Spam in DataTag

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on DataTag, by Angus Lepper (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because DataTag is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting DataTag, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 20:43, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DataTag

[edit]

I apologise for the inconvenience of having this article deleted, but at the time that I saw it, it read like an advertisement for the company (one of the main things that's necessary to avoid an article sounding like an advertisement is to pick the right tone). At least 9 out of 10 times, it actually is an advert — but sometimes, as in this case, it isn't, and is actually a genuine new user trying to build an article amongst a daunting stack of bureaucracy. I can't remember the exact content of the page now, but if you're sure that the item fulfils our notability requirements (requiring some coverage in media other than the company's output) and that you can ensure that all information in the article is verifiable, then I'd be willing to work with you to see if I think we can get the article into a state such that it stays up. Thank You! Once again it took me quite a while to figure out how to continue our conversation. What should I do next? Should I rewrite the information that was given to me by the company that made this product, and then resubmit it like a new topic, or is there some way to edit the page I previously created? I thank you for your time and direction.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Emt bayarea (talkcontribs).

There isn't an easy method of editing a page that's been deleted (you'd need to get an administrator to undelete the page), so I think the easiest thing to do would be to create a new page at DataTag, using the information you've got at the moment. I'll keep an eye on it, to check that the tone's alright, and add anything I can find via Google.
Just as a matter of procedure, you should usually sign posts on 'talk'/discussion pages (not the article pages) using four tildes (~~~~) as this will insert a timestamp and a link to your userpage, which helps other users follow conversations (also, replies to messages are usually indented using a series of colons (one : per 'level' of indent) as a sort of 'threading' of discussions). Signing your posts isn't quite as important on your talk page (this page), but it's still good form.
If you need any other help, feel free to just post on this page, I've added it to my watchlist (so I can see any updates to this page without having to manually check it). Angus Lepper(T, C, D) 14:41, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DataTag

[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article DataTag, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}.
