Red Plastic Park, known in Japan as Tonzura Kurenai Purasuchikku Paruko! (lit. "The Escape of Red Plastic Park!) is an unreleased videogame developed for the Atari 2600. The game was originally set to be released in Japan in 1984 before the company went into administration. An unofficial version for the Famicom was also under development[1], but cancelled; however, several partially complete prototype cartridges are in circulation.[1]
Story
[edit]You find yourself on an a mysterious island with no recollection of events leading to your arrival. You have on your possession a skeleton key and the ability to control certain natural forces. There are several others on the island that communicate in riddles and uncomprehensible haikus. Ships cannot leave the island, you are told, because of unchartered waters surrounding it. You must find an escape from the island.
Gameplay
[edit]Red Plastic Park plays out in a two-mode dynamic. The majority of the story takes place in a top-down perspective, changing to a graphical adventure style viewpoint in certain environments. Unlike many adventure games, there is no health counter and no score can be achieved. The gameplay focuses on exploration; the more inhabitants you meet - the more sense your adventure makes and the further you can progress. Several aspects of the game are red herrings, many of the characters will ask you riddles that cannot be solved, ask for items that cannot be obtained and give you items that do not help you advance. Much of the dialogue can be difficult to understand due to issues with translation.[3] There are five primary areas: the North Coast, the East Winds, The South Tail, The West Cove and the Uroboros Forest.
