Request

Hello, Explicit. Could you kindly consider restoring this file for Payam-e-Insaniyat? Thanks.–MinisterOfReligion (Talk) 04:13, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

@Owais Al Qarni: Hi, I have restored the logo and added it to the article. plicit 11:42, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
Thanks.–MinisterOfReligion (Talk) 12:17, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

I had nominated this as F7, as at least to so far as I could see, it was very clearly replaceable with the article text. You declined the F7, with the edit summary "Declined deletion - try WP:FFD". [1] I'll probably do that, but before I do, I think I would like a bit more detailed feedback so I know what to address. What made you think that the file was not replaceable by the text? Seraphimblade Talk to me 00:27, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

@Seraphimblade: Please see the above section. I originally deleted the file in accordance with WP:CSD#G4, which was restored by a different admin at WP:REFUND. On that basis alone, this requires a discussion at FFD. plicit 00:33, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
I would actually agree that the G4 deletion was wrong, as it was not identical. But that has nothing to do with F7; that's just a determination of replaceability. Seraphimblade Talk to me 00:43, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Deletion of my sandbox

Hello,

As you may have guessed, I am a fan of The Amazing Race. As such, I have made custom routes, and I thought Wikipedia was a safe spot for me to expand on them and make them feel like actual routes. I have been adding to this since around 2020 and working hard on it. Why you deleted my page just now is a bit confusing. I was unaware that the section of what Wikipedia wasn't applied to my personal sandbox. I understand on keeping Wikipedia encyclopedic, but it's not like people are going to do research on my sandbox. I could understand if it were an actual page, but it isn't.

Best,

ButI'llBeThereNextTime (talk) 13:48, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

If I can't have the page on Wikipedia, can I at least be able to view it before it got deleted? ButI'llBeThereNextTime (talk) 16:25, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

@ButI'llBeThereNextTime: Hi, first, it is likely that no one had noticed your sandbox because... well, it's your sandbox and out of view. I am not sure how the editor who nominated it for deletion found it, so that's a question to ask them. Regarding the content itself, please see the user page guidelines, which applies to all of your userspace. As it states there, you are allowed to host content related to Wikipedia and a small amount of suitable unrelated material. 100,000 bytes of fan-made The Amazing Race routes is not that. I have made the content available at this link, which will expire in one week. plicit 23:42, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Okay, thank you. ButI'llBeThereNextTime (talk) 13:10, 3 August 2023 (UTC)

Weird duplicate lists being kept?

Hi, how exactly are List of animated feature films from pre-1940s-present and List of animated feature films from pre-1940s-1960s acceptable articles? Both are entirely copied and cobbled together from various Lists of animated films (an article the creator of these two has also done some odd work on) by year (they both even have dated issues from 2021 despite being created today) and the former is over a megabyte in size and currently the second largest page on wikipedia (which is how i noticed it). They seem misguided and redundant at best and someone thinking wikipedia is their playground at worse, but you're saying these are okay to keep? Ringtail Raider (talk) 07:25, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

@Ringtail Raider: The deletion of these lists was declined on the basis that they don't meet any of the criteria for speedy deletion. You are free nominate them for deletion by other means, like WP:PROD or WP:AFD, or find an alternative to deletion. plicit 07:51, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

Re-creation of file page Coolbinia Football Club colours

Hey,

You deleted the file page Coolbinia Football Club colours a while back because it didn't have the correct licensing information. I was unfamiliar with how to correctly apply this before and am now aware of the correct way to do so, could you please restore the page so that I can re-upload the image with the correct licensing?

Thanks Mrchikkin (talk) 10:41, 3 August 2023 (UTC)

Accessing A Deleted Article for Research

Hi Explicit,

I just made an account to ask for your help with something. I'm currently conducting research on Linden Lab for a Video Essay / Edutainment project, and was researching their involvement around the development of the game Alliance: The Silent War. I had originally started this project back in 2020, and back then, there was a Wikipedia page that covered A:TSW. I used that page and its sources with a motley of other sources I've gathered in my research. However, I had dropped the project by the end of 2020, and in 2021 you've deleted it for not meeting WP:GNG guidelines.

I'm now retracing the paper trail I left in 2020, and was wondering if you could assist me in a small task. I've read before that admins can still view deleted articles; Is there a way you can allow me to view the Alliance: The Silent War article? Or otherwise give me details of the sources that was cited in this page?

Thank you for your concern,

Cliff Ricks (talk) 04:06, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

@Cliff Ricks: Hi, a copy of the article will be viewable here for one week before expiring. plicit 12:02, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

I was about to comment on this discussion and was in the process of working on a revision adding significant SIGCOV from database sources before you moved to delete. My revision is at User:Sammi Brie/ENPS for the moment. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 01:02, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

I removed a db-catempty of yours

Hi! You added a {{db-catempty}} to Category:Children's rights in Bangladesh some days ago, 71 minutes after its sole member Kamal Uddin Siddiqui was removed from the category. It took me a couple of hours to find the removed article. When this was done, it was easy to see that the removal of the category was not motivated from textual or factual changes, but probably just an efffect of a mistake in adding a new category. I thus left the new one, but also restored the Children's rights one. Since the db-catempty message stated that the template could be removed, if the category was no longer empty, I did so.

Two comments:

  1. I suspect that you have access to some automatised reports about newly emptied categories. Is this correct? If so, do you know if such reports also could be used for finding out the name of the last item being deleted from that category?
  2. In my work with various ombudsman related articles, I've tried to get a better structure of them. This sometimes has lead to the creation of some categories with rather small numbers of members (but rarely just one article...). However, I believe that this in general has been beneficial, and has made it more clear that `ombudsmanning' nowadays to a high extent is an international activity, but also often rather different in different legislations. If you wish to discuss this on a more general basis as a possible case of overcategorisation, I'm prepared to do so. Regards,JoergenB (talk) 22:57, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
@Jax 0677: You added a {{+C}} to this section, here. I cannot see why, and suspect that it was a mistake. I hence remove it.
Explicit, the first question in my first remark remains unanswered; the second has been more or less answered. (@Liz:, thank you!) JoergenB (talk) 17:27, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
@JoergenB: Oops, sorry for the lack of response. It doesn't happen often, but this thread must have slipped through the cracks. Empty categories are listed at Wikipedia:Database reports/Empty categories. I am not aware of knowing the last item removed from a category. The best I can think of is Googling the category name and checking the cached version. plicit 00:05, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, Explicit! (As for the second question, Liz tipped me about a javascript tool doing this, namely, User:Nardog/CatChangesViewer. I've installed it, and it does work quite nicely.) JoergenB (talk) 12:46, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

Hey mate, the page "Emre Gökay" was deleted due to consensus a couple of months ago and you rightfully deleted it. I've found a couple more high quality sources and think it would clearly pass GNG, is it possible to restore it and I can adjust? Deletion of Airline Destinations

Hello. I noticed that you deleted a number of Airline Destination lists, which is fine, but this means that many articles are now missing the destination table (ex: United Express). How should this be handled? Cherrell410(t · c) 21:36, 14 August 2023 (UTC)

@Cherrell410: Hi, you can simply remove the {{further|List of United Express destinations}} bits from the articles. The tool which usually unlinks articles upon their deletion is unable to deal with links formatted this way, for whatever reason. plicit 00:52, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

Deletion of 2022 Haruku Island riot

Hi, good evening. I apologize for bothering you, but I disagree with immediat deletion of this page 2022 Haruku Island riot.

While I agree Jellywings, the banned user, made mostly unconstructive edit (I had to deal with them myself in Dortheys Hiyo Eluay International Airport article among others), I disagree with the deletion of this page simply because it was created by them. According to deletion policy G5, deletion should only be done when the only major contributor of said article was the said banned user. However, I myself expanded and added significantly to this article previously and it was notable enough in my opinion, and that the banned user's addition in this particular page was not harmful.

However, I would like to hear your opinion first before moving to whether undeletion should be done.

Thank you Nyanardsan (talk) 13:14, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

@Nyanardsan: Hi, I looked over your edits to this article again and I still do not see anything that could possibly be classified as substantial edits. Of the five edits you made, the last three were particularly minor changes.
  • close to the boundaries between the two villagesclose to the boundaries between the villages
  • 25 January 2022 o'clock 14:30 Eastern Indonesia Time25 January 2022 on 14:30 Eastern Indonesia Time
  • In addition, police personnel of Kariu village originIn addition, police personnels of Kariu origin
In your first edit, you stated in the edit summary, "CE, negara in Maluku context is legal tribal village in accordance of regional laws, TNI-Polri should be clarified as military and police since foreign readers might be unfamiliar with Indonesian terms. Please do not directly use machine translation of Indonesian article and put it directly into enwiki article." In this edit, you altered a couple of lines that used "TNI" and "Polri" and replaced them "military" and "police", respectively, while also producing similarly small wording changes in this and the second edit, similar to those noted above.
There were no edits by you or any other contributor that actually added any new content to this article. plicit 13:42, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

FFD question

On Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2023 August 16#File:Jonathan ingram at a confrence in 2017.png, you deleted 3 of the 10 images listed there, but not the other 7. And the bot has now closed the discussion. Can you delete the other 7, too- there's clear consensus on that discussion to delete all? Joseph2302 (talk) 08:05, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

@Joseph2302: The first three files were deleted as a result of Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2023 August 13#File:Popular Punjabi Paratha House.jpeg. I have no idea why they were listed on two separate logs. The August 16 discussion doesn't expire until tomorrow, so I've just swapped out the red link with a blue link in the header, so the bot shouldn't close the discussion again. plicit 11:40, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I see that City of Victor Harbour was previously deleted by you as it was created by a block evading user. Hello there! I see you've been quite active in some things related to the above mentioned pages. I'm pinging you @Explicit: directly to ask for some help. I've started 3 initiatives for these pages. If you could spare some time in the near future, could you please take a look at the proposal and voice your opinion? Of course, if you have interest, time, and energy to participate that would be amazing!

Here are the projects:

1. Talk:Philosophical_pessimism#A proposal for an overhaul of the article — this initiative is already in progress. The idea is to raise the quality of the page by switching it from a mere historical account to a more encyclopedic format.

2. Talk:Philosophical_pessimism#A proposal to split the History into a dedicated page — related to the one above. The historical account is overly detailed. It would be much better to have a dedicated page for the history of philosophical pessimism and leave only a brief history in the main page.

3. Talk:Antinatalism#A proposal to create a dedicated page for Benatar's axiological asymmetry — here, the idea is to extract the axiological asymmetry argument into a dedicated page. This way, a more detailed presentation could be given. In addition, we could expand on the various responses others philosophers made and counters from Benatar. Other pages could have a brief description and link to the details page.

I hope at least some of this will spark your interest! Fantastiera (talk) 14:05, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

@Cksound: Hi, could you please link the relevant page? Christian Krauter has never existed. plicit 13:06, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
Hi, the page disappeared on Wikipedia and I could trace the deletion back to you. On wikitia the page is still online and as a proof the draft existed. And after I declined an offer the put the draft article live and for a fee of USD4,200.00 suddenly it vanished. This offer was send direct to me in an email by an Wikipedia admin editor. Wikitia only publishes content from Wikipedia so the draft existed https://urlis.net/sq7ftyxs Cksound (talk) 23:44, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
@Cksound: Ah, it was the draft page Draft:Christian Krauter. Done – as a draft or Articles for creation submission deleted under CSD G13, the page has been restored upon request. They are not for the indefinite hosting of material that is unsuitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. Please continue to work on the draft so that it meets Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for inclusion, prior to another six months elapsing. plicit 00:06, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. I will be working on the draft and meet the guidelines of Wikipedia. Cksound (talk) 00:57, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

Please restore File:El Torito mural by Amado de la Cueva.jpg

Hi Explicit, Please help me restore this file. Deletion was requested because some user thought words are enough to illustrate the article so that file is not justified as Fair use. However I think this file is very useful on an article that right now has no image whatsoever. Besides the article is about an artist and his artwork so this file illustrate it just fine. The artwork pictured itself (a mural in a public place) falls into Freedom of panorama applicable in Mexico and a Bot has already reduced file resolution for better suit Fair use. If you think my file description is wrong please help me improve it. Thank you! Mizaelc (talk) 00:15, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

@Mizaelc: Hi, I had prepared a response to this, but then realized that Amado de la Cueva died in 1926. If this mural was completed in Mexico by the time of his death, then it seems that it's a candidate for Commons with the license c:Template:PD-Mexico. plicit 12:38, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
Thank you so much Explicit, you are absolutely right. I wasn't aware of this law terms but now am thinking this artwork is a perfect candidate for Commons. Will upload it there. Mizaelc (talk) 14:15, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

I appreciate the deletion of Draft:El Goonish Shive

The page was in such a sorry state that I don't blame you for deleting it. And in any case, if I ever decide to re-create it, I can, although that is pretty unlikely. Historyday01 (talk) 14:23, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Rarrri Dream Draft Deletion

Hi @Explict I am requesting the restoration with the Draft Rarri Dream I have conflict of Interest. I understand that it was nominated for deletion by you and others and but me and other contributors have worked hard to type the draft up and though it didn't meet wikipedia's guidelines at that moment I promise that with the page's restoration that me and other moderators will insure that we will work hard until the page has met wikipedia's guidelines and is really ready for submission with the correct amount of important notable references before it willl be submitted to the AfC

@plicit can I at least get a response from you? about the question I have for the deleted draft "Rarri Dream" JoshKaine (talk) 16:54, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

@JoshKaine: The draft was deleted as a result of Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Draft:Rarri Dream. I have no authority to overturn consensus upon your request. You'll have to make sure case at WP:DRV. plicit 23:26, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion request

Hi Explict,

I tagged A Little Frog Is looking for His Father for speedy deletion as it was the original page name prior to the sock’s move, and MediaWiki wasn’t letting me move the page back while that redirect existed.

Would it be better for me to request that the page is moved back at WP:RM, rather than to request speedy deletion and then move the page back myself?

All the best, user:A smart kittenmeow 12:21, 16 September 2023 (UTC)

For completeness: it’s the same situation with Ded Moroz and Summer and Seryi Volk & Krasnaya Shapochka. user:A smart kittenmeow 12:23, 16 September 2023 (UTC)

@A smart kitten: Hi, I've deleted these redirects to facilitate the page moves. Since these cases aren't so straight forward, posting at WP:RM would be the better venue to request similar page moves. plicit 12:28, 16 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, and for deleting them - if I come across any more situations like that, I’ll take them to RM instead of tagging with CSD

Deletion of a GAN page

Hi Explicit, hope you're well. I just saw Talk:Nihachu/GA1 pop up on my watchlist as a G8 -- I quickfailed that article a while back at GAN and I see it's just been AfDed. Not a huge surprise, and no qualms with the AfD proper, but I keep a personal archive of my GA reviews and would like that one refunded if possible/tagged G8-exempt. No worries if you can't, and hope you have a good day. Vaticidalprophet 00:15, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Request to restore article for Christopher Schläffer

Dear @Explicit, I see that you have deleted the article for Christopher Schlaeffer on sep 6, 2023. May I kindly request to restore this article as it meets all relevant notability guidelines and is be attributed to reliable sources throughout the text. The 4 areas highlighted to be needing additional sources during the deletion discussion have all been attributed with reliable sources. In terms of notability, Christopher Schlaeffer has been - amongst many other distinctions - awarded the prestigious "Manager of the Year" award of the Vienna University of Economics for his lifetime achievements in technology (Android operating system, introduction of iPhone, serial entrepreneur), business and activism (Amnesty International, iamthecode.org). He is on of the outstanding pioneers in tech and clearly worth this contribution on Wikipedia. Thank you very much for considering this request in due course Verify.now (talk) 15:07, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

@Verify.now: Hi, since the page was deleted as a result of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Christopher Schläffer, I cannot unilaterally undelete the page. You will need to address the concerns raised at the deletion discussion and prove that the subject meets notability guidelines. You are free to work on a draft and submit your work through the articles for creation process. plicit 23:40, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
Dear @Explicit, thank you for your note. I am unfortunately no editor nor the author of this article. So I am not in a position to work on a new draft which could in any way meet the substance the deleted article had. Also in the deletion discussion it clearly states "Please do not modify" after your decision to delete. Given that the comments leading to deletion where not substantiated ("no notability", "no reliable sources") and the opposite is fact in the deleted article, I would ask you as the editor responsible for the deletion decision to review the deletion discussion. I am convinced your decision will be to undelete the page, which I duly request. Verify.now (talk) 22:16, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
@ExplicitCould you please respond to my request. This article was online for more than a decade and deleting it without sufficient due diligence is not good practice. Verify.now (talk) 18:43, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
@Verify.now: As I stated above, I do not have the authority to restore a page which was deleted by consensus reached during a deletion debate. You are free to make your case at deletion review. plicit 23:37, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
You got the authority:
Consider attempting to discuss the matter with the closer as this could resolve the matter more quickly. There could have been a mistake, miscommunication, or misunderstanding, and a full review may not be needed. 2A02:3035:9:1599:1:1:1978:4A67 (talk) 13:17, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
@ExplicitIt seems you have the authority. May I request one final time to restore the page please. Verify.now (talk) 10:11, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Closure of Dancing Stars (Austrian season 6) AfD

Hey Explicit, I'd like to contest the closure of the articles I nominated here. I disagree with the no-consensus outcome, given that the one 'keep' didn't counter or resolve the conflict with the NOTSTATS policy. It was a promise to getting around to fixing the article, not an argument for why it doesn't violate NOTSTATS. (Implicitly, though, there is an acknowledgement that it does violate the policy.) So, would you reconsider? SWinxy (talk) 00:45, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

@SWinxy: I have just relisted it again. plicit 06:39, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Request to restore article for Naijatastic

Hello @Explicit, as you may have already been aware since I tagged you on some Wikipedia talk pages to complain about your deletion of the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Naijatastic wikipedia page, but haven't gotten a response from you. I would like to affirm that you have made a mistake on this decision. You even stated in your comment that this was tricky for you but you went ahead with the deletion from a nomination decision of an admin who is creating a competitor music website - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naijaloaded page on Wikipedia and heavily editing this page even a few days ago. The Naijatastic page was deleted within 2-3 days after discussion for deletion. Are you not aware that admins can gang up to make discussions on deleting a page within 24-72 hours with the sole aim of deleting it with implicit bias? I'm very sure that this was the case for Naijatastic. The Naijatastic website was even used as references on other wikipedia pages.. e.g., Korede Bello and Made in Africa - Check and confirm my claim. Please review this decision and reconsider re-publishing the Naijatastic page on Wikipedia. Pandaxo (talk) 18:25, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The deletion was proposed for seven days, not 24-72 hours. And there was no ganging up here - the decision to delete was unanimous and will almost certainly not be overturned here. * Pppery * it has begun... 01:39, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Deletion review: Monash Student Association

Hi @Explicit, requesting your views on reversing the decision to delete article regarding Monash Student Association (no redirect) - [3]. Concerns raised at the time related to lack of sources establishing notability, despite there being a significant depth and breadth of coverage establishing the organisation's notability in national and state media: [4][5] [6][7][8][9]

Nothing stops you from editing the same draft as it is. The draft was "rejected", which means that the AfC reviewers (most recently S0091) thought the topic was inherently non-notable and resubmissions would be futile. Make of that what you will. * Pppery * it has begun... 21:00, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

Haya Kay Rang deletion

This redirect was just G5'd, for the third time. It came to my attention because I just reviewed it as a new page. I'm not sure who nominated it (I think I know and am raising it with them also), but you did the deletion, so here I am. I'll assume that the G5 was valid and the user was a sock/block-evader, but I can't help feeling that the redirect itself was sensible. I'm tempted to recreate it, with a slightly different target of List of programs broadcast by ARY Zindagi because that actually mentions Haya Kay Rang. There are currently several redlinks dangling out there. Just checking before I step on too many toes or miss something important. Lithopsian (talk) 14:32, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

@Lithopsian: You are free to recreate the page. G5 only applies to the sockpuppet's edits and has no bearing on that of others. plicit 14:35, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Chemical DAB talk pages

Hello! I wanted to go through and ask about a number of talk pages that you deleted. Last month, I sent a talk-page message to User:Hamtrane, linking some talk pages that were miscategorized within WikiProjects, at User talk:Hamtrane#Please do not label chemical disambiguation pages as "core" to WikiProject Chemicals. There were a number of these which were correctly created with WikiProjects, and I'm pretty sure that I edited a good chunk that I came across. The only problem was that they were miscategorized as core articles, although it would still quite feasible to fix. If I could ask, because there's maybe 50 or so talk pages, how would a potential undeletion of these talk pages come about, if it is possible under policy? Thank you, Utopes (talk / cont) 09:56, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, didn’t mean to rollback this topic. On mobile! Just ignore. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 10:56, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
@Utopes: Hi, I took a look at your deleted contributions and did not find any edits to these deleted talk pages. I sampled a few of Hamtrane's deleted edits and the talk pages had no edits from other contributors. You are free to recreate them, as WP:CSD#G5 only applies to the sockpuppet's edits. Alternatively, I wouldn't mind recreating them myself with the help of WP:AWB. All I need is the correct content provided to me. plicit 12:11, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
I see, thank you. I stumbled onto the rabbit hole firstly at Talk:BrO, where I started understanding the scale of changes made, with the pages marked as vital and core. I definitely fixed that one, but wasn't sure how much left there was to tackle.
To that end, it also makes sense if I left the rest alone, because I wasn't looking forward to backtracking and fixing the errors. I'll recreate the talk pages if it was just Hamtrane's own edits, but I do have a small request: On Hamtrane's talk page message I linked, I identified three pages that met the criteria I was talking about, being Talk:C6H7NO3S, Talk:C8H10N2O3S, and Talk:C8H15NOS2. If you can recreate these three page, that would be most appreciated, as I'd like to reaffirm the context behind my message. I should be able to remake the rest afterwards 👍. Utopes (talk / cont) 22:35, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
@Utopes: I have created the talk pages, hopefully correctly. plicit 00:47, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! I notice that these are not labeled as core articles, I presume you made this fix independently? That's fine if so; I was just wondering what exactly needed to be adjusted from the originals that I brought up with Hamtrane, but if you did that already that saves me some effort. The talk pages do look good! Utopes (talk / cont) 00:59, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

Please draftify articles like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tess Cattle when most of the arguments are toosoon rather than definitely not notable. The-Pope (talk) 13:15, 16 October 2023 (UTC)

Invite to Join Wikipedia Asian Month 2023

You are receiving this message because you participated in the Wikipedia Asian Month 2022 as an organizer or editor.

Join the Wikipedia Asian Month 2023

Dear all,

The Wikipedia Asian Month 2023[1] is coming ! The campaign start within a flexible 30 days from November to December. Following with the changes of the rules made by last year, the wish to have more people get to know Asia and Asian related topic is the same! Click "Here" to Organize/Join a WAM Event.

1. Propose "Focus Theme" related to Asia !

If you are based somewhere in Asia, or have specific passion on an Asian topic, please propose your "Focus Theme" by October 25th. The WAM international team will select 5 themes. Please propose your focus theme through this link[2].

2. Enhancing existing articles can also count as part of campaign contribution.

Any edits, including creating new articles or adding new content to existing articles, over 3000 bytes in total would be able to get a reward. Last year, due to this change of rules, the Programs & Events Dashboard was suggested. However, according to community survey of 2022, Fountain Tool is still the best platform for tracking edit and points. You don’t need to create any Dashboard. For the tracking of editing existing article, the international team is currently designing a form. Will soon publish to the main page of WAM 2023.

3. More flexible campaign time

The contribution duration would remain 30days, but we extended the overall campaign timeline to 2 months. All organizers can decide when to start their WAM as long as the whole duration is within November 1st to December 31th. It means that you can participate in WAM based on the needs of your local community.

Timetable

  • October 1st, 2023 : Publish International Campaign Page of the Year
  • October 5th to 25th, 2023 : Call for focus themes of WAM 2023.
  • Before 29 October, 2023: Complete Registration [3] of Each language Wikipedia.
  • November 1st, UTC 00:00 to December 31th, UTC 00:00, 2023: Running the Campaign. (Find your local campaign for the actual event date.)
  • January 1st to March 15th, 2024: Auditing of each language Wikipedia.
  • March 30th, 2024: Deadline of reporting statistics and eligible editors to the International Team
  • April 1st to May 15th, 2024: The international team distributes Barnstars and Certificates to eligible editors of each event.

For your information, the main page of Wikipedia Asian Month is currently undertaking a reconstruction for archiving purpose. For the 2023 event please bookmarked this page. Articles for deletion/Woodstock Country School

Hello. You deleted a draft placeholder article I created on the topic "Woodstock Country School" after it was nominated for speedy deletion by @Minorax. It is true this was an empty article and I have been slow to build it out after creating the placeholder (which I believed, apparently incorrectly, was harmless for a draft). However I would like you to know I plan to create that article again once I am finished with my research and ready to write an initial draft. As reference for the notability of the topic, please see for example the volume "Woodstock Country School: A History of Institutional Denial" and the newspaper article "Woodstock Country School Shined Brightly, Briefly" Jakedlin (talk) 19:31, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

Articles for deletion/Emmanuel Daniel

Hello, I’m a Wikipedia contributor who has done work on several Wikipedia pages, such as the one for Emmanuel Daniel, founder of The Asian Banker, which was recently deleted in favour of a Nigerian footballer of the same name. I missed a notification in May pertaining to the article's discussion for deletion, to my regret, as I believe the entry has merit: Mr Daniel founded The Asian Banker (now TAB Global) in 1996, and the organisation has become a significant contributor to the financial services industry in APAC through journalism, research and events, and for establishing entities such as Wealth & Society, Radio Finance and others. As a journalist, Mr Daniel has interviewed significant figures in global finance and politics, including Mark Mobius, Barnie Frank and Chuck Prince, as well as prominent central bankers and former heads of state, many of whom have their own Wikipedia pages. Recently he has published his financial book The Great Transition on World Scientific press.

I believe that the page has been somewhat neglected in recent years and become stale, as links expired or changed, and would like an opportunity to update it to demonstrate notability to the satisfaction of Wikipedia standards - could this article please be restored to Draft space so that it can then be submitted for review to Article for Creation?

Hey. For The Gracies and the Birth of Vale Tudo, you declined it due to "previously deleted by PROD, ineligible again" but I literally checked every revision and didn't see it. What am I missing here? Is this something you can only see with an admin tool? Spagooder (talk) 14:48, 22 October 2023 (UTC)

@Spagooder: Hi, please see the deletion log. An article for this subject was previously deleted in 2014. plicit 00:32, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

Chesebro photo

Hoping you can explain why the Kenneth Chesebro mugshot was deleted. Thank you.

Utahredrock (talk) 01:52, 25 October 2023 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Hi Utahredrock. I'm not Explicit, but I'll try to answer your question. There are usually two issues that need to be resolved before uploading mugshot and using them in a Wikipedia article. The first has to do with the copyright status of the mugshot. They are almost always assumed to be protected by copyright unless it can be shown they're within the WP:PUBLICDOMAIN. Under US copyright law, for example, mugshots taken by US federal government employees as part of their official duties are within the public domain as explained in WP:PD#US government works, but those taken by state, county, city or other local government employees are not unless the state's copyright law specifies they are or the body that took the photo release them as such. Since The State of Georgia does not seem to be one of the US states that releases works created by its employess into the public domain per Harvard's State Copyright Resource Center, it probably should be assumed that Fulton County would own the copyright over the photo. This means it would need to be treated as non-free content per Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. Given that Kenneth Chesebro is still living and that non-free photos of still living persons are pretty much never allowed per item 1 of WP:NFC#UUI and WP:FREER, it seems unlikely that any non-free photo of him is every going to be allowed to uploaded and used on Wikipedia, particularly for primary identification purposes. For reference, this is why Explicit deleted the photo per WP:F7. Another issue related to using such photos has more to do with the contextual use of the photo per WP:MUG. Mugshot photos are generally discourage from being used in BLPs unless perhaps the subject's Wikipedia notability is pretty much entirely related to whatever crime they're accused of committing. Even then, such a photo doesn't seem to be allowed until the person has actually been convicted. That might be another reason to wait to use, at least not as the primary image at the top of the article, even a public domain mugshot of Chesebro (if one can be found) until a time when he is convicted of his crimes. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:10, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
thanks for this. Utahredrock (talk) 12:37, 25 October 2023 (UTC)

Misplaced AfD comment

Hi there, FYI this change - not sure if it would potentially change your close or not, but thought I'd give you the heads-up. Cheers, Daniel (talk) 08:26, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

@Daniel: Oh, wow. From the daily log page, that !vote looked like it was part of the discussion right above it. I have adjusted my closure as just "delete". Thanks for the heads up. plicit 13:26, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

Did you want to close this discussion?

Hello, I noticed you deleted File:Hockessin-Valuation.jpg but didn't actually close the FFD or delete the other image (namely File:Hockessin-Public-Valuation.jpg). Did you want to close it and delete it or not? Please clarify, thank you, — MATRIX! (a good person!)[Citation not needed at all; thank you very much!] 20:34, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

@Matrix: Hi, thanks for the reminder. I kept running into an error page when trying to delete the first file and ended up forgetting about it. A bot will come around and close the remaining discussions shortly. plicit 00:05, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

File:MiraShaib1.jpg

Hi Explicit. Can you check whether File:MiraShaib1.jpg is a reupload of File:MiraShaib.png? Both files were uploaded by the same person, with File:MiraShaib1.jpg being upload two days after you deleted File:MiraShaib.png per F9. Do you think File:MiraShaib1.jpg should be VRT verified even if it turns out to be a different file? -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:43, 25 October 2023 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Hi, this is a different photo than the deleted one. After doing a reverse image search, I found no evidence that this particular image was previously published elsewhere. Permission is only required if the uploader "has specified a license and has named a third party as the source/copyright holder without providing evidence that this third party has in fact agreed" (from WP:CSD#F11), which is not the case here. We have to assume good faith. plicit 06:42, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
Fair enough. Thanks for checking on this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:48, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
What do you think about File:Li Quan with Tiger.jpg? There's a vague claim of "own work" but the file appears to be attributed to the someone other that the uploader (they're possibly the subject of the photo). The same photo can be seen here with attribution to "©Save China's Tiger / CC BY-SA 2.5 – License". -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:47, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
@Marchjuly: This file does require permission as it cites Save China's Tigers as the source. plicit 13:26, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
Understand and thanks for taking a look. One last question. Do you think it the link I found above would be OK to add to the file's description even though that webpage is from 2023 and the file was uploaded in 2015? -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:00, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

I know this is from June, but I must note that speedy deleting File:Winterlink Group.png (a redirect to File:Winterink Group.png) as G6 was a very bad deletion. Firstly, per consensus (see WP:FILEREDIRECT) redirects from moves of files should generally not be deleted, and secondly the redirect was discussed at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 September 29#File:Winterlink Group.png with a consensus to keep. Pages that have been discussed at XfD with an outcome of anything other than delete can only be speedily deleted in very limited circumstances, and that never includes G6 (because the deletion cannot, by definition, be uncontroversial). Thryduulf (talk) 01:02, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

@Thryduulf: This was a local redirect to a Commons file. Such redirects are not capable of displaying media files. plicit 01:36, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

FYI: Bad CSD R3 of Timiș (disambiguation

I was in the middle of looking at the situation around that redirect when you deleted it. Since the redirect had existed since 2010 at Timiș (disambiguation) before a page mover "accidentally" moved it to the typo title while trying to move Timiș to Timiș (disambiguation), it seems to me that it was ineligible for R3 but would have been fine as a {{db-moved}} G6. Sure, the end result is deletion either way, but having a correct reason rather than an incorrect one in the log is nice. Anomie 12:22, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

@Anomie: Thanks for the note. A lot of these kinds of page moves seem to be occurring more frequently. I really wish non-admins would allow admins to do these kinds of actions instead of trying to deal with these themselves. plicit 12:32, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

Peru Copa América record

Hey, hope you are well,

I wondered if you could help me out with a template you deleted (Template:Peru Copa América record). I'm not asking for it to be recreated as I fully agree with the outcome of the discussion. The issue is that I don't think it was substituted before if was deleted. I'm not sure on the full edit history of the template as I was unaware of the TfD until today but I had updated the template in August to comply with MOS:FLAGS but the version that was added to the Peru national football team article was the previous, non-compliant version. Would it be possible, to save a bit of time, to substitute the MOS compliant version? I don't know how this works after it has been deleted so I would appreciate any guidance you can give. If would need to be recreated to do that, I'd be happy for it to be done through userspace (eg- User:Stevie fae Scotland/Peru Copa América record or similar) and I am happy to assist with replacing the non-compliant version.

Thanks, Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 10:30, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

@Stevie fae Scotland: Hi, it seems that Template:Peru Copa América record was removed from the article in this edit, which actually took place before the template was even nominated for deletion. I have made a copy of the template code available here for one week before it expires. plicit 12:32, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you very much for that. Unfortunately, it looks like someone has edited the template after I had updated it as it is back to using {{flagicon}} rather than {{flag}}. A bit frustrating but I guess I'll just need to start over. I really appreciate your help with this though. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 13:12, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

Deletion restore

Hi Explicit,

This was closed as a delete, I think a redirect-close would have been better considering the similar action done for other AfDs from the franchise (e.g. this and this among others).

Would help with wikilinking and cats, if it can be restored as an rd or draft.

Thanks Gotitbro (talk) 06:53, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

@Gotitbro: Hi, I have restored the page and redirected it to YRF Spy Universe. plicit 03:52, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Thank you for your work at Afds. You closed that particular one as soft delete because of no quorum. I was just wondering if perhaps you hadn't noticed my R-!vote, which would explain why you chose that solution without a relist for example (my understanding of no quorum is it can't be applied in case anyone has expressed a non-D !vote, even if it is the opinion that redirect might be a proper outcome). If that is the case, I am inviting you to decide what you think is the best and simplest solution. Feel free to ping me if you want me to redirect the page myself. Thank you again. Best, -My, oh my! Charlotte Fleming

Her Wiki page should not be deleted. Only reason she is not in the sports news much is because of a serious knee injury concerning meniscus and torn acl which has seen her out of action for over a year followed by the recovery process of gradually starting to play again. She is now signed with Watford FC women and has just played her first team game. Her career begins again and there will be many contributions to her wiki page as she is an extremely talented player who has captained England in her teenage years, come through the Chelsea academy and played in the Chelsea first team, followed by a move to Leicester City, then to London City Lionesses where she sustained her seriois injury. She is still only 21 and will go far in this game. Expect to see her in the England Lionesses within the next few years. I understand but with her career beginning to take off again after serious injury maybe some help could be given here by letting this decision be reversed. Pi1716 (talk) 14:56, 6 November 2023 (UTC)
