Speedy deletion nomination of Gresol International American School
[edit]Hello GresolPedia,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Gresol International American School for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

- Hi,
- I am a teacher at Gresol International American School, and the page is being created by Grade 6 students as part of an analytical writing project, with the aim of creating a student-led Wikipedia page for the school, so I don't agree that it is promotional, as it will only contain neutral, factual information about the school, which currently does not have a page.
- I wrote the foreword because I wanted to show the students that the page now exists, and is ready to be completed by them, and to include topics such as school history, curriculum, staff education and facilities. This project was designed to give students a dynamic and engaging way to share and contribute information on a global scale. I notice that students have also been barred from editing other articles, again, this was an activity that was extremely useful for them to practice self-correction, so I would appreciate it if any blocks can be lifted, and that you can agree that the creation of this page serves a purely academic purpose, and is in no way related to self-promotion, as during our research process we have been looking at numerous other articles related to information about other schools, so creating pages about academic institutions is clearly valid.

- The main issue here is that Wikipedia's username policy requires that each user represent a single individual, not a group. In order to continue editing, each student should create their own account rather than continue to use this group account. Bensci54 (talk) 13:26, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Request reason:
This is an educational account linked to a project for students at Gresol International School whereby they are creating a Wikipedia page for the school, something which after researching various other Wikipedia articles dedicated to academic institutions, I know to be valid. Editing suggested articles gave a valuable activity to students in how to be aware of language and punctuation mistakes, and as I said, the page itself will be student led, with only factual information such as school history, location, faculty and staff included, so there is no promotional or marketing motivation behind the creation of this page, as it is purely academic. This project has been running for almost two months as the students have researched their own information, used Wikipedia to see how other schools have presented their pages, and also had the opportunity to feel part of a global information-sharing system by editing recommended articles. I believe blocking this article and effectively cancelling this project would send out very much the wrong message to the students, and go completely against the ethos of what Wikipedia is known for. Decline reason:
Accounts are for individuals, not groups. Only a single person should have access to this account; students will need to create their own accounts(or request them at WP:ACC). You will need to choose a new username. Wikipedia has articles, not pages. Using Wikipedia for educational purposes is a great thing to do, but you are not going about it in the best way. I would suggest that you review the Wikipedia Education Program materials. Maybe you weren't being "promotional" per se, but "Welcome to the official Wikipedia home for Gresol International American School(GIAS), your online resource for everything related to our school" is using Wikipedia as a web host, which is not permitted. I think you will need to change your approach to what you are trying to do. That other educational institutions merit articles does not mean that your school does. Please tell us what you will do differently going forward; I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 18:01, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
