Hello Can you help me with a small problem that I have. If I post a new talk subject about addition or subtracting on page article information how long do I have to weight with no response untill I can edit the page, and should I tag others, If you could help me with this it would be great, thankyou. Hi I have other articles that I need to move on to, I give myself the same grace that I give others, invent untill proven guilty. Have you stopped what you are doing?. I have also added some more decisions on talk I counted another three times that Pseudoscience has been used in the article under other headings and even the word included in a heading. I have also included a link to another Nature Magazine article, that will hopefully help to clear up my eddits and also clean up the page. Hello sorry I am trying to get to know Wiki, I do appreciate your help, I thought that I had answered your question. I was looking for how to bring other eddtitors to mediate this page within the quidelined of wiki, I was looking how to get arbitration, but you did it for us to clear this up. Shenqijing, I am replying here, although I know that you have been blocked for edit warring and will not be able to respond immediately. For the record, I believe that you are attempting to make changes that you believe are necessary and beneficial, and are therefore acting in good faith. Nevertheless, the way you have gone about doing it has been disruptive. I gave you links to the edit warring guidelines, and yet I see that you made at least five reverts on the TCM page just today - that is not acceptable. You may wish to review the current version of the page, which had substantial edits today from an experienced editor, and now contains information about the compendium, in what I believe to be appropriate context. I don't know whether you will be satisfied with the way the page is currently worded, but at least it now contains the information that you wanted to include. I found that one editor with an anonymous identity as 'Master of Ninja' had been busy always in collapsing information content in that page. I restored his changes which were not authentic as he was not connected with Indian Supercomputer Project. Every time when I had restored the page, he could be seen collapsing the content of the page once again. That is why I posted a warning on the page. HI Mohan Rose Ali thanks for reaching out. The instructions for requesting unblock are at WP:GAB, you should read that and make a request on your talk. HOWEVER - should caution you about a few things. First, I can't verify whether you are who you say you are - on the Internet, anyone can claim to be anyone else. For that reason, nobody has special privelege to 'protect' any article, and no individual gets to decide what content should be in an article. This is decided by  discussion and consensus, based on the content of reliable sources. You can still edit the talk page of the article in question - why not post a note there about your concerns? Be careful not to ascribe any bad faith to any other editor unless you are prepared to back it up with evidence, which you have not done so far. Hamaryns, I didn't see the reply - you might want to read WP:PING, which explains how to send a notification to another editor - very useful if you are replying some time after they last commented (I'd completely forgotten about the question I'm afraid!)

Banff & Buchan

Seasider53, great - hope you enjoy it, I always find books from that series very helpful. However - don't attempt to import the photos, they will be covered by copyright - see WP:COPYVIO. Geograph.co.uk is a useful source of photographs for buildings, the pictures on there are usually covered by a commercial commons licence that's compatible with our policies - oftentimes they've already been imported into commons. If I'm looking for a picture of a building, I'll go to commons first and search for it to see what comes up; if there's nothing useful, I'll go to Geograph to see if they have anything which hasn't been uploaded. If neither approach works, I give up! That's why you'll see a couple of the articles linked on my usepage (eg Letterfourie House) don't have pictures at all, and others (eg Rusco Tower) have pretty poor ones. One day, I'll go on a road trip and see if I can get some more pics, but until then I have to work with what's available online with an appropriate licence. As I suspected, this troll is here as Hgliaucuhe. Seems to be a large IP range or something. Bishonen and Glen had blocked which seems like a big range 2 days ago[2], [3] but immediately they were back. Some revelation here.

Looks like this IP was blocked already; I'm not familiar with the account you believe this IP is connected to, so I can't comment on that; might be better to report to SPI, or plain old AIV, if disruptions starts up after the block expires. I would report this issue to Ad Orientem since he know about this editor, but unfortunately he retired. I see no reason to report the IP at SPI because they only responded to existing accounts, not IPs. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 09:07, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Ken Tony Peter, you're welcome. I saw the message you left me on commons too. Basically, we need to use pictures that gave been released by their owner under a suitable license. Very commonly, that means using pictures that an editor has taken themselves, perhaps if you were attending a game? What we can't do is grab pictures off the Internet. Quiet a few of the articles I've written have no picture, purely because I've not been able to find a freely licenced one - that's annoying, but it's just the way it is I'm afraid. As per this, even user has registered since Sep 2018 but only made 3 edits in 2018. As of now the user made only 18 edits in mainspace and little experience in counter vandalism work. Hi Amkgp, yes I saw that. In fairness to them, they've made some efforts to attribute the text, so the copyvio isn't quite so egregious, and the subject may be notable - I haven't checked on that yet. Having already deleted the article one (and nominated another article by the same author to AfD), I thought I'd let another admin take a look at that version, to get a second opinion. PDC

Hey, Girth Summit. I'm here because I'm sort of out of options short of ANI, and I'd always prefer to handle things some other way, and you have some experience with this editor. If you can't help, I'll take this to ANI, but I'd really rather this person not end up top banned from their clear area of highest interest. I'd rather find another solution if possible.

Pasdecomplot has been warned multiple times over months by multiple editors about making accusations of bad faith, both at talk pages and in edit summaries, and they just won’t stop.

Editors in contentious areas should expect pushback. They should expect to have to defend every edit, to have other editors push back, to have to talk and talk and talk before making even small edits. PDC wants to make sweeping edits to an extremely contentious area – Tibetan Buddhism and China – and if another editor disagrees with their edits, they immediately go to accusations of bad faith, misrepresentation of sources, and hounding. I’ll note that I have only a general understanding of the subject, so I have no idea whether PDC’s edits are helpful or not. My concern is solely the unwillingness to assume good faith and focus on the edits rather than making accusations about the other editors’ motivations.

PDC now has nearly 2000 edits. They are no longer a newbie. They are ignoring our policies on assuming good faith, and they’re doing it flagrantly and unrepentantly. I hate to suggest they be topic banned from their clear area of highest interest, but I am at a loss, here. Personally all I want to see is forbidding them from making any accusation of any kind against any other editor (broadly construed; that is, no referring "bad faith edits" either) either on talk or in edit summaries, for at least six months.

Hi again Valereee, I'm concerned this goes beyond the issues around failing to assume good faith - I'm concerned about some of the recent editing at BLPs, specifically WP:COATRACKING and WP:POV being introduced to WP:BLP articles.
I've spent a bit of time looking into the recent history of Chen Quanguo. I have no interest in whitewashing the article of a Chinese government official, but at the same time I think some of this goes a bit far:
  • This series of edits modifies some existing verbiage to read Tibet's ethnic majority has been swamped by promoting economic development that encourages migration, of Han Chinese, - the word 'swamped' was not use in the source, and it's not a word that I think is acceptable when describing the movements of ethnic groups. It also details the number of self-immolations that took place between 2009 and 2019, with an unsourced assertion that 'most' of these took place during Chen's tenure as head of Tibet.
  • This edit adds, in Wikipedia's voice, that the self-immolations were seen as ...an offering by the self-immolators of their bodies to show the world how badly Tibet is suffering.. This feels like advocacy.
I'm not saying that any of this material is untrue, but introducing all this into a biographical article about a government official seems like COATRACKING. Cullen328 and El C have both interacted with PDC with regard to BLP articles in the past, I'd greatly appreciate their thoughts if they have time. I don't have time right now to dig through their other BLP contribs recently, but I'm concerned that someone who is so recently off a TBan about BLPs is editing like this. Yes, there have been concerns voiced about that. There was a long thread at RSN which PDC seems to believe concluded with a blanket statement that International Campaign for Tibet, UNESCO, Tibet Post International/The Tibet Post, Tibet Watch, Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization, Free Tibet, Radio Free Asia were all reliable sources for articles covering China and Tibetan Buddhism. —valereee (talk) 13:46, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
Valereee, I'll try to get chance to review that, but I'm worried less about reliability of the sources (or indeed the veracity of the claims), so much as turning a biographical article about a particular person into a campaigning piece about the injustices of the Chinese regime in Tibet - I mean, there's more content about the regime in Tibet in that article now than there is actual biographical material, it looks like a classic coatrack.   • There is absolutely no doubt that Pasdecomplot is 100% aware that they should not be making such attacks on editors in that manner, and they have been warned more than enough times. This can not continue; at this point, regretfully, I would support using blocks to get their attention: escalating blocks for each new PA, or maybe even an indef is warranted here with the condition that they explain why they have been doing what they know full well they should not be doing and why anyone should believe that things will be different going forward.   • There is a thread beginning October 1 on my talk page titled "A good answer" where this editor posts a gigantic wall of text trying to convince me that they are 100% right and another editor is 100% wrong. I think this editor is pretty much incapable of editing neutrally or collaborating with editors with a different point of view. They consistently attribute disagreement to bad faith by others. What I wanted to do most urgently there was to remove severe BLPvios (IMO) from the first reply that you received (objectively evil; comparison with nazis), which I would have done anywhere else on Wikipedia. I left because it's BLPN for chrissake, there must be editors well-versed in BLP policies to remove things like that if it's as bad as it seems it is to me (and no one has). I’ve also found Pasdecomplot’s editing style to be disruptive and there are definitely elements of WP:COATRACK in how they’re going about things (they seem to repeat the same information on a number of related pages). I also can’t say I always follow their arguments about why something should be included even when the sourcing is sub-par, they seem to have been given a number of chances yet still don’t understand what people have an issue with vis-a-vis their editing style. What's not very constructive are accusations, which begin this thread, and seem to be based on a misinterpretation of an unanswered talk on Chen Quanguo: A retraction of the misinterpretation would be a good faith sign @CaradhrasAiguo that the misinterpretation was a simple error. Thanks. No retraction, no response.
It's this request for clarification that seems to be reinterpreted as an accusation of bad faith, which it certainly is not.
And on the flip side, the request was never answered. Period.
I've reviewed policy on "bad faith" for an exhaustive answer on the subject of accusations of bad faith. I have no need to go through the experience again (and @Usedtobecool was very helpful afterwards). Thus, the request was not an accusation.

Thanks! I was going to try to completely avoid all interactions with them, but they are trying to change basic policies in a rather self-serving way, and I felt that I should oppose the proposal. Please look over Wikipedia talk:Harassment#Addition to WP:HUSH. I will be happy to remove the part where I talk about the other editor if you think I went too far. I naturally have to doubt my own objectivity on this, so please be brutal if I didn't handle the attempt to change policy well. I can take it.
Guy Macon if I'm honest, I'd have missed out the part about the other editor, if I were you. Fine for you to oppose, but look at it like this - I've advised them that their edit was harassment, and they could be blocked if they repeat it; you've now just said that they are exactly the type of person that template was designed for. Without making any comment about the veracity or otherwise of that statement, it personalises the issue, and it could even be interpreted as baiting them to respond improperly. RAJIVVASUDEV, I'm not an expert on the subject matter but, on the face of it, that looks to me like a reasonable source for basic information about textile fibres. The author is apparently an academic in a relevant discipline (Google scholar link), and while the publisher isn't one I've ever heard of, it doesn't look dodgy to me. On the other hand, taking a quick skim through some of the pages, I see some quite bold claims within the book which don't appear to be expanded upon, or backed up by any footnotes - for example, quite early on it baldly says 'jute is the most environmentally friendly fibre', but it doesn't go on to explain exactly what is meant by that, or why the author believes it to be the case. I wouldn't rely on this book on its own to support adding an assertion of that nature to an article, without at least attributing the opinion to the author. Note that I haven't investigated things like reviews or citation ratings - to identify a real heavyweight source, I'd be looking to see how many other scholars have cited it, and/or how it has been reviewed in scholarly journals within the relevant discipline. For info, while the book may be an acceptable source, for that Jute claim, certainly not. Hi IP, as I said when I removed the content, I feel that a detailed discussion of the UNESCO's assessment of education reforms in Thailand would belong at Education in Thailand, but not at the biographical article about the Minister for Education. As for the accusations that you mention, I'm afraid I don't recognise that - I don't see any accusations of impropriety on the page, and to say that someone was embroiled in a scandal is not to say that he was guilty of any wrongdoing; if academic sources have written about this (one is cited, with a direct quotations, in the article) there's no reason I can see why it shouldn't be mentioned in the article. With regard to the Thai Wiki page, we at EnWiki have no control over the content there, but from what I can see Thai Wiki is not using EnWiki as a source, they are using the same academic source that we are. With all that being said, the correct place to have this discussion is over at the article's talk page, where other editors with an interest in the subject matter will be able to weigh in, not here at my talk page. Yes, I appreciate that. I think that the problem was that you were mixing up the points you were making with a load of text you were proposing be added to the article, and it was very hard to make sense of. I'd suggest that you attempt to address things one at a time, and be specific about the changes you want to make, and the problems you have with the source. From my perspective, it looks like there is a reliable source literally saying that he became embroiled in the scandal - you'll have to be clear about why you think that should be removed. Hi Girth Summit, I’m Writing to compliment you on the way you handled that guy who vandalized my Photo of Zendaya.

First, that you justly blocked him, and second, your explanation that I was a professional celebrity photographer who has a long history of regularly contributing legitimate professional photos of celebrities to Wikipedia.

I also want to say that I haven’t been contributing anything since the T-ban, not only because of that, but also beause I haven’t had much of anything new. Because of the virus, Everything has been Cancelled. And I mean EVERTYHING, even down to the most insignificant press junket about a short documentary of the mating habits of turtles, to Movie premieres or big Award Shows. ALL have been canceled indefinitely. Something else: Soon, or at least sometime maybe this year, things are going to start up again. And I’m going to be there, front and center taking new pictures of years and years worth of celebrities galore.

Here’s a few things to NOTE: I do not take pictures for Wikipedia or for the purpose of posting them on Wikipedia.

The pictures I donate to Wikipedia. I take during my job as a professional Photojournalist. As soon as I take them I forward them immediately to editors who edit them as quickly as possible to prepare and present them to be published in magazines, News and Entertainment websites, and celebrity photo Agencies such as Getty Images, Alamy., PRPhotos, Shutterfly, and others.


That gets to another thing that needs to be put to rest. The most ridiculous thing imaginable is your absurd belief that somehow I was using Wikipedia to promote myself as a photojournalist. 1). The last thing I need to do is promote myself anywhere. I am so overloaded, so overworked, and so far over-capacity that I cannot even think of taking on anything more than what I already have. I cannot handle it. And if I did ever think of promoting myself, Wikipedia is the last and the worst place to do especially the foreign ones. Of all the photos I have contributed to Wikipedia, I have never received any benefit from any of . In fact it’s very stupid of me to do so. It’s against my own interest, a substantial financial loss and against all common sense and reason, which is why no other Professional Photographers do so. As a press photographer, taking photos is my job, for the purpose of selling them to magazines and other entertainment publications and presentations. If someone is looking for a photo of a certain celebrity and If I have a photo of that celebrity on sale for say $500 and also the same for free on Wikipedia, why would somebody pay $500 instead of nothing for the same photo? Would you?


However, lastly, I, as a very caring and compassionate person who in my line of work I come face to face with lies and injustice on a regular basis and I do have more than a few injustices that disturb me greatly. For example; Domestic Violence, abusing, insulting, degrading, character assignation of other people,Stalking, and killing of other people, especially models, as in the case of Amie Harwick. It’s different and personal when you know these people and you know that what some editors say is nothing but hate and lies. Anyway, again, good job on your blocking of that guy who removed my photo of Zendaya and your explanation that I was a legitimately long time contributor to Wikipedia.

Please remember that I did not accuse you of using Wikipedia to promote your work. 4thfile4thrank, hi - I'm afraid that I find it difficult to comment on an entire talk page, are there particular examples that you'd like to discuss? My general advice would be to read WP:VANDALISM carefully (like, really read it, don't just skim it - try to read between the lines and understand the spirit of the guidance). Also read WP:AGF - it's often quoted, but seldom actually read. WP:OFWV is also a pledge which I have taken to heart - only assume vandalism when there is no reasonable alternative explanation. Insistent changes

Hi. There are problems with insistent changes in this article. This guy was not a historian, but one user (Usually he/she makes changes without logging into an account) insists on calling him a "historian". In modern times, one has to graduate from a history department to be officially a "historian". Otherwise, there are thousands of writers who have wrote essays and books about history, and if we call them "historians" there will be chaos. Aybeg, I don't have a view on the matter, I've never heard of him. Our policy is to go by what reliable sources say. If they call him an historian, so do we; if they don't, we don't. That said, the lead shouldn't be cluttered up with too many different descriptions of what he has done - it should say what he's primarily notable for. Supreme Deliciousness, briefly, I don't see how I can mediate a discussion if you aren't willing to talk to the other parties involved. By offering to mediate I meant that I would try to help prevent either side slipping back into personal attacks and keep the discussion focussed on content and sourcing, not that I would become some sort of go-between between two sets of people who weren't speaking to each other. Getting a solution for Syrian Kurdistan

Thanks for taking an interest in this topic. For example, the current ANI thread: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Syrian Kurdistan, at war again. Occasionally we can use the statements of the arguing editors to piece together an impression of the reality of what's being talked about. With the Syria/Kurd business it is just a bit too confusing to understand a little bit at a time. So a relatively-understandable ANI thread might be a way to make progress. I wish we could persuade people to settle for a journalistic description of the status quo. What parties and factions do the newspapers say that there are? Do the journals believe that AANES really exists? How do they describe it? Here on Wikipedia we don't have enough scholars of the Kurds to treat Kurdish history more than skin deep. We should allow relatively shallow articles to be written if they agree with what's in the press. At least, that's a strategy. EdJohnston (talk) 21:49, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

EdJohnston, I'd like to help resolve this, if I can. I don't know whether the fact that I know almost nothing about the topic would be a strength or a weakness in this regard - I genuinely have no view on the matter, and don't know what the sources say. Do you think that ANI is the right place to sort it out though? I mean, there are obvious behavioural issues on both sides, but can address the content issue at ANI? Shouldn't that be done via DR? I'm wondering whether I should make a proposal at the (now multiple) ANI threads along the lines of everyone taking a break from the PAs and accusations, and committing to going through a moderated DR process in which we can thrash out the core content issues in a civilised manner. There is now a plausible talk page discussion complete with RfCs at Talk:Syrian Kurdistan. Maybe the best plan is for some admins to watch that page and perhaps warn or block some people for personal attacks. I'd like to find some way of omitting or postponing discussions of historical items where there is no practical chance for anyone on Wikipedia to collect good enough scholarship. That approach is not going to work. Nothing will make these people see sense. There is no benefit to allowing this farce to continue. This editor, and the other two denialists, have clearly never learnt from their history of blocks and ArbCom topic bans for nationalistic disruption regarding the Middle East and action clearly needs to be taken. Will you please comment on either of my ANI reports concerning this issue? Or respond to any of the numerous requests for your opinion on the interpretation of basic English sentences? (No specialist knowledge is required ...) Civil discussion with this kind of ideological campaign is of no benefit to this project and these editors are clearly not here to benefit the encyclopaedia. We have wasted enough time on this rigmorale; they are never going to accept reliable sources, and will never produce anything meaningful of their own. @Valereee: No that's not accurate. I raised an ANI report about the tendentious editing going on and a fat nothing was done about it. Someone else later making an unrelated ANI report about my actions, for which due action had already been taken, can hardly be said to be me wasting time. Plenty of people in that discussion seemed to find no qualm making outrageous and insulting claims about my behaviour, but as soon as I point out they have a grudge against me for calling out the POV-push in the first ANI thread I'm the one that's uncivil! Is there a way to watch IP users' contributions?

Hi, I often spot some edits by IP-users, which are sometimes plain, simple vandalism and sometimes they seem like tests or jokes. I would like to be able to follow such IP for some time to see if the user evolves into a full-time vandal or rather becomes a regular contributor. Is there any way to do that semi-automatically? Of course I can put relevant Contributions/XX.XX.XX.XX link into favourites in my browser and visit it periodically, but that's not a convenient way. Is there any mechanism I can use to be notified on any new contributions of a specific IP-user? --CiaPan (talk) 20:30, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Regarding the CVUA

Hello Girth Summit, a few months ago, I asked Puddleglum2.0 (who was my CVUA trainer) if I could become a CVUA trainer myself. They said that I should wait a couple more months, so I responded that I'd come back around the new year. Fair enough on the taking a step back. Well, there aren't any formal requirements for acting as a trainer - I am happy for you to go ahead and put your name down as a trainer. My training material is at User:Girth_Summit/CVUA/Sections, feel free to make a local copy and use it.
While snooping around in your contribs, I didn't see much activity at UAA - let me know if you want any guidance about that, or if you have any questions.
I couldn't see that you maintained a CSD log - do you do much CSD nominating? You can enable a log in your Twinkle preferences, which tracks your nominations - I do that partly for transparency purposes, and also because it helps you keep track of your own nominations, see which ones get deleted and which ones don't, which is a useful learning tool. On your question about about monitoring specific IPs - nothing is jumping to mind. I guess you could put a link to their contribs in your sandbox and click on it periodically, but you can't watchlist contributions pages for changes. There might be some clever widgets out there that would do the job, but I'm afraid I can't point to anything. (Any talk page stalkers should feel free to chime in...) It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

86.146.18.128 making hundreds of genre changes

Hi, I would like your advice on how to handle a situation. On 24 Nov. I noticed this new user User:86.146.18.128, who between 3 Nov and 24 Nov made over 600 edits, all (as far as I can see) being unsourced changes to movie catgories and genres, with a few music genre changes as well. I added a warning on their talk page, and they immediately replied on my talk page with an apology. I thought this was a promising sign that they might be redirected to constructive editing, so I left a more detailed message on their talk page explaining our RS policies. They did not reply to this, but after a few days resumed changing genres, albeit at a somewhat slower rate than previously. I added another warning on their talk page, which they again have not responded to.

I'm not sure this behavior rises to ANI level, but since they are no longer responding to communication I'm not sure what is the best venue to address this. I don't have the time or patience to revert all of their hundreds of edits, nor the experience in managing movie genres/categories to know whether some of them might be valid. CodeTalker, hi there. I just took a very quick look at a few of the contribs. The ones I looked at appear to be the addition of categories - is that the kind of thing you're talking about? Changed like that don't themselves have to be sourced, but they should make sense within the context of the sourced content within the article. The ones I looked at didn't look ridiculous, but I only have a quick glance - is your problem the fact that the edits are unsourced, or that they're nonsensical? You don't have to trawl through all of their edits, but if you'd be willing to check a few and tell me if there are any glaring issues, that would be great. Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, most of the edits are additions of categories. I wasn't aware that such changes are exempt from sourcing requirements, so perhaps this isn't an issue. However, there are a number of their edits that change or remove existing categories as well as adding new ones, like [13], [14], [15], [16], [17], [18], [19], [20], [21], [22], [23], [24], all from just one day of editing. As I said, I'm not very experienced with managing categories, so perhaps these changes are not a concern either? CodeTalker (talk) 17:10, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
CodeTalker, hi there, I'll try to find time to take a proper look. In terms of sourcing, it's not so much that categories are specially exempt, it's more that they are usually based on sourced content within the article already. If we have an article about a Japanese horror film that isn't categorised as such, it's no problem for someone to add the cat without adding a new source.
