. I'd already warned one of them with a newish account (who seems to have bowed out, or gone the IP route) about 3RR, when I realized this needed stronger action, since at least one IP seemed to be changing addresses... BlueMoonset (talk) 00:11, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Note that it's just one day though, so be braced for tomorrow... I hope you won't have to, but... — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:13, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- I was actually worried that they'd take their game over to the other half of the "couple", Blaine Anderson, but only one visited and was reverted. I'm hoping, given those circumstances, that they won't be back. If so, I imagine no one would be averse to me asking for another round of protection. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:31, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Will watchlist. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:15, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
Crisco, do you ever handle DYK favor hook-checking requests?
I ask because that prick BlueMoonset is so particular and wants another reviewer to look at a tweaked hook. Well, I got two such hooks (review is done, etc.) with minor tweaks, and if someone OKs them you get rid of two DYK noms in a minute: Template:Did you know nominations/Milan Poparic and Template:Did you know nominations/Prisoners of Hope. Tell you what, make that three, and that last one is a really old one (you're welcome, BlueMoonset): Template:Did you know nominations/Rose Lambert. Drmies (talk) 03:16, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Have checked all three. Two seemed okay, but one was... dull. Mind you, it's an Armenian one so I was tempted to not touch it, considering these things are unsung Gibraltars at times. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:09, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- So kind, Drmies. I cannot but return the favor by allowing you to solve on your own how to avoid using both "writer and director" and "wrote and directed" in that dogs hook, since doing so puts you at 209 characters. Good thing you didn't also add "sets", or you'd be at 214... BlueMoonset (talk) 05:31, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
We are currently running a study on the effects of adding additional information to SuggestBot's suggestions. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information on the SuggestBot study page.
IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.
Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:
- Views/Day
- Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
- Quality
- Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:
- Content
- Is more content needed?
- Headings
- Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
- Images
- Is the number of illustrative images about right?
- Links
- Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
- Sources
- For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. Regards from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker. -- SuggestBot (talk) 11:38, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Restorations
Hey, Cris! I've been asked to find new examples of restorations to replace ones a Wikimedia UK page that consists entirely of Durova's work, which, while good, is also by a long-retired user. Could you tell me what your top five favourite restorations you've done are? Also, besides us two, can you think of any other active restorationists? I can think of a half-dozen or so - Papa Lima Whiskey, Staxringold, Trialsanderrors etc - but I don't think any of them have been active in years; if I'm wrong on that point, I would like to know. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:18, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- PLW was active under the name User:Papa Lima Whiskey 2 for a while, but s/he's disappeared since then. User:Mmxx does some, but I haven't seen him/her around recently. Jbarta and User:Centpacrr do some restorations at the image lab, though neither are active at FPC (and I doubt Centpacrr would want the recognition).
- I'm rather fond of
- File:Hadji Ali demonstrating controlled regurgitation Crisco edit.jpg (my first restoration to reach FP; built on Centpacrr's initial restoration)
- File:USS Arizona in New York City Crisco edit.jpg - Lots of little details, very cool image; built on Centpacrr's initial restoration
- File:Terry-Thomas in Burke's Law (1964) Crisco restoration.jpg - Even though it's not of very high resolution, I'm proud of just how much gunk I was able to remove and restore.
- File:Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Crisco edit letters removed.jpg simply because I found Dreamworks film Anastasia enjoyable when I was a child.
- Don't really have a fifth, though if I were forced to choose it would probably be File:Your Liberty Bond will help stop this Crisco restoration and colours.jpg or File:Charles Lindbergh and the Spirit of Saint Louis (Crisco restoration, with wings).jpg. Thanks for the ping, Adam — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:37, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Perhaps File:Golden_Gate_from_Lands_End,_San_Francisco_c1895.jpg would be a useful example of my work in digital image restoration for what you are wanting to demonstrate. (Comparison of original and restoration below.) I have others. but this is probably the most extreme example of a damaged image that was restored.
Centpacrr (talk) 00:40, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- That is... wow. Beautiful. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:11, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- I am puzzled by the first two images you have referred to above for which you take credit as being "your restorations". In fact these are images that I did very major restorations of for you at your request made in the Graphics Lab in December, 2011 (see here and here both of which you then marked as "Resolved"), which you appear to have then reposted as new files (one within hours) styled as your own restorations (called "Cisco edits") but to which you made virtually no changes to the extensive work I did for you other than some extremely minor "flyspecking". (Perhaps this is what you mean above by saying that you "doubt I would want the recognition" for my work.) While I do not seek or accept Barnstars or other forms of WP "merit badges" for the work that I do in here as that is not why I contribute to the project, neither to I expect those that ask me to do it to then repost my work as their own. Please avoid that in the future. Centpacrr (talk) 17:27, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- "Minor flyspecking"? I think you either a) don't quite recall what you did, as your changes were similar (none of the images had major gaps) or b) are still upset over Lindbergh. I remember it built on your restorations, and was going to to note this on my talk page, but then you sucked me into an edit war over Lindbergh. I have added the note above. Now, as for my name: either spell it right or don't post on my talk page. I can understand at non-free media for discussion, but this is my talk page and my user name is everywhere. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:26, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- On the contrary, Crisco, I remember exactly what I did to these images as I spent several hours on each one and still have all the files. But even if I didn't have them, all one needs to do is compare the original file of each image with the restoration I did of them at your request and you will find hundreds of complex edits were made. My issue is that you did not acknowledge that until after I raised the issue (see here) but instead (apparently proudly) said that one (Hadji) was "my first restoration to reach FP" and the other (USS Arizons) had "Lots of little details, very cool image". I also compared my restorations with the files you reposted on new pages as your own and found them to be virtually identical to the restorations I made for you and which you had accepted here and here as resolved. The only "differences" are some very minor additional "flyspecking" that is only visible when the images are inspected at full resolution but none of which are apparent at full image webviewing. Such minor "flyspecking" does not constitute original digital image restoration. So in the future if you want to make small changes like this, the proper thing to do is to upload it on the original host page by overwriting (as opposed to creating a new host page) so that the full history of the image from its original upload to last revision is visible to all.
- Using as an excuse that you failed to acknowledge this in here as being based on a discussion of images on the Charles Lindbergh page is a red herring, especially as that issue did not arise until after your original posting above -- and more than a year after you had originally reposted my restorations in new host pages as your own. This issue and the Lindbergh images have nothing to do with each other, and even if they did that is not grounds for failing to acknowledge where the Hadji and USS Arizona restorations originated. I also did not "sucker you into an edit war" but only restored some images you removed that had been in place from between five to seven years which I felt you had removed improperly. You also had done this without explaining why on the article's talk page until after your deletions had first been reverted by another editor (Bzuk) and you deleted them again. You later claimed that no rationale had been provided for their use which is also not correct. Each image had full rationales on their host pages for each article in which they were used. It's not that they didn't have rationales, it's just that you didn't like what they were. That point is now moot, however, as the images are no longer in the Lindbergh article and I have also addressed the MOS text squeezing issue on that page so that all images are now evenly distributed and do not impinge on the text or each other.
- As for misspelling your screen name that was completely inadvertent and I apologize for that error. This probably is the result of my having a good friend called "Cisco" and am used to writing that. Also the only use I was previously familiar with for the name "Crisco" is as a popular American brand of cooking lard but never as a nick or screen name so again I apologize for the error I will not make that mistake in the future. Centpacrr (talk) 21:09, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
- I am well aware that Crisco is a brand of cooking lard. You were attributed in both images from last year (Arizona in the information template, Ali in the upload history), which you should have noticed. That being said, I never said I needed to note it (again) at the image page; I said "my talk page", and I recollected that you needed attribution after the issue with Lindbergh came up. That being said, you've been attributed since the files were promoted at Crisco 1492/Featured and received FP credit as well. I fail to see how a slip of the finger here makes it a systematic assault against you.
- Again with the "flyspecking". The images as you uploaded them would not have passed FP; I was polishing them to reach that bar. Different threshholds, different targets, different levels of detail. The extra couple hours I put in make me just as worthy to receive credit as you. As for uploading separately, the guideline at Commons:Overwriting existing files specifically forbids that: "If digital restoration work is being done on a historical document or artwork, the restoration (no matter how minor) should always be uploaded under a new filename from the original file, providing a link back to the source on which it was based in the new file's "other versions" field." If anything, your overwriting went against guidelines. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:26, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

2013 Persib Bandung season
Hi, I just realized that on 23 August you completely delete the page for all the 2013 Persib Bandung season, without even any kind of discussion about it. Would you kindly let me know why you did that? MbahGondrong (talk) 17:08, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
- It's because the article has no indication of notability, so I tried a WP:BOLD redirect (avoid the hassle of AFD). As you've reverted, AFD is the way to go. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:29, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Monster/Cantaloupe
Just as an FYI/context, this ANI post is relevant to the discussion with Cantaloupe. He has a long history of stalking and battlegrounding with editors and I am one of those he engages in this behavior with. He started stalking my contributions again just recently, after I made a comment at WP:COI, so that is what you're seeing. CorporateM (Talk) 12:38, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
- Makes sense. I was wondering where they had come out of the woodwork from (certainly argumentative). Thanks for the context. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:41, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
- The proposal was for a one-week block, but three editors voted in support of a longer-term block. Given that context, it might make sense to clarify the length of block you're supporting. I see how this dynamic might occur often, that those that have been dealing with the issue for a long time will be less patient than those experiencing it for the first time. User:Drmies, you should really comment on the block proposal as well, as the closing admin of the RFCU on this editor, though I will avoid notifying the original RFCU participants due to the possible appearance of canvassing, especially given the potential appearance of a COI. CorporateM (Talk) 14:01, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Lugnuts again
I'm sorry Crisco, I've lost my head over Lugnuts. He's been attacking me at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2013 August 17, and now he's attacking How a Mosquito Operates again—with edit summaries like "(clue = 0)", and deleting white space again. Curly Turkey (gobble) 14:10, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
- Please also look at Turkey's edit summaries on said article. He's continuing with personal attacks against me, when all I'm trying to do his help edit his article. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 14:13, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not hiding anything about my edit summaries—that's what "I'm sorry, I've lost my head" refers to. Lugnuts is, however, pretending his deliberately disruptive editing has nothing to do with the Category for discussion. It is all on record, Lugnuts. Curly Turkey (gobble) 14:17, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
- He just wouldn't stop, so I reported it. And I fessed up about my pottymouth as part of the report. Curly Turkey (gobble) 14:43, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
- Cripes you two. You're both going the right way for a block. Lugnuts, if you feel so strongly about this stuff, bring it up at FAC so that a discussion can take place. Curly... you already know where you went wrong, I hope. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:21, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
- I think my last couple of edit summaries at the article and my confession at the report page show I do. I think Lugnuts' edits were clearly designed to bring such a situation on. Curly Turkey (gobble) 15:39, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
- Possible, possible. I've seen some very poor edits from Lugnut, particularly as related to WP:V — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:57, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Copyright/Plagiarism question
Hi Crisco, a quick question - if there is suspected copyright/plagiarism but it's in a draft AFC that has not yet been submitted for review, should it just be left until actually submitted? The 'history' section looks to have been substantially copied from here; the intro, profile and politics sections seem to be from this article with just company details altered. COI (and possibly promotion) may also come into the equation (David Cavill owns Our Dogs - see third line from the bottom of the draft; he also owns Animal Care College, which incidentally it looks like the editor had created an article for previously but was deleted). SagaciousPhil - Chat 11:45, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
- If you can show it's been copied, it should be removed immediately. It's always better to be safe than sorry with copyright. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:44, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Military history Wikiproject coordinator election
Hi Crisco, I know that you don't see yourself as mainly a military historian, but I'd like to encourage you to consider standing for the upcoming election of the project's coordinators. There's a long history of people who mainly work on non-military history topics making a valuable contribution to the coordination team (for instance, Nikkimaria is currently a member), and you'd bring a very valuable perspective, as well as some fresh blood. Details on the election and role of the coordinators is available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Coordinators/September 2013 but please let me know if you have any questions about the role. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 11:50, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion, Nick, but sadly (perhaps happily in six months, if all goes well) I'm going to be bogged down with my graduate thesis this term and would like to try and keep most of my Wikipedia time content-related. I will vote, however, once voting has opened. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:10, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
- Fair enough, and I share your pain - I'm in the final semester of my masters. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 08:47, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
- Best of luck! At the very least my thesis will be tied in with much my Wikipedia work (pre-War films and literature, oh my!) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:16, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Crisco, I was wondering if you could take a look at this when you get a chance. There was an initial reviewer who was reluctant to approve the article given the sourcing, then a call for another opinion, an apparent review from Victuallers (but no final icon), and now it's in limbo. I think it needs an a current DYK regular to settle this, and thought of you. Hope you don't mind. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:11, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

New bot handling GAN page
Crisco, you'll be happy to know that Legobot has taken over the task of assembling the GAN page from GA bot (after that awful botless interregnum), so you don't need to add nominations there by hand. I'm sure you're as happy as I was at the news. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:44, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- That sounds very nice (I hope my addition didn't break anything). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:46, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- It is nice, and you didn't break anything. All the bot did was make a couple of minor adjustments to the entry you added: to the number of reviews you're credited with, and to the time of nomination (presumably pulled from the GA nominee template on the article's talk page). So far, things have gone quite smoothly: fingers crossed that they continue to do so. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:57, 7 September 2013 (UTC)

How are you getting on with Amir Hamzah? Looks nearer FA quality than GA now..♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:29, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
- I've hit a brick wall trying to find some of the sources I want. That Johns article is number one, though I'd also like to consult another biography and that dissertation I mentioned before. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:48, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, but it's easily GA quality as it is isn't it?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:36, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
- Quite easily, except that paragraph about Islamic influences (there's a bare assertion with no supporting evidence). We could cheat a little and merge it with the following paragraph as a temporary measure. What do you think? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:59, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
- Nominated. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:00, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I think merging it would be a good idea.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:30, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
I would have thought a "no consensus" would have been a reasonable outcome, but no need for the drama of DRV. The arguments for deletion were much based upon misinterpretation of guideline and policy, and both User:Green Cardamom and User:Candleabracadabra used some very pertinent interpretations. I have userfied the thing to myself at User:MichaelQSchmidt/workspace/Paul Kimball and will be enlisting the assistance of others in bringing it up to snuff. I will advise and seek your blessing before returning it to mainspace. Fair enough? Schmidt, Michael Q. 18:43, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, I think this may benefit from relisting. If you don't mind, I will unclose and undelete the article to relist it. Rescanning the discussion, I seem to have closed incorrectly. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:26, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

your recent AfD closure
Would you please revisit your recent closure here? even by a pure snout count, the consensus is Merge, not Keep. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:30, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- The consensus is against deletion. I do not see a consensus for merger at this time, although one can be reached via the article's talk page. AFD is not the location for it — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:40, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- what policy basis do you see from those advocating "keep" ? and [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Administrator_instructions merge is in fact a perfectly legitimate outcome from an AfD discussion. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:46, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- I never said merger was not a viable outcome from AFD (and in the same batch I closed several clear merges). In this case, there was no consensus for deleting, but the merger which is proposed has a) not obtained a clear consensus on the target (read the thread under Torchiest's !vote; which real piece of folklore should it be targeted to, or should it be to hags in D&D?) and b) at least one !vote advocates further discussion elsewhere (i.e. Jclemens). That "keep" should not be understood as "keep forever" but "not delete". It does not preclude a merger. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:53, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- wouldnt a proper assessment of the discussion be "there is a consensus to merge, but no consensus on the target of the merge - the proper venue for working out the details of the merge is the articles talk page" and not a flat "keep" '(for which there is actually nothing close to consensus). -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:01, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- That is a possible wording, yes, but ultimately amounts to arguing over the colour of the bike shed, as the closure does not affect any future merger discussion. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:06, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- in most AfDs, the essence of the admin's closure may have no more importance than the colour of a bike shed. but it seems that in these discussions about articles that are in fact bike sheds, the colour does matter. Thank you for reconsidering. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:16, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- No worries. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:21, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- That is correct, it does matter a lot both to people trying to remove content and to people trying to retain it. A seemingly arbitrary result of keep may be seen as a gift to the preservers, while seemingly arbitrarily changing the result to no consensus may be seen as a gift to the removers. BOZ (talk) 15:23, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- And the note on the AFD has already been changed (I also note that there weren't very many "preservers" at that discussion) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:28, 7 September 2013 (UTC)

See User talk:Johnzodrow#Your article which replies to User talk:JohnCD#Deletion of article 'John Rester Zodrow'. Thank you for taking an objective look at the deletion of this article. The notability criteria is valid and the information will be placed into broader articles as recomended, however I am concerned about Wikipedia:Sock puppetry and the creation of new personal and government accounts (HCPIO - Howard County Public Information Office) specifically targeted to AFD this article and most wikilinked to it (Ed Cochran /current and former associates of Cochran). The deletion of these articles related to the timing to this story is notable. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/howard/ellicott-city/ph-ho-cf-watson-announcement,0,3891176.story (to be fair, one of the objecting editor's accounts was not new, but the user's sole edits were to Ed Cochran web pages and National Association of Rocketry web pages involving "Ted Cochran" who also posts to the media as variations of "Fanatic" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6ZF35xMVd0) FlugKerl (talk) 08:53, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Kerl, thanks for dropping by. I recognise your concerns over possible sock puppetry/meat puppetry (though to make a more formal accusation you'd need more proof, as it's a heavy burden of evidence). Both of the later users are fairly well established, so you'll have to forgive me if I don't believe that the possibility of sockpuppetry affected the ultimate result. As for the quality of the discussion, I'm going to have to ask that you consult WP:POLITICIAN, which does not provide for an assumption of notability for county council members and (as such) you'd have to show a fairly large interest in the individual at a scope wider than the local. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:12, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

an explanation please
Dear sir,
I demand an explanation, you deleted my page that was created very objectif and sincere. I followed everything that was asked by the other editors. Why did you do that? Who makes you in charge of judging that page? I ask an explanation and the restore of the page, otherwise i will contact the head of wikipedia because this is not fair, i did everything that was asked, you never asked anything, you just deleted my page.
With kind regards,
Louis D.Wavesurfer2013 (talk) 13:50, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
- You do realise the irony of "I demand" being followed by "kind regards", right? Now, as noted at the rightfully rejected undeletion request the main issue was notability: there has been no indication that Dirk Reynders (please include the link next time) has had sufficient enough impact for a Wikipedia article. Notability has to be shown through multiple, in-depth, reliable secondary sources, which was not evident during the deletion discussion. That's the short answer. For a longer one, please read the guidelines linked here.
- As for "my page", no. It's the community's page. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:17, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

It started as this List of monarchs of Iberia by User:Kober and was later redirected to List of Georgian monarchs. I recreated it in August to clean up that latter article. GeorgianJorjadze redirects to List of ancient Georgian monarchs which he formatted differently against consensus on Talk:List of Georgian monarchs. Dbachmann moved page List of ancient Georgian monarchs to Kings of Caucasian Iberia. I moved Kings of Caucasian Iberia to List of Kings of Caucasian Iberia. GeorgianJorjadze copy and paste his article to List of ancient Georgian monarchs and redirects List of Kings of Caucasian Iberia to it. Dbachmann reverts this. GeorgianJorjadze moved page List of Kings of Caucasian Iberia to List of Iberian monarchs. I moved it back because of confusion with Iberian Peninsula. GeorgianJorjadze copy and paste and redirects page to List of monarchs of Caucasian Iberia. All history can be found in those three articles I listed: List of Kings of Caucasian Iberia and List of monarchs of Iberia to List of monarchs of Caucasian Iberia.--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 12:22, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- If it was on all these pages, how is it that only three have the history? Sorry, I don't think I should do this one. Feels like I'm in over my head. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:27, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- When one is moved from another to another title in the proper way it is all preserved on the same revision history. When things are copied and pasted and redirected to another page in an improper move history is not preserved on existing page only on the redirect. Is there a list of editors somewhere I can ask?--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 15:02, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
DYK for Der Busant
On 10 September 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Der Busant, which you created or substantially expanded. User:Crisco 1492/Valeria Lukyanova
Hi. User:Crisco 1492/Valeria Lukyanova currently violates WP:Copying within Wikipedia#Reusing deleted material. Your edit summary pointing to the article is insufficient because the contributors' usernames and attribution are hidden with the deleted revisions. I usually recommend undeleting in place, but there are potential WP:BLP issues, particularly in the Controversy section. I will check back after the AfD. Thanks. - Thanks for the notice. My plan was to use it only temporarily (to help the discussion about whether G4 should have been used and if the version deleted by Malik Shabazz can help the AFD), then redelete. It's not meant to be a (semi-)permanent fixation, so I didn't bring the history with me when I made the subpage. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:08, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
Favor?
Crisco, when Tito asked the two of us to review one of the Swami Vivekananda articles over the weekend, I begged off, while you did the review requested. About 24 hours ago, I went to smooth out some awkwardness in the Template:Did you know nominations/Sister Christine hook, the one I had passed on, after its promotion to Prep 1. Instead, I discovered that the hook fact was not supported and I couldn't find a way for it to be, so I pulled it from prep. (I ended up substituting the film article you'd reviewed, so there could be a hook on September 11 as requested.)
The issue had to do with whether Sister Christine could be said to be Vivekananda's foster daughter. Some scholars/biographers have referred to the relationship in terms that approach father/daughter, but didn't seem to quite get there. While that aspect has been dropped from the new ALT hook, it has been made more explicit in the lede (though the equivalent sentence in the body is unchanged)—and I'm leery of the wording.
But I've done my bit, and don't want to continue further now that the emergency is past; at the same time, the date that the film was supposed to cover was September 15, which means that the Sister Christine article should be reapproved in the next day or two if it's going to be able to run on the requested day. Can you possibly take over and shepherd this one over the finish line?
Oddly, I had been thinking of asking you to take a look at Template:Did you know nominations/Swami Vivekananda statue (Golpark, Kolkata), another Vivekananda article that I've done enough work on cleanup that I don't feel I should review it. It's currently the second oldest extant DYK nomination, and is waiting for a quick review from an uninvolved person. (It could be shuffled into the September 15 slot if it's done before Sister C.)
Thanks for whatever you think you can take on. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:57, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Amelia de la Rama
Di Wikipedia bahasa Indonesia kan disebutkan istrinya Soekarno kan berjumlah 9 dengan istri terakhir bernama Heldy Djafar, seorang perempuan dari Kutai Kertanegara. Tapi kok di Wikipedia bahasa Inggris disebutkan istrinya Soekarno berjumlah 10 dengan istri terakhir bernama Amelia de la Rama, seorang bintang film dari Filipina.
Pada awalnya saya kira itu hoax. Tapi setelah saya telusuri di Google ternyata tak hanya Wikipedia bahasa Inggris saja yang menyatakan demikian. Bahkan ada diantaranya yang menyatakannya lebih panjang. Contohnya ini:
http://remembranceofthingsawry.wordpress.com/current-events-manila-january-june-2012/
Amelia dela Rama was a former movie star in the late 1950′s and early 1960′s if i remember correctly she is related to Socialite Reme dela Rama Arquelles before she married President Sukarno she was married twice President Sukarno met Amelia dela Rama in 1963 at a reception for President Sukarno immediately he was smitten with the beautiful Amelia dela Rama they got married in a mosque in Jakarta in 1964 a year later President Sukarno was deposed by a general named Suharto after the death of President Sukarno Amelia dela Rama married James Braly a former pilot of President Eisenhower
--Erik Fastman (talk) 07:52, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
— Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:04, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Concerning File:Poster - For Heaven's Sake 02.jpg
I was just wondering, where is the proof that that particular poster is free of copyright? It seems a bit strange to me that of two posters for the same film released at the same time by the same company, one should still be copyrighted and the other not. Esn (talk) 18:41, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
- The same poster is available here at a fair resolution. However, it's not high enough resolution to conclusively show the existence or non-existence of a copyright notice (the lack of which is the reason the other poster is PD). If you have access to a higher-resolution scan, we'd be able to check, but otherwise we have to assume it's copyrighted until we can prove otherwise. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 18:44, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Crisco, I'm afraid that Template:Did you know nominations/Sal Zona dropped from my radar. Hey Crisco, that IP editor is back at Suharto. I note that he was blocked indefintely under the name WP:Purnomor. He has also lodged an ANI complaint (as before) against me. Would a PP be out of the question for that article? cheers --Merbabu (talk) 00:24, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- Watching as it develops. If he reverts again I'll PP. That being said, that Suharto was in Egypt (and I remember reading sources saying he was; I think it was an OPEC meeting) when the crisis hit is pertinent for his biography. He couldn't have done very much from Egypt to prevent what followed. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:43, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- Oh yes, he was certainly in Egypt. I guess, for me anyway, I'm not sure whether it is that relevant to a concise biography. Certainly for articles more focussed on those events in 1998 it might be a more relevant. If it did have lasting significance and impact on the events, it should be in there, but with an explanation in the article. On the other hand, i saw it as little more than a curiosity. Let me think about it. cheers --Merbabu (talk) 00:55, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
- I understand. If I remember correctly, some people condemned him for not coming right back home at the time, and a reader would possibly wonder why he didn't try and stop the riots. Thanks for considering. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:40, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Crisco. I've been working on a fairly complex and nuanced topic of whether Monster's cables make a difference in the audio/visual that is perceivable by the user. Apparently it's a big debate among audiophiles, etc. on whether expensive cables make a difference and North8000 seems to be a topic expert. North supports my draft at least as a place for continued incremental improvement: "My suggestion: Put it in as you wrote it, (perfection is the enemy of progress, and IMHO there are no COI issues in the draft) and then tweak it after that."
I can't imagine a topic where my COI would be more potent than the actual efficacy of the product and I'm not really comfortable making the edit myself. Not that a Request Edit protects me from potential speculations of intentional slanting, but it is a good process to verify there was support for the changes.
I was wondering if you would be comfortable performing the Request Edit here? I want to be BrightLine(ish), but sometimes I have to poke around to find someone comfortable with making the edit on my behalf. CorporateM (Talk) 13:20, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- Replied there, still watchlisting. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:44, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- Bam. I found a University study that did a year-long test using two Monster cables and overwhelmingly found the quality of the cable made a difference. Pretty amazing how extensive lab tests by experts can have radically different views eh? I think there's enough lab tests to focus on more reliable sources than some of the media riff-raff, but I took the lacks of response as a likely no-go. - Sorry, was teaching and at university (morning here). Have replied at the talk page. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:41, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello. Sorry if I'm in the wrong forum to ask this, but it's best to consult an admin who has experience. Good to know that you're at least based in Indonesia because of my concern.
I've already put two of the articles created by SaidMuqaffa (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log), Bang Habib and Eri Satria, into AfD because I feel that the two articles are dubious, since there are no valid links to prove these two "TV stations" in existence. In fact, the Bang Habib article has the logo of TV3 Sweden (a possible copypasta of the infobox from the TV3 article). I've already notified the users in Wikiproject Indonesia and Wikipedia Asia about the AfD.
I'm also equally concerned about this user's generally behavior of putting possibly unsourced edits into several articles.
So can you investigate on this user? Thanks. - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 13:40, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
PS: I've also notified JamesBWatson and Edgar181, but they haven't replied to me yet. - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 13:40, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- Will look into this, once my connection stabilises. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:56, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- Have done. Agree, looks like a hoax. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:12, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- How about the user itself? Again, it's unsourced edits and the fact that the articles he created look like some sort of "vanity" articles. - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 14:19, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- Again, agree. Don't see any productive edits. However, as the user isn't active right now (and has not received any warnings) I would be uncomfortable issuing a block at this time. If he returns and continues a similar editing pattern, and does not respond to warnings, please ping me. Will watchlist his page too. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:30, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello again. The user seems to be active once again, but again seems to ignore the warnings already given to him, both of them "final warnings" by me and JamesBWatson. Again, he didn't back his edits up. A Google search for "Freeview Arabia" that he is inserting only turns up with links to Wikipedia and nothing else. Not even an official website. So is it now ripe to block this user? Sorry to bother you at this hour. Thanks! - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 18:13, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- PS: Sorry if I have to move this section to the bottom. Just to make sure you'll reply to the above message. Thanks! - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 02:13, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
- And block is active for 48 hours. Next one will be a lot longer. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:40, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
They're baaaack!! See here, adding a New Zealand Logo to an Egyptian companies page?--220 of Borg 09:38, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
- As 22- had said above, the user came back and disregarded the messages. I've already made an ultimatum warning, but I don't he will read his messages. Warrant indifinite block now? Thanks. (PS: Sorry again to move this section to the bottom. Just to make sure you reply.) - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 10:03, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
- See someone got 'em already. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:19, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
- However, let's warn ourselves there's still a possibility that the user might go anon or go sock because of this. I've noted "Bang Habib" edits in the past in several articles even before this user registered his account in late August. (Pointing this out because I've had trouble with a Jakarta-based IP-hopping vandal who keeps putting false and ridiculous info on several anime, Hollywood movie studio, and telenovela-related articles.) - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 11:59, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
- If you see anything suspicious don't be afraid to ping me. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:24, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
