Wikipedia Day NYC is back in-person at Jefferson Market Library, cake included! You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our Wikipedia Day 2023 at Jefferson Market Library in Greenwich Village, a Wikipedia and Public Domain Day celebration and mini-conference as part of birthday festivities marking the project's founding in 2001. In addition to the party, the event features presentations by Jason Scott of the Internet Archive and Anne Hunnell Chen of the International (Digital) Dura-Europos Archive, panels, and, of course, lightning talks. Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! And there will be WIKICAKE. Sunday January 15 Wikipedia Day 2023 (RSVP on-wiki). 1 - 5PM at Jefferson Market Library, 425 Sixth Avenue in Manhattan After 5PM, migration to afterparty at Ace Hotel, 20 West 29th St Livestreaming is likely, watch the wiki meetup page All attendees are subject to Wikimedia NYC's Code of Conduct. In addition, to participate in person you should be vaccinated and also be sure to respect others' personal space, and we may limit overall attendance size if appropriate. affcom re: az.wikimedia.org

Hello,

at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T306015 the Azerbaijani Wikimedians User Group has requested to create a new wiki under https://az.wikimedia.org.

As a server admin I was about to add this to DNS but I noticed the comment at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T306015#7851237.

It says "For UGs we don't create wikis for them anymore. Until affcom approves it".

From there I got to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T271539#6733959 which asks for general criteria and how wiki creation for UGs is stalled because of that.

I see you are the, freshly renewed, chair of affcom, is that right?

So yea, if you have any comments or updates on this that would be great. Thanks in advance!

Of course you are also more than welcome to comment directly on Phabricator if you like. The global wiki user should work as a login.

There is also a pending patch in code review to add az.wikimedia.org to DNS or not. It's at https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/operations/dns/+/875394.
