Sponsor Names

Hello. I couldn't agree more. I hate sponsors' names and I think it would help if every tournament had a basic or generic name. The English cricket knockout cup has been stuck with a sponsor name since it started and is now on its third. I intend to write an article about NZ cricket up to the start of the Plunket Shield: I've done the same with a few of the other countries and intend to get them all "started" in this way. The Ken Harrison page you have had deleted, will now need to be recreated as he is the leader of the largest pentecostal Christian denomination in New Zealand and is therefore of sufficient public notoriety and national influence to warrant an individual entry in Wikipedia. Please read all articles carefully before tagging for deletion.

And if the article doesn't have any independent reliable sources, it will probably get deleted again, as Wikipedia policy is that unsourced material should be removed. (And if your claim above is correct, the article was badly worded as it made him sound like the pastor of a single congregation). Deletion could have easily been avoided by fixing the article or removing the template - {{prod}} is a very weak form of nomination, easily overturned. dramatic 10:54, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, how can you have a more reliable source to verify a person's role within an organisation than the organisation itself, (which was the source of reference used in this case)? In these cases it seems to me that an independent reference source would be inappropriate as they would lack authority to make a statement on the matter.

I've just noticed that you have edited the GSDRT page I have made, by adding a reference tag and most of all removing the NZIF link. Please note that it is not advertising, rather a mean to give credits to Danny de Hek, who hosts the GSDRT's website for free out of goodwill and gratitude.

If you don't mind, I'd like to re-edit the page, as with the GSDRT, the Trust is not yet nation-widely known, and therefore I cannot link to any websites mentioning the Trust. Furthermore, Danny's charity of providing the Trust an online center deserves a little recognition. I hope you can see where I am coming from.

Merge of History of the Highlanders into Highlanders

I don't think the merge is necessary, and I'm not going to rehash over all my arguments here. However I don't want to see a merge just for a split to occur further down the line. You mentioned Crusaders (rugby), well I was one of main contributors that got the article to FA status, and at the FAC (you can view it here) it was suggested the history section of Crusaders (rugby) be split off because of it's length! All I'm trying to do is avoid that here. Also, in the future if you are going to propose a merge between two articles you may want to try and notify the primary authors on their talk pages. Pharmacy school

I don't know that pharmacy school is any better or worse than pharmacy training (we have law school, medical school, veterinary school, etc.) As long as one redirects into the other, I would think that would be sufficient. Regarding references, the text comes from Pharmacist primarily. There was an enormous amount of pharmacy training/education information in the pharmacist article, so while I was working on Academic institution I cleaned up a bit. Yes, on the basis of inertia alone (There are 200 articles in this series, with about 50 names in each). Seriously, when someone first did it last year, it made the pages much easier to read, given the heavy linking. We (WikiProject:New Zealand) are still in the process of bolding links. Netball stubs and WikiProject

Figures ... I swear I checked the WP:WSS/P page when I first saw the stub template, but that must have been just before you reported it there. And I didn't bother to check it again afterwards. Sorry about that.

The WikiProject sounds good, and though there aren't many people who update netball articles, I imagine that even a few dedicated editors can greatly improve netball coverage on Wikipedia. With such a small number of netball articles at present, and comparatively little available information from which to create more, the WikiProject has the potential to drift into inactivity about 6–12 months from now. netball-stub image

I thought I already did, over at WSS/P: shorter image, please! I realize it seems like a very pettifogging point, but where there's multi-stubbing, assorted sizes of stub icons on a page looks very messy and jumbled indeed, and if people keep randomly embiggening their stub icons to fit the aspect ratio of their source image, or personal taste, we'll end up with both a real rag-bag, and likely "size wars" to boot. The floated image looks clearer but now the text appears top-aligned. This might be a somewhat bigger problem than the image size. It's not the browser that does the resizing, it's the image server. But yes, if the starting image is itself small, resizing is going to be a fairly lossy operation. Better to start with a significantly larger one. Alai (talk) 02:29, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Itchy trigger Finger

My work also suffered the Bias of 'Dramatic' where my research, time, and effort on eeecurrency was completely deleted, yet articles such as e-bullion and Liberty Reserve (which came after eeecurrency) remain intact, and not even questioned at all. Yet the same applies to them per your statement:

"From the moment you start an article, you should be providing references for what you write, and these must be from Reliable sources - e.g. independent journalism in authoritative publications, no blog or forum posts and nothing based on material written by the subject. If you cannot find such sources, then the topic is not notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia."

With out that being applied to others, I couldn't help but think, "is this the work of a hater of that system or my work?". Suspecting that I'm the victom of an antagonist, or proponent of some other cause could be true, but may be over-reacting with out proof.

By the way, eeecurrency was mentioned in the article "Electronic_money" and was replaced by Liberty Reserve, whereas the eeecurrency article was much more extensive, yet the latter one remains.

Firstly, I did not delete the article. I nominated it for consideration and a more experienced editor, an administrator (user:Kylu) reviewed and deleted it. It might be a criticism of Wikipedia that it is a much simpler process to nominate an article for speedy deletion than for a fully contested deletion debate. If you believe the article should be reinstated you are more than welcome to take it to Wikipedia:Deletion review where an open team of experienced editors will examine the case.

The article only appeared on my radar because it mentioned New Zealand and I patrol new pages which mention New Zealand. I checked out the NZ reference and could not verify it - indeed it seemed to contradict everthing I could find. Of the online sources, the eeecurrency.com site was very amateurish, had a broken secure certificate and made contradictory claims. Online discussion of eeecurrency seemed very skeptical, the primary exchanger only claimed to have transferred $5000 in 6 years and there was a complete lack of reputable-source coverage. It was easy to conclude that this was not notable and might even have been some form of Ponzi scheme, in which case it was potentially damaging for Wikipedia to give it any form of credibility. You should also be aware that other stuff exists is not a valid argument around here. The length of Liberty Reserve is entirely appropriate given its referencing. My philosphy is basically inclusionist, but if Wikipedia is to gain respect as a source, core policies of neutrality and Verifiability must be adhered to. dramatic (talk) 22:42, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

You make some valid points. Some I agree with and some I don't. I certainly understand your interest now.

By the way, if you're going to judge a site or system by it's graphics, you must realize that wikipedia itself is rather spartan. And that's ok. I use it AND eeecurrency, as they are serving their purpose for me. eee > VPN payment > wikipedia login.

Anyway, I'm sure you know a poorly run business does not make it a scam or scheme in a negative sense, and it was hard to not get the sense that you were being negatively critical of their system or my work.

You speak of their primary exchanger only transferring $5000 in 6 years, yet I see over $1,000,000 USD tabulated at the bottom of their primary exchangers page. I only point this out to not our differences data, thus our differences in perspectives.

Thanks for pointing out that you only nominated it. "Only the prosecutor", if you will. I still don't see how my work is included in your criteria "independent journalism in authoritative publications" and e-Bullion and Liberty Reserve is not, riding solely on "The length of Liberty Reserve is entirely appropriate given its referencing" and your ONLINE findings AGAINST eeecurrency. Seems hypocritical on two fronts: Prejudicial application of your criteria because of their original association with New Zealand (I contacted them and they came to my talk page and explained) and finding that eeeCurrency is/was not the only article included, yet not up for deletion, based solely on "...its referencing".

My argument is for my work, not for eeecurrency. If we are to remain unbiased, my work should get the same treatment and editing as any others.

By the way, you're actually giving me an opportunity to read more about how wikipedia works and actually learn something here. I am passionate about my interests, as I suspect many contributors of wikipedia are. I just have to remember to put unbiased information and/or wikipedia 1st. I want the same from others (you too) as I endeavor to do so.

Years in New Zealand

An anon has made a rather pointed observation in 1993 in New Zealand. What do you think about removing such empty summary sections entirely from this series of articles? Any summary should actually go before any section to form a lede, so having an empty section called "summary" seems useless. If you agree, I'm happy to go through the 208 articles and remove the sections, unless any have content, of course. If you think this needs a wider discussion, I'll raise it on the New Zealand Wikipedian's notice board.-gadfium 19:18, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

I think you're right - the empty summaries are pointless, and it is hard to write one without violating Wikipedia rules - sources which discuss the country in general historical terms seldom talk about single years. Otherwise it becomes a value judgement of which bits and pieces from the article are most important. Piperidylthiambutene

I meant what it says; this compound is not listed as an illegal drug in any jurisdiction, but if its legality were to be considered by the relevant authorities in countries such as the USA, Australia or New Zealand which have a controlled substance analogues act, then the case law suggests that it would be found to be "substantially similar" in both chemical structure and pharmacological effects to drugs which are illegal (i.e. diethylthiambutene). The law in this area is notoriously vague and it is not possible to say for certain that piperidylthiambutene would be found to be a controlled substance analogue, but on the other hand it is likely that it would be. However I agree that the wording is not ideal, and if you think this sentence should be changed then go for it, or I'll do it if you can suggest a better wording? Saw your comment on Gadfium's talk about whakapapa. To me the best argument for the inclusion (within reason) of whakapapa with iwi articles is that iwi are by definition defined by genealogy. It's not that we Māori need to say who we are on every occasion, it's just that you cannot talk about an iwi without some kind of genealogy, since iwi are just families grown large. Hi D - the article "Amuri, New Zealand" was originally about a settlement in the Cook Islands, and when i moved it I discovered that some 0of the links were referring to an Amuri in north Canterbury. I couldn't find out much about the place - it may not be an official name - but teher were one or two references (like this and this). looks like it may be an unofficial name for an area round Hanmer Springs though - if you feel it's AFD material, go ahead.
