March 2023

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm SounderBruce. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, U.S. Route 20, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. SounderBruce 00:13, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I added a lengths table. Please tell me a source besides Wikipedia. Happyperson1 (talk) 14:47, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Realistically, you should be double checking the cited lengths in the other articles and pulling those citations over from the other articles. Otherwise, no, you can't actually cite Wikipedia articles in a Wikipedia article, directly or indirectly. Imzadi 1979  17:49, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't answer the question Happyperson1 (talk) 23:42, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Forgive me for not being clear. Policy forbids citing other Wikipedia articles. (See WP:CIRC.)
However, if you're copying information from another Wikipedia article, like the length of US 20 in Illinois, then you should verify the source for US 20's length in Illinois from that article and then copy that source over with the information.
In a table like this, you may have to supply a source for each row. In another table, you might be able to supply a single source for all the rows at once. Imzadi 1979  23:49, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you enter this conversation? Happyperson1 (talk) 01:48, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your addition has been reverted again. You were requested to provide sourcing the first time, which you still have not done. I've explained that as a courtesy after posting the thread below about US 8. Your talk page, like all of them, is publicly viewable, meaning anyone can jump in without restriction. Imzadi 1979  01:54, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

US 8

[edit]

You made two unnecessary changes to U.S. Route 8, both of which have been reverted.

  1. You removed the decimal places on the length of the highway in the infobox. While it may seem odd, US 8 is 22.13+255.55+2.32=280.00 miles in length. If you start with the more precise values of 22.129+255.55+2.322, you get 280.001, but since the Wisconsin measurement only has two decimal places, you have to round to that level of precision, 280.00. That is the number that should appear in the infobox.
  2. You added a lengths table to the Route description section. While this may be a standard feature on other national-level highway articles, US 8 has a full junction list. The lengths of the highway in the three states are given in that table. Thus a lengths table is unneeded clutter. (The intra-state lengths are also present in the infobox just in case.) The articles where it is added have sub-articles by state and don't have a full junction list with the lengths/mileages at state lines.

My changes were nesscary Happyperson1 (talk) 14:47, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please explain why and don't simply assert that they were necessary. I did you the courtesy of an explanation on why I reverted you, which I didn't have to do. Now the burden would be on you to justify the changes and not simply say they were necessary.
Just to summarize, you removed decimal places that were supported by the source material. There is a difference in meaning between 280 mi (450 km) and 280.00 mi (450.62 km). The lengths table is not necessary in this context because the states' lengths are given in the article, while an article like U.S. Route 33 does not have them in another format. Imzadi 1979  17:48, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just to follow up: the lengths table was not present when the article was nominate through FAC and judged to be some "Wikipedia's finest work". If it was really so necessary, someone would have requested it then. Same with rounding off the precision of the length in the infobox. Imzadi 1979  19:50, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I didn't know that. Do you expect me to know everything??? Happyperson1 (talk) 01:47, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, which is why I came here to explain the reversion, only to get " My changes were nesscary [sic]". Sorry, but if they were necessary, they wouldn't have been reverted. Imzadi 1979  01:51, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

US 113

[edit]

A lengths table is unnecessary, and the addition has been reverted. Please stop adding them to articles with full junction list tables. Imzadi 1979  22:46, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Do you get notified every time someone edits an article about a highway? Happyperson1 (talk) 01:48, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have every Featured Article on a US or Canadian highway on my watch list. US 8 and US 113 are FAs, the former written by me and the latter by someone else. Ergo, when you edit the FAs, I know. Imzadi 1979  02:26, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New Carrollton station

[edit]

Please reconsider your edits[1][2] to New Carrollton station saying that it was closed during the Platform Improvement Project. The station has Metro rail, Metro bus, MARC, and Amtrak service. Only the Metro rail service was unavailable; the station was still open for the other services. -- Pemilligan (talk) 17:31, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that one or more recent edit(s) you made did not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits, an adequate summary may be quite brief.

The edit summary field looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary, and then click the "Save" button. Thanks! Pi.1415926535 (talk) 21:32, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Graywalls (talk) 23:30, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
